They have their moments. They definitely helped pioneer the sound. The guitar tuning was so crisp back in the day. A lot of their structures are very similar to that of Metal.
Metal's structure is like water. It's very fluid.
I probably confused the hell outta ya'll on that one. What I mean is Metal has a very unique structure. It varies from band to band. Sure, it's rooted at Classical and Jazz. But look at Sabbath. They are considered the first Metal band, and they have more Blues in their sound than anything else. Therefore, Metal and Rock are more similar than you all imagine them to be.
I guess you could consider Deep Purple Metal. I never really thought about it before. Well, I haven't heard enough of their material to judge either. I only heard Machine Head and Shades of Deep Purple.

Yeah, I'd consider them early prog metal, at least in that they were a huge influence on bands like Queensryche and DT.

I wouldn't consider Deep Purple metal, but rock. Still, they are avery good band they are one of the big influences to the bands that would later become metal. This is a very good question, interesting topic, I like it

Despite being very quiet, Machine Head is a quality album. I wouldn't call them metal though. I'd call it roots.

I personally think that the majority of the fathers of metal today should be considered ******** metal.

mot_the_barber Yeah, I'd consider them early prog metal, at least in that they were a huge influence on bands like Queensryche and DT. Prog Rock is very easily mistaken for Prog Metal. You have been warned. Ix_xI ImpaledCarcassThrower They have their moments. They definitely helped pioneer the sound. The guitar tuning was so crisp back in the day. I believe discussing bands that have contributed with making Metal what it is today, is On-Topic and allowed in the Metal Forum.
