I didn't see a thread really dedicated to this, so I figured I'd make one. This is a thread designed for trainers who want to go beyond battling simple "route" trainers, the ones you encounter along the main storyline. The Battle Tower, Colosseum, XD, and the Battle Frontier feature opponents that have actual strategy, and not just moves that are learned natrually. Anabel's Curselax is going to be much harder to take out than a Snorlax belonging to Hiker Gregor.
So, in this thread you can ask for advice on building a team, fixing movesets, distributing EVs, among other things required to battle in a true competitive setting.
If you're posting a team/single pokemon, please use this format:
Pokemon Name @ Item Level Pokemon's Nature Move 1 Move 2 Move 3 Move 4
Pokemon's Stats, if you would like to add them. Other info you feel like adding. Shiny, Gender, etc.
Example:
Salamence @ King's Rock Level 50 Adamant Nature Brick Break Hidden Power Bug 70 Rock Slide Dragon Dance
HP 159 Attack 191 Defense 89 Special Attack 107 Special Defense 100 Speed 142
EVs--Max Attack and Speed

Well, I'm training up a grimer right now. Like I've said, I'm new to competetive, but I want to improve before the D/P Wifi.
Could you give me a little help with physical/special sweepers?
I'm planning on either the elemtal punch alakazam, Houndoom, and possibly Arcanine if I can find a decent move set.

I tried an Arcanine. It's decent, but there are better pokemon out there. It has incredibly balanced stats though.
"Garm" @ Lum Berry Lv. 50 Quirky Nature
Extreme Speed Aerial Ace Iron Tail Roar
Meh. It's alright. Intimidate allows it to survive Earthquake and Roar the opponent.
Other good special sweepers--Alakazam, Gengar, Milotic (Special Tank), Porygon2, and Sceptile.
For example:
Sceptile @ Scope Lens/Leftovers/Other Modest/Timid Nature
Crunch Leaf Blade Dragon Claw Thunder Punch
Crunch can take out Alakazam, since Sceptile is just as fast. Dragon Claw is always good with so many Salamence about. Leaf Blade gets STAB, and Thunder Punch beats Flying types. His only real problem is Fire. You can drop Thunder Punch for Earthquake, I suppose. Or Rock Tomb/Slide, if possible.
I'm planning on raising a Porygon2 soon. It'a underused, but has a great move pool.

cometknight06 sweet a theard i can post my skills charchar/salmance @ Item Level 100 n/a crunch dragon claw fly flamethorwer Replace Fly with Aerial Ace, trust me. Fly has more power, but Aerial Ace always hits, can't be 100% jammed by Protect, and if they use Thunder....ZAP. Give it a Petaya Berry too.
In competition, the only good HM for a generic set is Surf.

Just went 56 rounds straight in the Battle Tower, so I feel I must post my team I used here. xD
Metagross--"Zetsuei" @ Salac Berry Level 50 Adamant Nature
Earthquake Meteor Mash Psychic Brick Break
He took down a Regirock in two hits with Meteor Mash. About 75% of the matches he made it all the way through. I thought of giving him Explosion over Psychic, but Psychic takes out Weezing and Machamp in 2 hits each.
Milotic--"Narcissus" @ Lum Berry Level 50 Modest Nature
Surf Recover Mirror Coat Ice Beam
That Electrode with Thunderbolt that I fought like 4 times fell for Mirror Coat. Not to mention quite a few others. Milotic even took out this really powerful Swampert, so I'm proud of him.
Blissey--"Aphrodite" @ Leftovers Level 50 Lax Nature
Seismic Toss Refresh Substitute Softboiled
I got pretty scared that I'd run into a Ghost type with her, but I didn't. Anything with only Special Attack moves got tossed into oblivion by a cute little Substitute. Hee hee.
I can post stats if anyone cares.

No pokemon are at uber strength yet, so you need to rely a bit more on legendaries.
And to counter, I think having to use Latios is pretty sad too.

I don't have to...i just want to..i could use any of these: Blastoise Tyranitar Gardevoir Salamence Flygon Alakazam Nosepass
All of them are around level 85...except for Salamence...He's level 91.... oh, and relying on legendaries is VERY SAD!!!! if you're any good at training, you could use anything...Except for Feebas and Magikarp....
Note:not wanting to start an argument.....just saying what i think....

Hmm. I need to replace my Gengar on my team with a sweeper that has better defenses. What do you all think of this?
Porygon2 @ Petaya Berry Modest Nature
Ice Beam Thunderbolt Recover Thunder Wave
Porygon2 has 90 base defense and 95 base Special Defense, and 105 base Special Attack. His only bad stat is Speed, at 60. But that's what Thunder Wave is for.
