So I love Star Ocean: The Second Story. It's one of the best RPGs I've ever played, the best games even. Recently I started watching the anime based on it (Star Ocean EX), and it got me to thinking. There is a lot of ground uncovered from Second Story to 'Till the End of Time. What I'm referring is the fact hat they reference Expel (the land you're in, on the first disk of SS) multiple times in the built-in dictionary of TtEoT (I know I'm sad, I read the whole thing...)
What this led me to believe is that Expel did not get destroyed after all (as you are led to believe in SS). /Something/ had to have saved it, and so, I have stooped to a new writing low, and written the beginning of a fan fiction displaying my explanation of how Expel didn't get completely destroyed.
It contains characters (generally side characters,) from the game, as well as characters on my own devision. It may be hard to understand if you've never played the game, I'm going to try to write some foot notes and add them in for people who haven't. Even though it's not done, enjoy:
In this world there are gods and demons, and prophesy of good and evil comings. Xine sat in his nest high in the mountains. From his perch on the highest peak he could see nearly every corner of the continent of Cross. He had given his tear only hours before, the group of despicable humans had helped The Evil Ones wrench it from him, and then they spoke to him of love and friendship, and saving the world. BAH! He thought, What about this world is worth saving? Nothing! There was nothing on this world for him, in all the centuries that he had existed here, never had he experienced anything that he "loved," never did he possess any "friends." His eyes focused on the town of Linga, where he knew The Evil Ones had come from. He saw people bustling around a square. An old man sat on a stool not even bothering to point out that he was trying to sell something from his cart; the man seemed content just sitting, waiting for a customer. Xine puffed his chest wide with a single intake of breath, let it out once again, and then his body made the tremendous lift into the air. He flapped two huge feathered wings and willed a thermal to be in front of him. He let it carry him up, and up, and up until he found his target, the crown jewel of the continent of Cross, the city of the same name. He swooped down for it, pointing his wins perfectly, and sailing from the thermal toward the large city. He used the travel time to assess where he was going. He saw the marketplace, and the back allies, the courtyard and the business quarter. What caught his eye was the castle. In an area, he saw a group of soldiers training. Split into two groups they mashed for the center ground. Xine willed himself to be smaller. He was the size of a finch, but with amazing plumage, bright reds, emerald greens, and fiery oranges graced his feathers. He landed gingerly on a stone cropping overlooking the training yard. All of the soldiers were fierce, but only a few of them stood out, and two inparticular. Nothing more then a pair of kids. The girl, seemed to be quite a bit more brawny, she whapped a soldier across the side of the helmet with the blunt side of her blade and moved to another target. The boy however seemed to have a bit of skill, he was locked in his defensive against another soldier, he let the soldier think he was winning the battle of strength, and then used the built up leverage to push him away. It would seem I have already chosen. Thought Xine, he hopped daintily over to the edge where he could see that the girl had been cornered against the wall by the boy. He was chopping fiercely at her, but not without precision. She blocked blow after blow, until the sword was launched from her hand. "Consider yourself beaten." He said, and smiled. Xine watched as she rolled her eyes, and stood up to her full height. He listened as the satisfying creak sound of a leather gauntlet was clenched into a fist was heard. She took a fist back and punched him square on his helmet covered face. His sword bounced as it hit the soft grass. All of the other soldiers had stopped and were now watching the pair. He lay on the ground, rubbing the side of his face. "This is an exorcise!" He yelled. "You're not supposed to injure!" She turned and walked out of the yard. He got up and followed her. Xine fluttered down into the hall, and pretended to pick at something food like on the ground behind them. She took off her helmet. Her hair was short, and a crimson red color, she brushed it idly with a hand until it flipped up on one side. "What was that all about?" He asked. "You don't get it..." She said. "Obviously." He sniped. She sighed. "You realize we're going to fight monsters, right? You think that a monster is going to be holding a sword for you to perry? You think that a monster's skin is going to split open as easily as another human's?" "Well no but..." He was cut off. "Look, besting me is nothing like besting a monster. If you don't improve your strategy, you're dead. I don't think either of us want to see that." Xine bounced thoughtfully after them, their grieves made metallic clip clop noises on the flagstones. She stripped of her breast plate and handed it to him along with the helmet. "Drop it off for me, I'll see you in town." He grieves rapped on the ground as she jogged. Xine stayed with the boy, he would see her again soon enough. He hopped along after him as he carried the armor back to the storage room, he shed out of his own, revealing his own set of deep red hair messily capped by a protruding cowlick. He neatly stacked everything and replaced his boots on his feet before neatly closing the door behind him.
"Town" was about what Xine thought. He never watched cities for that long, but he had been around long enough, and heard enough to know that cities were filed with needless bustle, and worthless humans, all trying to get money. He liked money too, but only in the sense that a magpie liked money, it was shiny and roundish. He had tailed the boy from the castle gates to what seemed to be a courtyard near the entrance of the city. A round area set in the center of the busy street was where the girl, who Xine now knew as Camille, and the boy's sister, was standing, waiting for him to arrive. Xine hated listening to humans, in which case it was fortunate for him that he only rarely had to. But he found humor in the fact that the boy seemed to talk to himself as if there was someone to listen to him. He rambled on, complaining, praising, and just chatting with himself about all kinds of things. mostly his sister, whom he seemed to have broken down analyzing to a science. Camille turned and faced her brother as he approached. She stood out with her armored shoes still clanking on the stone, especially since she only wore a tank top, with a thin button up shirt tied around her waist by the sleeves. "Hey." She said, she seemed slightly more cheery then she was in the training yard. He returned the greeting with a nod. "Why did we have to go to town again?" "Because we're on leave for a while, and I wanted to go..." She said matter-of-factly. "Right." They walked passed the church and into a back ally, a man stood at the entrance. "Hey kids, you come for some of this?" He held up a glass bottle of blue liquid. Camille shoved it back at him angrily. "Buzz off." She said. Her brother was silent as he walked passed. They made it to the back of the ally, where she sat on a empty box and took something out of a pocket. "Here." She gave him a small hunk of cheese. He took it, and found his own box to sit on. They sat in silence, eating in front of the old water trough. She walked over and ran some water from the spigot there, cleaned off her hands, demanded he do the same, and waited as he did so. That's when they heard the moan. They both looked over. Opposite their boxes and the trough, was the beginning to the city's sewer system, which used to be an open gutter, but had since been build over and was now underground. this part however had never been built over, and still remained exposed and usually filled partially with water. Another moan emanated from it. Camille was the first to look. She gasped. Her brother scrambled over. He gasped. Slumped down in the gutter, was a man, elegant, but strangely, charred attire. It looked as if he had been beaten, burnt, and tossed out a few windows, before landing here out of consequence. The siblings looked at each other, and after a battle of stares, fished him out under the brother's supervision. They carefully sat him on one of the boxes and offered him a piece of bread. "Oh, dear gods..." He said after having nearly inhaled the bread. "What are your names, kids, I owe you a bundle..." "I'm Camdus." said the brother. And after a shush from his sister he added "And this is my sister Camille." He let the information sink in. "What were you doing down there?" "Oh you don't want to know... do you have any more of that bread?" "Tell us a story and we'll feed you..." Said Camille. "Well..." He looked strained, he put a hand to his forehead. "Fine. My name is Gratuitous Songs of Lightning and Fire Who Celebrates the Falling of the Third Moon on the Third Day of the Week" he took a breath "After the Apocalypse." The siblings looked at each other, Camdus shrugged at his sister. Gratuitous Songs of Lightning and Fire Who Celebrates the Falling of the Third Moon on the Third Day of the Week After the Apocalypse rolled his eyes. "Call me Gratuitous." He finalized, and started his tale. "So about a week ago... I think... I was in the marketplace, and I was talking to the peddler, he said he had this map, right? It led to this treasure over in Cross Cave. Well, this lady overheard and offered to buy it, so I tried to haggle my way in, right? And we got up to about a hundred gold, which was all I had at the time, but i thought, 'if I can't have this thing, then I might as well just make her buy it for some crazy price' and what do you know? 'Crazy hag cheated me and walked away from the bid. So I bought the map, and examined it, figured out what it meant, and got ready to leave, when the chick shows up again! She confronts me in the courtyard of the town over there, and takes the map right out of my hand. And then what do you think she does? She makes me out to be the bad guy! It just wasn't my day... I lost the map, I had no money... I begged and pleaded people to help me... people in this town are just cruel... "Can I please have another piece of bread?"

I have a sort of working glossary going for terms that people who haven't played the game. I dunno, if it'll make the story make more sense, or if it will even help at all, but here it is. I does contain spoilers. It is put into the order that the terms are found in the story, if it gets to unmanageable, I'll put them in alphabetical order.
The continent of Cross: The land mass that you start out on in the game. Of the three major continents, it contains the smallest, and least advanced kingdom. Its capitol is Cross.
The Tear of the Mountain King: One of the many characters that can be recruited for the party is Ashton, a swordsman who was possessed by a double headed dragon demon. In a rush to exorcise the dragons. Ashton forced the party to come with him to retrieve the necessary items to get rid of the demon plaguing him. One of the items happened to be the "tear" of a great demon bird named Xine. The party traveled to the tallest peak in a range of mountains, where they confronted Xine: The Mountain King, and beat him in battle, winning the Tear.
The Evil Ones: The name of the dragon that possessed Ashton. This is at least the name that I've given them. It is assumed, since the name of the demon in question was never technically mentioned in either the game or the anime.
Linga: A small mining community on the continent of Cross, and the second town that you encounter in the game. A number of events happen in this town, but for the story, the only one that is important is the possession of Ashton by The Evil Ones.
"Monsters" I feel that this needs a little explanation in itself. The world of Expel was being plagued by a "meteorite" called the Sorcery Globe. The alien implement mutated the animals of the planet into "monsters" which began to terrorize the people of the planet. The party's major goal was to stop the Sorcery Globe from destroying Expel, which was by prophesy supposed to be the end of the world.
Gratuitous Songs of Lightning and Fire Who Celebrates the Falling of the Third Moon on the Third Day of the Week After the Apocalypse: Remember him? Okay... so I made the name up... but the man was really in the game! If you've played the game, you know him as "Heraldic Wizard."
The story behind his is as follows: Another wizard, by the name of Celine, and "Heraldic Wizard" get into a fight over the map mentioned in the story. Celine used a thunder spell on him, and took the map, drawing her into the party with the promise of a lead on the hunt for the Sorcery Globe.

Ummm, Linga isn't in the Kingdom of Cross, it's on the Lacour Continent... It's the place where you recruit either Bowman or Precise... Atleast I'm pretty sure about that.
Either way, great game, I've beaten it like 3 times...
Yeah, noone's going to read this post because it's sooo late... Hahahaha
