Flame's two sons, Adish and Ranger, found Victor and took him home; the family almost "adopted" him in a way. Flame and Victor soon found themselves in a relationship, but it fell out after Victor got into a fist-fight with Ranger. Upset and no where to go Victor wandered around; he was mysteriously attacked and placed in extensive care in the hospital. Flame reluctantly took him back in, but they're still shakey around each other.
{ IC! Notes }
>> It can take Victor awhile to warm up to people, if at all. You can never be sure if he likes you or not, because he tends to cling to everyone/anyone to avoid being alone. He tends to rush into things, and then regret his actions later.

{ Momma Flame }

Flame is the love interest of Victor and surrogate mother of Noémie. Mie loves spending time with 'Momma Flame' and her warm, comforting voice. She's also learned that being good around Flame means that she will usually be rewarded... with things like cookies or even a puppy. It also delights Mie whenever 'Daddy and Momma Flame get along.'

User Image
{ Big Brudda Russell}

Russell is a Hououza and the first son of Victor. After growing into an adult he moved out to Gambino island, but he still comes to visit from time to time. He finds Mie to be rather cute, and she loves grabbing hold of his big soft wings. Because of Flame's job and Victor's party habits, Russell can sometimes find himself as an impromptu babysitter for his younger sister.

::Interview::Entry I

Should the answers really come that fast?

Flame smiled at the girl, a sort of smug smile the knowing wore around the ignorant. She knew they be contacting her again but it wont be because they need help or want information, it will be because she did. Oh well, she was eager to help and wanting to care and to Flame that was the important part.

The fairy neko turned, the rest just came with time was all. And sometimes the rest never came at all, you just had to deal with the cards life delt and try to take the best hand you can get. Flame new all about that, and she thought of the cutlass waiting for her at home. A cutlass that would some day become a child.

Yes, the rest just came with time. Flame sat down and checked the time, the next appointment should be starting soon. Now who was it this time?

Days... He had planned this for days. He would waltz in and sweep Flame off her feet by showing her that someone thought that he would be a good gaurdian for a child--a child who just happened to be envolved with her new job. A week before Victor had went out and purchased a nice outfit. On Tuesday he had gone over what to say in his mind...

Why was it all falling apart now?

Instead of the smug feeling of satisfaction that he wanted, deserved, there was a grueling sensation of nausea welling in his heart. Doubt plauged his mind, and shackles of hesitation chained him in front of the building. Every reaction that his emotions threw out could be viewed as remorse... remose for hurting someone he loved dearly. Victor let out an aggravated sigh; any emotions that were cursing him had been subdued--the rational concious had lost.

"Hellooooo, Flame." He made sure to wear his biggest grin as he pushed open the doors to the 'clinic.' His new suede boots made a scratching sound on the floor as he ambled on over to his ex-lover's desk. If he wasn't smug before, he sure as hell was now.

Flame jolted when she first heard Victor's voice and her ears went back. That calm warm woman that just greeted Lena so professionally was gone, in her place was a hurt woman that hide it with ice then fire. Fire...then ice. She wanted to turn away, to run, to shove Victor out of the only place she felt able to get away from him, but she didn't.

The fairy neko turned to him instead, eyes cold and emotionless as she glanced over him. New outfit, her female eye glanced at the boots. Even a fashion reject like Flame knew suede was expensive, but then again why should he care? He got room and board for free. That made Flame think for a moment then wrote down rent on a posted note. Victor should pay rent, he was no longer lover or friend, he should not be given the luxuries of one.

"What do you want Victor?" she asked him, voice icy and hard.

"I uh..." His hand nervously investigated the interior of his pants pocket. A sigh of relief barely escaped his strawberry-glossed lips when his fingertips brushed past the crumpled piece of paper. He presented the worn and stained notice that gave the explanation for his appearance. "I have this letter stating that I get full parenting rights for one little girl."

Victor placed the certificate face-up on the desk and slid it over closer to Flame. He was almost afraid that she would think he counterfeited it... almost. This little victory, however, made his ego expand like his fat head.

Flame opened her mouth, ready to be outraged at such a bold face lie when her eyes landed on the paper. She lifted it up and then sat down at the computer, brining up the file for the other female. Oh god...what was Sora thinking?

Flame wish she knew as she looked back to Victor. True, he did a descent job at raising Russell but...he was so self centered and...this meant one thing. Sora approved of him. Why? Why Victor? There had to be better parents in Gaia then this arrogant Frenchman.

And yet... Flame sighed and turned to the computer. "I have to ask you two questions," she muttered, "Answer them and I will tell you want your crystal's emotion and element are." Flame had to do this, it was her job.

"O....kay." He wasn't actually sure about how questions were going to help him with a child... then again, he could at least tell that Flame wasn't up to arguing with him. Victor certainly wasn't that an inept of a semi-not-really-boyfriend, was he?

"Let me find a chair." For most front offices it was an unstated rule that an unused chair would be leaning against a wall; Victor just happened to drag this chair halfway across the room to Flame's desk. He sat himself down in a rather impatient manner and set his elbow on the table-top--this allowed him to prop his chin up with his palm. "Let's begin," he stated with a grin.

She watched as he ignored the chair Lena had out for one halfway across the room. How Victor. She sighed, once such a fact would amuse her. Now though it just tired her out. Why did she let him stay? He made her miserable. Maybe it's that look he gets into his eyes now and then, like maybe he was truly sorry. Then he give that smirk that made her want to hit him.

"First, what is your greatest fear? To be alone, to be found, to loose yourself, or to not exist." Flame listed off, right now being alone and not existing sounded really nice to her.

"Second, what is the meaning of life? Intense passion, boundless freedom, unpredictable opportunities or unyielding resolve." Flame could almost answer these for him. Victor was easy to read once you got his number. Almost pathetically so.

"To be alone." He answered this one with as much honesty as possible, but something still nagged him. Did he really know what he wanted... what he feared? Worse yet, was he that much of an open book? Should the answers really come that fast?

"Intense passion." Victor's answer just oozed with sleaze. He realized that the third answer lead him to meet Flame and that the first one caused him to be miserable... but... a man only has a one-track mine. Passion just happened to be on that track.

Flame's single reply was the click of typing the answer he gave to her. She didn't want to reply, she wanted this to be as short as possible. She glanced at him once and then back to the screen.

"Your answers tell me that you will get a happy fire," she informed him as she pulled up the file. She typed in his name and stared at it for a bit. She then closed her eyes and sighed, "What do you want to call her Victor?"

"Noémie." He removed his scrawny arm from the desk and sat up straight in his chair. "It's a French name."

"Oh there's an accent mark over the 'E.' It's pronounced No-ay-me." Victor tried to do anything to make the situation less tense. Tense things always scared the crap out of him. Hey, maybe that should have been one of their questions.

That puzzled Flame for a moment. How the hell did she get an accent mark over the e? Finally she just cheated and typed in Noe'me and wrote a note to ask Sora about it later, that way would just have to work for now.

Flame said no more as she typed in a forgotten name and then saved the informations. Noéme's story was about to begin and for once Flame wished she wasn't involved in the child's life. Not if that meant spending more time with Victor. Her heart hurt, so very bad it hurt.

The red haired woman walked to the safe and blocked the code from Victor's sight. She reached in and pulled out his crystal. She glanced at it and then stroked it once, "Good luck," she murmured and turned to Victor.

"Here you go, Victor, take good care of her." Better then you took care of anyone else.

"Yeah, thanks." He reached out and took the beautiful red crystal from Flame. For a brief moment in time a black screen covered his eyes; the visual world came back after a blink or two. He stowed the future child away safely in his pocket.

The plan was a bomb. Victor wasn't much for intense planning, but he figured Flame would forgive him if he showed he was sorry by taking a big part in her life at Ruesaiah. Adopting a kid was just like saying I'm sorry, right?

"I'll see you at home." No smile, no smirk. He stood up and pushed in the extra chair he had brought over. Some spark... some hope of anything... died inside Victor as he left through the large doors he entered in so confidently.

::Realizations::Entry II

He just wanted someone to help him.

It could have almost been considered funny… in a sadistic, pathetic way. Victor never returned home after receiving Noémie; he was considering never returning at all. Even as a grown man Victor through temper-tantrums, but his involved something other than stomping about and yelling at 'mommy.'

His little outbreak consisted of finding a nightclub, getting wasted, maybe getting high (now that he though about it, he could not recall if he did use drugs or not), flirting, and waking up in the dark back alley in the wrong side of town. The smell of alcohol and vomit aroused Victor from an otherwise comatose-like state.

Disgusted with himself, Victor managed to lift his body from the cold, hard cement and lean on a garbage can for stability. He couldn't figure out what went wrong. Yesterday was supposed to be perfect… he was supposed to be perfect. Why didn't it work? Why didn't Flame love him? Why was he all alone?

He remembered the stone in his pocket; it struck him painfully to think that he left it alone all night in an enclosed space. The grown man pulled the crystal from his pocket and started to laugh—when he first came to Gaia the 'child' would have meant nothing to him… now he was worrying about leaving it alone in a pocket. Victor slumped back onto the ground with Noémie sitting in his cupped hands. She looked so gentle, so sweet. The shade of red reminded him of his mother's hair when she dyed it for the first time.

The memories of his mother were painful. Love and hated were flowing through his veins, both intermixing and causing grief for the man. How did he feel about his mother? Victor remembered her getting vexed with him for finding a modeling agent—he also remembered that she was the first one in line when his magazine cover was released to the streets. She always took care of him, and now he could only recall certain memories and days from her time on Earth. Was he a bad son for forgetting… or was she a bad mother for being forgettable?

Noémie's exterior was as hard as a rock, but cool as a piece of stainless steel—Victor could only find these items to describe her as he never really had much experience with gemstones (too gaudy for his tastes). The sensation on his fingertips was refreshing; it felt much better then the sweaty outside of a beer bottle. Victor would have been happy sitting there in the alleyway all night as long as his daughter remained in his hand, but he started to worry about her. Flame said she was a happy fire… did that mean she has to be happy and warm to actually grow? He rolled the tiny crystal around in his hands in an attempt to warm her up, but she still gave the tingly feeling from before. "Please… please warm up."

Victor became scared for his child. It was just like when his mother fell ill; her skin became icy and clammy, and she lost all color in her face. She made a full recovery, but Victor felt distanced and alone ever since that time. Tristan, his older brother, spent his time taking care of their mother during her hour of need. Victor instead spent his nights with friends—it would be better to fake happiness than to see suffering (in his opinion). Tristan gave the party-animal a severe tongue lashing. This was how the ruffian grew apart from his ever-loving family… This was how the Victor of today started to gain his insecurities.

He shook himself from his daydreaming. Here his child could be dying for all he knew, and he was thinking of his deceased mother. Victor curled his legs up close to his body and stroked Noémie again, praying that she would get warmer. He wanted to go home; he wanted to ask Flame for help… No, he didn't specifically want her. When Victor looked at the situation again he decided that he just wanted someone to help him. Who it was didn't matter at a time like this.

"Hey, are you okay? Not many people curl up to sleep behind a bar…"

How funny, now that he thought about getting help, someone actually came along. The man peeked up between his bangs (which had now fallen in front of his face in a shaggy manner) to see a promiscuous-looking woman leaning down towards him. She wore a bright pink tube-top and a tight purple miniskirt. It seemed that if Victor stuck out his hand to touch her, she would leave a very sticky feeling afterwards.

This was Victor's chance for help; it was a chance to save his daughter. The woman eyed him carefully, giving him a grin every time she passed his face with her hungry aqua orbs—he found this surprising at the moment for he was covered in dried, crusted vomit. She extended a freshly manicured hand to assist him. Victor resentfully batted it away.

He clutched Noémie firmly in his right palm and used his left arm against the brick wall to push himself up. "I'm fine. Look, why don't you go back into the bar and find someone more… interested."

Victor grinned to himself as he walked away from the fake woman. He had Noémie to help with his problems. No woman could cover that… except for one. Bah, at the moment he didn't even have the strength to fight for Flame's love. All he wanted to do was go home and take a shower (and maybe cuddle up in a warm bed with his daughter after that).

He slipped the crystal into his pocket as he left the dreaded alleyway, but he never stopped stroking its surface. "Noémie…" The name was so reminiscent of his worldly home… the one before Gaia. Victor found himself silently hoping that he could take his child there one day. "Promise me that you won't turn out to be a lesbian, okay? Women are nothing but trouble, including moms." He had no idea why he told his daughter this, or where it even came from, but it made him feel much more secure.

::Confusion::Entry III

What's my problem, anyways?

"Flame...?" Victor stepped through the open door frame, darting his eyes about suspiciously. There was a deep-seeded fear about confronting Flame for the first time since his Ruesaiah appointment buried in his heart. His little crystal rested in his pocket, still the same as ever. "Flame." He called again, still receiving no answer. Where the hell was that woman? The man started to search the house, starting with the kitchen. Victor moved through every room until he came to the empty bedroom... the one Flame claim to be a future nursery. Cautiously, Victor pushed open the door and peeked inside. "Dammit woman, what are you doing back here?"

The woman was in a sun washed room, for now empty but soon would be full of little things for Merric. On the floor rested a flag, a toy ship, a egg, a blanket and one little boy. The baby looked up at the man, one blue eye glinted from his dark skin, the other was dull and unmoving. "Dammit woman!" he repeated and Flame frowned, "No Merric, you don't say words like that," she scolded, picking him up then glancing at Victor. "And neither should you," she added.

"Who's the brat?" It took a moment to settle into his dense skull, but Victor eventually picked up the fact that the sword once decorating the room was gone. "This little kid was that sword? Gaia's one weird place..." He then paused and mused for a moment, "Though I am getting a daughter from a crystal..."

"Brat!" Merric called out and pointed to Victor. Flame couldn't stop the small giggle but she shook off her mirth easily. "It's not that odd, it's simply a soul needing another chance to be reborn," Flame replied. "How is your crystal Victor?" she asked. No she didn't approve of Victor having a crystal, but that didn't mean she wouldn't check on it.

The vain man grinned upon thinking of his beautiful daughter. He gently caressed his fingers over her before pulling her out into the bright sunlit room. "Here she is..." There was a distinct softness in his voice when he spoke of her... once that was recently absent when he talked with Flame.

She glanced at Victor and then held Merric closer. He wasn't as heartless as she liked to believe some time. The neko glanced at the crystal and she knew he loved the crystal at least.

He started to roll the crystal around in his palms. It was his wish for Flame to love his daughter... to love him. "Will you help me raise her?"

Flame gave him a small smile, the first one she given him in a long time. She walked a bit closer, "Of course Victor, you know I will," she assured him.

Merric didn't like this happy moment of healing. His pudgy hands reached out and grabbed the shiny crystal. "Mine!"

Victor's eyes lit up in anger when his child was removed from the sanctuary of his grasp. He reached forward to snatch her back, but stopped midway in fear of breaking her. "Give her back you little... monkey." It was the first time in a long while that Victor watched his language; this wasn't for Merric's sake, but for Noemie's.

"Monkey! Monkey!" Merric yelled, shaking his fist, and Noemie, up and down. He twist and struggled, wanting to run away with his new prize but Flame snagged the crystal. "No," she said firmly, "That's Victor's, not yours."

"Mine!" Merric called out, face twisting up into tears as he started to cry. "I want! I want! I want!"

Victor rolled his eyes and gave a flashy smile to Flame. "Thanks. I was afraid the little... guy was going to break her." His eye twitched each moment he had to cover a curse word.

She glanced at him and nodded, a thanks for him, then gave him the crystal again. "Don't worry, I've worked with these crystals," she assured him, moving up to hug Merric. "Apologize Merric for taking Victor's daughter." "Pretty! Mine!"

"You little b*****d!" Victor grabbed the collar of the little boy with his free hand and started shaking it. Someone had to teach this kid some manners, and if it had to be him, so be it.

Merric was taken from his grip quickly as he was placed on the ground. Flame took a step up to Victor. "Don't you DARE touch my son Victor!" she snapped, "If I feel the need to punish him, then I will but he is not your son! And you have no right to punish him!"

"I have every right to punish him... he tried to STEAL my DAUGHTER!" Victor stomped around like an upset child. "This isn't my fault!"

"He tried to take a shinny object," Flame shot back. "He's a baby, he doesn't get there is a soul in there! It's one thing for you to hit Ranger, he was all grown up but don't you dare threaten Merric you miserable, small minded, vain....mediocre lover!"

"That's not what Shelia said last night." His statement oozed in slime as he sauntered out the door with Noémie in hand. Right now there were plenty of choices he could have made, but he happened to choose the one that was most likely piss Flame off most. Bad friggin' move. Victor regretted his actions the moment he left the room (though he would never admit it) and started to contemplate what he should do now. There was the possibility of turning around and apologizing to Merric, maybe buying the brat an ice cream cone... Ah screw it, apologizing just wasn't worth the effort to the vain French man.

Jesus that hurt more then it should have. Flame turned away and reached up to rub her eyes. Why in the world did something like that still hurt? Because you love him her heart whispered. Shut up! Her mind yelled back. He didn't love her, not really. If he really loved her he wouldn't say stupid stuff like that. He wouldn't hurt her kids. He just wanted someone to replace his mom...And wasn't she doing just that?

Merric watched his mum with wide eyes, titling his head to the side then looking to the door. "Shiny," he said and held his arms up, expecting love and attention now. When Flame didn't react instantly he screwed up his face and started to cry.

"Oh, Merric, shh..." Flame murmured reaching down and picking him up. "Shh, it's okay. Mommy's okay."

The man almost chuckled to himself as he thought about what he said. Did he even know a woman named Shelia? Probably at one time, but not recently... His mind started to drift to different things, and he found himself in his bedroom (which had recently been shared by his son Russell). Sitting on an end table was a bright orange lava lamp that he had bought Russell when he was just a boy. Now that his son was gone, Victor had no real use for it. The man shuffled his way back to the nursery and took a deep breath. "Flame, I don't need this anymore... and I figured Merric could use it as a night light." He extended his arm out in order to hand the lamp to his ex-girlfriend.

User Image

Flame looked over contently and then stopped as she looked at the light. She remembered when he got that, plus a journal for Russel and...a bracelet for her. The bracelet was given to her on Valentines day. She cursed her memory and took a deep breath. She put Merric down for a moment and flashed him his gold coin. The boy grabbed it and clutched it greedily.

"Thank you victor" Flame said, walking over to take it, careful to not touch his hands. "I'm sure Merric will love it. Wont you Merric?" Flame asked.

"Mine!" he called out, it was shinny that was enough for him. Flame smiled at her boy and went to plug it in. It would keep her little pirate happy at least.

"Great." He tried to smile at Flame, but he avoided the pirate at all costs. That kid meant trouble, and trouble meant everything would be blamed on the French guy. Victor started to fidget in his spot as if there were words he yearned to say. "So, is there anything specific that I have to do with my crystal?"

Flame glanced at him and knew he was sorry but that didn't mean it made her feel any better. There was a difference between feeling passing regret and coming out and saying it. She knew he wanted to get back together and so did a part of her. But she wasn't going to forgive him just because he gave her puppy eyes. She wanted an apology because if she meant more then his pride then she would know he truly loved her. "No, you been doing what you had to do" she told him, "Keep her with you...love her"

"Well that's no problem... no problem at all." The teeth that he spent so much time perfecting flashed a brilliant smile towards Flame. He waved his hand thrice in the air before receding in an elegant fashion. This was no problem at all, he'd just have to remind her about the French lover that she fell in love with... No problem at all.

His graceful exit was ruined before it had a chance to really sink into anyone's mind. As soon as Victor turned to leave the room, something happened. A bright flurry of color flashed before his, and only his, eyes. He started to stagger and smashed his newly-healed nose right into the wall... hard. "Dammit!" The angry man started to shout a barrage of curses in his native tongue as he now clutched his bleeding nose to prevent any bleeding.

"Baise!" Merric called out happily, his mouth twisting the French curse into sounding like a cheerful greeting but no matter how it sounded Flame knew that it was also something Merric shouldn't say. Merric liked this one though as he repeated it a few times till finally he got hit lightly. Just enough so he'll pay attention to her. Finally the pirate stopped.

Flame sighed as she looked down at her son then over to her ex. She watched him curse and knew she should see if he was alright. She moved over and grabbed Merric, lifting him up and placing him into a crib she got for when he emerged. She handed his coin then headed back to Victor, placing a hand on his shoulder, "Are you okay?"

"No!" He continued to keep his hands clamped over his nose--he mostly just wanted to prevent the oozing blood from staining his expensive silk shirt. "I just walked into a bloody wall, how the hell do you think I am?" Victor snapped at Flame and gave her a 'go to hell look' before letting a few tears escape about his 'boo boo'. You're not gonna win her back if you act like this... His conscious was right, and he knew it. "I'm sorry Flame, but no, I'm not fine." There, he attempted to be nice. That was good, right?

Flame sighed as he snapped, she walked over to a tissue box and pulled out a few tissues. She reached up to place them on his nose, "There, that should stop the blood from getting all over the place" she told him, "go to the kitchen, get some ice, put a cloth around it and hold it to you nose. That should help and if you want I can get you some aspirin" Flame would always help if push came to shove.

"Yeah... okay..." Victor started to stagger away, feeling like a blasted idiot. What kind of strong man runs head into a wall anyways? His legs hurt, his nose was bleeding, and for the first time in his life he was wishing to be back in the hospital. At least there he wouldn't be the lamest one around...

No... That was a lie. That stupid gown that opened in the back did make him the lamest one.

He eventually made his way down the stairs and into the kitchen. Victor then took a red washcloth (for it matched his shirt) and wrapped it in ice to stop the swelling. "Flame?" His question echoed throughout the kitchen and nearby stairwell. "Can you come down here for a moment?"

Flame rolled her eyes as he left and she turned to Merric, smiling slightly as she dangled her fingers around till he caught them in his grip and examined them closely. She smiled and laughed softly. Her little pirate king. She hummed slightly under her breath. She needed to look up pirate songs...

Then, "Flame? Can you come down here for a moment" Flame sighed as she heard Victor's voice. "That man" Flame said to Merric as she reached down and picked him up, "Is the most helpless being in all of Gaia" She then held Merric to her as she walked down stairs. Merric was her shield, she could concentrate on him instead of Victor if she felt the need.

"What do you want Victor?" Flame asked as she stepped down and looked over at him.

"I…uh…" He stumbled around the words that lingered on his foreign tongue. There were so many thoughts, but not enough time. Victor longed to ask so many questions… to tell her so many things. Eventually, the man stretched out his arms in a "chicken-wing" sort-of-fashion and gave a long, irritated sigh. "I have to go to the store. Will you watch Mie for me? She's on my nightstand table, just please make sure that Merric doesn't touch her." His request was in a calm tone, but his mind was in knots. Victor hurried out the back door without waiting for Flame's reply.

I can't tell her… not right now… not right now. The confused man kept walking until he reached a large tree. He used his arms to keep himself steady as he collapsed against its gargantuan form. It took a few moments, but he started to laugh very lightly. "What's my problem, anyways?" Victor outstretched his hand and looked at the long, crimson mark that appeared to be a freshly inked tattoo. "She wouldn't care about these things… They just look like tattoos…" A desperate, defeated laugh escaped his mouth again. That's what he would call them… tattoos… no one needed to know what they really were.

Flame stared at the man ran out. She raised an eyebrow, Victor confused her 9 out of 10 times. The man would seem like he was on the verge of something important, or romantic and then he would stop and do something stupid, that that nose thing. She sighed and hugged Merric to her tightly.

"Merric, I don't know what to do with this man" she said softly, "Letting him stay tears at my heart but he has no where else to go. At least no where that he will go" Flame took a deep breath and let it out, "Oh well, at least you aren't distressed by him" she said with a smile as she looked at him, "I better get Mie and then I bet you're just starving" Flame said with a laugh as she snuggled her pirate king.

::Ponderings::Entry IV

Was this a life for the better, or were these hapless diversions that detained the bright future he was ultimately soaring for?

Stale, that was the only word that could describe the scenery enclosing the man in the tree. No breeze kissed his face, and the limbs that were once bountiful with the green offspring of the great oak were fading into the colors of autumn's despair. Dying rays from the rich sun were caught and strangled by the canopy overhead, and the atmosphere of the forest started to become bleak and dismal; not even the tiny woodland children were out, for they had better things to do than to keep a lonely man company.

Victor sat cradled in betwixt two branches, barely giving thought to the fact that either could snap in the blink of an eye; though maybe he didn't care. His thoughts and fears pined away at his soul, and his usual bright blue orbs were dull and listless. The French model found himself brooding for the life that he once had—his former magnitude in the city of Paris. He was a sex-symbol everywhere; women and men desired him to work for him, and he had most likely sired some offspring during that time. Now, here in Gaia, he was a changed man. Children actually called him father, and he had a job that required him to sweat. Was this a life for the better, or were these hapless diversions that detained the bright future he was ultimately soaring for?

What about Noémie, did she matter nothing to him? Would she be able to find a future seeded in her father's past, or would he have to move on in order to provide her with some sort of life? Was it worth it? Flame could offer the child something better, something worth living for. All Victor could do is set an example as a mediocre role model and eventually chase her away…

Ideas of death and suicide gradually crept into his mind; his life had developed into a meaningless mix of angst and mediocrity. His personality was no better than that of a child's, except people preferred the company of a spoiled brat over a conversation with him. Tristan, his only sibling, seemed not to care about his blemished star of a brother after their little reunion; a single fight ripped the woven fabrics of their family. Flame made it clear that she wanted Victor to leave and never return; the same as his other lovers had done.

His fingers began to dangle dangerously near the edge of the tree, and the man felt his body slipping away into the faint edges of reality. Dreams and fantasies of past glory tempted Victor to leap… leap from the arms of the loving tree into the dark embrace of forgotten shadows. This was not the first time Victor had considered suicide, though those murky, torrid times of his past were already faded and forgotten. After all, why would one wish to remember the cold fact that he was adopted… and all life before that could be considered a living hell?
