Lets face it- We never ever get tired of discussing what is quick becoming urban legend in victim circles: The Murder Mystery Trilogy.
First for those of you not in the know, the trilogy consists of The Midnight Show, Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, and Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf.
Now as far as I know, no one's ever heard Leave The Bourbon on The Shelf, and some people have even misquoted the title.
(My personal fave: Uncle Johhny Left The Bourbon On The Shelf )
Therefore, we can only put the peices of 2/3's of the story together, having only the 2 songs to work with.
Even the order of the songs has been up for debate.
And occasionally one is compelled to try and fit in a completely unrelated song (like Under The Gun), clearly we can get carried away and here is the place to do it.
I've often thought of working out our own theory on the story and making it into a comic, to be posted here in installments.
So discuss away- and lets also face this:
Do we really ever want the mystery solved for us?
Of course not, where's the fun in that?

I think the order is "Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf," "Midnight Show," and "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine."

Jenny Was a Friend of Mine in a tiny, tiny, nutshell:
In this song, I think he's talking to the police/investigators to clear himself as suspect. He's telling them what had happened: "We took a walk that night but it wasn't the same... We had a fight on the promenade out in the rain..."
But then, he let's some slip by accident: "She couldn't scream while I held her close, I swore I'd never let her go..."
The investigator knows he's the murderer: "And then you whisper in my ear, I know what you're doing here"
He tries to redeem himself, knowing that he had slipped up: "There ain't no motive for this crime... Jenny was a friend of mine"

But its practically a confession isn't it?
Maybe subconscously he wants to be caught...

Yeah, it really is a confession. Which is why he tries to redeem himself by claiming that there was no motive.

But could they convict him for saying that?
Does it legally count as a confession?

I don't think it'd be legal to arrest him for saying that. But it would cause more investigation into him being the murderer.

That would explain the detective's agitated I Know What Youre Doing Here comment....
Well Jenny is relatively easy to figure out compared to Midnight SHow! 0_<
You can speculate forever on that one!

Didn't something say that she died due to something with water? Like, perhaps the promenade mention in "JWAFOM" was next to a river or something and he drowned her.

I don't its so much that she died because she was drowned or anything. I think he disposed of the body in the water. "The crashing tide can hide a guilty girl"
He says, "I took my baby's breath beneath a chandelier of stars and atmosphere." I think that means he possibly strangled her, literally taking her breath.

Random fun fact: at the Vegas show in 2005, he changed the lyrics to "she kicked and screamed while I held her close" at one point. I was pretty much floored.

That could also mean he smothered her

I'm pretty sure its "can hide". It seems to make more sense that way.

It's always sounded like "can't" to me.. but that may be because I'm used to people never pronouncing their T's
