Can someone elaborate on this music style? I have no knowledge of it, and from what others have mentioned, it sounds pretty cool. Artists? anything? And what is it exactly?

I'm sure there's other in here that know much more than me. I used to frequent a Goa/Psy trance streaming radio. It was crazy stuff. Good, but crazy.

basically as far as I've been able to tell, the main difference in psy and GOA from regular trance, is two things, the "mood" and some of the sounds used to create that mood.

psy tends to be kinda.. futuristic, and aggressive (to me) and goa tends to follow the same idea but has a slightly more east indian / middle eastern feel.

my personal preferances are for the really aggressive guitar driven stuff.

dark soho
1200 mics
and if you want one of the most recognized artists of the whole area of music, "infected mushroom" is a good starter for those trying to get to know it.

if you want more i can list a bunch linen sent me it's all pretty ******** awesome

(theres also on the odd occasion some psybreaks but their quite rare but pure quality)

Hmm, did a little research on some groups. Compiled a tiny, tiny list.

There's a couple. I suggest with starting with Infected Mushroom and Astral Projection first. They were definately the easiest to find info on. sweatdrop I hope I helped a little.

goa-trance is by far one of my favorite genres besides drum 'n' bass. i have found that Goa is more darker, distant, grittier, and sometimes even evil. theres alot of goa out there that has some great cuts from rock (guitar solos, lyrics) too. Psy-trance is more lighter. it has the same beat as goa, but everything is more happy, lighter, and more of a techno jump up vibe to it. as sometimes i cant stand the cheeseyness of psytrance, there are some great artists out there.

i would recommend the artists above and also check out Astrix (one of my fav) and Wizack Twizack (REALLY dark wink

Infected Mushroom being the most popular (especially their earlier stuff) would be a great base to get you into this genre.

I'll show you why some people on Gaia gave me the moniker of "psy-trance king". Here is a list I compiled of different psy/goa/butt rock and psy tekk artists. Check em out!
And Ronin can confirm that I have a really good psy library. wink

The main difference between psy and Goa is that the predecessor of psy. They used to call it "goa trance" untill about 97-99 where they switched to Psychedelic trance to mark a slight change in sound. Psy is a "wee" more minimal where goa was ALL-OUT melodic (full-on goa for the initiated).

Psy also sounds more "futuristic". Less "organic".

Then some Israelite that were found of Heavy Metal developped the sound of "Butt-Rock Goa", charectirized by it's heavy distorted guitar riffs and solos in loops (usually played with LIVE guitar in parties). It is also WAY darker sounding than the usual goa-trance.

Around that same period, influenced by "techno" minimalist sounds, so drifted to created Psy-Tech (or tech-trance). It is chaterized by it's really gritty minimal sound, deep bass and toned down psy melodies. That kind of psy is the best soundtrack for an invasion of killer robots to paraphrase Ishkur.

There is also Psy-Ambient. Shpongle is the best exemple of that.

Yes it is like pope s**t.
It is some good stuff but they take away the really deep constant bass that I love. It is good, but not as much as some slammin' butt-rock or some real gritty Psytech! wink

X-dream USED to be psy, now they're pretty much psy tech.
Etic as well.......
Enterprise is definetely psy.
