Joshua Brook came walked up his laneway and stopped to pull out a weed from the grass. Then he opened his front door and stepped inside. He never kept it locked, and most of the time, in the warm weather he left it wide open. What was the worst thing that could happen? He took off his muddy boots and put on the kettle on the stove making sure to pick up the toys that were on the ground and putthem in a basket. This was his home, where he would farm, where he would live and where he would invite people over to socialize. It was hard to believe he didn't have his mom to help him with the farming chores or to make dinner. He had to do that for himself. He was very close to his mother and now he was alone.

Smiling, she walked up to Brooks' house, and knocked, which caused the slightly open door to creak open.
"Hello!" She called out, wondering if she should come back later. Stepping into the house she called again, "Is anyone home?"
"Maybe I should just leave it on the table..."
looking around the open house, she saw that the house was warm and cozy, but seemed a little empty. Typical for a current "moving into" home. She looked around, and stepped a little further into the house, not wanting to be rude, and intrude with permission.

Ceasar got up lazily and barked once at the intruder in his home. Joshua Brook heard this and got up from his old sofa, "Are you hungry old boy?" he said patting his dog. He looked up and saw Taylor standing in his house. "Oh, sorry, it's not very neat in here. I haven't really started unpacking and it's really a mess... Would you like some tea?" he offered imediately surprised at seeing her there. He tried to make her feel as at home as possible. "Ceasar doesn't make a very good guard dog..." he said ruffling his dog's old hair. "I wasn't expecting you so soon!"

Brook got up and went outside. It was raining. Perfect, he thought to himself. Now he was supposed to go feed his cow and horse in the muck. But hey, that's what the farm life is all about. Twice a day, Brook thinks about moving into the city. It would be SO much easier! But then he is reminded of freedom and tractors and his animals. He walked across his deck to where he could see the town. It was not very busy and really wet! "Ceaser!" he called out, "Come here boy. Ew, get down you are getting me all dirty!" he said smiling at his silly dog. "No seriously...get off!" Brook fell down into a puddle and said nothing more to his dog. Ceaser walked off with his tail between his legs.
