How do you make sure to get your daily amount of proteins?

I myself am slagging a bit so I don't get enough at the moment and that makes my muscles shrink X______X So I'm feeling a little weak at the moment. But what can I do?

What do you do?

I always try to have at least one type of soy product every day, because I read that soy protien is the only complete non-animal protien out there. Anyway, grilled tofu is one of my favorite foods now.

But it was really bad when I lost my electricity because I couldn't cook anything. Only the microwave worked.

Microwaved tofu? O.o Ucky.

Tofu's prolly the best source of protein, and it's not as bad as people think if you can get creative with it... try chopping it up and throwing it in with a stir-fry. Yummy.

You can usually get enough protein in your daily eating, in your fruits and veggies - seriously, most people get too MUCH protein, which is hard on your kidneys. I don't know if you're an athlete of any kind, but since you describe feeling sluggish and your muscles shrinking, it sounds like you are - in which case, you would definitely need to add extra protein.

They're all right, soy protein is the best kind, and it's good for your heart. There's a brand called Quorn that uses something called mycoprotein, which is also very good for you, but if you have any kind of allergies to mushrooms or other kinds of fungus, you would want to stay away from it.

Legumes are really easy, good forms of protein, but some people have digestive issues with them. Soy protein is probably your best bet. smile

you don't want to only eat soy. try have beans one night, soy the next then gluten if you can, gluten is like a wheat seed with all carbs removed, its extremely high in protein, and when prepareed properly, is delicious! On average you need at least 50 grams, so when you wake up have a bowl of cereal with milk OR soy milk, or have a glass. Really all you have to do is eat everything in proportion. If you live in a meat eating enviroment, and a vegetarian, or vegan meal is prepared don't be lazy and ewat around what you've cut out of your diet, eating more carbs and fibres and that other stuff doesn't make up for what your missing.

Also if 50 grams is hard to get may I suggest a Clif bar, or another nutritios bar. these are very healthy and one a day make meeting your daily need of nutrients much easier. At least on those day your too lazy to count and keep track of everything...

Drink more soymilk... I think about at least 2 cups should fill in a big protein gap.
TVP is pretty good too - you can use it like ground meat or something.

Grains are high in protien.
Look at the stats on some durem pasta (regular ol' spagetti) - mine has an 85 g serving at 12 grams of protein. You only need 60 grams of protein a day.

Your muscles won't shrink - seriously... Most people who are deficint in protein are usually starving. Protein DOES NOT give you energy as much as carbohydrates do... serious, if your tired, go eat, or sleep.

That sounds like something a Meat-eater would say. Whenever they use that it drives me crazy. I also think "Why do you care about my health if all you want to do is bother me?"

But in this case I will explain. I never really cared about my health much. And I'm really not super-skinny to begin with. Not saying I'm fat, just not skinny. So I eat what I eat and don't keep track of it. If it's hurting me and not the animals, I don't really care.

If you're not a vegan, I'd recommend soy products as well as beans, nuts, etc. in addition to stuff like cottage cheese. DON'T cut protein out of your diet as it's pretty damned unhealthy. Without enough protein, body tissues WILL begin to break down. The jury is out to lunch on tofu (so far as I'm concerned) because most producers use gypsum as a coagulent. Gypsum is the same stuff that they use to make drywall and plaster . neutral

VERY IMPORTANT:
Do NOT consume too much soy, the body will just dispose of it.

Diversify your protein! The vast majority of non-meat protein is incomplete, meaning that it's lacking amino acids that are essential to good health. It's possible to get all those amino acids, just make sure that you eat a good variety of protein containing foods.

How much protein do you need in a day? Experts recommend that you get 9 grams of protein per twenty pounds of body weight. For example, I weigh 150 pounds. That means that I need to consume at least 67.5 grams of protein daily. Someone who only weighs 100 pounds needs to consume at least 45 grams of protein a day. Anyone who isn't a "math person" can feel free to ask me how much they need in this thread (you can ask in a PM for a 'friend' if you'd prefer, ladies wink ).

I wouldn't recommend consuming much more than the daily recommendation, as too much protein [no matter the sources] will strip the bones of calcium.

You get enough protein already. If you want MORE protein, which I don't really recommend, then you can do what I do and eat peanut-butter and jelly sandwhiches. Make sure you get the whole grain, natural bread. There are also vegan protein powders that you can put in smoothies in vitamin stores and sometimes grocery stores.

Fake meats usally have plenty of protine, and if you check out your local healthfood store they're bound to have plenty of vegan meats. Pastas can be good, as long as they're not the nutrient-lacking 'normal' pasta, try soy pasta or multigrain, it's also reccomended that you buy multi-grain breads as well. Nuts are also a good source of protine, though they tend to be high in fat and calories. Soymilk is good (and chocolate soymilk is oh-so nummy! whee ) and of course there's always tofu! You can do soooo much with tofu! Make sauces, dips, soups, salads, stir-fry, casseroles, and so much more!
