Each item is given a category. These are marked by the letter in square brackets at the beginning of every description.
Current Categories:
[W] Weapon - Equippable items. This category usually does not include an item for the egg stage.
[A] Armour - Equippable items.
[T] Toy - Toys are decorative items, and will appear near the feet (or equivalent).
