Is Sirius really dead?
No, not in my oppinion. I have hope.
Yes, and it would be foolish to say he was not. They made it clear he was dead.

I really would love to discuss this subject with some literate Harry Potter debaters. I am new in this guild and on Gaia, and I have stopped going on Gaia for a while until now, so please stop me if I say something stupid.

I really don't think that Sirius (or any other dead people) will come back. I read an interview with JKR somewhere where she states that she feels that the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort has to see Harry all alone. That is why she is killing off anyone that would end up stepping in to do it for Harry. He needs to do this thing by himself, and Sirius would never let him confront Voldemort solo. Same goes for Dumbledore. That is not to say that they won't have some influence upon him in book 7. I think that Dumbledore's portrait and/or Fawkes will influence what Harry does in some way. I also expect to see more of Grimmauld Place and Sirius' mirror. But the actual people coming back to talk to/help Harry ... very unlikely.

The series, while inicially aimed at young readers, is not a fluffy feel-good story. There is death and hate and dispair and loss in the world of Harry Potter. It just would not have the impact it does if everyone was alive and happy in the end.

Look, I know it's really unlikely that he'll come back, but that doesn't mean i can hope. i love him, he was one of my favorite characters and I hope he'll come back. Besides, falling through the arch, dying in such a way, gives his death a....loophole if you will. A way, however to unlikely, to bring him back.
Hey, a girl can hope, can't she?

Oh you can definately hope, I would never try to take that away from you.

But what you said about dying in via the archway providing a loophole, I tend to see that the opposite way. The archway in the Death Room is used by the Department of Mysteries to research and study death. I really don't think that something that provides potentially "reversible death" would be used to research the phenomenon. I think that because Sirius died via the archway, his death is even more concrete. Lupin and the other OotP members seemed convinced that the archway provided no second chance, and being the as close to experts on the Department of Mysteries as you can get without being an Unspeakable, I think they would know best as to what the arch does. That is not to say that the arch won't play some role in book 7, I am pretty certain that we will at least hear about it again. It was left too vague, there were too many hints as to what it is all about without actually telling us, to be able to just drop the subject for good.

Anyways, you go right ahead and have hope that Sirius will come back. I, on the other hand, need a bit more convincing before I will join you. lol
