It was a bright morning, and the sun in its full glory made Emberzyn's feathers glow like fire. The large male hippogriff was stretching his wings with an early flight. He felt odd today -- lighter than air, as if he weighed nothing more than a hatchling fresh from its egg. Even his mind was oddly clear.
Well, clear save for one thing.
As Emberzyn spied a shape moving on the earth below him, he corrected himself. "Alright, TWO things." Food was second on that list, and an unwary rabbit was about to be breakfast.
A few seconds later, 'Zyn was carrying the limp ex-rabbit in his beak. He was proud of himself for not making a mess this time. Blood took forever to clean off of feathers...
His stomach did a flip as he quickly changed course, heading to a part of the forest that was familiar to him. He had flown over it many times at many different hours, but always for the same reason. Hoping to catch a glimpse of her...
And he hoped that Rogue was hungry this morning.

The pale hippogriff emerge from her enclave with drowsy eyes. Giving an inaudible yawn she stretched out her wings and shook the sleep from her body. Seeing a few loose feathers, Rogue brushed her wings with the tip of her beak, catching them and ridding herself of the nusiance though she did drop them by the entrance to her home for storage.
Taking a few steps forward, the lone hippogriff stared into the sky. The sun was unhindered by clouds and the sky was a clear crystaline blue. It had been awhile since she had come out during the day. Rogue had taken to lurking in the moonlight when the pale silver light was to her advantage.
Turning to the side to see if her neighbors were she noticed a great burning figure in the sky. The hippogriff squinted and for a moment thought that perhaps it was a phoenix from the tales of the Storyteller, but as the figure got closer, Rogue realized it was Emberzyn.
Startled, the ghostly female did a small nervous dance, her feathers slightly ruffled. She hadn't seen the other hippogriff since their last meeting. It wasn't that she had tried to avoid him, but what had happened the last time had come as a suprise to her and she had needed time to think things through.
Still she wasn't sure of what to do, but Rogue was rooted to the ground, waiting.

Emberzyn's heart caught in his throat when he saw her pale, almost ghost-like form watching him from below. He hadn't expected to see her out so early... half of him had expected to call into her cave to her to wake her from outside, and the other half had nervously thought that he might not want to wake her, at all. He knew she preferred the night... the cool air, the darkness, the stars.
But the wind keeping him aloft let him know that he wasn't dreaming. Slowly he began to descend toward her, spiraling until he came to rest several yards away. Then he trotted a bit closer and put the freshly-killed rabbit down.
"I thought all the stars had disappeared by this hour," he quipped, a slow smile creeping across his face. "But I see I was wrong. How are you, Rogue?"

She hid her head to the side at the compliment and then looked straight at the fire like hippogriff.
"That was rather corny," she paused then added with a cheer, "though sweet. I have been well. Summer is warm and I perfer the cool night air, how have you been?"
With her question up in the air, her clear blue eyes glanced over at the kill. She mouth began to mouth, she had yet to have breakfast and she was getting hungry. Rogue to a hungered step forward then stopped. She had nearly forgotten that she was in the middle of a conversation and that the kill was not her's. Taking a step back, she looked to Emberzyn, keeping her eyes off the delectable meal.

Emberzyn chuckled. "Well, that's not the first time I've been called corny... but, ahhh... I brought you some breakfast," he said, not unaware that Rogue was eyeing the fresh kill. "Only a few minutes old!"
He reached down and picked the dead rabbit up in his beak, closing the distance between them to lay it at her feet. "I'm a bit surprised to see you out this early, myself. Not that I'm complaining..."
'Zyn shifted from hoof to hoof, looking slightly nervous, but he smiled again as he nudged the rabbit toward her with his beak.

If she had not a beak, she would have flashed Emberzyn a silly grin before she began to tear at the rabbit. She attacked the kill with a vengence. In truth, she had not left her lair in days. She had been surviving on what she had saved within in her own home. Rogue had felt a need to be in solitary to think, but not anymore.
As she ate, she thought about the other hippogriff. He had been a friend and their last meeting had showed that there was possibly more. She had found that she liked the idea. She wasn't shy around him, she wasn't nervous or doubtful.
Except perhaps of one thing.
Her hunger lessened as she thought on. It had been a while since they had met. She had left him shortly and quickly, not quite hiding nor avoiding but isolating herself in her own thoughts. What if he had changed his mind? What if he taken the long days as rejection.
By this time Rogue had stopped eating. Her mouth was dry. She glanced up at the Emberzyn, fire incarnate, through her lashes, thinking of what if's.
(( Oh my goodness... sorry about my response. It's so angst, lol. I just finished reading a x-men fanfiction with a rogue and gambit pairing. See how they influence me!! xD ))

'Zyn smiled to himself as he watched Rogue eat, pleased that she accepted the meal from him. He also noticed how ravenous she was, and wondered to himself how long it had been since she had a meal. It wasn't too surprising to him... he knew she favored the coolness and seclusion of her cave.
When she had nearly finished with her meal, Emberzyn felt hesitant again. He had a lot of what-if's on his mind, too. What if she wasn't interested? What if his mind was playing tricks on him? What if she became offended by his advances?
These unpleasant thoughts made 'Zyn nervous, and he scuffed at the ground with one hoof. "This is unlike me... I'm supposed to be bold!" he thought to himself. "I didn't know this was going to be so difficult."
"I haven't seen you in a while Rogue, I hope you've been well," he said aloud, at last. "To be perfectly blunt... I have missed you."
((Hehe, that's alright! Makes things interesting! XD ))

Head still bowed, her eyes widened in suprise. She hoped that meant what she it meant and she looked up at Emberzyn with hope. She gave him a hesitant smile before taking a step forward.
This hippogriff always seemed to bring out her social characteristics, the little that she had. She wasn't shy around or nervous. She was comfortable except in the fleeting doubts that she had. He was her counterpart. Even if her shyness faded, she was still unsure. Rogue had no practice of being around others and a romantic thought had never reached her until recently.
With little understanding of her own thinking, she acted on instinct and repeated her actions from her last encounter with 'Zyn. She nuzzled his cheeks but this time she didn't run off. She dropped her head shyly.
Quietly she responded, "I've missed you too 'Zyn."

((Bad Min, bad! gonk Must reply quicker than four days! >__<))
Emberzyn's golden eyes widened in surprise as Rogue closed the distance between them, her soft feathers brushing against his face. He felt dizzy, as if he had been caught by a particularly fierce gust of wind and tipped upside-down. And she wasn't stepping away! The firey 'griff was almost afraid to breathe, afraid he might startle her and ruin the fragile moment.
"Rogue," he mumbled, lowering his beak slightly to nuzzle the side of her face. "I..." A drop in his voice, an unusual shy smile on his face. "Would you fly with me today? I can think of nothing that would make me happier, than to have you by my side, chasing the clouds and the sun..."

Nervous that her voice may fail her, Rogue nodded her head in agreement, her eyes sparkling with delight. Her doubts had been vanquished. She was reassured knowing that what she felt and that Emberzyn's actions were true.
Nudging him by the shoulder, the pale blue hippogriff started at a run as she lept into the air. The sun blinding her from sight until she was well away from it's radiance. She climbed higher until it appeared as if she were standing on the ice cold creation that were fluffly clouds.
There she waited for him, her heart soaring higher as she watched.

'Zyn gave a small jump of delight as Rogue ran several paces and lept into the air. He was quick on her hooves to follow, pushing himself off the ground and pumping his large wings to gain altitude. In no time they were circling above her dwelling, the trees growing smaller and smaller below them and the wind pulling at their feathers.
Unconsciously a memory tugged at his mind, and a tingling feeling seemed to be weaving its way through his very veins. He had a sudden image of the bright purple and gold hippogriff he had seen flying several days ago -- how full of life and spirit she had been, how her call had prompted him to race the skies and shriek in challenge. He felt the same way now, but... it was even stronger. As he watched Rogue ahead of him, he opened his beak and a shrill call issued from his throat. It was a call of all things primal, of all things that made up his most base essence. It was the hippogriff call of the pairing flight.
Would Rogue answer?

At the sound of the call Rogue's spirit stirred. She remembered watching a hippogriff couple give each other such calls. She had watched from the shadows near the waterfall.
The pale hippogriff could do nothing but return the call, her voice piercing the silence and ringing loudly. She turned to follow up next to Emberzyn, but as she neared the hippogriff, she flew away, dancing around him.
Seducing him.
Somewhere in her thoughts, she was suprised at herself, but that thought was fleeting. Her attention was for the fire like beast alone.

((*grin* Got any creativity left today, Yiiei? ))
As Rogue pulled away, dipping and diving below him again, Emberzyn's feathers ruffled in alarm. He looked as if he'd been riled up by something, because even his fur was standing on end. Giving a screech that was half-playful, yet almost intimidating, the firey male dove after her. Now the race was on... and unlike the purple and gold griff he had chased a few days prior, 'Zyn had no intentions of letting Rogue get away.
The dizziness he had felt earlier had grown into a sort of mindless euphoria, and he knew she was the cause of it.
Whether catching her would make it end or make it worse, 'Zyn wasn't sure.
Keening again, he pumped his wings as hard as he could, straining to catch up to her.

The hippogriff touched an unknown source of strength and endurance as she continued your teasing flight about Emberzyn. She was careful to touch him in quick passes, tickling him here and there though keeping out of his reach.
Her clear blue eyes danced with happiness. This flight was a rush of it's own, sourced by the deep feeling she felt for the other hippogriff.
Loud and clear, she gave another call, provoking 'Zyn to catch her... if he could.

His muscles tensing, Emberzyn tucked his wings back and dove downward, only to cut up again in a tight arc. He swooped up in front of Rogue only a foot or two away from her, and continued to climb skyward. Now his wings were swinging furiously and his tail lashed out beneath him like an angry serpent.
He began to feel the first tingles of exhaustion... he hadn't flown this fast or this hard in quite a while, and not even hunting demanded this much effort. His breath burned in his lungs, but still he pushed himself on. He had chased her, would she chase back?
