Once long ago, horses and gryffons were a separate race. Then the gods played a cruel joke and twisted their nature around. From this play with two ancient groups came a new one-hippogriffs. Scared and hated, they fled away from those who had spawned them.
As hard as they fled, somethings they could not escape. The concept of clans and roles had come from their gryffon lineage. And then, there was a much wilder side that the normally conservative hippgriffs had... Something so primal and from the begining of their very creation that it is almost a shame to them. Horses chase down their females and mate so wildly that the whole world hears them. Gryffons court loudly the ones they love and then go quietly into the caves to be alone. Put both of these mating rituals together and there is the potential for something so great but so rare that it must be repeated.
Very few hippogriffs dare to reach deep into themselves and connect with their primitive nature. Those who do are called shamans and revered by all. But one young female no longer had a clan to take care of... No longer had a chance to be trained by one who knew how to traverse the elements. And when her time came, she awoke with such a hunger and need that she quickly took to the skies to fulfill it.
Her name... Kore.

This is an open roleplay. You do not have to be part of the mating flight to post here and join in the fun. I created this event to bring everyone together and have a good time. This idea was with me the moment Kore hatched and I have been waiting ever since to implement it. I will let those who are participating know that the results have already been decided. Kore's selected mate and her owner already know the outcome. I am sure if you are a regular in the shop thread, you already know the outcome as well! *BIG WINK*
All that nonsense being said, please remember that we follow Gaia ToS here. Posts are to remain PG-13 even if these are animals and not people. Rules are posted in the main part of this thread.
((Kore: I am not people?))
There is to be no rudeness, no begging, threatening or anything else of the sort. I am sorry if your 'griff falls in love with Kore but she is already taken.
This event will last exactly one week. It will open tomorow at 8pm EST time and end on July 14th at the same time. And remember! Have fun. OOC is allowed but only if you use (()) or [[]]!
Participants:
1. Heliacle played by Dejected_Angel 2. Leimoni played by Cosi 3. Emberzyn played by Minyain 4. Rogue played by Yiiei 5. 6.
Please PM me if you want to participate!

Kore awoke from a deep slumber in her cave. The sun was in the middle of its journey across the sky. Never really one for the day, Kore tried to understand why she was awake. Checking on Elathan, the amethyst female noted that he was okay. The egg had not yet hatched and seemed to be sleeping as well.
Then what?
A strange ache filled her belly and muscles. Not an ache from hunger, Kore knew those pains. But this was something else, something new; a longing for freedom swept through Kore like the winds swept through meadow grass. Instantly, her golden eyes widened; her whole body was aware of a new sensation travelling from the tips of her ears down to her hoofs. She needed to feel the wind on her wings and blood pumping through her limbs. Without even thinking, she leapt to the edge of her cave and then dove off.
Kore knew that there where many winds that she could ride when she left her cave. Taking one that was warm and smelled of raw emotion, Kore gave a shrill, piercing cry that echoed off the mountains and into the valley. No one could challenge such a majestic and powerful creature such as herself. She would find her kind and then prove to them who was the true mistress of the skies.

The winds carried Kore far across the valley. With each loop, she screamed her intentions and waited for a challenge to come. Gone was her training and gone was her normal self. She was one with the skies and wind. Diving downward towards the ground, Kore cried out again challenging even the earth itself.
But she did not land.
Instead, she let her hoods skim the ground before pumping her wings to head back high into the clouds. Blood pumping and primal urges egging her on, Kore went in search of her kind.

~Sleeping soundly in the tall grassy fields, Heliacle was at peace. aside from the bothersom fly which landed in her beak a few times, all was well. Bathing under the hot sun-her maroon feathers almost burnt to the touch- the hippogriff was thankful for the average strenght wind blowing.
The wind. Slowly pulled from her nice rest, Hel caught something strange in the wind. Something was not quite as it usually was. Sighing with anoyance of her disturbed sleep, she yawned to chase away the sandman. Climbing to her hoove, the dark 'griff stretched and flexed her wings. Just when the horse-size creature is about to consider taking off into the air-not only does the scent grow stronger, but she hears a cry. Her long slender ears rotated on her head, trying to catch the source of this noise-There it is again, also sending a strange echo at the back of her mind. Tilting her head, Heliacle makes a small chirp-taking a hesitant step forward.
"Ah...!" She finally says, spying a darker spot in the skies-dark purpley color...~

~After a bit of light chitter chatter, it's as if Heliacle finally found her voice and released an ear peircing cry-much like a large raptor such as a hawk would make.
Teal eyes fading to a warmer turquois-the hippogriff's mind clouds over as she beleives she recognizes the purple creature gliding in the sky above. Another weak chipper-Heliacle bends her knees before launching herself off of the ground and beating her wings.
She quickly gained speed and altitude-though it still wasn't enough to catch the rather very excited and energised Kore. Unsure why, but Heliacle was desperate to get her attention, so yet again released a shrill cry~

Kore looked back as a reddish streak hit the skies. It gave a shrill cry and chased after her. At last! One to challenge and race in the skies. Kore gave a loud roar of challenge and declaration that she was master of the skies. Heading towards the old grove caverns, Kore began to zig and zag to lose her opponent.
Down below, she noticed several other 'griffs inhabiting the valley and forests. A piercing trill let them know that she had arrived.

From far below, another hippogriff was stirred by the shrill cries of challenge. A blur of red and yellow, like a comet heading up instead of down, was barely visible as Kore and Heliacle shot past. But the male was beating his wings and gaining speed in an effort to catch up to the females.
Emberzyn didn't quite know what was happening, but he felt it all over his body -- the urge to FLY!
With a loud screech of his own, 'Zyn did spirals in the air as he raced toward the other hippogriffs.

~Ears flatten against her head, Heliacle gave another strong beat of her wings, then clasped them against her sleek body-stretching out her neck to break the wind. Slightly at an angle, she dove-finding angles to be faster than straight angles. She took advantage of the gravity and the wind beneath her wings.
However, her head quickly jerked back at the sound of another hippogriff's screech-a rather large, almost intimidating male-A rival. Driven by both the griff's cries and the opponent-Heliacle forgets herself and lets out another peircing scream. The female feels as if she lost her touch with all civilisation, zipping pass and around trees which limbs try to catch her, keep her back-But her wings simply cut through them like the sharpest of blades.
The purple hippogriff is still in sight-but damn, can she fly! Coerced even more by the simple sight of the other female-she cries one last time, ignoring the approaching male hipogriff- mimicking his spiral though into a tighter helix~

Kore looked back to see another chasing after her. At last! Now the real fun could begin. Using the air currents to quickly turn around, Kore headed straight for both of them. Just before she crashed into the female, she dove down for the ground. How exhilerating! How free! Why has she never felt like this before?
Smirking to herself, Kore wondered who else she could round up and aggitate.

~ Too busy looking back at the male, Hel didn't realise that the purple griff had spun round to then charge straight for her-But too late. Wincing and rather waiting for bones to break-she finds herself surprised to see nothing infront of her. Franctically looking around, she spies the purple one under neath-She had dove.
Heliacle mirrored Kore's flight, beaming upwards and around, rather than downwards. A jubilant screech, the hippogriff has never felt so lively-as if all of a sudden understanding this..."game". Secretly leering to herself and the sky-Another shrill cry escapes her as she suddenly stops riding the wind and let's gravity take over completely-
Hearing the whistling air rush past her ears, the maroon griff closed her eyes for just a few peaceful seconds-letting her body become one with the wind and sky. She is brutally pulled out from her blissful dream when feeling a sudden oddity in the air around her-Seems she dangerously zipped pass the male hippogriff, her surprise quickly replaced by knewfound pride. Grinning madly, the female goes into a loop and spins on herself before then returning to the chase of Kore, yet another shrill cry~

Hearing the challenging calls, Rogue turned towards the sky to watch three figures flying... playing. Their feats awed her and their dives and spins enchanted her. Her bright clear blue eyes clouded into a pale ghostly shade that of her coat as she began to trot. Breaking into a run she began to pump her wings, taking flight.
The blood was coursing through veins with excitement, but enough for her to forget herself. She was yet too shy to get too close to the others. She did not want to disturb them in their flight, so the young adult hung back. Watching with earnest.
After a time, she flew to the top of the waterfall. Standing beside the great fall, with her eyes sternly glued to those in the skies. How she wanted to join them but her nerves held her back. She was not ready to be outgoing.
Taking a few steps back, she sat half in the shadows, her head tilted skyward.
(( the agony of staying in character! ))

Pumping his wings hard, Emberzyn chased after Heliacle, nipping at her tail before swooping below her and diving in a wide arc. He wanted to chase and be chased... and to win at whatever mad competition was fueling his muscles and running through his blood.
A shot of bright purple and gold caught his attention, and 'Zyn gained altitude again as he chased after Kore. His tail swung wildly out behind him. He could sense that Heliacle was also chasing, and he gave a cry of his own. Now they were nearly side-by-side and their wings beat fiercely, trying to outpace each other to overtake the swift purple hippogriff in front of them.
((Poor shy Rogue! Don't worry, if she hasn't joined soon, Emberzyn will likely see her. xd ))

Kore was now fully in charge. It was so much fun to ride the wind and skim teh clouds. Nothing could or would ever stop her. She would be this free for as long as she had a beak and feathers. Crying loudly to the wind, she tossed her head back to see the others struggling to catch her. Out of the corner of her golden eyes, she noticed the waterfall. The mist would cool her down and perhaps she would have a chance to relax before beginning the challenge once more.
Turning on a wing, she headed straight for the waters not realizing that someone was there watching the games.
