If there was one It'd take years of development.

okay, here's the score, to my knowledge:

square were attacked when they brought out the ps3 tech demo of Final Fantasy VII's opening sequence (look it up, you n00b) by ffvii obsessives who wanna see a ps3 remake.
tetsuya nomura tried to calm the situation down by explaining that it was purely a technology showcases and although they had no intention of remaking the game now, they wouldn't rule it out for the future.
what placated a lot of people, however, was the ps1 emulation equipment in the pipeline, that will allow psp owners to port any ps1 game onto psp; including, you guessed it, the best game ever!

so, although they're gonna focus on getting the other final fantasys out in europe for now, we will see a psp ffvii, and maybe even a ps3 one in the future!

Square, years ago: "We will not be remaking Final Fantasy VII."
Square, a while later: "We do not currently have plans to remake Final Fantasy VII."
Square, now: "We have not announced a remake of Final Fantasy VII."

If you ask me, that's a pretty clear "yes". 3nodding

I just pray to god that they go multiplatform with it. No way in hell I'm paying $660 for one game.

lmao, not a bad jump of logic there, i see what you mean. tbh, sony still own the ffvii rights, and they're gonna be pretty reluctant to give them up to microsoft. as for nintendo... they've never had the best ff games; the first ones, yeah, but never the best ones.

There is supposed to be a remake in the same graphics as the movie.

Well, they've never had motion sensors, touch screens, or $2000 dev kits before either. razz
Nintendo's coming back, and Squeenix knows it. wink

As for Sony; they do have the Final Fantasy VII license, but they don't own the rights to the series. Squeenix is still free to license it to anyone else, unless their contract with Sony says otherwise (which I assure you Squeenix wouldn't have been stupid enough to do 3nodding ).

nintendo are still reeling, in terms of reputation, from when they were sued over gamecube price-fixing in europe, i think. there is also a lot of nervousness aout the wii too, it's unlikely to garner major appeal outside of the eastern market, in the same way that microsoft are still trying to break japan.
the final fantasy series, on the other hand, is still one of the most powerful licenses in hardcore gaming, and since the original break between square and nintendo was because of nintendo's strict regulations on the subjects of transvestitism, prostitution and more (as well as their reluctance to move from Cartridge format), all of which would be present in a remake, i can only see ffvii coming out on the ps3, as the final final fantasy in the series, sometime after the release of ffxiii and ffxii in europe. (phew... these numerals are getting the better of me.)

or did i hear word of microsoft claiming exclusive rights for MORE FF games!? i can't wait for FFDCCXXIV... and at this rate that'll be out sometime in 2009, lol.

well yes everybody is right
however there will be a final fantasy VII for PSP called Crisis Core which will explain the events BEFORE the original ff7 so you can get ready for that

You weren't at E3, were you? razz
Wii's waiting lines broke every E3 record. I'd call that major appeal. wink
Also, Squeenix is releasing four new Final Fantasy games on Nintendo systems in the next year, and if I remember correctly, one for the Xbox360 (though I have no idea what it is). Sony's Final Fantasy exclusivity days are over. 3nodding
About the numerals; didn't I hear someone from Square say they were going to stop numbering their games and give them sub-titles instead? Or is that just wishful thinking? confused

the mass interest in the wii was primarily because of them bein the ones to keep most hush hush about their console. everyone had seen ps3, aka bananapads, and we all knew about the 360, but the wii was an enigma, with new ideas and concepts. that doesn't neccesarily guarantee high sales figures to the massive populace of part time gamers who only play fifa, yet shell out £400 for a console, and will never experience the magic of ff!

i know about the 360 release, and it won't be just one, they're gonna get a few, and there are many plans to invest in the psp's capabilities.
