Dalamar. We all know him, the famous dark elf on the receiving end of Raistlin's famous fingerprints. After twenty-odd years, he still bore the bleeding marks of Raistlin's hand. burning_eyes wahmbulance I know little of Dalamar, except what I've read about him in the Legends trilogy, and in The Magic of Krynn. I know that he was exiled from his ancestral homeland, and that he likes Silvanesti wine, and that he's homesick, and that he had a brief liaison with Kitiara, but apart from that, I know next to nothing of this Elf. How did he stumble upon the Black Robes? Why did the Conclave choose Dalamar as their spy? If you can tell me more of Dalamar, I will be grateful.

He was offered the chance to be a spy/apprentice because the Conclave figured that, since he'd given up his homeland for magic, maybe he wouldn't mind putting himself in extreme danger for the chance to study under the most powerful mage in...ever.

I must add when he was asked he was both terrified and extatic! Wouldn't we all?

Blue Eli Any sane person would be.... Any SANE person wouldn't take the job. Dalamar's too ambitious for his own good - just like poor Raist COUGH COUGH Idiota.

A Soul So Black Blue Eli Any sane person would be.... Any SANE person wouldn't take the job. Dalamar's too ambitious for his own good - just like poor Raist COUGH COUGH Idiota. Okay, you can't be outrageously ambitious and sane at the same time, and since being outrageously ambitious gets you LOTS of power, he decided sane was a bit...boring. After all, 'sane' is just one letter away from 'safe.'

I'd take my ambition over your 'sanity' any day, honestly. Sanity is so...so relative.

Dalamar Nightson I'd take my ambition over your 'sanity' any day, honestly. Sanity is so...so relative. Sanity may be "relative" but at least it helps keep you alive. I'd much rather have a sane, boring life than end up where Raistlin did (no offence to Mr. Majere, of course).

Do you really want to know why Dalamar would take that chance?
For anybody who has ever felt the power of Magic, it is a simple concept.
Magic is everything...It is wife, it is lover, it is child. It is a part of you. Any mage in his/her right mind would jump at the chance to learn more. Why do you think we take the test in the first place? To weed out those unwilling to give their lives for the cause. Dalamar is simply willing to die for the magic.

Yeah... Its been very well established by now that Dalamar is NOT the most sane of the DL bunch.
However, I'll say this for him, being a black robed elf... he very much DOES understand the balance. And the price of Magic. Considering the worst thing that could have happened to him in the test had already happened to him long before the test when he was banished from the elven lands. He would rather have died in the magic than have been denied the magic like he had been before then.

Hey now...compared to Fizban, Tas, Shalafi, and Nuitari knows who else, you're calling me nuts?1. Fizban's senile-wizard thing was just an act to hide his identity as Dracos Paladin. 2. Tas can't help it. He's a kender. Reorx made him that way. 3. Your precious Shalafi was just as insane as you, and a good deal smarter. 4. Are there any other clerics of Mishakal on Gaia?

You say all this as if I do not know it already.
1.) Yes, the old wizard is senile, and yes, he is also the god Paladine. Many thanks; I don't think I could have figured that out myself.
2.) Species is no excuse. The kender are, as a species, insane. I suppose following your logic I can just say that 'I'm not nuts, Nuitari just made me that way...'?
3.) Your tone disgusts me. Now you're stooping to petty, sly insults. I could argue your point, but why bother? You've already proven yourself argumentative and a nuisance in the Guild, why further it?
4.) Goldmoon, Crysania, and Mishakal are all on Gaia, though the first two have not been past 5 posts, and Mishakal has not been seen since April.

But you can't say that any given SANE person would WELCOME banishment as well as you did (all for the magic), take on the "spy" position with your Shalafi, do ANYTHING with Kitiara... etc.
