I just had an interresting MSN conversation with a friend of mine (Actually, I quite dominated the conversation once I got started >.>;; ) and I figured I'd share it. Much game spoilers abound if you haven't made it to the third disc yet. I'm Daphne and he's "I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron." Note that when I talk about the irony of my life, I have been compared to Aerith a lot in the past, and I do cosplay her for Hallowe'en and other events (Yes, my boyfriend's name is actually Zack).

Daphne says:
You know something?
Daphne says:
A few years ago, Zack mentionned in passing something about joining the millitary.
Daphne says:
He didn't because I was all against even the thought of it
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
Which comes as no surprise.
Daphne says:
He's also mentionned on several occaisions travelling the world as a mercenary/asassin type alongside his friend.
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
It's overrated.
Daphne says:
I just got to thinking a few days ago, that that would be around the time that Zack left for Nibelheim
Daphne says:
Chalk up a point for the irony of my life.
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
Nibel what?
Daphne says:
FF7
Daphne says:
Seven years before the start of the game, Aerith's boyfriend Zack, the main character Cloud, and the soon-to-be-archvillain Sephiroth are sent on a mission to Nibelheim, to investigate some disturbances in the nearby Mako reactor.
Daphne says:
Sephy at this point is the top-ranking Soldier, the best of Shinra's puppets. He's constantly dark and brooding, but is generally a duty-oriented and good little soldier. He's angry because he doesn't know the first thing about his past except one word.
Daphne says:
That word is Jenova, supposedly his mother's name.
Daphne says:
Sephiroth sacrifices a night's sleep to read the reports in the basement of the Shinra mansion in town, all of Hojo's little biases about Jenova and the Cetra. The next morning Zack goes down to investigate.
Daphne says:
And Sephiroth speaks of betrayal, the Cetra, and his Mother.
Daphne says:
Zack follows the madman to the reactor, to see him fawning over a half-transformed cluster of virus cells attempting to take the form of a woman. He talks to it, calling it his mother and prattling on about finding the promised land, and taking vengeance on 'those damn, dirty apes.'
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
MANIACS!
Daphne says:
Zack tries to fight him, but Sephiroth owes his strength to the Jenova cells put inside of him before his birth. He dispatches Zack within a matter of moments.
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
THEY BLEW IT UP!
Daphne says:
Cloud comes in, lucky b*****d that he is, picks up Zack's sword, and skewers Sephiroth.
Daphne says:
He and the top Soldier tussle about for a bit, until Sephiroth jumps into the lifestream with Jenova's head and leaves Cloud to collapse with his sword still sticking out of him.
Daphne says:
Hojo and the Turks come for cleanup, Zack and Cloud, barely alive, are put into giant liquid filled tubes to be experimented on. Five years later, Zack breaks them out, and attempts to get himself and his messed up friend into Midgar.
Daphne says:
Zack is shot down before he can enter the city's walls, and Cloud is left to die.
Daphne says:
And that's the long version of what happens in Last Order.
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
Last Order?
Daphne says:
Anime movie Square made about the whole thing in Nibelheim
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
Aha.
Daphne says:
I could send it to you, it requires DivX player to view.
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
Nah. Thanks anyway though.
Daphne says:
razz
Daphne says:
You get to see Zack fight! It is the most hilarious thing on the planet!
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
Hilarious how?
Daphne says:
He closes his eyes and has the biggest, stupidest grin on his face imaginable.
Daphne says:
And he talks like I or my Zack would.
Daphne says:
"Hey geezer!"
Daphne says:
"I'm not just any soldier... I'm SOLDIER First Class."
Daphne says:
After which I can't help but add "... b***h."
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
Ah.
Daphne says:
"I'm gunna start a buisness that does everything!"
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
...fwa?
Daphne says:
Mercenary work
Daphne says:
That's why Cloud's doing what he's doing at the start of the game.
Daphne says:
He's a hired gu- Err, sword, for AVALANCHE.
Daphne says:
Think Greenpeace, with explosives.
I think it would be ironic if everything was made of iron. says:
The Anti-France.
Daphne says:
lol

Anyways, I thought I worded it pretty well, and maybe I'll tie this into my current SI spinoff somehow. Just felt like sharing.

I'm not gonna read it all, but I read up to this point, and noticed you made a mistake:

What I bolded is the mistake.
It was 5 years before the start of the game.
Compilation-wise, the furthest they get is 6 years before the game.

If you meant from the beginning AC, then it would be right.

Nuuuu~!

It's seven years. Throughout the game Cloud insists that it's five years, but Tifa keeps saying seven and Sephy later proves it's seven. Tifa even says at one point something along the lines of 'It was weird that he kept saying five years.' The game doesn't fill in the two years where Cloud's alone, but there is a time gap befween Zack being shot and Tifa finding him in Midgar.

Those two years are inbetween the five years and the game.
Zacks and Cloud is held up in the Shin-Ra Mansions for quite some while, and traveling from one continent to another takes awhile, even more when you try to keep a low profile.

But anyways. One of us will be proven wrong once Crisis Core is released. Or 'til someone else comes with better arguments for this.

There was maybe a day or two timegap between Zack being shot and Cloud ending up in Midgar.

Your timeframe is wrong and I didnt even notice it to begin with. It was a 5 year gap between the Nibelham incident and the start of the game. Zack and Cloud spent 4 years in the Shinra Mansion, then spent a year travelling across the world to get back to Midgar.

Tifa believed it was 7 years because she didnt know that Cloud was there during the Nibelham incident. She thought the last time he was in town was right before he left for SOLDIER, but he had returned truthfully during the Nibelham mission. The reason Tifa doesnt remember seeing Cloud was because he was in SOLDIER grunt gear, and she didnt remember him being there for her in the reactor due to bloodloss and a fading consciousness.

Any questions, take em up with me.
