Does anyone else's Church do a VBS each year? We have ours for the week of July 3-7. (aka. next week) We've been decorating the church all week so far and it looks very cool. Our church uses the Group VBS. This year's theme is Fiesta so we've decorated the church to look like mexico with coyotes and cactuses everywhere.
I'll post up some pictures of this year's VBS when it's over. It's amazing how many unchristian kids we get each year, there's usually 200 kids total and then about half of that is children from unchristian homes. I've been a crew leader for a while now and it's so fun.

If your church does a VBS, you can talk about it here. I would love to hear of other churches doing the same VBS as us, it's a good program that touches kids lives very uniquely. Here's the main website if you want to see it: http://www.groupvbs.com/

I only went to Hillsong Conference and a few fellowship with a few friends during my break but not a bible study.

My church had VBS Thursday, Friday evening and Saturday morning this year. I helped with some of the stuff the two nights.

I still think VBS is a weird name. I want to know whoes idea was it to put vaction and school in the same title?

I think it's vacation because it's during the summer and kids get to spend some time away from their parents. And the Bible school thing is because it teaches kids about the bible and Jesus and all that.
(I do see what you mean though. We shouldn't have anything to do with school on vacation. Sadly for me, I still am. They threw a ton of work at me this year in grade 11, and now I'm way behind and even though it's summer, I have school work. I got a break from it during VBS week though. blaugh )

Anyway, VBS is so fun. As soon as I wasn't old enough to go as a kid, I went straight to helping a leader and then to a full leader myself. (that way you still get to go around to all the stations.) This year, since it was fiesta, I made these really cool friendship bracelets to wear modelled after the colours of the Bible buddies and mexican blankets. They're so colourful! I made small versions for everyone in my crew too.

The idea of school during the summer is not something most kids want.

What I hated about it the most when I went was use too you had to stand outside in the sun waiting in line with your class. Then you had to go i and do the same repetive thing over, say the thre pledges and sing the same songs. The class leasson were boaring most of the time. Also, it seem like everything was in a rush and didn't have much time for anything.

I did enjoy the supper, arts, and play time.

We also had that fiesta theme this year. Which is another thing I did not like. Most churches usally do the same theme.

You don't like the fiesta thing? You do do the group vbs right? I think they're program is great. Crafts are a little complicated and messy if they use glue, but I love Chadder's theatre, bible adventures (depending on who's doing the acting, we had a great person this year), and the games. Our youth paster is the leader now, he was Tango Todd this year. I love the songs for vbs, I know they're for little kids, but some of them are good, mainly the slower ones that you don't have to jump up and down to. The actions can be quite a work out. sweatdrop

We done it in the past. Years ago we did one about the amazon, sadly some of the play was cornie. We haven't done the play of the VBS for a while, least I think. The past three I usally been working. Only reason I went to this one was becuase they had a video to show and I'm the one who runs video booth.

Now the last few plays and christmas plays we done, has been written by one of our memebers. I also remember an old play we did on the book of Ruth, we turn it a type of comedy. Some of us played duel roles. I was one of the guys that died and entered in later as a towns folk wearing a purple wig.

Yeah, our church does the whole VBS thing full out each year. We get around 200 kids each time, most of which are from non-churched homes. We were the only church in town that does one that big, most of the churches only do part of it, or only for a few kids in their chruch or whatever. The other church that does it didn't do it this time. Usually they borrow some of our decorations.

I've talked with my pastor about something differen I'm looking foward to. Having a daycare like service for children, young to teens. Have it cost sheaply so we can get the kids in and the only requirement is that we can share Jesus with them. I want to teach one of the classes. I also would like to see it all year. Give kids something to do in the summer as well. There will be other things as well but I think it will be better then hold a week or less of VBS. Of course I would want it to be open form least 7 am to 9 pm and the we will provide hot and health meals for all of them. Might add a couple of bathrooms and washer and dry so if any get needs a bath and clean cloaths, we can do it. You'll be surprise how many children go with out a meal, bath or clean cloathes at home.

Thats awesome! Cool idea, I'm glad you can help out there.
Our church, well, the youth group, does something called the underground on thursday nights throughout the whole year. But it's only for teens, mainly ones off the street to come and hang out and not get into trouble for lack of something to do while the leaders minister to them slowly at the same time.
