It's because hes way too arrogant and underestimates his enemys constantly. He is vastly supiorer to them in straight on skill and strengh but he let's his gaurd down a lot just so he can gloat.

well actauly in the final fight (the showdown between seph and cloud) if you stand a bout long enought sephroth will attack you and if you have less that 8500 odd HP he will kill you, so there is a chance for him to win (also some times he can attack before your limit guage is filled) but then again you probubly only get the game over screen after this and not some fancy altrnate ending......

As far as I know he cant kill you during that fight, my characters had 9999 HP but it still dropped to like 6500 when that fight came up ( because of it dequiping all your materia and what not ) If Sephiroth attacks it always does lower then your max health, then you instantly counter attack anyway for a instant win.
If you want Sephiroth to win just go up to the first Seph fight and not do anything, " Bad End ".
Or if you just wanna see Sephiroth doing the thing he does best then watch Last Order.

For me sephiroth should not loose to anyone, I don't care if he is the bad guy and must be destroyed! HE is SEPHIROTH and HE >MUST< not loose to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!! twisted

I think that its because of the way he goes about things. He is the embodiment of evil, its incarnation if you will. Cloud is the game's ultimate child of light, his life twisted by Sephiroth until he has no choice but to kill him. The way things play out in the middle only affirms this and makes it easier for Sephiroth to be killed. He underestimates his oppenents based on his previous encounter with them years ago. That said, he cannot win under any circumstance because he is a fool(albeit a powerful one).
