The Roc (not The Rock) was an enoromous bird of legend. This bird was sooo large it could pick up an elephant in its claws! One of the tales about Sinbad the sailor (from The Arabian Nights) told of him being stranded in a roc's nest on top of a mountain. To escape he used his turban to tie himself to the roc's leg and then dropped off when the bird passed over another island, thus making himself a candidate for the Roc and Roll Hall of fame. blaugh
