What is Alt- Country.
Alterative country (or alt-Country, No depression, americana) is a hybrid of folk, Roots Rock and country. Most alt country singers stray away from the traditional country sound and chose to do more rocking sounds but keep to the Country roots.
Gram Parsons has to be said to be the founder of the Alt-Country sound with Uncle Tupelo bringing it back in the early 80’s and 90’s.
Today’s alt-Country sound can very and stretch many different genres. Texas band The old 97’s (early CD’s) and Chicago band Two Cow Garage has the Punk sound dominating, Other bands such as The Jayhawks and Whiskytown have stuck to the Folk roots rock side.
