So I heard something the other day that at first made me a little angry. My uncle said that the way he saw it, all of Pink Floyd's influence for their music (after Syd left) came from Syd's plunge into LSD and ultimately his "Craziness." At first I was very sceptical, but when I listened to a lot of their lyrics with this idea on mind - it made somewhat sense. It's already well known that WYWH was entirely dedicated to Syd Barrett, but isn't The Wall just one big Syd Barrett story? I fully realize that parts of Roger Waters life was incorporated into the story of The Wall, i.e. Pink's father dying in the war, going to the school, etc. But looking at the second half of the characters life almost screams Syd Barrett. "and the worms at into his brain." "Pink isn't well." the fact that he shaved his eyebrows. But still I thought, no, Animals and Dark Side of the Moon have nothing to do with Syd. And while that's true in one sense, examining some of the lyrics on those two albums makes it hard to think that no inspiration came from Syd. While I think it's unfair to say that the only reason Floyd stuck around for as long as they did thanks to Syd's plunge into maddness, (which is my Uncle's philosophy) really thinking about it makes it just as hard to say that no part of him is relevant in all of their albums. What do you guys think?

I think his leaving had a great impact on them all. It was a great loss. But, I do know the only scene in "The Wall" that is about Syd is when Pink shaves his head. "The Wall" was about how much damage any person can do to the world if they have power over people.
I will, however, say that Syd's memory has influenced some part in every album they've made.

When something affects your life that much you're bound to write about it.. that doesnt mean they wouldn't have found anything else to write about if it hadnt happened
