Well, I'm suprised this has taken so long to come up.
Tanis, the protagonist in the Chronicles Trilogy, what are your thoughts on him?

Overly emotional, and far too prone to self-doubt, despite the fact that self-doubt was practically taught to him in his cradle. He's strong enough in most other areas, mentally and physically, but that one attribute makes him seem weaker. He's a good leader, though, because he knows how to make snap decisions, when to split up, and has a generally good head on his shoulders. Unless he had a weak chin, however, he shouldn't have grown that damned beard.... xd

That he would.
When I first started reading DL, Tanis was my favourite character.. I dunno. It was a few years ago and I was still into the whole typical, stereotype of the hero.. plus he was part elf. :XP: So I didn't find anything wrong with him until most of the way through the Chronicles trilogy... he became too indecisive and a pansy! gonk

Honestly I liked how he was written, stereotypical hero, but he had flaws. The character's flaws in Dragonlance is what make them likeable. Nobody wants a hero who is perfect...hell Superman isn't perfect.

But that makes me think of him playing Christian in Moulin Rouge, which makes me think of Tanis singing and dating a whore, which makes me thing of Laurana shooting him. 4laugh

Blue Eli Ewan would make a wonderful Tanis, yes.
But that makes me think of him playing Christian in Moulin Rouge, which makes me think of Tanis singing and dating a whore, which makes me thing of Laurana shooting him. 4laugh Well...he did date Kitiara...she's a bit of a whore...

To tell the truth, when I first started reding the books, I fell in love with tanis and didn't want to read the part of "Winter Twighlit" that didn't have him in it. sweatdrop Pathetic, I know.

Tanis is my favorite character, followed closely by Raistlin and Tasslehoff.
I am very much like Tanis. I identify with him on many levels.

I think Tanis was ment to be a "reincarnation" type thing For Kith Kanan. And that was kinda supported by Kith giving Tanis the Wyrmslayer in Pax Tharkas.
If you read Tanis' involvement in the War of the Lance, then go read the Elven Nation's Trillogy you'll understand a bit more.
Main difference was that Tanis was half-elven and didn't quite have the craptastic luck that Kith did. Though he did come close.
He eventually got over his self doubt, for the most part... but that wasn't until the Legend's Trillogy... in the third book. And we really didn't see much of it.
I think his character was a bit two dimentional when compared to most of the other characters in the series. And that makes me sad.

Raistlin of Krynn Oh trust me...there's still plenty of self doubt in "Dragons of Summer Flame". lol... true... but then he also has to deal with a whole new can of poo to worry with so its more understandable than about half his angst/self-doubt towards teh end of Chronicles. You'd think after roughly 9 months of fighting dragons and highlords and stuff he'd be used to it enough he could tell off a few Solamnic nights!

Tanis needs to lighten up! He was more fun when he was young (Harvests, Dragonlance Tales volume 3), but as he neared 100, he became a limp old sausage. If you ask me, his life was one fiasco after another.
