a sever and rapid series of mood swings. A person with Bipolarity can go from extreme uphoria to total depression in less time than it takes to blink. Sometimes they are uncontrolable. I could go on....

It's extreme... and I mean HARDCORE extreme moodswings. For me, for example, one day I'll be completely happy and I'll start laughing uncontrollably (because something was funny) and suddenly I start crying.

Well, lets see...there are two types of Bipolar Bi polar type I is characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes (symptoms of both a mania and a depression occurring nearly every day for at least 1 week) and one or more major depressive episodes. Bipolar I disorder is the most severe form of the illness marked by extreme manic episodes. Bipolar II disorder is characterized by one or more depressive episodes accompanied by at least one hypomanic episode. Hypomanic episodes have symptoms similar to manic episodes but are less severe, but must be clearly different from a person's non depressed mood. For some, hypomanic episdoes are not severe enough to cause notable problems in social activities or work. However, for others they can be troublesome. Bipolar II disorder may be misdiagnosed as depression if you and your dcotor don't notice the signs of hypomania. In a recent DBSA survey, nearly seven out of ten people with bipolar disorder had been misdiagnosed at least once. Sixty percent of those people had been diagnosed with depression. http://www.dbsalliance.org/info/bipolar.html

(sigh) i just don't get how a doctor can sit you down and after asking you like 4 questions, can diagnose you with some ******** up mentel disorder... i mean, where has all of this left my clinical depression? i just don't get it... i don't get anything anymore. i could die tomarrow, so why does any shitty a** diagnosis even matter? i just want to live my life with a liver...

I feel your pain. I should have been diagnosed with this many years ago. My mood swings have gotten soooo bad. Sooo bad. My husband gets soo frustrated with it. I get frustrated with it. My psychiatrist has my mental records from all the past years I've had therapy and was able to give me the RIGHT diagnosis. Right now I'm on 500 mgs of Depakote, on my way up to 750 mgs come Sunday. And in 2 weeks I'll be up to 1500 mgs of it. Not to mention the .25 mgs of Xanax (pretty weak, but does the job) and the 10 mgs of Zyrtec (for my allergies) a day I have to take. I would be taking Doxepin too, but my psychiatrist took me off of it because it was pointless to take. sweatdrop I just want it to stop. o.<

He's supportive. I mean, you almost have to be. This is sometimes the way it has to be when you look at how things are with you aren't medicated. Sure, you have times when you're really happy and feeling good or 'normal' but when you compare that to all the times when you're manic and the times when you're depressed, being stable or loopy until you adjust to the meds greatly outweighs everything else. You'll adapt to them and shouldn't feel 'tipsy' anymore. It just sucks at first. Hell, I can't even drive my car in the morning...or at night because I'm still trying to get used to the meds. When I was on celexa, before an allergic reaction kept me from taking them anymore, my husband and I were the best we'd ever been. It was like, the miracle drug. It calmed my depressive side and relieved me of my anxieties, but didn't do s**t for mania. (Something at the time I didn't know I had) Has your boyfriend see you at your worst? I mean, when you're sitting in the corner crying, or on the floor somewhere, under a table wishing you were dead? And for no aparent reason? Has he seen you go from being super happy and jumping around, all energetic to a sudden depressed spell? That's torture. It may be blasphemy to the soul- as he puts it, but he doesn't have to live in your head everyday. You do what you can to be content with yourself.
