As Christians what do you think of Islam, its theology and its followers?
PostPosted: Sat Jul 08, 2006 8:22 pm

we were travelling in another country and lost our wallet out of our car as we drove, it had everything in it.

two muslim brothers running a nearby convenience stoar stopped what they were doing, hung up a 'closed" sign, and hunted through the weeds and ditches for over a mile until it was found.

they would take no payment in return, but fell on their knees and bowed, praising Allah for his goodness.

so whatever the media say, I have seen this faith at work and I admire it.

I'm no expert, but from everything I've heard and read (reliable sources--not Fox news) it seems to be a benevolent faith with positive ideals, which like any faith sports people who are a tribute to it and people who do it a disservice to claim any association.

See I thought this as well before I dipped my head into Islamic thought and law.

It is better for a leader to make a mistake in forgiving than to make a mistake in punishing.
'...what is the best type of Jihad [struggle].' He answered: 'Speaking truth before a tyrannical ruler.
Anyone who believes in God and the Last Day (of Judgment) should not harm his neighbor.
(Each one) of you should save himself from the fire by giving even half of a date (in charity).
Do not turn away a poor man...even if all you can give is half a date. If you love the poor and bring them near you...God will bring you near Him on the Day of Resurrection.
Not one of you is a believer until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself."
--These from a list of hidiths, like teachings of the prophet.

And for that matter, I've seen a lot of "Christian thought and law" that makes me shudder.

But Islam as a whole? Overall, feels a bit too conservative to me. But it seems to me that a liberal Muslim comes closer to fulfilling God's will than a conservative Christian.

Sounds awesome to me too. A helpful book that helps get rid of these misconceptions is The Kite Runner by Khaled Husseini. This book helped me change my views towards the Middle Eastern culture and Islam as opposed to what the media says.

So you made this topic to decry Islam and push your agenda about it then, not to gather thoughts and opinions? Because I smell a leading question.

So do I, Tickle Tape.

Mr. Bono Vox, please either start an actual discussion. All opinions are welcome here as long as they are backed up and presented civilly. Please, back up your arguments.

I know that this was posted a while ago, but on the off chance that you are still here, could this book be found in a public library?

I assume it could so you would have to ask for it.

Speaking of Islam in a Christian guild in the religious catholic class they gave us a "What Catholics should know about Islam" and I am happy they are taking the time to teach about the Islamic faith in the class as to have an open mind. Another article was about Pope Benedict quoting some Byzantine emperor in which he critized Islam and such.

I am sincerely trying my best effort to be open minded and have an open heart to this faith and its followers and I just one day dont want to explode in class.

I actually rather like Islam. I first think that Muslims are much more real about their faith than 90% of the Christians that I've ever seen. Many Christians stick their religion in their backpack and carry it with them. Muslims have the proverbial big yellow t-shirt. They take their faith very seriously.

I put Islam on the same level that I place Judaism. I don't believe that it's absolute truth, but I agree with most of what it has to say, and I have the utmost respect for its followers. Those who go out and commit violence against others are not true Muslims. Having considered conversion to this religion once, I have a copy of the Qur'an in my room. I think that the Qur'an is for the most part... true. They see Jesus as a prophet (just as the Jewish people do), although not the Messiah. It's interesting that all three religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) all worship the same Lord. We hold many of the same ideals and beliefs. I

also believe that Islam is very difficult to follow. It isn't just something you believe, it's a complete lifestyle. You do everything by the Qur'an, and there are many rules that govern your conduct. I won't come in and defame Muslims, because they are more serious about their faith than most Christians will ever be.
