Maid & Butler Appreciation Week

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Next week is "Maid & Butler Appreciation Week." The city council is proud to announce that the children of Greinell have been invited to Carneton Palace to spend a day living the life of a noble caretaker.

At Carneton, the young guests will be assigned tasks to do. At the end of the day, they will help cook a grand feast for the Royal Family and their staff.

This is a great chance to see the royal palace up close and is a great life experience. Transportation and other fees are covered. Anyone who signs up will need to be at the train station on Monday with their luggage (a few outfits and neccessities-- the train ride will take half a day).

Seara is rewarding extra credit to the students who go. They will spend a day at Carneton Palace on tuesday, then they can board home on wednesday or choose to sight see on their own(only if they get their parents/guardian permission signatures though) for the rest of the week and return by train by sunday.

Being the capital of Raime, Arion is a beautiful city surrounded by the ocean, filled with beautiful architectural works, many monuments, and historical sights to see. The marketplace is a particularly popular tourist spot, filled with lively vendors selling exquisite wares from all over the world.

Have fun! And remember to thoroughly thank your household staff next week.

-The Council

Lincoln looked at the letter again, turning it over and over to stare at the insignia regally printed on the back. It wasn't so much the signature itself, but the added note from his parents. He'd read it only one. There was no point in reading over something that's been memorized.

It was warm out today. Rumpled, half-naked, still caught in the drowsy Limbo between sleepiness and his morning tea. The cursed, canine side of him wiggled with contenment at the warm rays coming through his dorm window and onto his bare skin. This is exactly why he'd requested an outside room...

Lincoln let out a small noise of contentment. But, resist as he might, the morning had come... and there was quite a lot to do. On the other bed in the room, Lan slept, convoluted and still mildly hung over. It was insane how cute he could be even when he was dreaming of pepper spray in your underwear drawer. He wiggled the towel from his shoulders and searched wordlessly for a shirt.

"@$#&*)@ early risers..."

Lincoln sighed. "G'morning, Lan." Lan curled up under his sheets.

"Why d'you have to be such an overachiever alla' time? Cramps my style."

"What, of waking up at four in the afternoon?" Lincoln mused. He threw his sleeping pants into the laundry and picked up the slacks he'd lain out the night before. There was no reason to be messy, rooming with Lan or not. Besides, it was important that he be clean-cut and proper this morning.

"What are you, my mother?"

"God forbid."

"SLEEEEEP..."

"S'not MY fault you woke up," Lincoln argued. "You slept right fine through my shower and making tea. Don't try to tell me it's because I picked up my clothes too loud."

"Oh ha ha ha shutup. Have'n you ever hearrd you get offa squeaky bed when you gotta a hangover? I swear, Linc. Makes me wanna kill you. Wild BEARS could sit up quieter'n you do!"

Lincoln flapped his bed covers, making Lan wince. So neat and clean, he thought through the leftover alcohol. He always had to be so damn clean. "Now would this be the resident half-elf Monstrare bear we're talking about, or an honest-to-goodness non-cursyfied bear?"

Lan made a muffled noise into his sheets. "Which one's quieter?"

"S'a toss-up, really."

"My bet's on the bear."

"Which one?"

"THE BEAR ONE!" Lan shot out an arm aggravatedly, making the sheets fall onto his skull.

The resulting head trauma from the combination crushing cotton anvil and his own screaming offered a few minutes of silence to the other boy. Lincoln continued dressing, much too used to being the logic for the two to even need an "I-told-you-so" look. "Reason number twelve why there's a drinking age."

"Shrdup. Y'jack`rsff."

"Quite astute, will keep that advice in mind." Lincoln zipped up his vest. He turned to the mirror. "Ever decide if you were actually going to join me on the trip?" Lan rolled away from his friend.

"Umm, between the opportunistic all-nighter when we arrived n' you nannying me over my senselessness that'd be a no. 'Sides. Me, work? On a hangover? Nahh, say I'd prolly won't. Won't get another chance to roam like this for awhile. You're a jerk for leavin' me though."

"That was no opportunity," Lincoln said matter-of-factly. "All for fun n' games, but a preteen gettin' drunk is just a headache. Pun intended." He ignored the glaring eyes hiding beneath the covers with some degree of smugness. "This trip, this a good opportunity, Lan. You'll survive without me. Not that I really trust you alone ever but I can't be your mummy all the time. I'll keep a watch out for you, though."

"Aww, thanks mum. Will you pack me a lunch with a lil' note innit thatchoo love me, too?" Lincoln smirked at his friend's sugary-sweet tone. You could always tell how bad a mood someone was in by the amount of sarcasm they used.

"Maybe next time, Junior. If'n you're a good lil' boy. And I'll pack cookies, too."

"Aw, gee, mom! You're the BEST. Now get out, ya brat, I need some sleep."

"Ahhh I never liked you anyways. You big baby. " Lincoln nabbed his suitcase. He turned at the door, pausing to grin widely at Lan. "SWEET DREAMS, LAN!"

The door slammed shut just a second before a flying shoe put a dent in it.

“Lan…”
”Mmrf.”
”La~aaaan…”
”mmflrf.”
“Ten-HUT!”

“WAUGH!”
Lincoln yanked the covers off of his roommate’s bed, sending Lan spinning onto the floor. He looked at Lincoln, half-asleep and more than unprepared to get up. He stared coldly into the other’s eye. “I should kill you, one of these days,” he announced gravely. Lincoln just grinned.

“I love you too, honey.” Lincoln picked up his coat from the doorknob. “Just wanted to tell you that you’d slept through your alarm. Again. So I had to get you up. Again. And your free period’s at the END of the day and no y’can’t take first period off every time. AGAIN. Silly butt.”

Lan eyed him drowsily. ”Wait, what did you call me?”

“Good! Just making sure you were awake. You always fall asleep when I go blah blah blah nag…hey, hey! I wasn’t even nagging then!” Lincoln kicked the snoozing Lan. He whined and batted the foot away.

“Go pick on someone your own brain-size, grandma!” Lan tossed a pillow at him. “I’d get up if it weren’t so goddamn early everyday!” Lincoln retaliated with the same pillow.

“Well if ya weren’t such a lazy a** maybe you’d get some work done, ya hear?!”

Several downy pillows and a feather-shower later, both were flopped on the floor. In the warmth of the morning, even Lincoln was falling back asleep… that is, until Lincoln thought to look at the clock. “Hoshit.” He was out in a flash. Lan barely noticed much beyond the pleasant knowledge that he would, again, be sleeping through first period this morning.

((for my post count this and next week))

Lincoln managed to pull into class a full minute before the bell rang. On time, as always! He nodded politely to the teacher, scurrying past the girl’s locker room (well, taking a brief peep inside on the way, there weren’t many this class as it was) to the boy’s. A few nods to each, and it was on with the day. Sometimes he wondered why he didn’t just wear his martial arts clothes to school sometimes. Probably because he just looked so snazzy in regular clothes.

Then again, he might forget his regular clothes once and be stuck wearing this get-up for the rest of the day. How filthy would that get?! The instructor’s whistle blew. Off to the line-up.
“Right! Good morning, class.”

”Good mornin’...”

It seemed Lan wasn’t the only one who’d skipped today… Lincoln scanned the group. Six people were missing. Hmm. Then again, it was a Monday- and nobody would ever let things go easy on a Monday. The instructor- a tall, burlesque woman with a slight hearing problem- was just discovering this same problem. She looked none too pleased about it. “Where’s all the others, then?”

Someone piped up, “Perhaps they’ve got `flu.”

The instructor was nonplussed. “Huh! Flu, eh? They should eat more fresh fruit. Right!” She brought forwards the bag of weapons for this week, placing it in front of the students. “Today, we’ll be carrying on from where we got last week when I was showing you how to defend yourselves...”

‘...against anyone who attacks you with armed with a piece of fresh fruit,’ Lincoln couldn’t help but quote mentally. This was sounding incredibly similar to a certain skit he’d heard before. What a silly class! Like we hadn’t covered everything well enough last time? He watched the first weapon brought out- which was, in fact, nothing. It was simply her fist.

“We will be learning self-defense,” she said, “against the unarmed.” The swordfighting lovers among the class all groaned. Lincoln grinned. “What's wrong with fruit? You think you know it all, eh?”

”Can’t we do somethin’ else?” a younger brat piped up. “Like… someone who attacks you with a pointed stick?” Seems that he wasn’t the only one familiar with the comedy sketch.

“A pointed stick?” Lincoln couldn’t tell whether her tone was just surprised or incredulous. Her expression changed. “We want to learn how to defend ourselves against pointed sticks, do we? Think you know everything someone could throw at you with fists already? There’s a lot more deadly things than a pointed stick, like your fists...”

”What, a banana?”

The teacher was at a loss for a response. “W-well… possibly!”

“`Getting all high and mighty, eh? Fresh fruit not good enough for us, eh?`” Lincoln muttered to the girl next to him. She giggled. “`Well when we're walking home tonight and some great homicidal maniac comes after you with a bunch of loganberries, don't come crying to me!`”

”LINCOlN!” He stood up straight.

“Yes’m?”

”Who was mocking me over there, you?”

”No ma’m,” he said with a grin, “I’m a ‘orrible impressionist. Just asking what we ARE learning to fight against today.”

“Oh. Well. Just ask me from now on, it’s easier. It’s still unarmed combat—“

”Bo-ring!” She whipped around to find the new target. Ah, you had to love the people who didn’t shut up. They kept your head out of the guillotine. The instructor was looking exasperated.

“Look, I'm only doing me job. I have to show you how to defend yourselves against fresh fruit—I mean unarmed combat!” The room burst into laughter.

“But not pointed sticks.”

”THAT’S ENOUGH ABOUT POINTED STICKS!”

”Ooh, tone, tone,” another student piped up. “What, you some kinda tree-hater, now? How rude! They never did naught to you.”

“We come to learn and instead all we get’s propaganda! Lookit this mess of a class. No wonder half us aren’t here- they’re sick of this racist treatment.”

She was completely lost now. ”Racist?”

”Against TREES! TREES ARE PEOPLE TOO! TREES ARE PEOPLE TOO!” The whole room, more for the chaos than the meaning, began chanting as well.

At this point, she’d had it. Dropping the bag entirely, she stumbled out of the gymnasium to the principal’s office (to turn in her resignation, to be sure), with a chorus of chanting makes it right! Chanting makes it right! following her through the entire school.

Poor woman. It was only her first day. She just happened to start on a Monday. Lincoln smiled and, a new girl’s phone number in hand, sauntered back into the locker room to enjoy his hour-long study hall.
