Well...I'm hitting the sewing machine hardcore in preperation for Dagorhir's Ragnorok. So far I'm working on a couple pants for me, some girl-shirts I can fight in, a few sinchers, and some garb for other people.

Just out of curiosity, who all makes their own garb? Do you use patterns, or do you design your own. I tend to modify patterns I have. Is anyone interested in posting pictures of garb they've made in the past.

I tend to go for a cloth-look seeing how my character isn't too much of a leather person. Is there anyone who makes leather garb? Is it too much different then making cloth garb?

I happen to make a lot of my own garb as well as garb for others. I've been super swamped with all kinds of orders for Ragnarok and haven't had much of a chance to really work on anything for myself. I've got mountains of things to make still. I'm working on some bodices for a couple of friends as well as pants and tunics to fight in and *hopefully* a belly dancing skirt and top for myself (that is if I get all of my other projects for others finished).

I tend to buy patterns that are the general shape and size I want and alter them accordingly and if I simply can't find what I'm looking for I design my own. I've made all kinds of outfits for all kinds of characters; faries, orcs, goblins, humans, hobbits, pirates, vampires, everything.

I use mostly cloth but have used leather as well. Depending on the type and thickness of the leather it can be very similar or very different from sewing with cloth. The leather I used was a type of upholstery leather so it was pretty soft and thin. It wasn't all that different from sewing with cloth, I just had to use special leather sewing machine needles.

Do they sell the leather working needles at any old sewing store, or do you have to order them online?

I finished what I think will be my sin-night outfit a night ago. I'm currently working on my boyfriend's garb: A nice dublet and a tunic-shirt. He'll look so handsome! ^_^

I'm pretty sure you can find leather sewing needles at a most sewing shops. I got lucky and just found mine laying around the house. I'm sure you could also find them online.

I have part of my sin night outfit completed. My friend made me a chainmaille top and I'm still trying to figure out the rest of it. I have plans for a new dress for Mardi Gras as well. Something belly dancer-esque I think.

I make my own stuff, made my dress garb, and i'm going to work on making a purple hakama for rag. I've also made some garb for my girlfriend.

I make some patterns, combine some patterns to make new ones, and do some stuff my self.

i've also modified garb i bought.

Wow, It's really rare to find a male that sews! Thats really cool. All the girls in Gestiguiste do the VAST majority of the sewing. (we have sewing parties once a week)
Both of you, where did you learn how to sew?

Awesome! I taught myself. I sat down with a piece of fabric and a sewing machine and kinda tried stuff till it worked. ^_^

I learned myself, still can't hand sew but i'm hoping to get my girlfriend to teach me this summer.

i started simple with weapons covers and what not, then worked my way up from there, it was easier to be able to do it on my schedule when i wanted it, than to have to wait on someone else.

Hand sexing isn't that much fun. I used to cross stitch. It's tedious and annoying. I'd rather spend that time making chainmail or on the sewing machine.
