I know I'm not the only one who uses pot to self medicate, so I'm interested in hearing what you use it for.

Personally, I use it for insomnia, because it causes less problems for me than any legal sleep aid, perscription or OTC. I had problems with addiction to sleeping pills at the age of 11 (kinda scary sounding, actually), and pot is the one sleep aid which I haven't had to limit my intake after looking at my consumption.

I use pot to control ultradian rapid cycling associated with bipolar disorder, where severe mood swings occur several times a day or even several times an hour. I also use it to bring myself out of acute depressive states when they occur.

I also suffer from insomnia.. It doesn't work particularly well as a sleep aid for me 100% of the time.. If I'm already feeling a little bit tired, smoking a bit will put me to sleep. If I'm totally awake and active, it won't help.. Usually in that case if I take half of a sedative, which isn't enough to affect me normally, and then smoke some, I can sleep then.

It also helps with gastrointestinal symptoms caused by IBS. The details of that aren't anything anybody wants to hear. x_X Also, smoking up stimulates my appetite - one of the meds I'm on for my bipolar, Topamax, pretty much completely kills the appetite altogether. If I don't smoke pot, I need a schedule to remember to eat.

I smoke weed to help with the ADD and to relax without the alcohol. I used to be able to sleep well after smoking but have noticed recently that I get hyper. I love weed and know that it helps calm me when needed.

I do not have a diagnosed condition, but I do use it for health sometimes. Getting suicidal moods and breif lapses of near insanity can be quickly remedied by ingesting a bit of pot. But other than those paticular moments it's purely for fun.

I've never had the opportunity to smoke while in a seriously depressed state, but I've had pot that made me so happy and content...I don't know if I'd want to be high on that particular stuff all the time, though, since it also really messed with my attention span... There are other drugs that make me just as happy and more energetic and focused, but they're a lot more dangerous than pot... sad

I use pot to self medicate for my anxiety disorder. I like the way it works better than benzodiazepenes like Valium and Klonopin, also I feel it's less harmful to my health then benzos even though I have a prescription for benzo's and can't get a legal prescription for marijuana in my state.

If I am having an anxiety attack and I take one or two hits of bud, I become a normally functioning person and go back to my normail life. If I take more than that then I get "high" and start laughing and giggling and forgetting stuff. So I only take more than one or two hits when I feel that I deserve a fun time after a bad panic attack and when my husband agrees to be the point person parent for my daughter who is mentally there. ('course when I'm having a panic attack I'm even less there)

Also I take it for nausea and stomach aches. I believe these are also symptoms of my anxiety disorder.
