"My apologies, Milady. I've forgotten myself. I am know as Drallen."
Drallen looked around the house, awed by something so large. His last mistress had traveled far too often to have a home, his mother's was fairly small and of course he had been in the cages at the market, but this was huge compared to what he was used to.
"Milady, might I ask where I am to sleep?"

"Drallen, huh? It suits you. The two rooms on the first floor belong to my parents because they can't handle going up and down the steps, so you'll be sleeping in the room upstairs and to the left -- right across the hall from me. It's my sister's old room, but she's taken all her stuff with her, so everything in there is new."
Nori scrunched her nose as she remembered something.
"Um, the walls are painted canary yellow, though. I hope you don't mind too much."
She unhooked the leash from his collar and set in on a table in the foyer.
"You can go poke around for awhile more if you want, I'm going to go tidy up down here before I come upstairs."

"Thank you, Milady." Drallen said.
He walked upstairs and looked around his new room. It was plain but compared to the places he was used to sleeping it looked like a bower fit for a king. Drallen put the few things he had in a drawer in the dresser, and went to look around a bit more. None of the windows was sealed shut, there were no bars or chains or restraint devices of any kind whatsoever on this floor. Impressed, Drallen went downstairs to find his new mistress.
"Is there any cleaning or other such household chores that need to be performed, Milady?"

Nori turned away from the coffee table in the den momentarily to answer Drallen's question.
"Hmm, I think I did most of the major stuff, but I guess you could take the dishes out the drain and put them in the cabinets. I've always hated standing on a stool to put them up."
She looked him over.
"Say, tomorrow I'll buy you some pyjamas and other clothes."
She smiled. It was nice to have a guy around the house.

"As you wish, Mistress Nori." Drallen said with a small smile.
He finished the dishes fairly easily and when he was done he turned back to his mistress.
"Is there anything else I can help you with, Milady?"

"No, that's it."
Finished in the den, she stood up and dusted herself off.
"Are you sleepy? Do you want me to tuck you in now, or do you want some hot milk or something?"
xp I'm the one acting like a slave. I really don't know what to do with a slave, do I? I guess for now, I'll just have to treat him kind of like a pet...
She yawned and moved her hair out her face.

Drallen looked thoughtfull for a moment.
"No, Milady. I do have a small request though. Would it be alright if I roamed a bit at night, while you don't need me? I'd like to enjoy not being in a cage, but only if it doesn't interfere with your wishes for me."

"Huh? Oh, yeah sure. I don't mind at all. It is your first night here, in a place you've never been before. It would be silly to expect you to adjust over night. Take however much time you need."
She moved past him and put her hand on the stair railing.
"I'm going up to take a shower before I go to bed, give a shout if you need anything."
She started to go up the stairs, then paused a moment.
"But stay out the garage. The snakes get in this time of year, so no one goes in there. I don't want you to get hurt."
With that, she ran up the stairs.

Drallen looked at Nori as she ran up the stairs, amazed. She was treating him like a friend or a brother. Not that he was complaining. He needed to do something nice for her. He pulled out a couple of knives and walked into the garage. A few minutes and many muffled curses later, he emerger with his daggers put away again and a big sack over his back. He brough the sack over to the trash can and tossed all the snakes into the can. With that he wandered outside and fell asleep in the garden until sunrise.

Nori rolled over and opened her eyes; immediately she wished she hadn't. Facing the window, her eyes were assaulted by the morning light and she shut them quickly. Colorful circles swirled in her closed eyes. Turning away from the window, she opened them again, only to be staring at the clock.
"Hmm, 9 am."
She rubbed her eyes.
"9 AM! Omygosh, I overslept! Breakfast I have to make breakfast for--"
She jolts out the bed and to the other side of the hall, only to find that Drallen was not there.
Oh no, he ran away...Ugh, I should've put some food out before I went to bed. Stupid!
With sad eyes, she sulked all the way down stairs and entered the kitchen. Nori opened the refridgerator door, then let it swing closed.
There goes my appetite.
Taking a seat at the kitchen table, Nori stares into space for a few minutes before realizing her body is shaking.
A draft?
To keep warm, she crossed her arms and leaned on the table. A black tank top and red used-to-be-track-pants cutoff shorts were not sleepwear fit for drafts.
I better make sure the door is closed.
Nori got up and headed towards the garage door. Slowly, she opened it to peer inside.
No, he's not in here. But
She opened the door the rest of the way
Hey! It's safe! I don't see a single snake in sight.
She looked at her left arm, at the only and [by default] the ugliest scar on her body. She remembered the day when she got it. She was twelve then and had gone in the garage to get some tape, and a snake came out of nowhere and bit her directly on the vein in the crook of her arm. Blood went everywhere; her mother screamed and cried when she saw her.
Shuddering, Nori closed the door.

Drallen woke with the sun and went inside to find his mistress in the doorway to the garage, in what were obviously her sleep clothes. She was looking at her arm funnily.
"Are you alright, Milady?" Drallen asked concerned. "I'm sorry, did you want the snakes in there? I could go get some more. Come on. Come into the kitchen and I'll make your breakfast." With a smile he lead her to the kitchen and set about making pancakes, eggs, bacon, and some rice.

Surpised, she went with him in the kitchen and leaned against the table.
"Oh! I'm okay; it's better with the snakes gone. I was just shocked."
Nori watched Drallen as the wonderful aroma of food filled the room and her appetite returned almost instantly.
He didn't run away?
She rubbed her arm.
I'm glad he's still here.
"Thank you."
