Okay, this is the second Raist Majere thread (I've always wanted my own). We all know that Raistlin is a cold, unfeeling, antisocial, selfish, mean, nasty, creepy, intense, extremely ill guy. Why is it he is everyone's favourite character? Is it his aura of mystery and power? Is it his ability to survive against all odds? Is it his unyielding iron will and his utter determination and single-minded desire to acchieve ultimate power? What? WHAT?! I know why I like him. It's because he knows what it's like to be made fun of and ridiculed. And then he went and took on Takhisis and showed those #%$$^%@%$$!s!

First of all, it wouldn't be a very good book series if one of the main characters was offed.... ninja I'm sure it's the evil, too. The evil is hawt. And weird eyes are a bonus, although I wouldn't wish 'em on anyone for the sake of appearances.

Why is Raist most people's favorate...
Difficult question to answer...
Is it his intelligence, his personality, his well roundedness, or is it something a little deeper?

Personally I love Raistlin because I totally relate to him...IRL I have a twin brother...I have never been the popular one, and have another brother who is just like Caramon...popular, overprotective, strong, and he's just a big teddy bear.

Raistlin is such a well rounded character. So much so that despite him technically being the villain in DL Legends, we still get behind him...I know I wanted him to attain Godhood...
Raistlin speaks to that little part in all of us that most people try to deny...that little black spot on our souls... our own personal ambitions, desires, and grievances. He is like a mirror to our dark sides...He reflects that in ourselves, which we don't like to acknowlege, but must accept as part of what makes us who we are.

I have always been intruiged with the characters that are the most difficult to understand. Why does Raistlin switch sides so much? Is everything he does for the enlargment of his power, or does he have a heart? Obviously he does have a heart, because personally, i probably never would have befriended Bupu.

Raist switches sides so often because he serves only himself. Everything he does he does for power and control over others. People are pawns to him and if they have no reason for him to utilize them, they mean nothing to him. Yes, it is all about his ambition and power.
He does have a heart. You can tell from his final moments with Crysania in the Abyss. Deep down, he did care. But his pride and ambition outweighed any personal feelings he may have had for her. With his goal in sight, he would totally give up anything that could distract or hinder him in any way.

(I may not seem like it in here, but I can be the most bitter and cynical person at times...that's when I'm not online.)

It is sad, and it's a personality trait I try hard to get out of, but given how my life has gone and the experiences I've had, it's really damn hard to do it. I can water it down a bit, but I can never get rid of it. When my friends started jerking me around, the cynicism came out tenfold because I bottled it up. It's only been in the last month that I've started to regain my "normal" mindset. I will never get fully back to my happy old self, but honestly, that doesnt bother me.

In my opinion it is because he is the perfect tragedy. He is truely evil with a streak of compassion that shows itself at the strangest times. We love his passion and drive yet we find ourselves cheering for and against him at the same time.

Much like Caramon, we all have the secret desire that he can be saved. We want to believe that one day he will come home and renounce his evil. We know it will never happen, but we still hope.

Raistlin is a tragic character because in order for him to have everything he wants, he must destroy everything he wants.
