I don't know where he stood politically (but he probably wasn't very liberall), but quit frankly i don't care, meer christianity is a great book that i'm recommending to any new coming christians, anyone who wants to renew their faith, or anyone who is like me, has been in the church all their lives, and wants to find an actuall reason for them believing in god, besides just knowing their parents are right and thats all i know. i've only gotten half way through the book, but so far its amazing.

I'm a huge C.S. Lewis fan myself. Personally, I think he was more of a moderate than anything else, and a Christian FIRST. wink
That said, he was very old school.

He does seem to have "priorities" straight. I started laughing when I read his response in there to criticism about him not addressing homosexuality. I nearly fell off the chair...such a straight guy. xd

he is a master at discussing spiritual truths in entertaining language.
he also is a master at satire! he truly skewers some targets who have it coming, in The Great Divorce, That Hideous Strength, and less so in The Screwtape Letters.
so he leaves himself little room for pomposity or hypocrisy.
to me he seems honest and forthright, sympathetic perhaps with the sensibilities of liberals but not with their theology; attempting to be orthodox without being didactic about it.

Oh, hehe, well, his and my theology even out about the same, to be honest. I have a different opinion than him on gays, but i get the feeling he thought that was about the damned stupidest thing to get upset over he'd ever heard.

I personally have not read any of C. S. Lewis' books other than, of course, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. But! I'll do my best to get hold of a copy of that and read it.
He was born in my home city. In fact, born in the same area of the city as me. That home city being Belfast!

Anywho, I've read the entire Chronicles of Narnia, and I'd like to take a look at Mere Christianity. I think the bookstore has it.

I've never been able to get into the Chronicles of Narnia. I think that his other books would probably be better.

Mere Christianity has it's strengths and it's weaknesses. Several of his arugments are based on ridiculously circular logic or just no logic at all, which only drags down the book as a whole. It's a worthwhile read, but it couldn't hope to stand up in any kind of theological debate.
