Okay, so first i'll start off with a bunch of notes i wrote down when i wasn't listening to the teacher in history class. then i'll decipher them for you... "being born into your own body" "what if's; what if you weren't here? what if you weren't you?" "forgotten memories before what you remember; deja vu" "flashbacks - signifigance" from "dharma & greg", dharma says something along the lines of: "in what universe did i choose not to be born?" ----- so first off, have you ever thought about what life would be like if you weren't here? or if you weren't the same person you have become today? that kinda creeps me out to think about sometimes...and it seems kind of self centered to say this, but it's so weird thinking about the fact that life goes on without you...like, not accepting things that...well, let me put this in terms of me. i can acccept that i don't know things, but it's just weird thinking about, say, my boyfriend is singing in rehearsal right now. i have no idea if that is truly what is going on, in a way. because the only thing you can truly verify is yourself, if even. and the second thing i wrote was just an embodiment of the first one, in a way...i was going to start a "what if" thread...i think i might. ah, and about memories and flashbacks and deja vu...people forget things, right? and don't remember when they are born and whatnot? so, how do you know that infants really aren't so smart or whatever? (*sigh* okay, aside from science? rolleyes xd sorry...) and..i don't know...do you ever get those weird times when you just remember something completely random that you had forgotten about for literally years? i was just wondering if you think there is any significance to them...and kind of if there is any significance to dreams...that topic seems to fit here as well. as for the "in what universe did i choose not to be born?" thing...do we know if we really did choose to be born or whatever? or if we chose to come out this way? heck, for all we know, we could have decided our own fates in the wonb and never remember it o_O. aaand i get some random things that feel like memories or...for risk of being corny, "visions"...they feel like memories, but they're things i know never could have happened...so it feels like i would be remembering something completely random that i'd forgotten about for so long...but instead of years, it seems like lifetimes.... would it be possible for somebody to have been reincarnated from the future? ...that just made me think of merlin's thing, about how he was born on the wrong side of time...i find that to be a really cool idea... wow...o_O eek sorry for the uberuberuberlong rant...

Wow, that WAS really long! wink But I read it all. (i don't have enough time to go through all the points separately, but I'll tell you what this text brought to mind)
I had a dream once, so real, that I woke up in a panic, praying that it wasn't true. It was a pretty unrealistic dream, but I still thought it had really happened. It involved someone really close to me, and even now I still have doubts about whether it's true...Dreams are powerful...
But yes, I've remembered things from ancient days of mine...which brings up me question: If we can only verify experiences through memories, who's to say those memories were actual events? It's difficult to describe, but....say, I just scratched my arm. But since time is always moving forward, I'm always stuck in the present after I scratched it. So the only way I think I scratched it is that I remember. But couldn't they be fabrications, like the dream I mentioned? Who knows what a true memory is...

Wow, it's never really occurred to me before that our lives are all memories. That's so weird to think about. This thread just reminded me of something I read a while ago, I forget where. It was this quote from an ancient Chinese philosopher who said that one night he dreamed he was a butterfly, and now he didn't know if he was the philosopher dreaming he was a a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming he was the philosopher.

It's a cycle. oi.

It's a cycle. oi. That reminds me of something else! At the beginning of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, there's this prologue that usually is cut out when the play is performed. It's about this drunk bum who is found on the streets and brought back to a mansion. There the servants decide to play a trick on him: when he wakes up they will pretend that he is a noble lord and that he has just woken up from a coma or something. Then these actors perform The Taming of the Shrew for him. Think if you were that guy and you woke up one morning in a big bed with servants everywhere. I'd be pretty confused, but I'd also start questioning which was the true reality.

haha, that would be confusing. one of the ways to check if you're dreaming is commonly thought of as pinching yourself. but that one's been proven not always accurate. the best way is to check to see if you can control the light in your environment, and also to check something like a ledger or a phone book. if he really did wake up like that one day and could do all those things, he might be convinced that everything's true!

I've always wanted to have a lucid dream! I think that would be so awesome. Unfortuantely, in my dreams I am never aware that I am asleep. It's kind of odd that while I'm awake I can question whether I'm actually dreaming, but while I'm dreaming I never question whether I'm actually awake.

Faroresama Satanic version of Gaia..... eek
Anyway....what's lucid dreaming? Lucid dreaming is when you are dreaming but you have control over what happens in the dream. So its just like real life except it's a dream. I read an article about it a while ago...
