    [Name] Lirit
    [Age] Adolscent
    [Gender] Male
    [Flock] Rouge
    [Generation] One
    [Pelt] Black and orange
    [Favorite Color] Watery-blue
    [Mate] None

Lirit is naturally awkward by nature. He has difficulty expressing his emotions, though is unaware of the challenges he faces while even doing something as simple as expressing a smile when he's cheerful, or a scowl when he's disturbed. His socializing skills are far from learned, and he often feels that he must prove himself to be superior and impressive in order to gain friends.

For as long as he could remember, [ which wasn't very long- mind you ] Lirit could only recall one solid, sturdy fact: he didn't have friends. There had been the occasional lady bug he'd kept captive between his massive paws for some time- or that ant that he refused to let out of his sight... But when it came to Gryph's, Lirit wasn't exactly a swift socializer.

As a matter of fact, Lirit couldn't recall ever having childhood friends... Frankly, he couldn't remember his childhood at all. Any and all memories of being an infant, a chick- just a little kid, seemed to have been plucked from his brain. That is, if he ever had the memories in the first place.

Lirit knew nothing of a family. He knew nothing of parents- the word itself was foreign and strange to him. Friendship- the Hippogryph knew what friendship was, even if he didn't possess much of it at all... To sum himself up quite bluntly- Lirit was a loner. His position of a 'rouge', flockless and herdless, fit him quite well, actually.

Because of his constant oblivion to his past, Lirit developed a mildly apathetic, even slightly sadistic personality. His constant captures of random insects and his strong desire to 'disect' them [ even though he never quite got the chance to with any of his victims ] reflected a strange quality within him. It wasn't often, after all, that you saw a scrawny little Gryph holding a butterfly down with one paw and holding an extracted talon to it's wing with the other. Somehow, though, Lirit never had the oppurtunity to continue with his experimentation. There was always one thing or another distracting him from it.

    [ More to come. ]

Roleplay
It started off as an innocent experiment. How long could an ant squirm for before it gave up and lied there, tired and helpless beneath the massive paw of it's predator? It seemed, though, that the ant could not only lift things hundreds of times more then it's weight- but it also had the patience of a saint. It had only been five or six minutes before the large, sleek black paw was removed from the struggling ant, who promptly scurried off in a panic.

Disappointed that he hadn't been able to weigh his victim down with boredom and proceed to disect him, the little Gryph decided that it would be best to see if fish were a more suitable canidate for his bizarre means of entertainment. Standing up in a suprisingly swift movement that one might not've assumed the little creature maintained, it wasn't long before the black and bronze colored Gryph approached the nearby, soft flowing stream, leaning down and glancing curiously at his reflection.

Awkwardly turning his head left and right before raising a hesitant paw to the waters surface, it seemed that Lirit was absolutely astounded by the mimickry that his reflection maintained. His jaw parted slightly, his true shock at watching the exact replica of himself was almost a bit cute.

Anxious to see if he could actually catch a fish to experiment on, Lirit regained his composure. Nobody saw that, right? Good. Staring into the clear water of the stream, the cub raised an eyebrow, watching hopefully for any signs of scaley, fishy movement.

(( n.n Lake! ))

Kuja had found, what he thought was a quietly place to lay and snooze by the stream side. The noise of the water was rather soothing and help him sleep peacefully. There was even a small smile on the chick's face.

But his peace was disturbed when his sensitive ears caught the sound of another disrupting the gentle flow of the stream. Dark blue eyes opened in an annoyed manner as he stirred awake, groaning while he looked around for whatever was doing that.

Spotting the other, he gave a snort of amusement the other Gryph's expression when he looked into the water.

Aw. Lirit had thought he was safe from anyone having seen his perplexed reaction to his reflection... But that mild snort that rang through his acute, pricked ears told him otherwise. Closing his pastey blue eyes in a hurry, as if he were hoping by blinding himself whatever it was that had made that noise would go away, Lirit was deeply disappointed- once again- when he opened his eyes.

Across the stream, it appeared that a creature very much like himself, physically, at least, had been disturbed from... Some business or other that Lirit didn't quite care about. Letting his eyes rest on the smaller, lightly colored Gryph, Lirit observed soundlessly. Hmm. He was sort of big- Lirit was used to experimenting (or trying to, at least) on much, much tinier specimens.

Ants. Butterflies. Ladybugs. That whole 'fish' idea of his was a fluke. He doubted he could catch a fish, then proceed to disect it with his talons while it squirmed and bounced about. Well. In any case- whoever, whatever that was across the stream was safe. For now.

"Do you have a name?" The Gryph asked bluntly, calling across the stream as he reclined comfortably onto his hind legs, letting his folded wings twitch slightly at his side.

Hearing the question, Kuja's ears flickered back, his eyes shifting from left to right. What was that about a name? Deciding against trying to answer the older Gryph, Kuja merely stretched out his paws in front of him, his behind stretching up into the air.

Once he was done stretching, he got up onto all fours and padded closer to the water's edge to get a better view of the other and giving a rather loud mew as a hello.

Lirit blinked several times; as if fluttering his eyelids up and down would better help him understand the situation. The little fellow had stretched. Stretched some more. Got up. Proceeded to stand at the edge of the stream. And meowed.

... Somewhere along the line, Lirit had become excruciatingly puzzled.

"Er... Can you speak?" he asked delicately, in the kindest of voices that he could muster... Which, unfortunately, wasn't really 'kind', more then it was obnoxious.

Kuja's ears flicked up straight at the tone the Hippogryph was using. Was he being rude to him?

An odd scowl appeared on the chick's face, ears turning back and pressing against the back of his head. A faint growl coming from his throat.

He did not like rude Gryphs at all! All he said was hello! Turnign his head up, he closed his eyes and snorted in a rather snobbish manner.

A rather dumb, though understandably confused expression triumphantly claimed Lirit's muzzle. The startled creature wrinkled the tip of his snout in distress, perking his head dramatically to the side, watching Kuja yet still with curiousity.

"No need to be all prissy. I was just asking if you had a name... I guess you can't talk, though. Huh? Hm?" Lirit's voice, just in that very sentance, had been from almost sincerely apologetic, then mildly confused, then almost demanding! Pawing lightly at the earth, Lirit's forepaw collided with the soft, moist earth beside the stream. For a moment, Lirit thought he'd lost his balance as a bit of earth fell out from beneath him and landed with a splashy 'plop!' into the lake... Though the Gryph somehow managed to regain his balance.

Playing it off as though nothing happened, his cerulean eyes glanced anxiously between the water and the small Gryph in front of him.

Kuja was about to consider smiling at the Gryph again before the tone became rather demanding. Looking rather grumpy, he looked back at Lirit's and gave him a rather snappy mew, standing up to try and make it all the more intimidating.

When the Gryph almost fell into the lake, Kuja's eyes widened and he hopped back a few steps to keep away from any splashing that might come his way.

A sly, but strangely enough self-flattering smirk came to dance eagerly across the Gryph's muzzle. Ordinarily a smirking expression might make lines across one's face, or make you appear wrinkly and disoriented... But for one reason or another, it seemed when Lirit smirked, he looked like quite the handsome little guy. Unfortunately, he didn't smirk much.

Returning back to a normal, neuteral facial expression, the creature raised his head dignifyingly, his eyebrow perking with a slight quiver. "So." He concluded finally, as he began to pace very slowly, back and forth across the stream, eyeing the chick cautiously. "You can't speak. You can understand me, though, yes?" Very interested in the little creature, Lirit had made an effort to sound unthreatening now, as he spoke.

Padding closer to the water's edge again, Kuja sat once more blinking curiously at the other. When he had finished speaking, he just eemed to stare off as though trying to get something. This Gryph was confusing! His tone kept changing!

Now he has to listen to what he's actually saying more intently then he had been!

After a few moments, Kuja just mewed, it could of been taken as a yes, but then again he could just be saying hello again.

Lirit was a patient soul- which was fortunate, because despite his increasingly confused attitude towards their little situation, he was still raptly interested in the mute little creature across the stream. "Alright, well since you can't speak... I'll do the talking for the both of us." Nodding with a fair amount of confidence, the Gryph glance cautiously down towards the water once more.

Awkwardly staring into his reflection, he noticed something-

"A FISH!" Screeching triumphantly, it wasn't long before Lirit transformed into a black and bronze blur, disappearing into the clear, shallow water. With his cannonball, though, unfortunately for Kuja, came a massive splash from impact. Water spritzed and flew everywhere as Lirit's body was engulfed in the cool stream.

Kuja practically jumped out of his skin as the other shouted "A FISH", only moving back a few centimetres before water suddenly sprayed him soaking wet.

When the water had touched the little creature, Kuja was immediately sent into a frenzy, whimpering and running about the place quickly. Trying to shake the water off.

NO! His lovely fur and clothes were ruined!

Roleplay
Somehow, Lirit always managed to end up near that stream. He wasn't sure exactly what it was about it, but no matter how the little hard the little Gryph tried, he was always drawn to it. The most likely reason was because the water was as clear as a sheet of glass- you could see the darling little pebbles at the base, accompanied by the occasional red beta fish.

But most importantly- Lirit could see his reflection in the water.

His reflection had always fascinated him, and just a few short days ago was the first time he'd discovered it.

Wandering closer to the waters edge, it wasn't long before the uniquely tall, lanky-limbed Hippogryph was peering over the edge awkwardly, staring curiously at the face watching him from the water.

Susan yawned lifting her head as a new being entered her field of vision, "that is not a sheep. " She watched the being as it crossed and seemed to peer down into the river. She wandered more and more, little Rosie (her human) let her romp as she pleased in the field, but this certainly was not the field. She didn't want to be a play thing, she wanted to play with others, she had bitten Rosie, and the two-leger had made her stay in the field for quite a few days, of course she found a way to escape. "That is a gryph, but so am I" she puffed up and stood to her feet. She wondered why none of the grpyhs spoke of their two-legers, did the have a human?
Her white wool coat stood out like a sore thumb as she tried to sneak up behind this Gryph. "Boo!" she giggled staring at him.

And of course, what better a response to being snuck up upon then to fall into the stream itself? Well, that was exactly what Lirit did.

Sqwuaking with little to no grace, the creature's immature wings splayed out in a desperate, vain attempt to hover and avoid the collision of Gryph-to-water. The inevitable occured, though, and a moment later a splash erupted from the depths of the cool river, spritzing out in every which direction as the black Hippogryph sputtered, surfacing to the water's edge.

"What was that for!?" he demanded cruelly, eyeing the pretty, fluffy white Gryph suspiciously. His coat was sleek and laid glued to his body due to the water that had completely saturated his entire form. He would've been rather cute if he hadn't sounded so aggressive.

"S..s..sorry! Do you need help?" she sputtered out as the Hippogrpyh fell into the water. A blush spread across her face, "I didn't mean to! I was trying to say hello, didn't think you'd fall!" she whined stepping closer to the streams edge to get a better look at the grpyh. Her feet sunk into the bank, her wool absorbent collected the moisture and turned a disgusting brown. " I don't know how to help," she gasped as she stared at the black grpyh.
Her ears flattened and it seemed that she was about to bawl her eyes out.

Feeling slightly more dignified as he saw Susan's goat become messy-ified and her face distraught, the prideful creature thrust his snout into the air, closing his eyes diligently.

"I'm fine," he hissed confidently, barely making it to the edge of the water with his neck above the surface. It was a good thing that the water was shallow- Lirit was simply fascinated with his reflection- he hadn't gone as far as actually swimming yet!... Lirit silently thanked the fact that the water wasn't threatening to rise above his head just yet.

Pulling his forelegs up to the mushy, lumpy edge, the Gryph pulled himself up. He proceeded to shake his entire body out in a similar fashion to a wet dog: water spritzed in every which direction. It was unfortunately clear that he didn't care very much for splashing Susan with even more water.

"Stop your whimpering, I'm fine," he insisted with dignity, his coat still damp, sticking feircly to his lanky, tall body.

Letting his eyes finally rested on the pretty little sheep-Gryph, the creature raised his head slightly, an eyebrow quirking curiously. "Do you have a name?" the tone of his voice had seemed to soften a bit- but he didn't look at all any kinder.
Lirit sometimes had issues with displaying the proper emotion he felt.
Right now, he was curious.

Susan blinked furiously as a drop of water fell into her eye, and made an angry snort, " I woulda helped!" she insisted, the hurt tone in her voice couldn't go unnoticed. "Susan, what's yours?" she asked watching the other Gryph, she felt small as he approached her, even smaller now that she had gotten wet. She was like a sponge and her coat absorbed all of the moisture. "You got me wet, silly. Sorry for getting you wet! You can sure swim!"

She eyed him cautiously he seemed to be angry, but why? She had said she was sorry?

"Susan?" he repeated dumbly, staring at her as if for some further explanation. Well. That was unusual. Then again, what kind of names were he to compare hers to? She was the first Gryph that he'd actually... met. There had been that strange chick, but he really didn't think he'd properly aquainted himself with the poor fellow.

"Lirit," he responded with a delicate ounce of pride, raising his head a tad bit and allowing his muzzle to be pulled back into a very faint grin. For someone who'd just fallen into a stream, he was very quick to change emotions. Very quick indeed. "Sorry about that. Didn't mean'ta. I just didn't wanna stay soaked and all," he explained with a small dose of sincerity.

Hadn't he just been rude a moment earlier?

In any case, Lirit was giving Susan a sort of half goofy, kiddish Gryph-smile. "Why're you in the meadow?" he asked curiously, taking a step foward before he slid down and sat comfortably in front of her.

Roleplay

"Lets see... and I stretch out like this.." The young hippogryph was squirming around the fields of the central area, extending out her wings as she tried to capture the wind beneath her feathers. Apparently she was planning on learning how to fly a much longer distance then she could and her horsefly was helping! Aeryn would watch how those tiny wings flutter, but it really did not help seeing how hers were different, shape and size wise. "Is this even right?" She peered over to the smaller creature in doubt and wiggled her body around, feeling a little odd about her current posture. Lia had instructed her to tilt over to the left, and she did, balancing one two paws while the others hung in the air. "I really don't think I'm going to be able to fly like this."

Lirit hadn't been there for very long... Well, perhaps five or ten minutes. He'd been trotting quite carelessly along the edge of a stream until the water abruptly ended, leaving him a bit crestfallen. No sooner had he finished pouting the end of his stream did he notice a very colorful looking Gryph... squatting? Well, whatever it was she was doing, Lirit decided it would be best and give her some constructive critism.

... Then again, it always helped when you knew what it was, exactly, that you were critisizing. Raising his head profoundly and trotting over towards the spot in the field that Aeryn and her Horsefly were... doing whatever, the dignified Hippogrphy cleared his throat unecessarily, hoping to catch the girls' attention without introducing himself at first.

"I really-Oh! Hello there." As she was about to perform an "amazing feat", the female child heard something from behind and looked over her shoulder, spotting a rather dark-looking hippogryph. Aeryn got back onto her four paws as she turned around fully, hopping in her spot with much excitement. Had he come to learn how to fly too? Or maybe he just wanted to play. Well, whatever it was, Lia was not too happy about how he was interupting her 'lesson'. The horsefly chittered its teeth in his direction and fluttered over to land upon the head of its owner, watching him.

Her tail wagged back and forth while she smiled at him. A big and friendly one. "I'm Aeryn! Nice to meet you.~ And this is Lia." She rolled her eyes upwards to point out her 'instructor' for the day.

Lirit watched the Horsefly without much interest; a simple eyebrow quirk and a hardly noticeable nod was given as the girl told him of her little pet. While she introduced herself, though, Lirit kept close attention.

"I'm Lirit." he responded with pride, a small, flashy Gryph-smile teetering across his muzzle. Taking a step towards her before he settled down and sat comfortably, occasionally letting his wings twitch subconciously, it was a moment before the Hippogryph spoke again.

"What was it exactly you were trying to do before?" he asked casually, his eyes fluttering around before slowly returning back to Aeryn. He didn't want to seem too interested in whatever she'd been doing... Even though he was.

For some reason, the horsefly felt uncomfortable with the other around them and quickly slid down its owner's head, neck before landing square on her back. Using two to three feathers, it hid beneath them and pretended to rest for a bit, since it was partially tired after teaching her for at least an hour.

Aeryn blinked slowly and followed suit in sitting upon the soft ground. "Lia was telling me how to fly... but I guess it was working really." She took her free wing with her paws and hugged it against her body, grinning as she visioned how silly she must have seen from before.

Nows your chance! he thought schemeingly, a sly smirk coming to take it's rightful place on his muzzle as his mind whirled. What better way to make friends then to completely show them up? Lirit wasn't exactly... used to social interaction. You couldn't blame him for being completely clueless (though he'd seldom admit it) when it came to making friends.

"... Are you saying that you don't know how to fly yet?" he asked softly in a slightly demeaning, almost superior fashion.
Little did he know he was digging himself into a hole.

She blinked once more, not seeming bothered by the question since she did know how to fly, just not high enough to get the fruits from the tree tops. One little thing that Aeryn had a problem with was.. if someone tried to insult her or anything, she wouldn't know till she was told bluntly, plain, simple and in her face. The female hippogryph was not the brighest of the lot because of her optimistic view of the world. But hey! There's nothing wrong about that.~

"Well, I can. But I just can't fly up there! Like our parents!" Using a paw, she pointed out at the sky above. "Can you though?"

Lirit raised a curious eyebrow at that word.
"Parents?" he repeated without care, clearly unknowing to the meaning of the word. Quickly, though, his attention was given to Aeryn's latter comment. Can you thought? Well. Of course he could fly! It was in his blood, wasn't it? Therefore telling her (while putting great emphasis on his skills) wasn't considering lying, right?...

"Of course I can fly." he answered plainly, grinning in an almost cheerful manner at her. There. That wasn't hard, was it? She'd be impressed, and Lirit would have a new friend. Psh. It wasn't like she was going to ask him to demonstrate or anything. Hah!

"You can?! Wow!" Aeryn jumped back onto her four paws and ruffled her wings in excitement. Many of the younger generation could not even go pass the bottom half of the trunk of a grand tree. But this hippogryph could! He could really fly! Amazing! Skipping over to his side, she nudged his neck, as what she would usually do to imply something, and smiled wider at him, her pink eyes sparkling with astonishment!

"Could you show me?"

... Well that had been unexpected.
The Hippogryph snorted lightly, as if he were being modest of her initial praise. Grinning internally, (though a trace of a ghostly smirk seemed to appear on his snout) the creature was about to say something along the lines of 'well, I, of course, have been flying since yaddayadda', when Aeryn proceeded to nudge him.

Lirit emitted a sound that was a cross between a snarl and a whine, snorting as he flared his nostrils with disapproval. Nobody touched him. He strayed away without even realizing the bizarre reaction he'd performed to just a simple poke, and it was clear that he wasn't even concious, it seemed, of how he'd responded.

"Show you?" he asked, as if nothing had happened. "Well... Of course I can. I've just got to test the wind to see if it's... safe flying weather." he explained with sophistication, before he spread out one of his wings, as if to test the degree and speed of the air.

The child giggled, clearly oblivious to his dissatisfaction of being touched. It was her own habit of nudging people for odd reasons, and she probably picked it up ever since she was a wee hippogryph when her mother did tapped her muzzle against the side of her neck, telling her it was time to get up. Or just to grab her attention from watching a little insect make its way home.

"Okay!" She chirped and sat back onto the ground, examining the other enthusiastically, waiting for him to take flight. Aeryn asked of nothing since she figured it might distract him and cause him to fumble. Her horsefly, on the other hand, just chattered and raised a confused look.

Lirit continued to stare cheerfully, blissfully unaware that Aeryn was very expectant of him... Though as the prolonged silence continued, Lirit had a very sudden, very dreadful feeling bubble in the pit of his tummy. She wants me to show her!

Well. Well! There was a first time for everything, right? Besides, if he messed up, he'd just blame it on the wind. Exhaling deeply, the foolish Gryph proudly puffed his chest out, raised his head with an amount of dignity too much to consider respectful, and spread his immature, though unusually wide, skinny wings.

"Ready?!" he squeaked roughly, closing his eyes as he exhaled sharply and took off.

Running at what he considered to be a good 'take-off' speed, it wasn't long before the Hippogryph suddenly realized he was not going to be able to fly. Still, though, he wanted to try. Lirit began to beat his wings feverently, hoping that by some bizarre strong of luck he'd somehow manage to miraculously be lifted into the air.

Roleplay
Wish was sitting herself on a rock, swiviling her head from side to side. It was such a lovely day out. She was really enjoying it.

Stretching her back, she began to pad off the rock, wandering down towards a shadey spot. It was a bit warm today and she wanted to get out of the sun.

Was there ever a time that Lirit wasn't in the near proximity of a stream? Apparently not.

The young Gryph seemed to be attracted to narrow, flowing bodies of water like a little kid was to a candy store. Whether it was deliberate or subconcious, the tall, lanky creature always managed to find himself in an open field with some sort of body of water.

Trotting alongside it quite carelessly, offensively eyeing a butterfly, he kept in check, careful not to fall into the stream as he'd done so many times before... When he noticed a lightly colored Gryphon not too far off.

Puffing his chest out pridefully, Lirit turned directions, heading over to Wish diligently.

"Hello." he started, looking down upon the smaller creature with confidence. "Who're you?"

Suddenly having a bit of a shadow cast in her direction, Wish turned to see a slightly larger, boy gryph making his way over.

"Hi." she chirped happily as he spoke to her, "I'm Wish..." she paused, tilting her head at him.

"Who're you?"

Lirit grinned triumphantly, making sure that his chest was properly puffed out and his legs were holding him as tall as he could possibly muster before he spoke back.

"Lirit," he said coolly, watching the littler Gryph with a small, hardly intimidating smile. "Watcha doing out here?" he striked casually, finally relaxing a bit. She was just a little Gryph... He didn't need to act all big, tough and macho just to makes friends with her, surely.

"Well..." she started, letting her bottom fall to the ground, "I was just sitting on a rock for a little while. I was letting the sun hit my belly." she grinned.

"But then it got really warm, so I was wandering over here to get in the shade." she nodded.

"I'm just waiting around until TrueHeart says we're going home." she let herself flop onto her side, wiggling her toes a bit.

"Isn't it nice out?"

It took only a fraction of a second for Lirit to become alarmed. "TrueHeart? There's another Gryph around here?" Not good! Had Lirit let his macho guard down too soon? Becoming anxious, the boy decided that it would be best to become resituated with his inflated ego once more. Raising an eyebrow skeptically, Lirit re-entered "tough" mode. After all, how else were you supposed to make friends if you didn't try your very best to come off intimidating and superior?

"Anyway... That sounds pretty boring. You were just lying there? What about exploring?" he suggested with a small, sly grin, wagging his tail slowly as his ears swiveled around.

"..." Wish raised an eyebrow as Lirit puffed himself all up once more.

"TrueHeart is one of the leaders of my flock, silly. Of course she's around! Not near here though. Off further into the fields." she stretched a bit again before rolling over onto her belly.

"Lying around wasn't boring either. It was really nice. Relaxing." her tail wiggled a bit.

"Exploring?" she blinked, "I don't really go exploring."

Lirit relaxed, both physically and mentally when Wish explained that TrueHeart wasn't actually coming... Well, not now, at least. His brain seemed to fix for a moment before he refocused his attention back to the little Gryph, and his body shrunk a bit, allowing him to relax and appear like an actual normal creature once more.

At Wish's bizzare (in his opinion, at least) reaction to his suggestion of exploring, Lirit's face lit up instantly.

"Yes, exploring, of course." he insisted with an almost playful grin, and he picked his head up slightly, his snout pointing at the sky. Flaring his nostrils, he sniffed the air. The weather was lovely... Though you didn't exactly need to smell the air to notice the cloudless sky.
"C'mon, it'll be fun. I promise," he tried coaxing her happily. Most of the time he wandered around alone- perhaps going with someone would be more fun.

"Well..." Wish pulled herself up to her feet again, padding lightly at the ground, shaking a bit of dust off her feet.

"If you really want to, I suppose we can then." she grinned and wiggled her nose.

"Where are we gonna go exploring to?"

Lirit nearly yelped out a gigglish 'yay!', but restrained himself, mentally making a note that manly, tough Gryphs didn't giggle- nor did they squeal the word 'yay'. Instead, Lirit cleared his throat a bit, allowing his good natured grin to widen just a bit. His tail wagged slightly, flicking at his flank before he spoke.

"Into the forest, of course. Where else?" he responded as if it were the most obvious answer possible. Smiling cheerfully, Lirit muttered something along the lines of 'follow me' as he trotted past Wish, heading towards the collection of trees in the near distance.

"So what kind of a name is Wish?" he asked judgementally, hoping that the smaller Gryph could keep pace with him.

"The forest? But.. isn't that dangerous?" her words were half warning, half inquiring as she began to trot along behind Lirit. Her brow furrowed slightly with concern.

"Wish is the same sort of name as 'Lirit'." she retorted with amusement in her voice. "It's the one I have and the one gryph's call me by."

What a silly question to ask.

"Dangerous?" Lirit harbored an awful habit of mimicking what others said. "Of course not," he added hastily- though despite the quickness of his voice, he seemed very confident in his answer.

Grinning smally as Wish gave her witty comment, Lirit seemed content with her response. Bobbing his head mildly as they walked, it wasn't long before the pair reached the beginnings of the forest.

"Stay close behind, now," he advised shortly before disappearing into the thicket, careful to not trip over stray roots and such.

"Well... alright then." Wish's ears pinned back as they reached the forest. She was fairly certain that they were not supposed to go in there.

It's too dangerous for little gryphs she recalled older members of the flock saying. She was pretty certain Grumpy wouldn't have vouched for an idea like this either.

But she had said she would go. So, she was following after Lirit still. Besides, it was safer if you didn't go alone, right? Afterall if someone got hurt there would be someone to help them!

Yah, that was a good idea. Lirit would have likely gone alone if she hadn't agreed to follow along, so this was for the best.

"Okay." she nodded as Lirit advised her to stay close behind him. Once he entered the thrush of the forest, Wish quickly scampered along to keep up.

Miraculously she didn't trip over anything.

Lirit grinned happily, very pleased to see that Wish was keeping up. True, she didn't seem nearly as enthusiastic as he was about exploring- but that was alright. Maybe if she enjoyed herself, he'd've given her a new hobby! If Lirit knew the turmoil that was presently going on in Wish's mind, though, he probably would've thought twice about dragging the reluctant Gryph inside.

However, Lirit was no mind reader. He was, however, enjoying himself. As much as he'd never admit it- there were flowers here in the forest that you'd never be able to see lying out in a clearing. But he was a manly-man!... Who didn't like flowers. Not at all. Not even if they tasted sweet like honey.

... Not like he would know. He'd never eaten a flower before.

Smiling still cheerfully, it was a moment before Lirit completely stopped in his tracks. Ears pinning against the curve of his skull defensively, he stuck a paw out, obstructing Wish's path. "Hey," he whispered in a small hiss, "Quiet. Stay still." it was probably nothing- but still, something had alarmed Lirit. But what had it been?

Wish hadn't really noticed any noise at all, her head was to filled with thoughts and confusion...

And then her face was full of Lirit paw. "mfph fgh..." she stopped as he told her to be quiet and still. The younger gryph practically froze in step. What was going on?

Surely she heard it? Lirit wasn't crazy, he knew that he'd heard someth-

And there it was again. It was nothing louder then a gentle, barely audible twig snapping beneath someone- or something's paw, foot, claw... Lirit couldn't tell just by listening. His brow arched slightly, and he took a step foward.

"Hello?" he hissed dumbly, not realizing that attracting attention from his unknown thing probably wasn't the best course of action to take. It wasn't long, though, before a pair of gleaming yellow eyes were exposed from the brush, seconds later followed by a silky black coated... cat? No, it was too primitive looking to be a cat. Whatever it was started to hiss softly, watching the two Gryphs from a safe distance.

Peering around Lirit, Wish's eyes went wide as this strange, black furred creature appeared. It didn't look to happy...

It also appeared to have rather sharp teeth. Which likely meant, it also had very sharp claws. Wish swore she could feel her heart jump up into her throat then. Her little body tensed and she took a few steps back away from the scene.

Lirit's forepaws relaxed and tensed, and it wasn't long before the Gryph spoke, his voice laced with apprehension.

"Could we pass through here? We don't mean to bother ya," he mumbled, though he made a point to articulate his voice so that he wouldn't have to stand here making a long conversation with this predatory-looking creature.

The panther's tail flicked anxiously behind him. He was still a cub, but panthers were built large by nature. He wasn't as big as Lirit, but he had a few inches over Wish. A soft, aggressive growl began to bubble in the pit of the panthers throat, and it's claws detracted from it's forepaws slowly. You should have thought twice before coming through this way. I live here- the creature paused, rephrasing himself. My mother and I live here. She won't be happy if I tell her there have been two strange things walking around... The panther seemed to be calculating something in his midn. I'll let you pass, though, if you give me that little one behind you. Mum will be very proud of me if I tell her I've hunted down something almost my size all on my own! Grinning wickedly, the panther remained stationary, it's gleaming eyes unmoving on Wish and Lirit.

A snarl claimed the Gryph's face. He had just met Wish! He wasn't going to let a potential friend- someone he'd spent a good amount of time trying to impress into friendliness- become eaten by this thing! Returning the small growl, Lirit narrowed his eyes at the thing.
"No deal. Let us pass through, or you'll be sorry!" he threatened, though it was clear that Lirit wasn't much of a match for the panther... Well, it seemed that way, at least.

Wish frowned lightly. What was this silly gryph doing!?

"Lirit... c'mon let's go. We can get back to the clearing and explore another place, okay? I bet there's lots of interesting things further on." she attempted to coax him, not wanting to see a fight.

Fights were bad. She wished Grumpy were there. He was bigger than her and likely could talk Lirit out of it better. Or maybe have convinced him not to go in the first place.

"Please?"

Lirit returned the frown, turning his head at a slight angle to see Wish.

"But I wanted to go into the forest! Besides, he doesn't own the woods... You can't let things like this just make you leave," he tried to reason. This panther was acting like a bully- Lirit didn't think it was right to try and play king of the forest. Not when he wasn't the king, at least.

"Don't worry- he won't eat you," he added bluntly, staring very plainly at Wish. "He won't. Definitley won't. Besides..." he started thinking again, knowing this was a bad idea. "Besides, I can fly! You can just hop onto my back and we'll fly right over him," he lied fluently, smiling smally.

"Then we can make faces and stick our tongues out at him," he added under his breath, before he turned back to the panther, who was glaring feircely now.

What are you two talking about? Hurry up, then. Either give me the small one or get out of my forest!

"Shouldn't start a fight..." Wish warned quietly. She wasn't even certain that it was this little creature she was most concerned about.

It was the word 'mother' that kept repeating in her mind. Which meant 'bigger' and 'more dangerous'.

She shook her head at his suggestion of hopping on his back. Even if he could fly, she was more than certain that her weight would discourage that.

Finally defeated, Lirit gave a heartfelt sigh. Closing his eyes for a moment, gathering up all the dignity he could muster, he mumbled in a soft voice.

"We'll be leaving." he answered in a hiss of a voice, glaring cruelly at the smirking panther.

Keep in mind that if you ever decide to tread in my forest again, I'll make sure that you'll regret it.

Lirit turned around slowly, giving Wish a slight nudge on her shoulder, suggesting that she leave first so Lirit could cover behind her.

And next time I won't be so nice! the cub panther shouted, his gleaming yellow eyes narrowed before he disappeared back into the thicket, leaving the retreating Gryphs in silence.

Wish nodded her little head and began to trot out of the thicket. She was most pleased that Lirit had decided against fighting. She really hadn't wanted to see something like that.

Fighting was never a good answer.

Once the brush cleared out from around her she was happy to see the clearing again. Wow! She'd have so much to tell her family now!

Well, at least Wish was pleased. That made a total of... one of them. Still, he couldn't help but feel just a tad bit elated at making her happy. Generally Lirit was simply the one making people grumpy or agitated. This was a nice change.

"Alright, well we did my thing, and it wasn't much fun... What do you do besides lay around?" he asked, sincerely curious for once. Pausing as they reached the clearing, Lirit turned a bit to face Wish, a small grin on his muzzle.

Wish turned a circle and bounced happily. Her entire body wriggled at the question.

"Play games of course!" she chirped excitedly. Oh yes, games were just the best thing in the world!

She recalled playing games with Aeryn when she was still to small to see. They had been a lot of fun though. Since then she'd taken up playing with others in the flock. Tag, hide and seek, whatever sounded like fun at that time.

"Games?" there he went again. Lirit could've been a professional echo if he wanted to be- it didn't seem like there was any time when he didn't repeat one word or another.

This time, though, it was clear that Lirit had no idea whatsoever as to what Wish was talking about. "What's a game?" he asked sincerely, raising an eyebrow, his voice laced with curiousity as he sat down across from the now enthusiastic Gryph. A small, sheepish grin played across his face as he tried not to appear dumb for not knowing what a 'game' was.

Roleplay

By the lake.
What a suprise.
Since Lirit belonged to no flock in particular, he decided that this lake was his home.
Lake or a stream? he suddenly thought, his features contorting into a sort of dismal appearence, before he suddenly grinned cheerfully. It'll be whatever I want it to be. It's my home, afterall! he concluded happily, before speaking aloud to no one in particular.

"I'll call it a steak," he announced with a grin. It was a combination of a stream and lake!... But something about that word sounded bad.
"What about... a leam?" Smiling triumphantly, Lirit nodded to himself, continuing to trot happily along the edge of the cool, trickling water. "I'm lirit, and you're my leam. I live here," he spoke to the water calmly, occasionally leaning over to peer into his own reflection. Peculiar.

The little yellow chick waddled over to the stream. He was having a good day-- he'd been lazy most of it, but that was okay. The sun was shining cheerfully and he was in a good mood! He'd seen Gaea the day before. Apparently she and Duke were going to make their own flock sometime. He hoped he could be in it when he was big!

"Oh! Hello there!" he noticed the older chick a moment later,
"Are you enjoying the sunshine as well?"

Startled, but not so much so that he chanced falling into his 'leam', Lirit took a sharp intake of air, his chest pounding for a fraction of a second before he calmed himself. Just a little kid! Grinning with a prideful sense of himself, Lirit bowed his head deeply, as if he were some sort of ancient, tribal elder.

"The sunshine..." Lirit repeated dumbly, raising an eyebrow. "Why, should I be? Do normal Gryphs enjoy sunshine?" Lirit's voice may have come off as taunting or malevolent- but he was simply curious, was all. He hadn't meant his voice to come off as cruel, though frankly, that's what it had been.
"No, though. I've been watching the water, actually," he said in a much lighter voice, which peculiarly contradicted his earlier tone.

"I'm Lirit. Who're you?" he asked sincerely, pausing in his journey across the edge to stare at the little yellow ball of fluff.

Helios was immune to feeling insulted, really. He was such a cheerful gryph by nature,
"Normal gryphs like whatever they like. I like sunshine, though. Gaea does too, though she likes plants 'n stuff more."

He walked over to the lake and dipped a paw into it curiously. Maybe he'd have a bit of a swim and then enjoy the sun drying him off! That was a great feeling!

"I'm Helios. I'm from the North Flock."

Lirit stared blankly at the happy, carefree Gryph. Gaea. Had he heard that name before? Yes. Yes, he had. He was fairly sure that Wish, that other cheerful Gryph- What is with all of these bubbly things!? Am I supposed to be perpetually happy like that too?... had mentioned someone named Gaea as well. Entertaining this pluck of curiousity, Lirit started to trot beside Helios, watching as the little one looked into the lake.

"I've heard of her. Who is she?" he demanded pridefully, puffing out his chest thoughourly before Helios spoke again. Flock? How come Lirit didn't have one of those?

"I don't think I have a flock," he started slowly, hesitance in his voice for the first time. "No, no, I definitley don't. But that's okay, because I live by the Leam," he explained with a happy grin.

Helios blinked,
"No flock, huh? Who takes care of you, then?" he wondered, "And what's a leam? ....Gaea's my friend. She's big and green and really nice."

The water wasn't too cold. He slipped his paws into it, letting them adjust a little as he waded into the water,
"Maybe you can be in Gaea's flock."

Lirit's mind processed this- slowly, but it was being understood, at least, in any case.
No flock, huh? Who takes care of you, then? The yellow fluffy one's words churned through Lirit's mind. Clearly, then, he figured logically, a flock was something that took care of you. Well! Lirit was a mature, grown, highly intelligent Hippogryph! He needn't anyone to take care of him. Right. So afterall, he didn't need a flock.

"This is a Leam," he explained extravagantly, his long, skeletal like wings unfurling as if to show the expanse of the area they were in. "This place by the water. I live here," he finished with a loyal grin, glad that now he had a name for this short expanse of grass where he stayed constantly.

"I would like to meet her someday," Lirit added in response to Helios's statement of Gaea. "The Leam isn't exactly a flock- but I would like to become allies with her," he rambled on dramatically, as if he were some sophisticated Alpha. He could pretend, right?

Helios blinked, not sure he understood all of what Lirit was saying. That was okay, though.
"Oh. A leam. Okay. Sure, you can meet Gaea sometime. You could meet her now if you wanted. I know where she's living, even though she left her old flock."

He ducked his head under the water, splashing about a little bit. So much fun!

Lirit grinned proudly, puffing out his chest a bit. A Leam! It really was a place!... Well, now it was, at least. And now someone else knew about it besides himself. Smiling more to himself then to his new aquantince, Lirit cast a glance over the edge into the shallow water, watching Helios play.

Lirit sat down beside the stream, folding his paws over each other as he rested his muzzle ontop of them, his jaw bouncing up and down as he spoke.

"Yes, I'd like to meet her... But take your time," he chided- almost in a playful tone, a wide grin taking up most of his features. "You know, I've never played in the water before?..." he admitted with a sheepish, faltering grin, watching Helios apprehensively.

Helios smiled,
"You should! It's lots of fun. And then you get to have the sun warm you up and dry you off and it's really neat!" he nodded to himself,
"We can go see Gaea, though, now if you want. It's up to you."

He had all day, really, to play in the water.

Hmm. Lirit liked this! He nodded suddenly, grinning as he stood up, his awkward, long skinny legs stretching out as he yawned broadly.

"You come off to me as a sorta happy fellow who likes to make others happy. That's a good thing. A good thing," he repeated with a grin, nodding for emphasis. Lirit liked this very much! Helios was so friendly, that it almost made Lirit feel empowered. Like he was in control.

... Which, of course, he wasn't, but a kid could dream!

"I'd love to meet her now, actually," he decided finally. Afterall, there was all day to play. The time for creating alliances was now!

Helios grinned,
"I do like for other people to be as happy as I am!" he agreed, not thinking this is a bad thing at all.

He clambered out of the water and started trotting off, enjoying the sun evaporating the water slowly out of his fur and not even bothering to shake off the excess droplets.
"This way!" he called back to the other.

Lirit followed the little guy a foot or so behind him, trotting at a lesuirely, easy pace.

"So, this Gaea-girl. Big, green, really nice, you said?" It was slightly curious how Lirit had remembered the exact wording that Helios had used... Though Lirit had always been like that. He had a strong memory... Even if it was just for simple things.

"Good. Nice is good. Like you- you're nice," Lirit added thoughtfully, perking his head to the side as they walked.

Helios nodded,
"yep! She's a full-grown adult gryph now! And she's really nice."

He continued his trek a bit longer, heading into the jungle-y area where Gaea and Duke had set up their little camp.

Gaea heard noises coming towards her resting spot and trotted over in its direction. She spotted the familiar form of her little yellow friend and smiled,
"Oh! Helios!" she cried, coming over and nuzzling him gently, then turned to smile at the newcomer,
"Who's your friend?" she asked.

Lirit trotted importantly up beside Helios, clearing his throat quite unecessarily at the sight of Gaea... To which, of course, he was understandably stunned. He'd never seen a Gryph older than him before! Choking back a gulp, Lirit regained his composure.

Trying his very best to appear tall and mildly intimidating, Lirit bobbed his head a bit, waiting for the pair to finish greeting each other before he spoke.

"I'm here strictly on business, miss," he explained seriously, his eyes as monotone as his voice was. "I'm the Alpha of the Leam- right now we don't have many Gryphs," he began flawlessly, making it up as he went along. Besides, how would she know any better that he was lying? "I believe Helios mentioned something about you being a leader.. of.. something," he added ungracefully, clearing his throat as his pastey blue eyes flickered to the ground, then back to Gaea. "And I'm here to propose an alliance between our two territories." he finished boldly, holding his head pridefully.

Duke had been snoozing with Gaea when she got up and walked away. Such actions get his attention, forcing him to wake from slumber with a grumbling sound and a yawn. His ears flag behind him and he turns his head to look in that direction to see her walking up to two Gryphs. One, of course, he recognizes.

Slowly he pushes up to his feet, stretches out his legs and his wings before he comes to join them. When he approaches, he catches just the tail-end of the conversation.

His head drops to stare Lirit in the eyes. "A little young to be considered an Alpha, don't you think?"

The moment that Duke had slid into the scene, Lirit felt something inside of him condense into mush. Swallowing hard, the Gryph found himself unable to fake any sort of power, intimidation; anything of the sort. On the contrary- he felt himself highly inferior to this large, regal looking Gryph that towered before him.

Trying desperately to muster up what little courage the child had left, Lirit nodded reassuringly, before he spoke, his voice clearly careful and cautious- nothing like the offical-business one he'd used just moments ago.

"Yessir, I-I'm the Alpha of the Leam." he explained in what he hoped to be a courageous voice- though it hardly was.

Helios looked incredulously at Lirit. He'd just said he didn't have a flock...how could he be an Alpha if he didn't have a flock? Well, whatever. He snuggled against Gaea, nuzzling her chest affectionately.

Gaea returned the little guy's affection, then smiled at Lirit, nudging Duke,
"This is my mate, Duke. It's nice to meet you, Lirit," she said gently. She wasn't going to mention anything about his alpha status-- if he wanted to pretend, well, wasn't that something she and Duke had done as well?
"An alliance, though? I think we'd have to meet the rest of your flock, first....and really, we haven't much of a flock just yet. It's only the two of us."

Lirit hardly noticed Helios's behavioral disapproval of what he was doing. Besides- Helios was used merely as a tool to get to the higher authorities, wasn't he? Of course. Lirit didn't need friends, he wanted power! Power was fun, right?

That makes sense, Lirit thought mildly, his eyes switching between Gaea and Duke. Mates. That's like... best friends. 'Cept more. They're running a flock together. Repeating all the information in his brain in hopes of properly remembering all the facts.

"Oh! Oh, good, because I'm in a very similar situation to you two, then. You see, I'm the only member of my flock as well! You see? We're so alike- I personally think that we would make great alliances," the child rambled enthusiastically, hoping that he could pursuade the two.

"I still think you're too small," answers the older male as he keeps his eyes locked with Lirit's, an act that would be considered intimidating given his greater size and the intensity of the stare.

"Besides," he adds with a quiet voice, finally drawing his head away. "You're also too young. If anything you should be joining a flock for protection. Why, I doubt you can even fly..! How do you expect to be safe?" He gives Lirit a little flick in the head with a forepaw.

'Intimidated' didn't even begin to describe the emotions that were flooding Lirit's body. There was something along the lines of a combination of fear, apprehension, and mortifiaction that perhaps described it. He didn't know exactly why, but for one reason or another, the sense of authority that Duke was giving was terrifying. While he could speak to Helios and Gaea freely, he felt very small and insignificant while under Duke's eyes.

"Too small," Lirit repeated mechanically, his brain screaming to find something witty and clever to retort with- but nothing came. He listened grudgingly as Duke explained what Lirit should be doing, and how he was going about this all wrong. Then, to top it off, the adult flicked Lirit on the skull.

Lowering his head with a great amount of shame and very little dignity, a small, slightly whimperish sound flooded from his muzzle. Wincing his eyes shut in embarassment, his entire structure seemed to drop foolishly.
"Sorry to have bothered you," he mumbled through a clamped jaw, his tail wagging feebly between his legs as he began to turn slightly. There was just about nothing that could happen to make him feel worse.

Helios wandered a little bit away, rolling over and enjoying a little spot of sunshine he'd found. He'd done what he came to do, and was perfectly willing to let the two adults take it from here.

Gaea nuzzled Duke gently,
"Don't be so harsh..." she said softly, for his ears only. She returned her attention to the little one before them,
"If you're going to ally with us, you may want to come stay a bit closer. Since there's only you, we'll have to have you nearby so we can make sure to watch you. We wouldn't want anything to happen to our ally."

Lirit was fairly intelligent. Sort of. In his right state of mind, he might've picked up on the psychological game that Gaea was playing at- but right now; embarassed, shameful, foolish- Lirit wasn't thinking of anything but getting as far away from Helios and the others as possible. Especially Duke. Afterall, the adult was right, wasn't he? Who was Lirit kidding? Obviously not any of them. However, it seemed as though whatever Gaea was scheming was going to work. For now, at least.

Perking up considerably, though still with a fair amount of damage to his ego, and a bit of hurt in his mind, Lirit turned a bit, facing Gaea through blurry blue eyes.
"You'll ally with me?" he mumbled almost incoherantly, sniffling with embarassment before he pulled his head up even more, repeating himself. "You'll really ally with me!?" he cried out, making a gleeful sort of whinny noise as his wings fluttered involuntarily against his back. "Sure! Sure, I'll move closer! The stream doesn't end too far from here, maybe I could just stay by the end? O-Or, if that's still too far, I could just stay closer to you guys. Besides, if any of you get in trouble," he slowed down a bit, recomposing himself, "Then you'd need me- your ally- to help you! So of course I'll need to be close!"

The older male lets out a grunt when Gaea speaks to him, ears pinning back into his mane and he rolls his eyes. "I'm just making a point. He's better off being in our flock until he's older."

He grumbles again, shaking his head then rises up to walk around the boy and stop him in his path.

"She's right. You might as well stick around, kid."

A panging feeling of discomfort washed over his skinny frame as Duke stopped him in his path. Feeling small and meaningless once more, though considerably cheered up from what Gaea had suggested, Lirit nodded lowly, clearly giving both agreeance and deep respect in his movement.

"Right, right. I'll stay r-real close by to your guys's flock. You can count on me to be a good all- a great ally," he pipped up, hoping that Duke would agree with Gaea on their 'alliance'.

Though considerably cheered up, it was clear that Lirit hadn't quite caught on to Gaea's playing along in his game of pretend.

Gaea smiled,
"I think the end of the stream would be good enough if you really wanted. But, it might be easier if you were closer. I'll leave that up to you, though, of course. It's your flock afterall."

She trotted off a bit to nuzzle Helios' tummy while he lie on his back soaking up the sun. He was such an easy chick to deal with.

Helios laughed, enjoying the tickling of his tummy by Gaea's muzzle,
"That's pretty neat! Glad you got that all worked out. You'll like hanging out with Gaea and Duke. They're lots of fun!"

Duke says nothing to that comment, walking back around the boy with a slight roll of his eyes. Despite that he himself had engaged in games of pretend, he had grown up and had very little tolerance for such. Gaea had always been good with kids; Duke never had.

He wanders back to the soft mound of grass that had been crushed under his weight and as such, made perfect bedding. So it's here that he lays down, closing his eyes, ready to go back to sleep.

Lirit's eyes followed Gaea and he smiled happily, a giddy, lopsided sort of expression dancing across his muzzle. "Well, I guess I could sleep closer to here- you know, just for- for safety reasons. During the day I'll patrol my end-of-the-stream territory!" he suggested happily, overwhelmed with relief of how things were working out.

Lirit turned to face Helios, and his good natured grin seemed to broaden further. Perhaps becoming friends with this little guy wouldn't be so bad. Afterall, they were in allied flocks, now.

"Fun? Just like swimming in the stream, right?" Lirit egged him on with a grin, hoping that Helios would want to go play in the water. Lirit was up for it now!

Helios smiled, rolling back over onto his tummy and wagging his tail,
"Sure! Just like that!" he smiled, "And if you wanna play and I'm with my flock, you can just come find me. I'm in the center area a lot."

He hopped up a bit to nuzzle at Gaea before trotting over to Lirit,
"D'you wanna go play in the stream now?"

Gaea smiled at the two, then went over to curl up next to Duke again, nuzzling him affectionately,
"Oh, he's just a little chick, Duke," she admonished, "Let him play at being an Alpha. We did the same when we were that age."

He makes an 'mmf' sound at her, obviously not willing to agree. He does respond, instead, with, "All the more reason he needs to stick around. He's that age."

Thought he'd never ask! Lirit's mind chided dramatically, but the child grinned with relief, and he nodded his head feverently. "Yep! I'll race you there!" he called over his shoulder, cheating to attain a headstart as he pelted himself foward.

Walking, he was awkward. Sitting he was slightly awkward, and standing still he was awkward. Running, though... Lirit seemed to fly across the ground when he ran. His long, lanky, normally uncomfortable legs actually helped him in this case. Plus, he was a bit older then Helios- which aided in his arrival to the stream as well. Lirit wasted no time as he plunged himself into the shallow water- though he regretted it immensely as his bum smashed against the soft pebbles on the bottom. Squealing unhappily, Lirit realized that he couldn't swim.

Not that it was an issue of life and death- the stream was shallow; only reaching about to up his shoulders, but still. Embarassed that he hadn't even realized he couldn't swim, he tucked his head down, waiting for Helios patiently.

Helios grinned, taking off after the other. He really didn't care if he made it there first. He was having fun just playing in general. With a whoop, he splashed into the water after Lirit, not even noticing his embarrassment.

Gaea nuzzled him,
"And he will be..." she laughed, "And he reminds me a bit of you. What would you have done if some strange gryph had told you you were too young to do anything?"

Lirit grinned sheepishly, performing a mildly pathetic attempt at a doggy paddle as he floated over towards Helios.

"Er, I have a confession," he began to mumble softly, closing his eyes and preparing for the worst reaction possible: being made fun of. Lirit couldn't help it if he was vunderable now, though! Especially after what just happened.

"I can't swim," he half whispered, looking down unhappily.

Roleplay

Well, now was a better time then any to interject, wasn't it? Lirit had splashed upon the scene with a grim, taunting smirk settled onto his muzzle and an idly flicking tail behind him. His paws kneading the soft earth beneath him, claws flexing and relaxing beneath his weight. Two chicks and... What looked like a mountain of black and white fluff. Their father, perhaps? Lirit doubted it. Neither of the two lightly colored chicks looked enough to be related to him. The white one, maybe, but she was much too far off. The big guy didn't even seem to have noticed the white one.

His attention already cast, Lirit slid down the dusty hill with a suprising amount of grace. He held himself with a superior air- his broad haunches squared as he sauntered up to and behind the big black and white Gryphon.
"Don't you have better things to do then to babysit?" he asked in monotone, coming up from behind Malcom before he reached the other Gryphon's side, pulling up and sitting across from him.

"No," Malcom said simply, used to this. He didn't even make eye contact as he lay himself down and crossed his paws, keeping his eyes on the little Jenna. "Besides, I don't know where the other one showed up from, I'm only supposed to watch the first one."

Malcom looked puzzled and looked around. Who's chick was this one? Had someone else volunteered him and failed to mention it? He groaned, that seemed typical.
Not exactly the reaction that Lirit had been hoping for, but it was something at least. The Gryph stared hard at Malcom, leaning over to look at the chick that he claimed to be watching.
"She doesn't look much like you. So who's the lucky lady? She around?" Lirit asked, respect lacking greatly in his voice. He waggled his ears around a bit, raising an eyebrow at Malcom. If this didn't get a rise out of him, he'd just have to try harder was all.

Malcom looked at him squarely. He had no rank, but that and years of taunts like this had chiseled in him a kind of proud patience. Patience was all he had, patience and his brain.

"I suspect she's off with her mate somewhere," he replied without so much as a sneer. He said it plainly and didn't even blink. "She's not mine, I'm watching her for her parents."

Part of him wanted to say Don't -you- have anything better to do than taunt me? Part of him wanted to get up and roll the guy back up the hill he came from, but that wasn't in his nature and he swallowed those feelings down keeping his face stoney all the while.

Roleplay

Lirit didn't know what was going on.
For the past month or so, he'd been feeling like a wreck. One huge, horrible, awful wreck. His brain had been functioning, but the rest of his body was like a zombie.
A slave to my own brain?... he thought mildly, shaking his great, prideful head slowly. No. That was irrational. Unreasonable. Unbelieveable. How could someone be so feelingless? Of course he was in control of himself! It was his brain, so he must've had some idea of what he'd been doing with himself for the past month.

But he didn't. Lirit was helpless.

He felt so lost and strange in his own body. Every time he would stretch his wings- he almost became frightened. They were so large! He could fly if he wanted to... But Lirit didn't fly very often. He loved heights, but he couldn't fly. If you flew, you were in total control... And what if something went wrong in his head? And he forgot how to fly? He'd fall- plumeting to the ground where he would meet nothing but death.

Lirit had stopped flying a few weeks ago.

He'd stopped eating a few days ago. Not because he was depressed- there was nothing to be depressed about!... But simply because he wasn't hungry. Lirit used to eat like a lion- now he rarely let anything pass down his throat besides water.

Lirit used to love the river and the lake. He was able to stare into the reflection of the trees, the clouds, the sky- even himself, for hours. Now he avoided it as if it were a disease.

You could fall into the lake, he told himself. And if your limbs go askew, you could drown. You could die. Lirit hadn't been to the river in ages. He had no intent on going back, as long as he had a say in it. Which he did.

You're in control, he would tell himself. Your brain is -yours-, you control it. The brain doesn't control you. You control the brain. Yet still, Lirit found himself suffering from severe paranoia.

What had happened to the egotisical, bratty, domineering Lirit who had picked on little kids? Lirit was slowly losing himself, but to what? It didn't make any sense. Lirit felt a change coming- and it's coming soon, he would tell himself. The change would let him know what was going on. Something had to be done, or Lirit would lose his mind.

If it hadn't been lost already.
