I can't seem to find a "favorite couple" thread.
If there is one, please direct me to it and delete this one, but for now I shall keep this here for personal useage.
So what is your favorite couple in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time?
I, for one, like the Albel and Nel couple.
I do see the Albel and Fayt couple, although I do think it's a little over used and some people just want a gay couple and put no reasoning behind it. But there is plain reasoning behind it. Fayt seems to have respect for Albel, and vice-versa. Albel actually seems to have respect for all the people in his team, but it seems to only be surrounding Fayt, Cliff and Nel, for he meets them first. I don't really see him respecting Maria enough, for they don't really speak. In the game, Albel is constantely pestering Fayt and this brings to though that Albel is actually trying to learn more about our Protagonist. Maybe romatically, maybe just to have a friend. Let the mind wander. (I for one think Fayt is afraid of Albel)
Albel and Cliff may also happen. They do have the anger thing down in the manga, but in the game they don't really interact as much.... Cliff doesn't seem to have much respect for Albel, seeing he's pretty laid back and it seems like Albel just thinks he's a bluthering buffoon. Also, another couple just to have yaoi in unless you really look into it. (Right now I can't think of reasoning for this couple)
Maria and Fayt is a possible couple as well. They do seem to have undieing respect for each other. In the game Maria repeatedly tried to comfort Fayt, or just try to get him out of his emo side (A.K.A. Aquaelie scene). I think this is a very possible relationship. Although they do need to get to know each other better.
And although some people deny it, it is obvious the first canon couple you see in the game is Sophia and Fayt. There are more scenes with them together than any other persons. Sophia is Fayt's friend from child hood and she seems to know more about him and respects him as someone older than her, although she does try to boss him around because she thinks he's into his video games too much and because she's just another normal girl who feels she is superior to a man (I always think I'm superior than men). They do look out for each other, but Fayt being the male is usually taking care of Sophia. It could just be "sibling" love (like family ties so strong it's as if you're brother and sister) but it could also be real plain love.
Mirage and Cliff is also another couple to think about. Cliff and Mirage have probably known each other for a long time, seeing they went to the same dojo. They are also team members. Their ties can be stronger than the team mate bond as well, seeing they both understand each other a little too much. Mirage and Cliff show they respect each other at any moment they have, Cliff commenting on her power and Mirage just plain listening to him. They also both raised Maria, it might have been a good experience as a "Mother" and "Father". Also, in the manga Cliff gropes Mirage by the breasts, but she hits him. Although she took a while to react, seeing she had a bored and annoyed look on her face, maybe showing that he'd done it before ( ;D). Alas, he does this to almost every woman.
There is also the illustrious Clair and Nel couple. They are both childhood friends, and show that they have much care for each other in the game. Clair being worried sick about Nel and Nel talking about her once in a while (or probably thinking about her if you really thing about it. She does say "I did it Clair" when she either wins a battle or levels up). They might just be really best friends, or they might have a romantic relationship. (I do think there is a possible chance of their relationship, but I don't think they are really a couple just because they're best friends. I find it annoying when people say that, because you are best friends with someone, you like them, for I have had it happen to me before).
Oh yes, don't forget about the Nel and Cliff couple! Cliff and Nel don't interact much in the game in a romantic way, but if you read the manga you will find out that Cliff "hits on" Nel and "makes moves" on her. He calls her beautiful and even asks if she wants to have sex, in a sense. ("I'll be your partner all night long." "What are you talking about? Training?" "It seems this underdeveloped planet can't understand advanced metaphors. I meant partner in bed." Or something like that) Nel seems to get flustered by all his comments. He even goes as far as to grope her (while they're going through the aquaducts, he's behind her and...) and she, of course, hurts him. Of course, Cliff does this to every woman so it might just be his nature, but who knows. ;D He also looks up her skirt.
Another couple that is not very well renowned is the Tynave and Nel couple. In the game there isnt' much show of this, but in the manga Tynave and Nel have their own little comic. Tynave has to dress up as a man (because she looks more boyish than Farleen and Clair) and find out if Nel is a spy for Aireglyph. This is, of course, a trap that Farleen, Clair and Nel made to see how good a ninja/spy Tynave was. Tynave seems to think Nel is very beautiful and that deciving her is wrong and runs away with her from the leering eyes of Clair and Farleen who are watching her. After this, she almost kisses Nel after giving her a flower, but Nel stops her and says she's a bad ninja/spy because she did it all wrong and cuts her pay. But she also sticks the flower that Tynave gave her behind her ear. Tynave is also very protective of Nel. In the comic when Nel is bringing Cliff and Fayt back to their carrige Cliff asks if she's wearing panties and Tynave jumps out of the darkness and in front of Nel, telling the two men to stay away from Nel protectively. Nel proceeds to embrace Tynave from behind telling her who the two men are. It might just be a mild case of romance, but who knows.
Another couple that people don't know about is the Cliff and Tynave couple. In the game they don't interact much or even at all but in the comic Cliff and Tynave fight, like, in every conversation. They can never talk to each other without fighting. When Cliff met Tynave he thought she was a boy, so Tynave corrects him by saying she's a woman, so Cliff checks by groping her chest. At this Nel hits him and Tynave cries on Nel's shoulders. After this Tynave and Cliff hate each other. Tynave calls Cliff an "old man" and Cliff calls Tynave a "boy". This is an example of "hate is another form of love" type of thing. But this might just be pure hate as Cliff gropes about just every woman, but who knows.
And another couple (the list goes on) is Fayt and Nel. Nel saves Fayt and Cliff from their dungeon (which means nothing but I felt like writing it). Fayt and Nel interact very much in the game in a positive manner. They don't, however, interact very much in the comic, but that might just be because the comic concentrate on Nel and Cliff more. Fayt can be paired off with everyone at the end of the game, and if you get the Nel ending it is expected that you support this couple. Nel is also very concerned about Fayt's health, as her and Cliff panic when he falls while going to Kirlsa. At this point Nel tries to find solutions as to help Fayt, but Fayt says that he can walk. (Actually, I can't think of much for this couple, so if you have any suggestions as to why this couple is a couple, I'd be glad to read them and add them).
And another is Fayt and Luther. Fayt must defeat Luther at the end of the game because he is threatening to destroy the eternal sphere. Most people like this couple because of the bondage they can imagine if Luther liked Fayt. I have heard that Fayt IS Luther's character in the Eternal Sphere before, or that Fayt was modeled after Luther. So maybe Luther is narcassistic and loves Fayt because he looks like him? Maybe. (Actually, please give me some reasonings behind this couple, for I can't really think much up right now).
Another couple is Maria and Mirage. Mirage brought up Maria as a mother figure and as a best friend. So along the years they spent together it is only natural that maybe one of them had fallen in love with the other. Maria might respect Mirage in many aspects because it is clear that Mirage totally owns Maria in places that she can't even comprehend. Following orders, fighting, staying calm and talking things out. Maybe respect could turn into admiration and we all know where that leads after a long period of time.
And another couple is Fayt and Lieber. Yes, yes it is purely crack but hear me out! Lieber is in love with Maria and finds Fayt as a rival and an obstacle to get her attention. He might, and probably is, jealous that Maria was so interested in him and payed no heed to him. One of the things you learn about people is that they aren't that bad. If Lieber got over the fact that Fayt wasn't such a bad guy, he might turn his love towards him. After all, he does look alot like Maria... And let's all face it. It's obvious Fayt isn't as straight as most people try to make him. (He's obviously bisexual ninja )
I'll write more after I can think of more couples.

But my favorite couple is definatly AlbelxNel! They both fit perfectly! Albel's psychotic, and Nel's well...she's a goody lil ninja! <3
My second one is CliffxMirage. You know they both have a thing goin' on there! ^^

I'm a huge fan of Nel/Clair, but what you said about the pairing does make sense. It's happened to me before too, but we both just laughed about it and continue to make jokes... sometimes even try to make people think we are a couple for the hell of it.
I also do quite like Albel/Nel, simply because they way they interact with each other is the funniest thing in the world. I also found someone who did a high school 'match-maker' test for Albel and Nel. You fill out a survey at your school and you're handed a list with your top 30 matches.. and guess who was at the top of each of their lists XD

I didn't do that to my friend because I was young when they used to do it. They sometimes still do it, but I laugh it off as well.
