Chaos magick is something that has appealed to me most in paganism. I'm an ecclectic pagan too, but chaos magick supports and encourages ecclecticism in its concepts. In fact chaos magick is one of the least organized systems in paganism. Some references:

Condensed Chaos by Phil Hine
Liber Null by Peter J. Carroll (haven't read yet)

Grant Morrison is probably one of the more well known chaos magickians of younger generations. You might know him as the writer of The Invisibles, contributor to the Book of Lies, and various other writings.

The subject was brought up in the Witchcraft thread of GD a while back; I found that it wold be the genre one would use when invoking the qualities or powers of a fictional character. I forget how the regulars exactly defined it, though. xp It was a good explanation.

Grant Morrison isn't related to Van Morrison, per chance?

I have never heard of Chaos Magick. Is it actual magick?

There is no "actual magick" its just magick in its self. Anything you use energy to make something happen is magick. Thats pretty much the explaination of it.

So why is it called "Chaos Magick"?

Different labels for certain energy used and how its used basiclly. Its kinda like a file system I suppose so that you know what kinda energy your talking about and how it is directed. What it is i have no idea. I would imagion something that creatures utter distruction.

Chaos does not necessarily mean destruction. Chaos's base meaning is 'lack of order', and as compared to some other forms of magic, like kitchen witchcraft, there is no defined structure or set of rules to it. It's the hauge-pauge category; hence a spell invoking the aspects or powers of a fictional character would fall into it.

Yes fictional characters are possible. In fact, I use Figment (a pink and purple dragon created by the Disney company for a ride called Journey Into Imagination) to store energy in like a battery. I give him negative energy, which slowly dissipates from him afterwards; or positive energy, which he stores. He's also a boon of creativity for me.

I've also created a spirit for myself for communication. His name is Shep, an English sheepdog who licks the faces of friendly people and barks at and guides away unfriendly people. This ensures that I only take on conversations that could be detrimental to me emotionally. It doesn't mean getting rid of bad people, just only sending them to me when I can handle them. Shep is very defensive of me and can sense my emotions well, like any loyal pup. biggrin

It took me literally 5 minutes to come up with Shep, and he started working just like that. Very cool.

I've also recently worked on the idea of invoking Bettie Page (a 1950's pinup/fetish model). She's still living, but the essence of her modeling persona is what I'm invoking. It worked very well yesterday, when I dressed up to go see her movie with some friends who are even bigger fans of her than myself. However if you're not old enough, don't worry about her.

Many people also get plenty of inspiration from Lord of the Rings and various role-playing games, though they have difficulty admitting it. I admit that I started playing D&D when I was 3 years old, heh. My best character embodies a lot of my qualities, which is sad, because I think she was generally far too rash in decision-making, somewhat judgemental of others (became the deity of law after all), and VERY egotistical. She didn't realize she couldn't take on 8 umberhulks as a level 10 paladin, until one broke her arm on the first hit. Somehow she escaped. Sounds far too much like me.... confused

Either General Discussion or Gaming Discussion; it's mostly referred to the first one, though. razz

I think I have done something with a creature(s) from a show before. One was a lion with wings and the other an angel type figure. They both appeared to me in actual form when I was watching what I had on tape. I believe that in magick they protect me from any wrong doings...and if anyone tries to get me with curses or such things the lion throws fire balls and the angel either throws shards of crystals or puts a moon sheild around me. Nevertheless I seen them as real creatures even though they were just from a cartoon....lol having a real lion protecting you is pretty awesome! 4laugh I think you can do anything as long as you put your mind to it and when you set your will to something nothing can stop you from truly having fun with the energy your creating. I feel that the rules are just guidlines and within that you make up your own set of rules you follow by.

I have an alter ego, too. LadyVIolence in fact. She is every part of my negetive being that sits as a little glowing ball somewhere inside me. When she's released, she is absolutely horrible to my GF [I don't know why] but it makes my GF have to kick me, hard, to get rid of her and we both cry after her cyclonic ways have left us in a heap..but, when i'm alone and she is released, she has a way of carrying me through pain using anger, lifting me so I can avoid being hurt.
