My favorite is Spirited Away -- just something about the storyline is so endearing. (I'd say Howl's Moving Castle, but really, the movie does no justice to the wonderful book despite Miyazaki's considerable skills.)
I'm looking forward to the Earthsea movie, though! Hopefully it'll live up to expectations. Just this summer -- so close!

Ah yes, Miyazaki time! This is my kind of forum <3 Please excuse the following rant ^^;
Fav movie~ Too many. I guess the hiearchy would be: 1st: Howl's Movie Castle/ Spirited Away 2nd: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind/ Totoro (before they redidit with the new -coughbadcough- voices)/ Laputa 3rd: Whisper of the Heart/ Mononoke Hime 4th: Porko Rossco/ The Cat Returns 5th: Etc. biggrin
Mononoke: a little over-played for me, but it's still a wonderful movie. Love the art and characters <3 The wolf pups are my favs :3 Howl: All I can say is OMFG. I loved the book and the movie just brings the characters to life even more. I bought the original Japaese version early so I could hear those voices too. Spirited: Makes me cry at the end. BEA-utiful story line<3 Kinda reminds me of my life in the factthat I'm waiting for something cool like that to happen (cool for me, bad for Chihiro) Nausicaa: Yet another, what can I say but OMG. I like the Ohmu <3 :3 Totoro: The very first Miyazaki I ever saw. I don't exactly like ow they redid the voices. The original english ones suited it better, personally. I liked the Cat-bus XD Whisper: One of the newer, less heard-of, I like how it's a story of just a normal, everyday girl. Actually a cool change from the fantasy-life from Hayao. The 'Cat" is in it! Cat Returns: What can I say, KITTY!!!! :glomp: Porko: Haven't watched it too often. Nifty story-line, but for some reason it's just not too appealing to me. Still like it though wink Laputa: I LOVE THE PIRATES!!! Also how the story ties in with mythology and the Babylon ideas. Poor girl when her hair gets shot off ;(
I think thats all ^^; Sorry, long post

Whisper of the heart was absolutely great, pompoko was hillarious but had a sad ending but that made it even better, mononoke hime was lots of fun I'll eventually convince my girlfriend to cosplay as san and ashiitaka with me, kiki's delivary service is a great starting anime very cute and fun, spirited away is amazing as is howls moving castle. ^_^ I love just about all his stuff lol.

[4U2ONA] I like Princess Monoke too because it has wolves and wolves are my fav animal. 3nodding Yay, Wolves! They are my favorite animal as well. Anyway, I have seen a couple of Miyazaki's movies and I have one thing to say: Where do all of those ideas come from?! They are all larger-than-life.

Actually almost everythig miyazaki does is inspired by actual events and the larger percentage of his movies invlolve very little that would be considered outlandish I mean one of his best movies is all about a girl going back to her child hood home and remember what life was like then. It's been praised as beautiful, amazing, and outstanding, and it's extremely mundane. The mark of a true master ^_^

Wow, my respect for him is increasing. If you really wanna find a reason to respect him watch spirited away and realize that he almost killed himself making it cause it was ALL him every cell of art was his, he vowed that was his last movie beacuse of it and lo-an-behold he made more, now though he has a staff of people working directly under him but they don't always understand him, watch the making of spirited away and see as he tries to explain how when the dragon closes it's jaws they should look like a dog's bayed fangs, when only one of them had ever own a dog. They actually when to a local kennel to look cause they couldn't understand him. And when he tries to explain how the dragon should move by talking about snakes falling from trees and how eels move when they're gutted and he finally just say the japanese culture is doom cause they're just staring at him like he's eating a baby. My girlfriend was watching it last night telling me this lol.

Yep Miyazaki is a genius! There's a really cool website totally devoted to Studio Ghibli http://www.nausicaa.net/Its got stuff from Earthsea (Gedo Senki) and summaries of all the Ghibli library. What's cool is that Earthsea is being directed by Hayao's son Goro. Hopefully Goro can keep the same inspiration! My favorite Miyazaki film...that's hard. Mononoke Hime I saw the most...couldn't wait for it to come out on video so imported the Laserdisc from Japan! I can't choose...What can I say I love them all!
