A lot of BnL fans don't really like their new stuff, saying that it is darker and more depressing. What are everyone else's views on this? Personally, I have liked everything by them to date, but listening to samples of their new songs, they don't seem quite as up-beat as they used to. It still sounds good, just not quite as happy.

I actually like their newer stuff more than their older stuff. I like the combination of upbeat melodies and not-so-upbeat lyrics. 3nodding

What do you consider their old stuff? Maroon? E2E? or the songs from their up-coming album?

I consider everything pre-Maroon as 'old'.

But now that I think about it, Maroon is what? Six years old?

I guess 'old' is a relative term. 3nodding

I would personally consider "Old" as anything really before Stunt, because it was Stunt that put them on the mainstream map. Really it's not old but pre-OH-MY-GOD-HAVE-YOU-HEARD-THAT-SONG-WITH-THE-CHICKETY-CHINA-LINE-IT'S-SO-FUNNY!

I tend to agree about the pre-Stunt albums as being the "older" records, but I think that's because I started listening to them when Stunt came out, so it doesn't seem "old".

You know, I realized I keep saying that I want to hear old BnL stuff at their concerts, but I can't really define what that is. Oddly enough, I think what I mean is the stuff that they don't usually play. So while Brian Wilson is one of the oldest songs, I don't think of it that way because they always play it at their concerts. Okay, that made no sense whatsoever sweatdrop . But, to answer your first question I do like all of their stuff, what I want to listen to just differs depending on my mood.

It's not so much the old stuff I like as the more obscure. I find some of the less popular old ones to be the best, but then I get confused when I listen to the new stuff and I can't decide ><

I like all of their stuff, but E2E is one of my favorite albums. I was not as impressed with BLAM.

There is definitely a difference between their old stuff and their new stuff. That is why I can understand if someone does not like their new stuff but I think it's wonderful. Their new songs may be more depressing but they still have the same wit... I don't know, thats just me.

I feel the same about BLAM. I don't know what I don't like about it... the songs themselves are good, but they just don't sound right, so I think it might be how it was mixed and produced. It just doesn't sound quite BnL-ish to me. I still like the album, just not as much as their others. 3nodding

Maroon's my favourite too. Followed by... probably E2E, then probably... BOAPS.

Don't get me wrong, I love E2E, but I think that it is, overall, my least favorite BnL album. I love every song on it, but it's just quite a bit more toned down than any of their other albums. It didn't seem to have that BnL'ish energy that their previous stuff had.
