~ A Quest for Sleep - Part 1 ~

Snoring loudly in the tall grass, a bright red gryph chick was resting, not so soundlessly, in a spot of sunshine. Flopped on his back, Mushu hadn't a clue that his horsefly was fluttering about his head, trying to wake him up.

No, no. Instead, as the purpleish horsefly buzzed by his ears, he simply snorted, huffed, and flopped over onto his pudgey belly. No one was gonna interupt his nap.

Reno the gryph was busy running about in the tall grass, chasing anything that happened to be passing by. He already had grass stained all over his white shirt from pouncing and skidding across the grass, not to mention the mud stains.

Though, his ears picked up a rather odd buzzing noise, maybe it was something good to chase!

Looking up just above the tall grass, Reno spotted something flying around the place and grinned. Perfect!

Getting flat against the ground, he proceeded to move forward. Once he thought he was close enough, POUNCE!

A yelp came out of the red gryph as the other flopped headlong onto him. What in blue blazes!?

Growling lightly under his breath, Mushu snorted in annoyance, turning his head and attempting to n** at the pale furred gryph... with cloth? What sort of Hippogryph wore cloth!?

Crik Kee fluttered down to the ground, watching the pair as Mushu began to struggle, attempting to push Reno off him. His warm spot was ruined!

Eh oh, landed one someone cranky, Reno thought as he whined at the struggling the other Hippogryph was doing, little legs flailing in the air. Well he got himself into a rather odd predicament.

With all the struggling the red one was doing, Reno was finding it hard to get off him, especially with all that nipping he was doing which he answered with a growl of his own.

Crik Kee couldn't help but make a short, laugh like noise as the pair of bull headed chicks grew more and more stuck together. Mushu attempted to fluff out his wings, but to no avail. Whining loudly, the chick flopped more, trying to kick up his back legs to knock Reno off him.

But he was still young, and unable to really do so. The other chick was heavy!

The chick made odd "oof" noises as he was kicked at, which weren't helping at all. Infact they were getting him rather sick due to how much rock they were doing.

And still being a chick, he was quick to feel sick. Reno whined, hoping to get across the point of how he was feeling if how he was acting wasn't any help at all.

As Reno whined, Crik Kee noticed the 'green'ish look crossing the chick's features. Recognizing it from looks Mushu had made when being ill after feedings.

Flickering his wings, he dove towards Mushu and nicked him on the head, a gesture meant to have the chick stop his foolishness and settle down. Mushu, of course, lord of all her purveys, snorted Crik Kee off.

This annoying new chick was gonna get off his back now!

Reno, of course, tried to roll off Mushu but to no luck. It was NOT helping his current nausea, and because he was feeling like that, he couldn't roll off.

It was a short time before he started to hiccough and gag a little in his throat, groaning a little afterwards. This wasn't going to turn out well.

~ A Quest for Sleep - Part 2 ~

Skipping about the fields, Torini pranced around in a circle, bending down and snuffing at something. Pulling her head back, she wrinkled her nose as a tiny, red paw came hurtling towards her.

Nickering with amusement, Torini whinied at the thing below her. "Hey! Get up get up! It's morning get up!" she called to it.

Mushu, on the other hand, had other plans. They involved sleeping. Not listening to some happy-go-lucky morning gryph! It was early... the sun hadn't even reached the mid sky point! Curling into a tighter ball, Mushu whined and snorted. Women!

Crik Kee, on the other hand, was happily fluttering about. The mornings didn't bother him at all... he was a lucky horsefly afterall!

Gaea frolicked in circles around the fluffy yellow mass before her. She enjoyed watching him. The little guy -was- very entertaining, afterall! He'd roll around and snuffle the grass and stuff and he was cute and little and fluffy!

She paused a moment as he started crawling in one direction, following him with her nose snuffling the ground for any sense of danger! Even though it wasn't her job to protect this little chick, she thought it wasn't a bad idea. Even if there wasn't really any danger here anyhow. He could get stung by a bumblebee, afterall!

Helios crawled forwards. He was tired of lying about and rolling around at this point. He needed more entertainment! He had caught a sniff of a different smell from any other he had ever encountered before, and he was moving towards it. Maybe it'd be snuggly and warm. Or maybe interesting at the least. Interesting was good too.

Gaea spotted another chick lying about in the grass. She blinked, then trotted over to sniff at it. He was...strange. Stranger than any of the other chicks she'd seen!
"Hmmmm...."

Pinning her wings back, Tori's brow furrowed as the little red moppet refused to do anything... interesting. She didn't remember being this boring when she was small.

Flicking her ears around, she got an idea in her head. She'd simply move him around! That was the ticket for sure! Reaching down, she did what her den mother had often done to her when she was small... picked him right up by the scruff of his neck!

Wow he was heavy!

Crik Kee stopped his fluttering around and eyes drew wider as the young Gryph picked up his friend. Uh oh..

Snorting awake again suddenly, Mushu let out a loud howl of annoyance. What was going on? Why was he in the air? And why did he smell morning breath!?

Ignoring the tiny one's pleas, and the fact that Mushu's butt was nearly dragging around on the ground, Tori turned about and looked around. Narrowing her gaze slightly, she made an attemptive grin, which proved difficult while having a mouthfull of fuzz, and began to trot in the direction of a familar face.

Gaea she believed. A friend of Duke's! And hey! She had some little ones as well with her! As she drew nearer, she blinked as she heard a strange, foreign sound to her. Bleating? It was then she noticed the... well it kinda looked like fur, white and pink... gryph? Anyways it was fumbling towards where Gaea and this other two chicks were...

How peculiar.

"Gwaeah!" She attempted to call out to the green Gryph.

Even though half deaf, Beast could infact hear the anxious bleating, and boy was it NOISY, he decided. So noisy in fact, that the lithe chick lifted his head from his front paws and sniffled the air angrily, hissing in annoyance at the general directiong of... well, the strangely noisy thing. Couldn't it see it was trying to sleep? How inconsiderate of it!

Beast would have none of this.

After directing a blind scowl towards the lamb, he snorted, grumbling as he curled up into a tighter ball. The day had not started well... all these ... things had been bothering him endlessly. But then again, there was little that didn't bother him, it was not poor Susan's fault in the least. As he had decided that perhaps ignoring the lamb would be the bst way to tackle the problem, a large female came forth, sniffling him.

This would just NOT do.

Snorting angrily, the Beast uncurled a paw and batted slightly at Gaea's maw, never hurting her, but rather... just pawing, almost as if trying to voice his obvious annoyance.

Gaea looked up from the chick she was sniffing (Beast), somehow managing not to notice the creature pawing at her, and peered at Torini curiously. Her eyes grew wide when she saw the red ball of fluff in the other's mouth,
"Hey! That's a chick, isn't it? Do you really think you ought to be carrying him around and stuff? I don't think you're big enough. What if you hurt 'im?"

Helios made his slow way towards Beast, then stopped upon touching him and attempted to snuggle against him, taking in his scent to get the feel of him...but felt a paw hit him instead. He backed away a little bit. Hmmm....very odd indeed...and there was another strange smell coming towards them as well! He lifted his tiny fuzzy head to sniff at the little lamb-gryph

Susan's bleating stoped instantly as she took note of what she had run into, it was large but did not in the least smell like her favorite things, humans. She squished her nose against it trying to take in it's scent. It smelled like something alright, but not her human.

What is that?

The fluffy chick could hear something, although muffled and was not at all sure what to make if it. They were not people voices, they sounded more like her to an extent. She leat out a slow bleat and shook her head from side to side as if to say, hello anyone there?

"Nw...Mm dwnf phnk hw'll bre hrff..." she knelt down and let the squabbling red fluffball down on the ground.

"I mean, no, I don't think he'll be hurt. Looks fine to me... boy he's awful loud though..." she mused slightly, shaking her head.

"Who are those chickies?" she asked, ignoring Mushu who'd curled up in a ball by this point, "I've not seen them before either!"

Stupid women folk. Mushu had a headache, and he wanted to go back to sleep! That Torini girl needed to go away. He knew she wouldn't though. She'd been around since she'd found him the other day. Seemed to have taken a shine to the little horned gryph.

Snorting into the grass, Mushu uncurled suddenly, while Torini was talking to Gaea, and started to slowly crawl away. He could hear others, smaller others. Probably closer to his size. At least, maybe, if he could get to them, he'd be saved another bumpy ride across the field.

"What a funny looking Gryph." Torini commented lightly on the lamb-gryph, changing the subject once again.

"Actually... they're all kinda... funny lookin'. 'Cept the yellow one..."

Gaea blinked, "They look different, but I don't think they look funny. All the little chicks are cute, in their own way." She trotted over to Mushu and nuzzled him very gently, making sure he was okay,
"Well, you're right, he doesn't seem hurt, at least."

Helios made his way determinedly to the fluffy little lamb gryph, sniffing at her curiously and then snuggling against her. Maybe she'd be as much fun as the other warm spot he'd snuggled and played with yesterday!

Well, the other gryph didn't feel like people hands, but he sure was warm! She pushed against him lightly trying to absorb his heat. Even with wool-like fuzz she was still very cold in the open air, and she shivered slightly, letting out a slow content bleat. You're soft, I like you. was what she thought and she slightly dozed.

Growling angrily (which of course, taking in his size and his newborn voice, came out more like a frustrated kitten yowl), Beast voiced his displeasure at all this... this snuggling, bumping and rubbing against his body. In fact, he was allready pondering going on an odesy (read: walking another five meters away from these here gryphs, because of course... the chick was SURE he'd be the ONLY one capable of such a feat), never once did it cross his mind that the larger gryphs would not only be able to follow his stumbling frame, but if he could... most likely, the other small chicks could.

So thus, the Beast-like-chick got up and began to try and pad away, failing utterly as he stumbled down, tripping over his own legs, not to mention running right into poor susan, sending them both down in a mangled heap or cloack, fur and feathers.

How.... how EVIL!

How terribly eeeevil! Lifting his head up, the small male finally gave in and opened his eyes to take a look around, whinning noisely as he tried to paw his way out of the mess he'd caused, however, he swiftly closed them, for the light was simply too bright to bear; how terribly unfair...

"Yah, I know. See! No harm done!" Torini lifted her head triumphantly, as though to prove that she new exactly what she was doing in the first place.

Which was absolute bunk, but Gaea didn't need to know that.

"Hey! Look at that! So cute!" Torini trotted over to where Beast was attempting to move around.

"He's trying to walk!" she grinned and nickered at him. At least her shadow was casting over him now, cutting the light off from him slightly.

Mushu found himself getting closer, and closer to other, hopefully more calm, gryphs. Before he got there, however. He was intercepted by Gaea, who was checking to make sure he was okay. Of course he was okay though! He was the Great Mushu!

Gaea nuzzled him again, just to be sure, and then trotted back over to Helios and the new little lamb. She nuzzled both to make sure they were okay, since Beast had thumped into them, and then went back over to Torini,
"We should watch these chicks!" she suggested to the other, "..Make sure nothing bad happens to them, 'n all. They're just babies! There are...there are...-bees- and things around here that could hurt 'em."

Helios was amused, more than anything else, by all the jostling going on. He chirped appreciatively when Gaea nuzzled him, and then rolled over to expose his belly to the morning sun-- his favourite pasttime. Mmm...so nice and snuggly warm! So was the little gryph next to him, really, though she seemed to be shivering. But she felt warm enough to him!

A cry, much like a gryph and unlike the bleating of a lamb escaped her as she tumbled. She reached out and bit something beside her, not hard, but enough to hurt. How dare you?! She cried out again. She was pushed from something warm and cozy, grr! She bleated for the warm creature, where'd ya go? This new one felt slightly like the old, but she was terrified it pushed her away form a warm thing!

Upon feeling the bite, the small chick bristled angrily, eyes flying open, only to close almost instantly, this time a snarl marring his growl; he too aimed to bite right back, however, unlike the lamb, it was probable his bite was slightly more hurtful, what with the fact needle sharp teeth protuded over his upper lip.

As soon as he'd bitten the soft... thing, Beast stumbled away, annoyed, frustrated and altogether as upset as he'd ever been, looking much like a ruffled up feline; his plumage anf fur had puffed up, making him look bigger than he truly was.

How DARE they touch him? How dare they HURT him?! Still hissing and snapping at the air, the strange Gryph backed out from under Torini's shadow, having decided that company merely lead to being harmed, pushed, shoved and alltogether... bothered, all of them being things he didn't quite appreciate in the least.

"Bye Gaea!" Torini called out when the Green gryph suddenly remembered she was late. She'd plucked up the yellow Gryph and run off.

Turning her attention back to the chicks, she noticed a bit of a commotion had started. A bit of snarling and hissing, and some whining was filtering it's way to her ears.

Aww... the horned, brown chick seemed a bit upset when she saw him. He'd crawled out from under her shadow after the strange white and pink gryph had bit him. It wasn't nice to bite others.

A little frown formed on her lips and she wandered over the the lamb-gryph, nudging it lightly with her nose. "No bites." she stated firmly, trying to sound her best like her den mother.

small tears trickled from the lamb's closed eyes, and the bleating and noise had stopped. What she had bitten, bit back and HARD! In slight shock form tumbling, and then being harmed she lay perfectly still on her side, a small ring of blood, in the shape of teeth, was on one of her legs.
She was glad to feel it depart, and not to smell it anymore, the sent had reminded her slightly of the soft thing earlier, but it was most certainly not the soft thing. Human, where are you? I'm tired, I want to sleep and cuddle in your warmth! She let out a mournful bleat and didn't move an inch, she wasn't moving until she felt people hands.

She felt the nudge of something larger, and a muffled, "no bites!" brought more fear to her, what if it was going to bite her too? She wasn't going to use her teeth ever again! She shivered more out of fear that anything.

The crying and sniffling reached the partially deaf ears of the chick, however, he seemed unmoved by it; in fact, he merely snorted twice, as if to voice something akeen to 'Your own fault, Thing! Shouldn't have decided to BITE me!', for after all, how dare it? How dare any of them be near him, anyhow? All he'd wanted to do was rest, however, everyone seemed keen to annoy him.

Another snort was produced, his pelt finally settling down around him, however, it was visible he was still bristling

Grumbling, Beast decided that perhaps if he looked away from everyone and alltogether ignored them... perhaps they'd ignore him right back! However, he knew not of Toirin's disposition and the fact she wished only to help him... his plan was bound to fail, no doubt. At any rate, he'd give it a try; thus why he curled up away from both Lamb and larger griff, snorting once as a muffled 'No bites' reached his ears.

It deserbed the scowling; It'd started it, not him... he'd be damned if he wasn't going to answer back; violence for violence. Strange mentality indeed, but then again... he was young, and inmature. Beast had a long way to go.

Torini felt a little bad scolding the tiny lamb-gryph. Sighing lightly she nudged it a bit more gently, as if offering condolences of some sort, as uncertain of it as she was...

The thing looked a little out of place.

Oh, an idea! Hopping up she rushed over to find Mushu, quickly snatching him up and dropping him back down next to Susan. Grinning she wagged her tail and puffed up proudly. She was a genius! Mushu could play with her!

Man, she was so good.

Suddenly AND AGAIN being pulled from his warm spot, Mushu yowled out as he was suddenly dropped next to another, ... wooly? Gryph. He could just tell Torini was beaming. RUINING HIS LIFE! As short as it was so far.. That's what she was doing though.

Snorting, he ignored her and turned his head into Susan's side. Maybe, MAYBE this one would be quiet. He hoped so. He could get some rest finally.

Content that Mushu was going to stay there, Torini turned around once more, eyeing the Beast. Tilting her head, she slowly wandered over. For something so tiny and small, it seemed awfully moody. She'd heard stories about moody Gryph's before. Getting into fights with others. But she'd never met one, least... she didn't think so.

Plopping down about a foot away from it, her head dropped to the ground as she stared at him. Seemed... harmless enough.

If Susan's eyes would ahve ben opened she would have blinked multiple times. First the harsh prod, then a tender one, and now SOMETHING was next to her. As it settled in she whimpered lightly, the feathers pressed against her made her think of the thing that had bit her. She slowly lifted her head to sniff it, pressing her nose close to it's ear, inhaling deeply. It wasn't the thing! She pushed against it excitedly a small exstatic bleat escaped and then she fell silent.

No such luck, it seemed, for no sooner had he padded two steps away from them all, and had settled down again, that he more felt that saw or heard Torini pad over. His ears flattened back even further against the nape of his neck, a warning hiss escaping his maw in an attempt to scare her away... after all, this time he was taking no chances; he was not about to let this new one bite him like the last. Beast was not about to trip over the same rock twice! Not him!

Scotting away slight, trying to make the distance between them further, the small chick turned to 'scowl' up at the larger female, looking quite wary, offput and on edge; his frame still bristled slightly, puffing up in warning, trying to voice out with signals what he could not with his real voice, a chirp here and there accentuating the whole stance.

Good god, he should've NOT traveled those five meters , earlier; the place he'd stumbled upon was no doubt something akeen his particular hell, what with all the howling, noise, movement and touching! Emphasis on the touching... what was with these things and trying to touch him? Was HE trying to touch THEM? I think not!

Well, it only made a little noise. Mushu seemed pretty happy about that. Nestling down, he attempted to drift off into sleep...

To no avail sadly. All that commotion, and all the tossing around had brought him to as awake as he could be. Snuffing lightly, he padded the wooly gryph a bit, trying to figure her out. She smelled, sorta like a gryph, but sort of not. There was a strange, and unfamilar smell around her.

He couldn't place it though. Flopping onto his back, he stretched out his paws, yawned rather loudly, and struck his tongue out to the sky.

My he was a grumbly little creature. Torini knew she ought to really leave him be.. but it wasn't right to leave a little one all by his little self! Her den mother always went on about the dangers of being alone. Not that she really paid much heed to those warnings.

But that was beside the point.

The point was, that Beast shouldn't be alone. The point was, Beast needed to be with others. Even if he didn't want to be. Slowly, Torini began to inch her way along the grass towards Beast. She didn't want to startle him.

"Suuuuussaaaannn!" a muffled voice from a farther away. She knew that voice, it was her human's voice! A little girl peeked out from behind a tree, "Susan?" she was still farther off in the distance, but Susan would know that voice anywhere, semi-deaf or not she knew her human's voice. The human stayed away from the gryphs, not wanting to startle them.

I'm coming! she thought and let out a long bleat. It had been to long of a day and all of the fluffy critters around her scared her, but also caught her interest. She'd miss the soft ones, maybe one day she'd seen them again? She however would not miss the biting-thing.

She rushed toward her human's voice, sniffing along the ground as she stumbled clumsily. She didn't move very fast, but rushed all the same.

~ A Quest for Sleep - Part 3 ~

Laying down peacefully in the long grass, Jasmine was trying to catch some sleep after hardly having any during her last nap. A particular Gryph was trying to stop her from doing so, but luckily she had a chance to right now. Stretching a little and groaning, she was unaware of the other's play.

Reno, being a hyperactive Hippogryph cub, was crawling as quietly as he could to the blue Gryph. She was fun to annoy, especially during nap times. Once he was close enough, he lay on his side next to her and started batting gently at her out stretched paws, earning himself a growl. Mewling happily, he continued to bat at her, shuffling his small body close to get better aim.

Growling more, the blue Gryph started batting back, looking quite annoyed. Why wouldn't he leave her alone?

Not so far away as another small Gryph baby, trying to catch some sleep of his own. The noise wasn't helping much.

Growling to himself, he curled up into a small ball and placed his paws on his ears as much as he could to block out the noise.

Torini was prancing about in the field, circling her little Mushu 'friend'. She'd taken a shine to the little red gryph, and had decided he'd be sticking around. Besides, she'd not seen a den mother for him anyways.

Where did they sleep!?

... All thoughts aside, she was pretty content, not that she was ever really unhappy though. Turning a circle she plunked her butt down on the ground and looked across the way. Squinting, she hopped back up on her feet and nudged Mushu.

"Look! Chicks!" she grinned, grabbing up Mushu by the scruff and heading over towards Kuja. The flamboyant looking chick she recognized from her flock. Seen him ... her... at least once or twice about.

Oh... oh WOE is Mushu. There he was, NAPPING LIKE A GOOD LITTLE GRYPH... when that stupid pink fluff of a female was SNATCHING HIM UP... again! What was her problem!? She was going to be in for it when he could motivate himself to use better motor functions!

Having decided he'd rested quite enough, for the following few hours at least, Beast could be found not far away from where the three chick lay, making his way towards them. Or trying to anyway, for he'd noticed it was rather hard to go anywhere when one was mostly blind, and mostly deaf; he'd found it was easy to stumble over rocks, and trip over weeds as he half walked, half crawled, half dragged himself around the place.

Not nearly dignified enough, the small chick pondered, but then again, it wasn't like he could do anything about it either, thus so, he moved onward till... he ran head first into something which was none other than Kuja, thought of course... Beast knew none of this. All what he knew was that he'd run head first (or horn first?) into something or other, and it was blocking his way. Not only that! But it was precventing him from going any further.

Well, damn.

A growl of frustration rang through him and though he attempted to push lightly against Kuja, he soon enough snorted and decided that perhaps THIS spot wasn't all that bad, and thus allowed himself to plop down there.

Hey... There was that horned baby again... the funny lookin' one from when she'd been with Gaea. Dropping Mushu with a bit of a 'thud' noise, she tilted her head and trotted over as Beast's horns dug into Kuja's side. Reaching down she nudged for him to move to the side a bit, hoping to deter an impaling.

OW! What sort of express ride was that? Dropped on the ground like trash. He was the GREAT Mushu... stupid gryph girl. The nerve of her, treating him so poorly.

Snuffing around, Mushu began to crawl along the ground, nose up in the air, looking for any scent that wasn't that pink furred tornado. Catching a scent not to far away, he began to struggle his way in that direction, hoping to ferret and escape.

Making his way through the grass, Mushu began to wheeze as Crik Kee and Nirtz flew above his head. As he was about to fall over from so much moving around, he found himself smacked up against a furry... something.

Letting himself fall against it, he nuzzled it lightly. Ah, a pillow! Perfect for Mushu! Mushu snorted lightly as Crik Kee poked his head, trying to let him know he was leaning on another Gryph.. but Mushu ignored the horsefly, not really caring.

Jasmine was annoyed as it, with Reno batting at her and now another Gryph had come to sleep on her. Growling and mewling loudly, she rolled so she could get a better glimpse of Mushu and bat him on the head with her paw, looking extremely annoyed. Why didn't Reno just play with this guy?

Mewling happily now that Mushu had joined them, Reno pounced the little blue chick and nipped playfully at the red Hypogryph's ear. This was turning out to be much fun!

HEY! NO FUN! Growling lightly himself, Mushu found himself being bapped and bit! Didn't they know? He was the almighty MUSHU. He would bring down the dishonour on them all...

When he could talk.

For now, though, he bunted his head into Jasmine's side, then pawed towards Reno. C'mon now, all he wanted was a little nap!

Jasmine whined loudly at being bucked. She just wanted a nap! Whimpering, Jasmine wriggled her way out from under the pair of Hippogryphs, quickly toddling off.

She didn't want to be near those rowdy boys! Why'd they always pick on her?

Reno however had other plans, pouncing and rolling over Mushu with an excited mewl before pacing after the blue Gryph. But seeing that Jasmine had hid herslef behind some long grass, Reno paused for a moment tilting his head questioningly. Turning, Reno quickly wernt for Mushu, him being the only other Gryph around, and batted him gently over the ear.

Head hitting the ground when Jasmine crawled away, Mushu let out a whine of agitation. But whatever, they seemed to leave, letting him curl into a tight ball. Yawning and taking in a nice stream of sunlight, Mushu began to relax.

At least, he had been about to. Just about to doze off, Mushu felt his ear swatted at. Whining out at what had done it, he reached over to bite at Reno, trying to make it known that you do not swat at him.

Quickly bouncing back a few steps, Reno grinned widely. Hehe this was a fun game! Rushng back, Reno batted again at Mushu's ear before rushing back, expecting a chase of some sort. He even mewled loudly to try and provoke the other chick.

Come on! Come play! You were napping the last time I saw ya!

Jasmine however had found a quiet place and had settled down, curling up to she was comfortable. Lovely, now she could nap away from loud boys.

No, Mushu had been TRYING to nap last time. He'd not been able to... due to a certain pink tornado. Regardless he was now being batted and swatted at like a powderpuff. Growling he tried to get up, but rolled over instead, lifting his back paws to try to kick Reno in the head.

Go away!

Getting caught by the kick a little, Reno whimpered and stumbled back. Ow! His head really hurt! Laying down, he placed his paws over his head and rolled around, hoping the pain would go away soon.

He couldn't to lay there waiting for the pain to creep away slightly before he rolled back onto his feet. Ok! No more mister nice Hippogryph!

Rushing towards the other chick, Reno pounced Mushu roughly before biting at his ears.

The pain... THE AG-O-NY! Mushu yelped as Reno bit his ear. Crying out he flailed weakly and tried to roll away from the annoying, bitey gryph.

Crik Kee and Nirtz kind of... blinked, looked at one another, then back to the chicks. This wasn't going to end well. They both figured they should likely do something, but.. neither of them really wanted to get near that mess.

Reno was growling himself as he clambered up on Mushu, pinning the Hippogryph to the ground. He shouldn't of kicked him in the head if he didn't want Reno's revenge!

Kuja, upon a rock, was looking over the edge of his rock slightly annoyed. The noisey Gryphs had woken him up from his own nap! Though, seeing the pair fight was quite entertaining.

~ Enter the Cad...bury Egg ~

A den mother's squack split the air as she prepared to land. More accuratley, braced to land as her eyes were panicked and her paws were flailing in a futile attempt to stop herself. From her mouth hung a baby gryph, and holding it had muffled her cry.

She crashed her head into a rock, the baby dropping
into an opening on it's side and he tumbled head over bum inside until he hit something.

It was warm and squishy like a baby, likely because it was. Cad squealed and rolled aside as best he could, grabbing his hind feet with the front paws as he did so, laughing and sputtering all the while.

"Fufufufufu..."

Oh... my.. God... IT WAS ON TOP OF HIM! NONONO!

Off Reno must get! NAP MUSHU MUST! Squirming around under Reno, the weight of the gryph, Mushu coughed a bit, sputtering agitatedly. Why was it so hard to get a little peace and quiet in these parts?

Kuja's eyes widened as suddenly something bumped into him. Flailing on the edge of his rock, Kuja grabbed from the nearest thing, the Hippogryph. But it didn't seem to be enough to keep him on the rock, so he indeed fell, bringing down the Gryph he was cling to down with him.

NOOO!!

Reno was too busy trying to keep Mushu pinned to the ground, a grin on his face. But he didn't notice the pair of Hippogryphs when it was too late.

When they landed on him and Mushu, Reno gave out a rather loud yelp of pain. Well, this wasn't much fun anymore.

Cad felt a tug as the thing he had bumped into grappled him, tugging him in some direction. This would be fun, sdo he tumbled towards it, purring as he rolled forward, down a small slope and into the air. He had fallen off the rock along with Kuja and tumbled under it.

More rolling! Yeay! Cad's giggle renewed itself and his sides began to hurt. ... Friends!

AIR! NO AIR! Mushu wheezed as two more gryph's piled down on top of him. Dark... so dark... light... fading....

No wait... that was Crik Kee in his face. Mushu swatted at the Horsefly and wriggled around. C'mon gryph's! Get off!

Reno gave a noise as though he was gonna be sick, but it was actually the air being squeezed out of his lungs. Now he knew how Mushu felt! Wriggling as much as he could, he tried his best to get out of this situation with two more Gryph's on top of him.

Kuja himself was also struggling to get out of this situation. It didn't help that the Gryph's under him wouldn't keep still and the one on top should get off him!!

It was ruining his fur and clothes! He even growled threateningly at the Gryph on top to motivate him to move.

There was a great deal of movement below him. His friend had more friends hiding under the rock, and he had found them! Cad squealed excitedly and batted his paws like a drum on Kuja. He thought he had won the finding game.

A
growl came form beneath him and he growled playfully back, bouncing his head off of Kuja's back, a silly little headbutt, but nowhere near enough to hurt.

I like games.

Grunting and prodding at the mound above him, Mushu's demeanor was soured. Hullo... dragongryphsquishedunderamoundofchicks.. This was not part of the brochure...

Turning his little head to Crik Kee he whined at the Horsefly as if to say "Do Something!"

Crik Kee nodded and flew up by Cad's head, flittering there and motioning with his head for the little one to roll off, nudging gently in case he couldn't see him.

Kuja gave a suprised yelp, it didn't hurt but why was the Grpyh not getting off!?

Growling more, Kuja rolled as much as he could on top of the others below him, starting to push Cad off the pile. He didn't look amused one bit.

Reno was just lay there, grunting when it became more uncomfortable. They had to get off him eventually.

Something small was nudging him but he couldn't tell waht. All he could feel was a pair of rapidly fluttering wings as it made contact with his side. Maybe he shouldn't lay on his friends anymore, or maybe it was their turn! Cad started to roll and tumbled off the pile of friends he had made.

"UUUUUUUU!"

Well, some of the weight was lifted off his body. Getting a bit more breath in him, Mushu suddenly found himself face to tail with Cad's butt.

EIW GRYPHON BUTT! Get it away, get it A-WAY!

Whining and flailing a bit more under Reno and Kuja, Mushu snorted and snuffed, wanting away. He'd take the pink tornado now!

Cad was filled with glee as he landed near one of his new, squirming friends; a red, cranky one. Unsure of what to do, he pushed himself up as best he could and turned, setting his body down on Mushu's head, paws wrapped around it. Friend hug!

What?! NO! That was not what was supposed to be happening. The lights! They were gone again! NO!!! The humanity of it all!

Whining Mushu pushed at Cad, trying to get him to let go of him. He felt Reno slide off him, about time. Now if he could just get rid of this other menance, all would be good!

Sat upon his rock again, instead of going to sleep, Kuja proceeded on trying to make himself look good again. All the while watching the goings on. They were very annoying.

Watching the play, Reno wanted in on the action again. Moving to ther other side of Mushu and grabbed his tail with his mouth gently and started tugging with playful growls.

Pushed! Cad was shoved into a sitting position. A real one like what the grownups sat like! Cad was so happy, and his friend wanted to play, it seemed. He banged his head into Mushu, playfully pushing at him.

I wonder where my other friend went..

Getting tired, and feeling all the weaker from it, Mushu relented to the pushing, tugging, nipping and everything going on around him. Letting out a soft whimper of dismay and loss, he sighed and let himself flop out.

Tired.. so... so tired...

Wondering why the Gryph was no longer reacting, Reno toddled his way over to where Cad was to take a look at Mushu. Blinking, he joined in the gentle head butting to see if the other would react.

It wasn't as fun if they didn't react!

Aw. Friends get tired sometimes.

"There you are!"

A cry came from outside of the rock as the Den mother that had brought him there finally found him. Quickly her head reached in and snapped him up, setting him down on the rock next to Kuja.

Friend! Cad hugged Kuja, not listening ot what the Den Mother was saying. She was kinda silly anyhow.

"I was looking all over for you. I went to the woods over there and..."

She was a silly lady..

Cad was again snapped up and the Den Mother took to the skies having forgotten where she was going when they had first left.

Hey! One was gone! GOOD! Maybe he could get some sleep now, although.. that Reno one was bopping at him now with his head too. Mushu waved a paw at Reno then curled up, indicating it was sleep time. He'd had a busy day! And oh so few naps...

Suddenly being hugged after he had straightened himself up, Kuja did not look pleased. But luckily THAT one was being taken away. Huffing on his rock, Kuja got up, turned tail and left.

He would find a better place to keep well groomed.

Grunted in an annoyed manner, Reno started toddling off insearch for Jasmine. All these Gryphs were boring!

~ I CAN SEE! Part 1 ~

Finally, Mushu had managed to get some sleep in. The pink Tornado seemed to still be off with that horned beast, so he was safe for the moment. Stretching his back, he let out a soft yawn, face whiskers spinning outwardly from the breath.

It was such a nice morning. The grass was so green, the sky so nice and blue....

Blue? Green? Wait what!?

"AH CAN SEE!!!!!!!!!!" Mushu suddenly exclaimed.

"AND AH CAN TALK!" He bounced once in excitement.

He could see, he could talk.. and apparently, he could stand up on his own four feet!

That's when he fell over. Too much, too fast, but that was besides the point. The GREAT Mushu, was now able to see, speak and stand. Oh yah, he was awesome.

Susan blinked, wait..blinked..that was new! AS she opened her eyes for the very first time she realized she was not in the field, this ground didn't smell like the field, and where are the other wooly things? She glanced up, feeling disoriented, she'd of course never used this new sense before. She spotted a large red thing, oh goodness! What if it tries to eat me? She could hear what he was saying too! Wow, things were so clear right now!

"Go away!" she bleated, but wait, that really didn't sound like her voice at all! "Don't bite me!"

Go Away? Go away? Hey! That was his line. Snuffing Mushu turned his head towards the sound, spying a funny looking wooly gryph.

Least, he thought it may be a gryph. Maybe is was a cow.

"Go away?!" he called back over, "Well that ain't very nice you know." his little face formed a frown, "Ah don't bite cows."

"Hey! I'm not a cow, you thing you! At least.. I don't think I am?" she whimpered back, taking a step forward toward him. she dragged her belly along the ground, so that he would see she was no threat.
She was in such a huff with being able to see that she didn't realize the beautiful day around them, the only thing she could so..no wanted to see was this creature. He seemed too mean to be the thing she snuggled..but maybe?

"Maybe you're a cow!" She snorted back and then fell silent.

"Cow!? Do I look like a cow to you? No. I'm a dra... er... Gryphon. Gryph-on. Got it? Good. Now... why are you draggin' your belly around like that? You're gonna get grass stains all over your pretty white fur? Is that fur? Ah well it doesn't matter." he sat his butt down on the ground, paws in front of him.

"I am the Great Mushu..." he beamed, "Who're you?" he snorted once, letting his face whisker fly out to the sides again.

She blushed furiously, "I'm Susan. I think I'm a lamb.. I've heard that word before! My human takes care of me.. so I think I'm lost."
She stood up right and quickly covered the distance to sit beside him. Curiosity got the better of her and she started to sniff him vigorously, pressing her nose against his side.

"I know your scent!" the blush deepened and the pink around her nose and cheeks became dark red.

"Hey!" Mushu yelped then flailed a bit, being careful not to actual smuck the 'lamb'... whatever that was.

He still figured she was a cow, but he'd not mention it again because she seemed to get all dramatic about it. Silly cow.

"Your nose is cold. Don't you know it's not nice to be goin' and stickin' your nose into other people's sides? You should ask first. Manners, manners manners." he crossed his arms over his chest, wriggling slightly...

Then promptly losing his balance and falling onto his back. Well, that hadn't gone as planned. But not one to be put off, he turned his head to Susan.

"I meant to do that." wriggling around so that he was back on his paws, nose to nose with Susan he grinned toothily.

"Anyways Susan, it's nice to meet you. Did you say you were lost? Well... seeing as I am the great Mushu and all... I could probably help you find your... whatever it is."

"Cry your pardon, are you alright?" She looked at him with concern as he fell and regained his balance. "I lost my human, my person that feeds me and rubs me and well she doe! Don't you have one?" She smiled thinking of her human, and suddenly realized she'd be able to see her! Wow! How great would that be?

"I think I could find her, she's tall and walks on two legs and..hmmm...

What's so great about you?"

"..." Did she just question his greatness? This silly cow thing questioned the great Mushu?

"Well, just look at me! You should be able to tell my greatness just from that. Of course, if you can't there's got to be something wrong with you. You see these?" he pointed to the horns on his head, "No one's got these around here... and you see these?" he motioned, pointing out his whiskers, "Ain't nobody got whiskers like mine." he stopped a moment, pulling a paw up in thought.

"Least I don't think so." he shook his head.

"Anyways Susan, trust me. I can take care of you! We'll find your.. hoo man... How hard can it be to find a tall, two legged thing?" he put a paw around the little sheep gryph.

"Besides," he motioned to Cri Kee who was flying about them, "you see this little guy? His name is Cri Kee... an' he's a lucky horsefly. So no worries!"

"Erm.. I don't even know what whiskers are! For all I know yout're tricking me to eat me!" With that she let out a soft bleat of a whimper and looked up at Mushu, "Pormise you wont eat me? I promise I don't taste very good! But if it do ya, then eat me... I guess."
She was small and unsure of everything, this thing looked like her but wasn't the same, he had horns! She had..well she had wool.

"Lucky huh?" she whispered glancing up at the horsefly.

"You don't know what whiskers are for? Oh my GOSH woman..." he shook his head, "I already told you I don't eat cows, so no worries, I'm not going to eat you. Look at all that fluff. Does that look like it'd taste good? No. No it doesn't. " he stomped his foot once to emphasize his point.

Sighing and turning his attention to Cri Kee he nodded, "Yup. He's a lucky bug." his grin was bright, "We'll find your hoo man, no problem!" he nodded then began to trek forward, suddenly stopping.

"Any idea which way you think they may have gotten lost at?" obviously the human was the one who got lost. If she was a gryphon... cow.. then it couldn't be her fault.

His tail wagged a bit, this was a good way to prove how great he truely was! No one would question that after this!

~ I swear... it's gotta be Sugar Cane ~

Wandering around the central plains, Torini flicked her head back and let the wind catch in her wings. Grinning, the soft feathers flew out behind her, one letting loose from where it lay and spiraling backwards...

Then smacking a certain, small, red gryph straight in the face.

"HEY!" a small, annoyed voice yelled up, "Watch where you're molting woman. Don't you know that people can get hurt out here?" Mushu huffed and snorted in agitation, pulling the feather from over his eyes, sending it over to the ground.

"Oh Mushu, you're fine." Torini laughed, "C'mon, let's go find some people."

"Please stop talking..."

"And then, the sun looked down and said 'Hello there!' because it was a good day, and you know, clouds are the sun's best friend, because they-"

"Please stop talking..." at this point, the Beast groaned and pondered sticking his head under the water of the river that lay to his left; that way he'd perhaps be able to drown this girl's voice. What was wrong with her anyhow? she'd been following him on a random basis for two whole days; how she managed to find him time and time again when she was obviously not exactly 'sane' was beyond the male. All he knew was that she wanted her to please, PLEASE stop talking.

Ryuki however, seemed oblivious to the smaller gryph's pleas, and kept right on going; sitting down sprawled, the female was making sure to flap her wings now and then, "Pop goes the weaseeeeeel~~!" she sang songed loudly, her small tail thumping the ground bellow her.

Strangely familliar voices caught his ears though and it was then the Beast raised his head from the ground, where he'd had it for the past hour, paws covering it, "PLEASE stop TALKING!" the words were by now roared and though they did little to nothing to hinder the cheshire-gryph's sing songing, they were no doubt heard by Torin and Mushu.

Stopping dead in his tracks, Mushu blanched, "MONSTER! MOOOOONNNSSTTTERR!" he cried out as the roar passed over the plains.

Torini suddenly felt something latched onto her leg. "Hey!" she looked down, "Mushu!" sighing she shook her head.

"Mushu it's not a monster..." she turned her head, squinting in the direction the voice came from, "It's... Beast... and some...one I dunno." she shrugged.

"Guess she hasn't learned that yapping his ear off doesn't work." she giggled and looked back down at Mushu. "You can let go now."

"Eheh.. yah... Uh... I was just makin' sure you were gonna be alright." Torini snorted and rolled her eyes as Mushu let go of her leg and fell into step with her as they began to make their way towards the odd pair.

"No, no, no, the weasel never said 'please stop talking', it just went POP!" came the cheerful chrip; not only was it obvious Ryuki lacked the ability to be frightened by such trivial things as roaring, but it was obvious she was less than moved by the odd looking gryph beside her. But then again, that might just be because she was perhaps... even further odd than he was.

"UGGGGGGH!" allowing his eyes to roll back, the Beast did all what he could do... which was simply falling backward in a bit of a melodramatic fit; if she didn't stop right about now, he feared he too was going to go slightly insane. Hissing under his breath, he placed clawed paws over his ears, covering them in an attempt to block out the purple cheshire's words, which not only made no sense to him, but were pure and random babble.

The insanity he was being put through! this was no doubt a test from the gods.

As Mushu and Torin drew nearer however, Ryuki's maw closed shut, her pink eyes focussing on the newcomers before a grin spread across her face, "Hey! Hey!" she chirped as she suddenly stood up and practically ran towards them, launching herself into the air in an attempt to tackle down the red gryph, "Heeeey!!"

"Oh, please DO take her," the Beast's voice held an almost pleading tone, quite out of character for him, but he felt he was going to go insane if he spent so much as one more minute by the strange female, "She's all yours, really. For free."

"Do you really think we ought to be going over theEEEEEEAAAHHHH!!!!" Mushu yelled out as he found himself with a larger, and very purple, female gryph on him.

A bit dazed, for onces, Mushu didn't say much of anything except for the fact that he simply stared at Ryuki.

Wondering why Beast was making such pleas, Torini quickly realized it as a zip moved passed her head and landed on her little companion. The two horseflies which had been following the pair sort of, floated there, not sure what to do.

"Uh..." Torini turned to look at Beast, offering an awkward, sympathetic grin.

"Helloooooo~~" the female's voice had a clear sing song tone as she moved her head left and right to what seemed to be... a rythm only she could hear, "Who areeeee you? You have horns! I want horns too, can I have yours?" amusingly enough after this had been said, Ryuki closed her mouth and simply lay there, partially on top of the younger gryph, her nose against his, tail wagging much like that of a hyper active puppy.

The beast on the other hand merely offered Torin a blunt expression, a brow arching; there was no need for him to explain anything, was there? Ryuki had allready done so herself, in her own strange way of talking, "You can't blame me," he said with a slight snort before he rolled his eyes and looked away; oh, he DID pity Mushu, but damned if he was going to expose himself... to THAT purple whirlwind to do so. He'd seriously rather toss himself into a pit full of vicious monsters.

At least he knew how to fight those. Ryuki was something beyond him, "Keep her. Really."

A pause from the cheshire female, "I'm not for sale," she said suddenly, looking blankly up, quite confussed.

"You are now."

"Oh.... okay!" came the chirp, "I'll be a fruit then! They sell nicely I'm sure! Or PIE! Who doesn't like pie?" a groan, obviously produced by the beast, followed Ryuki's words.

"Uh... no. You can't have my horns. See, as you can very well see... they are attached to my SKULL!" Mushu flailed from beneath Ryuki.

"Get, offa... ME!" he huffed out. This was not how he had pictured his day going.

"Eheh. Somehow I don't think it would matter if we bought her or not..." Torini wandered over and sat down next to Beast, watching Mushu flip out at the purple gryph girl.

Well, maybe he'd wear himself out and go to sleep. She'd liked him better when he was small.

He didn't talk so much then.

"May...be..." Wish yawned and let herself roll up to TrueHeart's side. Snuggling against the larger gryph's warm fur she just gave a half nod, and slowly let herself drift off to sleep. Dreaming of horseflies and a day when Grumpy would be less like his namesake.

~ The GIR Incident ~

Wiggling his butt in the air, Mushu gave a light snort and rolled around in the grass. He had found a nice, warm, sunspot, just for him! Cri Kee was buzzing around in a circle above him. He had just woken up from a nice nap.

There didn't seem to be any other gryph's around today. Not that he noticed anyways. Torini had left him be, for the time being anyways. He wasn't going to complain. It seemed every gryph he'd met so far had had it in for him.

Well, except for that nice cow Susan.

Gir is waddling off on his own with Piggy sitting atop of his head. Humming obnoxiously loud as he sways his head from side to side in tune with this carelessly thrown together song, he is marching at the same time, looking incredibly silly and estranged, but he doesn't seem to care about the opinions of others.

His little eyes spy something very interesting, something that could provide some minutes of fun. This is Mushu and he is quick to run over, leap, and dive on top of him!

Huh... there seemed to be a small, black shadow covering Mushu's sunspot. Odd. And it was getting bigger... bigger...

Oh no.

"AAAHHHHHH!!!" Mushu cried out as GIR came tumbling into him. Looking up the radioactive green coloured Gryph... with really really weird eyes, Mushu tried to scramble out from under him.

"GET OF OF ME YOU MUTATED POTATO! DON'T YOU HAVE ANY MANNERS!?" he cried out.

"POTATO!" he echoes loudly as Piggy flaps its wings and soars up into the air to avoid the tumbling.

Gir, meanwhile, clings and rolls around with Mushu, screaming in laughter, biting at his ears and whiskers, tugging.

"OW! OW! HEY! WOULD YOU GET OFF!" Mushu grimaced as the 'ugly mucas coloured' gryph started biting at his ears and whiskers.

"Do I look like a chew toy to you!? NO!" he fumed and began to bat at Gir.

"Piggy back ride! I WANT A PIGGY BACK RIDE!" he shouts into one of his ears as he jerks at them again. "PIGGY BACK RIDE!"

"I am also not a PIGGY!" He was going to go deaf in that ear at this rate! Alas, poor Mushu... the things a dragon had to endure.

He began bucking around, trying to get Gir off him, as he yelled at the strange, and most likely mentally challenged, Gryph.

Gir manages to hold on for most of the bucking but is eventually thrown off. When he is, he goes sailing through the air, that squealing laughter echoing out of his throat even after he hits a nearby tree with a loud thud. He slides down to the earth, but appears unphased as he gets to his feet, gives a hard shake and runs back at Mushu.

When Gir went sailing from his back, Mushu got up, snorted, and began to wander away. Obviously quite pleased that 'The Great Mushu' had disposed of the annoyance.

He hardly heard the steps behind him. Until it was too late. Turning his head his eyes widened as the green gryph was running back at him.

It had to be some sort of... of... DEMON! Yes! That was it!

"DEMON SPAWN!" He cried out, turning head and bolted away.

~ Icy Cold Grass Necks ~

It was about mid-afternoon and Mushu was wandering around teh fieleds, ambling on to Cri Kee on an assortment of various topics. Non the least of which, was to disclude, simply, how awesome he truely was and that Cri Kee really ought to appreciate the fact that he could travel with such an amazing Gryph!

The sun felt warm on his back as he turned towards a small stream. Not the big one that most gryph's seemed to flock to, but a small branching one. Dipping his tail in, he quickly recoiled it.

Much too cold.

Not too far from where Mushu was, at the same stream, there was another gryph, who didn't seem to mind the cold water too much as she stepped in it in one movement. An adult, probably her mother, watched on to make sure nothing happened as the young gryph waddeled in the water. Spotting Mushu, she smilled and swam over to him.

"Hey ! Do you want to come swimming with me ?" She offered.

Turning his head towards the sound of this new voice, Mushu jumped back as a bit of water lept over the edge and towards his paws.

"Uh... no thanks." Wow, this gryph (yes, he realizes she's a gryph, and not a cow) is pretty shiney. Shiney like a... a...

A really shiney stone.

"It's a bit too... cold... dontcha think?" he furrowed his brow in questioning.

Aurora did not seem insulted in the least by his refusal, swimming a short distance to the left before getting out and, not really bothering to shake the water from herself, she moved a bit closer to him.

"No really." She answered, bright green eyes on him. "...But then, everything is cold where I come from. So maybe im just used to it."

"Oh." he tilted his head, letting his ears flop around before grinning.

"Ah... am Mushu. This... is Cri Kee. Mah horsefly." he motioned with his muzzle towards the deep blue and purple horsefly.

"Where ah come from it's not really cold... not really warm either. I suppose it's kinda average. Like it here though, don't get none of that bad weather crap goin' on. Well, least not anytime I've been here." he let himself fall to his back haunches, sitting down.

"What's your name there shiney?"

"That sounds like a great place !" She smilled, sitting. "It's always cold home, but I still like it. Playing in the snow is fun ! The weather isn't that bad I guess, but we do get huge snowstorms. Those are just nasty."

Shiney ? This had to be the first time she heard that one. People usually called her pretty, expecially her mother's friends. It got kinda embarassing at times.

"Aurora." She chirped, glancing at Cri Kee for a moment. "Mamam told me a bit about horseflies, but this is the first time I see one !"

"Aurora? Aww... that's a pretty little name isn't it. I like Shiney better though. So I'm gonna call you that anyways." He grinned. He didn't mean it in any rude way. He just was just being a bit blunt today.

"Yah.. Cri Kee's pretty okay. He's tricky though, let me tell you! Oh yes. He can trick even the GREAT Mushu." he paused then leaned close to whisper.

"He doesn't know I just let him though. Don't wanna hurt his feelin's or nothin."

She couldn't help but giggle a bit. "If you want do, I don't mind." The nickname was amusing her, and well, it was still better than all the compliments she was used to... she figured it wouldn't get as annoying as well.

"Really ? He doesn't look tricky to me." She admitted, peering at the horsefly some more. She giggeled again when she heard the whisper, but said nothing that would let the secret out.

"'Great' Mushu ?" She turned her gaze back to him. "Did you go on adventures and all that ?! That's so cool !"

"Oh... no... I know he doesn't look tricky... but if you stare into those tiny, beady, souless eyes! You'll see it." he shifted his glance back and forth.

He listened as she reitterated his greatness, then brought on about his adventuring. Oh yah. He puffed right up and grinned smugly.

"Oh yah. I go on adventures all the time. This one time, I took a cow with me." he recalled happily at the time he'd gone off with Susan.

"That Cow and I went adventuring alllll over the place!" a bit of a white lie, the Cow's human had come to get it before they could really go anywhere.

"There's soooo much to see around here. And ah plan on seeing it all! Course, bein' the Great Mushu, can't really expect much else ah suppose." He chirped proudly hopping up onto his feet.

She seemed to have completely forgotten about the horsefly as she listened to Mushu tell of his tale, eyes almost sparkling.

"wow, that's so great ! Can I come with you sometimes ? Can I, can I ?!" That sounded like so much fun, and with Mushu, she would have nothing to fear, right ?

"...But.. what's a cow ?"

"A cow." he started slowly, "is a funny lookin creature. With biiiiig pinkish eyes and wooly like white fur. But it's not really fur at all!" oh, how wrong he was. But not that you could tell him that. Oh no. Forever and a day would that poor little sheep in his mind... be a cow.

"Well..." he thought about Aurora's request, as though he was mulling over the great many pros and cons of taking on a ... sidekick.

"Maybe someday. But y'gotta be STRONG!" he puffed up his chest, "FAST!" he runs a quick circle around her, "And most importantly... y'gotta listen to everythin' ah tell ya." he settled in front of her again.

"Big pinkish eyes, wooly fur that isn't fur, white... Gotcha !" She comitted this the memory in order to reconise one should sher ever see one.

She did seem a bit saddened by the 'maybe', but hey, that was better than a no ! She jumped on her paws, smilling. "Mama says im fast... Im not really strong, but ill do my best ! But you'll keep me safe, right ?"

Well, she was listening to him. And she wasn't making fun of him... part of Mushu wondered if she were plotting something deep, and dark, and not so cool...

But she was too shiney to be like that!

Then she bit into his ego.

"Of course ah'd keep you safe Shiney! Ah am the Great Mushu after all! Who better to keep you safe from harm than me?" he questioned as though her inquiry was almost insulting.

"Ah bet I could take out a whole den of lions!" he beamed, "Ah'd show you but it'd be just a bit too much for your earthly mind to handle."

"I knew it !" She chirped hapilly. "I don't have anything to fear when im with you !" She said with the kind of eyes that could melt an iceberg. The idea that he might not be as he said never crossed her mind.

But then she blinked. "...What's a lion, Mushu ?" She asked, hoping he didn't think she was stupid or anything like that.

He didn't really think Shiney was stupid. No. He just realized that everyone wasn't as knowledgeable as he was.

"Lions." he started, "are really big cats. These cats have grass growing out from around their necks." Grass?

"And they have enourmous claws! Bigger than you or me even!" he stretched out his body as though to show the length.

"Why, ah bet they could just eat you up in one gulp..."

Her eyes whidened a bit, and she did look a bit scared as the other gryph went on with this explaination. "Im sure glad we have none of this at home !" She glupped. "It does sound really scary..." Indeed it would be for the little one, but then she pondered something.

"Why do they have grass growing on them ? To hide better ?" She couldn't help but look around nervously for a suspicious patch of grass.

"That's exactly it." Mushu began in.

"Laying in the deep, tall grass they use their neck grass to blend in... and suddenly BAM!" He jumped forwards towards Aurora, landing nose to nose with her.

"They gonna eatchoooooo...."

"EKK !" She couldn't help it, not really scared of Mushu's movements, but of the idea he was conveying. "I don't wanna be eaten ! I bet I don't taste good at all." She pondered a moment, then grinned. "But no lion will eat me while you're here ! You'll just smash them !"

"Yer too shiney to probably taste good. You're right there. But lions ain't the smartest creatures, if you know what I mean." he cocked his head and gave a toothy grin.

"Haha! Exactly! I think you and I are gonna get along really well Shiney."

"I bet they arn't, if they'll try anything with you around." She laid down again, running a paw in the water with a smile on her muzzle. "I like you too, Mushu. You know so many things. I hope I can know alot of things too one day."

Uh... well. That was strange now. Waddling over to Aurora he settled down and nodded.

"Course they aren't. Stupid grass necks." he muttered half to himself, half to his new friend.

"Aww..." he looked over and nipped at her ear, "you'll learn a lot of things too. Just stick with me kid, you'll learn a lot." he grinned.

Whether what she'd learn from him was true or not.. was still up for debate. Well, at least most of what he said was based on truth.

...

Just horribley elaborated and twisted to fit his current situation. Y'gotta make due with whatcha have!

She flicked her ear a bit, giggeling, and visibely used to it from the other gryphs of her flock.

"I will, then." She smilled hapilly, her tail going back and forth in a calm manner. At least she wasn't one of those hyper chicks that ran everywhere at once... ...Even if she did do it sometimes.

Mushu nodded his head and Cri Kee swooped over and landed atop of Aurora. He made a few noises at her, then swivelled his antenae.

Mushu grinned, "Ah think Cri Kee likes you."

Aurora blinked, then laughed a bit, unable to see the horsefly, but feeling the little paws on her fur.

"I guess he does ! Where did you find him ?" It was a bit obivious that the shiny chick would apreciate the presence of one as well.

"Actually, I'll level with yah here on this one Shiney. Ah have no idea where ah got him. He's just been around for as long as ah I can remember." he scratched his head and looked at the horsefly.

"Ah think he just followed me home. But ah'm not really sure." he poked at the horsefly which seemed to get annoyed by it.

"He says he's a lucky bug."

"Of course he is." Maybe she could find out where they come from... Then she could teach Mushu something, too ! That was a nice idea.

But then, the little gryph felt a pair of eyes on her, and she sighed, getting up. "I think I need to go now, mama's waiting. Ill see you, okay ?"

And then she was off, crossing the stream before her mother could become impatient and come fetch her herself.

~ AH AM SURROUNDED! ~

Today had been a long day. The unstable weather had really seemed to bother Felicity a bit. You couldn't really blame her, though- going from drizzling to sunshine to pouring to sunshine to thunder, then back again to sunshine wasn't really her choice of weather conditions. Though, like the little cheerful, resilient chick she was, Felicity had gotten over the poor weather and was pleased once again when the sun came out to warm up her tiny body. As a matter of fact, she was more then pleased. For one reason or another, the little chick was unreasonably estatic. She was just in a great mood! Her litle body waggled about as she crawled about the soft grass.

Day by day, Felicity noticed herself getting stronger. Her short legs could carry her with more ease now- even if she was still horribly coordinated. Her ears were swiveling and perking constantly now: noises were no longer faint, low buzzes, but now slightly distinct mumbles and whispers. This was so exciting! The one thing that the Gryphon couldn't wait to happen, though, was for her eyes to open. She wanted to see the world around her!

She was patient, though. The little newborn would wait. For now, she would wait. Besides, she had all the time in the world, didn't she? Suddenly a burst of happiness swept over her tiny body, and she let out a series of suprisingly ear soothing trills and chirps, her whole body waggling as she seemed to dance around the field. Today wasn't so bad after all, she decided.

Trotting happily along, Mushu held his head up high, looking like a proud little infant. There was a bemused grin sliding across his face. Today was a good day. Oh yes. He'd gotten through an entire nap undisturbed, the weather was nice, and Cri Kee wasn't really being all too annoying today.

So all in all, it was off to a good start. He stretched out his back as the warm sun beat down on it, and suddenly swiveled his ears about. Was there something moving in the grass? Indeed there was.

Maybe it was a lion! Grassnecks! Oh no!

Turning he began to creep forwards, peeking over the little hedge of grass. Down below was a small, and really pale looking baby gryph.

Well... at least it wasn't a cow or a lion.

Duke was the one who would make his appearance. With chicks nestled on the ground around him, he was laying on top of a flat bed rock, the perfect place to have a little sun. His long tail sways behind him as he observes everything around him, his ears swiveling, his eyes paying close attention to what was happening. After all, he did need to take care of the chicks, and any who made the mistake of getting too close would probably finds themselves faced with a very angry father.

His large wings stretch then nestle against him before he turns his head to spy the little red Hippogryph running around. He pays no mind; so long as it's other Hippogryphs then he was very willing to relax, but even then one should still be cautious.

Persephone, herself, was curled up against the rock where she had been brought. Her little white coat was dirty but she didn't care, obviously; she couldn't even see it! Her nose was nestled against her forepaws, snoozing contently. The sounds all around her were still dulled out too much for her to notice unless they were extremely loud and extremely close to her.

Aurora was slowly trotting down, not really noticing too much as she walked ahead of her mother, who held another chick as they walked. This one wasn't from her flock, she knew, but he felt a bit familiar. Her mother had told her she had agreed to watch over him for the day since he was the son of a friend she had in another flock.

Setzer was mrring sightly, as if a bit upset at all the movements going on. How did they expect him to SLEEP like this ?! Hmph ! He tried so hard to open his eyes to see where they where going, but it was a no go.

Helios frolicked cheerfully around the central area. He had seen Gaea the day before with one of her new chicks, and now he spotted Duke with the others! Gleefully, he trotted over to them and sniffed at each gently-- he didn't want to disturb them or anything.

"Hi Duke!" he wiggled his tail happily at the older gryph.

Guinivere lifted her head, hearing things around her. She tried to open her eyes, but couldn't get them open more then a crack, and besides that, the light was far to blinding for her anyway.

She cried out. Shouldn't her brother be around her somewhere? Where waaaas he?

Rumaging through the long grass, Kuja was looking for the rock he normally napped on, but he couldn't seem to find in anywhere. Snorting angrily, Kuja held his head high as though in a mood with the grass itself. How dare his rock be moved!

Without even relising it, the small chick seem to bump into something soft and red.. And bigger then he was. He was even knocked back to the ground witha small squeak.

And then suddenly, almost as if out of nowhere, several new scents and noises flooded Felicity's senses. She squealed from suprise- she'd been too busy dancing and wiggling to have noticed them earlier! Squeaking gently, her little chirp laced with mild apprehension, the little Gryph lifted her nose to the air. Oh my! There were tons of other Gryphs around the the meadow today. That was certainly exciting... Though, in spite of Felicity's slight disappointment at not quite being able to physically see all of them- surely she could sniff and bump into them!

Deciding that would be the best choice, the little girl swiveled around a bit, her velvety muzzle bringing itself to the sky as best she could, taking in all the foreign scents around her. There seemed to be something just behind her! Yipping softly with excitement, the naive chick scuttled backwards before twirling her body around gracelessly. She didn't have much coordination. Felicity headed in Mushu's direction, pleased that one of the many Gryphs around was right behind her!

And then it happened. Minding his OWN business (even though he was spying on the baby gryph) something came and bumped into his side.

"AUGH!" he cried out, turning his head to see a... weird lookin gryph. What was up with that hair? And that outfit? Why the heck would any self respectin' gryph be goin' around in that sort of get up?

Man he must have a cruel den mother.

"Helloooooo.... bigger Gryph here... watch where ya goin'." he hrmphed...

Then realized it was another baby gryph. Opening his mouth to say something he suddenly realized there was something else coming close to him. Turning his head he spied that little paley baby coming up on his haunched.

Oh no.

This likely wasn't going to end well.

His ears twist and his head tilts down when he spies the approaching ball of yellow fluff that belongs to Helios. He offers the boy a friendly smile upon his approach.

"Hello, Helios. How are you?"

Persephone's ears twitch as she feels something coming near, enough to draw her out of the slumber she was in. She tilts her head up, chirruping faintly at her father and then in direction of where she assumes Helios to be.

Aurora couldn't help but notice Mushu's predicament, and couldn't help but giggle as well.

Ah, well. The great Mushu wouldn't need her help to repeal the chick invasion, yes ?

So, she instead turned to waddle torward the other voice she reconized in the pack. "Hellliooosss~" She called in a sing-song voice, only noticing Duke and his chick when she got there, and stopped.

"Oh, im sorry... Do you mind if I come closer, mister ?"

Upon noticing a gathering of gryph of all ages, Aurora's mother finally let Setzer down. He aknowledged this with a small huff. About TIME !

His grumpyness seemed to be replaced by cusiosity, as he started to crawl to the biggest source of sound - that is, Mushu and the other chicks.

Helios smiled,
"I'm doing great, Duke! and..." he blinked, turning around at the voice. He spotted Aurora and beamed!

"Hi!" he cried, trotting over to her and giving her a nuzzle,
"You're so big now!"

The small white and black chick turned her head left and right. Maybe if she moved she'd find where he went...

She started crawling in a random direction. Heerrrree brother brother brother...

She stopped suddenly, squeaking loudly as she ran into the front leg of a bright red (although she didn't know the color) object.

Finally looking at the older Gryph, Kuja looked rather stunned for a moment as the other spoke, ears pricked up. He didn't understand fully what he said, but the tone he did not like.

No one talked to him like that!

Scowling in an odd way, he clambered onto all fours again, getting ready to head but the red one. But his head pricked back up again as he recognised the white Gryph coming closer. Or... atleast it was similllar to the last one.

Snorting, he nudged Mushu's leg moodily before setting off to the white Gryph. Maybe she moved his rock!

Nothing could spoil Felicity's mood, it seemed. Not even the reappearence of the unfriendly baby Gryph, (not that she thought him unfriendly- Felicity had been happily unaware of Kuja's dislike of her presence) seemed to let her down. As a matter of fact, Felicity was estatic when she heard the small squeak come out of the other chick's mouth. A second Gryph?! That was wonderful!

Her priority, however, was on the first 'something' that she'd sniffed out. Mushu, of course. Oblivious to the dread that was forming in the red Gryphon at the sight of two approaching babies, Felicity continued onward, wiggling close enough to Mushu so that she was an inch or so away from his forepaws. She then promptly let out a trill of happy squeaks, as it to introduce herself.

Unfortunately for her, Felicity hadn't the slightest clue that Kuja was headed towards her. Besides, she hadn't moved his stinky rock!

Mushu promptly tried to backpeddle from the little gryphs. Saddly, he found his back leg bumping up against something else tiny, and soft. Turning his head he saw yet another little gryph. What the?!

Looking left for an escape his eyes went wide as a tiny pig made it's way towards him! (Afterall the cow couldn't obviously be the cow seeing as Susan was a cow).

These little monsters were everywhere!

Cri Kee seemed to laugh at Mushu's misfortune, however quickly stopped as the red gryph shot him a threatening glance. It was then he heard the tiny trilling noises. Turning his head towards the first baby he'd seen he made a nervous laugh.

"Hi... I'm Mushu... nice to meet you all..."

His company was short-lived; he watches as Helios's attention, rather flightly, is caught by someone else. Eyes rolling, but amused, he lets the boy wander off. Any humans who saw this spectacle would probably think that Duke was stuck with babysitting judging from the amount of chicks around him and he being the only adult. Not the case though.

Regardless Duke lets out a yawn, stretches and sets his head down on the nice warm slab. He closes his eyes, intending to take a momentary nap.

Forgetting all about Duke's presence as well, she returned Helios's nuzzle, giggeling. "Not really ! Mom still won't let me go anywhere alone." She pouted, setteling to sit, "It's a bit annoying, but im glad you're here !" She chirped hapilly. "How are you doing ?"

Setzer continued his approach, but then, as if the sky has opened to form a miracle, he stopped nearby, visibely being very amused by what he could gather of the situation.

Thanksfully, he didn't look like he was getting any closer, but he let out a small, amused chirp.

Helios sat down next to her, grinning goofily,
"But you are! Last time, you didn't even have your eyes opened yet or anything!" he disagreed, then lifted his muzzle to the sky, taking in the sunlight,
"I'm doing great! It's so nice and sunny and beautiful out!"

Guinivere chirped up at Mushu. She had no idea what was going on, but he had made some funny noises.

Pay attention to meeeeee! She kept chirpping, hoping he would cuddle against her like her brother did. She was cold anyway and tried moving in closer.

Kuja's ears flickered close to his head as he cringed slightly on the spot. What was making all that chirping?! It was always so noisy!

Snorting again, Kuja ignored it and continued on towards the white Gryph.

Once he was there, he gave it a glare while he pressed his torso to the ground. Again he snorted at it while giving in a annoyed mewl.

Spinning his head towards Setzer's direction, Mushu huffed, "Whatchu laughin' at spikey?" he annoyedly commented on the gryph's hair. Hey..

That one had a stupid looking outfit on too. What was up with that?! Wait... wasn't that one from his flock? Ugh.. it was too... Then the the white and black piggy started chirping at him. Sighing audibly he reached over and nipped at the back of her scruff, dragging her closer, although it was reluctantly.

He may be bigger, but he wasn't so much bigger than the chicks that it was easy to do that.

The Great Mushu!...

Reduced to chick sitter.

"Yeah, it's a very good day out." She agreed, looking back at Mushu and barely repressing a giggle.

"Mama says that too... All this "they grow so fast" thing. Do your mama do that, too ?" She asked, lying down to bask in the sun.

Setzer stopped laughing the second he figured the voice was directed at him, but didn't move or anything. It came to him that he did remember that voice from somewhere, but beyond that...

The good news, for Mushu at least, was that he had no intention to add himself to the chickpile, rolling in a little ball to sleep, visibely now a bit disinterested by the scene. He didn't want any trouble, anyway !

...At least, not until he could cause trouble back.

Helios lie down next to her, rolling over onto his back just like when they were newborns together,
"A little bit..." he laughed, "She's like, 'I just can't believe how big you've gotten'! And I just laugh and roll about in the sun and she goes, 'although, you're still just a chick at heart.' It's funny!"

Guinivere chirped happily as she was dragged closer to the other gryph, then nuzzled against Mushu. Oooh, soft fur. Yay!

She purred contentedly and curled up, yawning cutely. Wherever brother was, he was missing out.

Eugh... it was being all mushy snuggly with him. Mushu felt his ego deflate as the pig nuzzled against him.

Stupid purring piggy.

If Mushu knew there was another pig, he'd have been thankful it wasn't there. Turning his head around he noticed the other little gryph curling up for a nap. Well.. whatever. At least it wasn't buggin' him.

"Mamas are so silly." She giggeled, rolling sideway a bid to cuddle completely against the bigger yellow child, again much like they had done when they both where younger. Visibely, the sweet sent that followed Helios everywhere still drew her in. "But that's okay."

And so Setzer napped... or HOPED he could eventually nap. There where so many sounds in here... He tossed around a bit irritabely, but felt too tired to attempt to move into a more quiet location. Augh...

Helios rolled onto his side, rather than his back, so that he could snuggle against Aurora better. She was such a good cuddle buddy!
"They can be," he nodded, fluffing his wings out for a second and then tucking them back in,
"But, they're fun, too."

Guinivere tried to open her eyes again. Awww, why couldn't she see? It was so annoying. She wanted to see the fluffy thing she was snuggling against.

She started peeping again. Maybe the fluffy thing would play with her!

And then, Setzer's savior came in the form of the tall gryph that was Aurora's mother. She grapped him gentely by the scruff of the neck, still getting a yelp out of the tiny one as she turned and motionned to her daughter that it was time to leave.

"Yeah... sometimes."

She perked a bit at all the sound, and have a loud protest. "But mooommm !" Nothing would do, she knew, and sighed, reductantly getting up. "Im sorry, Helios. Mom wants to go home, probably so that Setzer's mom will be able to come get him. Ill see you later, allright ?"

She gave a small nuzzle at his side before waddeling slowly to her mother, and thus, the little group was on it's way.

Mushu yawned as the little chick started peeping at him. Nu uh. Nooo way. He was napping now and that was that! The little gryph could either nap with him, or he'd simply ignore it and nap anyways. Curling up he stretched out his paws and let himself get comfortable.

Maybe it would go away.
