WALLS
If I were to be a single brick
I wonder what wall I would pick.
Would it be short, tall or long.
It would be extremely strong.
The wall would be so wide,
you'd not cross it in one stride.
My primitive walls were in caves,
my ancient walls are ancient graves,
my future walls are in the womb,
from birth to death walls do entomb.
In Berlin they built a wall
sooner or later it had to fall.
In China was a wall so great
it's slowly meeting a similar fate.
What's left of Hadrian's is sparse
a few mere bricks amongst the grass.
These walls they are no mystery,
they're part of everyday history.
Outside are barriers and walls to
borders, seas, countries, sky of blue.
Next time you're by sand and foam
and buy a lolly or ice cream cone,
they're made in a factory of Walls
and sold at all the seaside stalls.
A body keeps insides in and outsides out
that's what a wall should be all about,
the wall, well that's the skin
and it holds all that's within.
The ribcage yet another wall
protecting heart and lungs and all.
Brick or bone, wood or glass research
flats, houses, factories or church.
Another wall, it was the coffin
in which they buried the computer boffin.
So as this wall takes its birth
remember to take care of Planet Earth.
