Welcome to Gaea's spot of Wisdom! This journal will serve the purpose of mainly containing rp! Whether logs of in-thread stuff, or personal rps (by herself, with her family, or even with other Gryphs!) they will all be stored here, ultimately. Please do not steal any images in the journal. They're all the wonderful property of Toushin. <3 Thank you!

Log 1 Gaea curled up in a spot of rare sunshine. It had been rainy as of late, and the sun had been hiding from her. Not that she could see it, of course, but she could feel it's warmth hidden behind the cold-inducing clouds. She was comfortable, though. Things were going well for her. Her tummy was full of something soft and mushy, and if she were more closely related to the feline family, she would be purring.
With stumbling little steps, a silvery griff wandered out into the sunshine. Granted, they weren't really steps. More like scooting - the little claws awkwardly digging into the dirt. He was a happy little creature right now - making soft, squeaky noises and enjoying the feel of the warmth on his back.
Gaea sense another presence coming towards her. She wasn't sure what exactly, but it wasn't her mommy or even that size or shape. Tentatively, the little griffin scooted over in that direction. She was reluctant to move a whole lot, though-- the patch of sunlight she'd been relaxing in was -awfully- comfortable.
A few short, inquiring chirps issued in the other's direction.
Dillamond couldn't hear the chirps, of course - his ears, being a newborn, were still shut. But he did get the feeling something was nearby.
With a couple more awkward rolls and scoots, he bumped right into that something - that furry, soft something - and chirped loudly in surprise.
Gaea also chirped in surprise when the creature bumped into her. Hadn't it heard her? Well, that was okay. It was warm and soft. She snuggled against it, letting the sunlight and the creature next to her keep her comfortable. This was certainly a pleasant life. And a pleasant day. No more icky wet rain.
After an awkward moment, Dillamond relaxed.
...Well, this was nice. This cuddling thing. Whatever it was he was cuddling against.
He nuzzled his face into Gaea's shoulder, chirping contendedly.
Gaea would have giggled if she knew how. Chirping a cheerful, laughing little chirp, she continued the snuggling, venturing a little lick on his forehead.
With a loud squeak of surprise, Dillamond rolled onto his back, pedaling his little paws lazily in the air. He was happy, though, that was certain - he wasn't trying to hit Gaea.
Gaea nuzzled Dillamond's tummy gently, burying her little nose in his fur. So nice and warm and...ouch! Something hit her. She backed away a little bit, getting her bearings. Then, she came closer to Dillamond again.

Log 2
A majestic, deep green female griffon settled the helpless chick on the grass. It was time for a little more socialization, and this time outside of the flock. There were meeting grounds set aside for the chicks to experience what others outside of the flock were like. Of course, with one so young as little Gaea was, there wasn't much of a meeting...but perhaps some of the older chicks from other flocks could benefit from it.
Gaea snuggled contentedly against the blades of grass and warm earth. This was where she was most comfortable.
And here was Duke once more brought to the Center of the World to meet and greet. The days were beautiful as were the nights; the weather was being kind to everyone, and so it was wise to spend it in the company of familiar creatures. His mother had set him down and left him to tend to her other charges but ever watchful of him especially after what had happened the day before. He ruffles his tiny wings and climbs up to his feet, starting to march around and looking more than just a tad silly as he does. His head swings from side to side, and the sight would make most laugh loudly in amusement as he seems to march to an unheard tune. That diligent march comes to a stop when he sees a very green little creature on the grass. Another little baby! Not the one he had seen before, but still!
Bouncing over -- as he was starting to get ahold of balancing his legs! -- he stops in front of the almost sleeping infant. Nose drops down to sniffle around her ears, loudly, and certainly rudely invading her personal space, but she probably isn't aware of having any with how young she is. His tail twitches behind him, jerking back and forth in a sort of wagging gesture.
Gaea noticed the invasion, but didn't really see it as such. She was pretty used to having random bouts of creatures snuffling and snuggling and just generally touching her. Since she couldn't really see anything and her hearing wasn't quite up to snuff, these bouts were always unexpected. She could barely tell what Duke was, and that only because of the feathers tickling her nose and ears. She purred contentedly, snuggling closer to him.
His ears twitch when he hears the light purrs and watches the little girl snuggle closer to him. He sits down, plopping hindquarters down onto the grass and staring down at her with a look of mixed confusion and curiosity. His attention is quickly diverted by a fluttering Horsefly nearby and he leaps up and neighs out in delight at the sight of it! He's ready to go after it, but is momentarily entranced by the beautiful patterns on its wings.
Gaea lets out a soft, disappointed chirrup as the source of head and snuggly soft feathers leaves her side, but quickly forgets about it and basks comfortably in the sunlight and loam. Life is amazingly simplistic when you're still small enough to forget everything within a matter of moments.
If he could read thoughts, he would have to agree about that. He's forgotten all about her and contents himself with running clumsily after the little winged mammal as it flutters from flower to flower, over little streams broken off from one of the four rivers, he himself splashing through it with a squealing sort of horse like laugh. The water now gets his attention and he jumps around in it, neighing up into the air with delight!
Why, what fun! he thinks to himself, feeling the cool water go between his toes and cooling down his body from the sun. I shall have to do this more oft-- but he is cut off when he catches sight of the Horsefly again and goes after it, abandoning his watery playground as he makes his way back over to Gaea.
Once there he stops, panting loudly as his little lungs try to catch breath again and he decides for a rest. His body flops onto the ground, ears swiveling and then he looks down to the little girl.
Gaea makes a few haphazard chirps and clicks, but none of them make any particular order or sense. Just noises for the sake of exercising her vocal chords. Her caretaker wanders over to nose her and check up, but realizes she's just making noise and slowly makes her way back over to the Southern Flock females she's been socializing with. Gaea makes a few noises of disappointment at her caretaker's abandonment, but quickly forgets and settles back into her usual enjoyment of the moment. There are so many nice things about the earth! The snuggly soft dirt, sweet smelling grass, the warm comforting sunshine...yes, this is a nice place to be.
His head tilts up when the large female comes by to tend to the little one then watches her depart. He looks back to Gaea as she snuggles away at the grass, nickering in a giggle like sound. His wings stretch out and as he had done to Torini, he lifts a paw up to poke and prod gently at the baby. He apparently had not learned his lesson -- whatever that lesson was -- from the day before, and still found babies something to push and sniff and examine.
Gaea chirped softly in protest. Now, snuggling was one thing, but being shaken was yet another! This was a bit more violent than she prefered, that was for sure.
The adult griffon who was to tend Gaea sent a warning look Duke's way, and chirped at him to be gentler, then turned back to her friends. She was sure the little one would be fine. Besides, she knew that Gaea would stick up for herself if pushed too far.
Duke had not been shaking her though! He was gentle as he poked at her. Shaking? Hardly! Why, he was being considerably more soft than he had been with Torini. Just the act of poking should not be allowed hadn't exactly gotten through to him.
He exhales a huff when the little girl chirps, and the look of caution he doesn't actually notice. Ears pin back against his head as he snuffs lightly, and rises up to his feet to walk off towards his own flock. He could harass the babies there!
Gaea chirps sadly. She hadn't wanted him to leave, just to snuggle and not prod at her and stuff. She scoots forward a little bit, searching for him, and then gives up, settling back into the loam.

Gaea frolicked in the grass nearby. She had found a particularly beautiful butterfly and was playing chase (though she had no intention of touching it, as she had found that that would make the butterfly stop flying and she didn't like that) with the creature. Her happy chirps as the butterfly flitted around and about were gentle but a bit loud and sporadic...and the den mother who had brought her and a few of the other chicks this day kept giving her worried glances, fearing she was getting hurt, and then realizing it was not the case.
Duke was finally sat down, much to his delight, and quickly ran off to resume his game with Oz, only to find that the boy had also been carried off, this time presumely back home, wherever he went. He shrugs lightly, turning his attention around just in time to see the nearby Gaea playing! Why, he remembers her! Another sound of pure happiness, a shrieking neigh, and he gallops towards her, intent on playing!
Gaea heard the neigh and looked away from her butterfly just long enough to completely lose track of it. She let out a soft nickering sad noise about that, but was a little curious about this other griffin charging towards her. Cautiously, she sat down and watched him come nearer, sending a questioning whicker his direction.
He does not come full force at her with the intent to attack, but just to get close as quickly as he can. He fumbles into a stop but this time does not fall! Hooray for Duke! His little tuft of a tail wags behind him as he nickers out loudly at the female, wiggling his ears and starts to jump up and down in place before breaking into a run around her in a full circle, obviously showing his intent for play!
Gaea chitters laughingly at Duke's antics, standing up and chasing his circles at the next available opportunity. Playfuly, she swats at his tufty tail, completely forgetting about the butterfly.
A squeak of surprise as she swats at his tail, leaping up into the air as if attempting to dodge, only to flail wildly and hit the ground with a loud grunt. This doesn't derail him for very long because he gets to his feet and resumes his run, this time leading Gaea through a nice field of flowers that almost entirely hide them from view!
Gaea whickers apologetically, but then forgets about it as she's led into the field of flowers. Oooh so pretty! She's distracted by the pretty colours and scents and starts swatting at a dandelion instead of Duke, chirping cheerfully in appreciation.
He comes to a halt as he realizes he's no longer being chased. How odd. His ears twitch and his head tilts as he about faces and heads back in the direction from where he had come. A faint nicker of curiosity would tell Gaea he was interested in what she found so much more fun, and he sees his surroundings finally.
Wow, how pretty! His eyes widen as he walks over to her and starts to sniff at the flowers, their fragrance tickling his nostrils and making him sneeze quietly. A whicker of delight, jumping up and down as he runs through a wall of flowers, sending petals into the air like a crashing wave.
Gaea chirps a giggle as she watches Duke with the petals flying all about him, and chases after, jumping and swirling the petals more with her paws as she runs. She pounces him after a few moments, nuzzling him gently and then getting up to play with the flowers some more, batting them until all the petals fly away.
He is so engrossed in the act of running through the flowers, in a sense destroying them, but at the same time setting them free, that he is not aware of Gaea as she runs after him. She would fit so well here with that pelt of hers and her name itself suggested how in tune with the flowers and the earth she herself might actually be. So. She easily pounces him, sending him sprawling onto his belly and blinking in surprise as she lands atop of him and nuzzles. He sits up, rubbing his cheek against his shoulder and mimics her, sitting up on his hindlegs like a begging dog and batting at the floating petals with a look of awe in his eyes.
Gaea does indeed fit in rather well with this setting. Though it's still in it's infancy along with her, she does have a bit of an affinity for earthly things that will more than likely grow as she does. She calms down from the initial excitement after a moment and curls up in a pile of petals, watching Duke with affection. He has been a good, fun friend so far!
He remains upright even after the petals have been taken away on a rush of wind, watching with intent and curious eyes as they dance against the blue sky. It made him feel like he was at home, so to speak, nestled in the warm and at the same time, cool grass of the prairie in the west as the sky performed a dance with grass clippings and flower parts. Eventually he either loses interest or sight, dropping down to look towards Gaea and offer her a cheeky smile.
He was not earthly himself, but lived true to the idea of a wild bronco that his flock was most known for. His ears wriggle as he sits there on his haunches admist the flowers, tail patting the ground behind in his happiness. While they were both still young, they could talk to one another, easily able to understand where older ones could not.
"I'm Duke." It had come time, it seemed, for introductions!
Gaea snuffled a petal, sneezing as the pollen from the flower that had fallen on it tickled the inside of her nose. She looked up at him, blue eyes calm but curious, "I'm Gaea. Where are you from? Not my flock. I haven't seen you."
"Uh.." He glances around, obviously trying to figure out where it is he's from. He can't tell amongst the walls of flowers and rises up onto his feet to look over them, but even then that doesn't help. "I'm.. from where the sun sets!" he announces upon the realization that's exactly where he's from. Yes, where the sun sets rather than where the sun rises.
Gaea's ears flatten a little in sadness, "Oh. I'm from where the sun rises..." she chirps softly, "That's very far from each other, I think."
At least, it seems very far to her. She wonders how she will stay friends with him if he is from so far away...but maybe he will come here a lot, and she will too, and then they can play together! "Maybe we can come play here sometimes?"
"That does sound far," he murmurs in agreement, but he's still smiling. His tail thumps continuously behind him. "We're on opposite sides of the Tree!" he also realizes. While he had not been taught the importance of the Tree, he knew some things from what he had heard from the grown ups.
He nods quickly at her words. "Yes, yes, we can! We've played before. Don't you remember?" He did because he was a bright boy like that. He remembers her and another female, whom he hadn't seen lately though. Maybe she was off with her own flock.
Lack of sight and hearing can severaly injure your ability to remember someone..but she had a vague recollection of his scent, "Maybe...I remember a little.." but she'd been so small..and really, she wasn't sure it mattered too much, as long as they could keep playing.
"The...tree?" she hadn't really heard much about the Tree, though she was about due to begin her lessons with it. Maybe a few more days before her learning began.
He didn't say anything else, just sat there looking at her through the stems of the various kinds of flowers. His ears erect and in her direction as well, a silly smile on his face.
"Yes, the Tree. This is where we all come together! I've never seen the Tree though.." he murmurs, glancing around as if trying to find it.
Gaea's ears flicked curiously, and she hopped to her feet with grace, "What's the Tree do?" she asked, taking a few steps towards him again and snuffling a rather feathery looking flower petal before it tickled her nose and she sneezed it away, "maybe we should go look for it!"
Duke looks at her when she asks and his tiny winged shoulders roll in a light shrug. "I dunno," he answers then smiles afterwards.
"What look for it? Well.. huh..." He seems to be contemplating this and it's taking a lot of thinking judging by that look of determination on his face.
Gaea swatted absently at a butterfly wandering around past her. She watched Duke for a second, but then quickly grew bored with that, "Do you think we should?" she asked, prompting him to continue.
"I dunno. I don't think so," he admits, though he seems albeit ashamed to admit this deafeat. "I think it would be bad if we did. I mean, I don't even think my mom has seen it!" He boasts this with some pride, but it's not very much. He pushes up to his feet, tail wagging gently behind him.
Gaea blinked, "Maybe we should find out what it is, then? We can bug the den mom's...."
She pawed at the dirt a moment, "Or we could just play something like hide-'n-seek."
He shrugs his shoulders lightly before turning his head from side to side, looking through the walls upon walls of flower stems, glancing upwards to look at the petals and then back to Gaea. "Hide-n-seek sounds like fun!" And he does sound like he is very open to the option of playing this game.
Quite suddenly he bats her on the nose and takes off. "You're it! You count, I hide!"
Gaea sneezed when he batted her nose, but then giggled, "Okay!" She chirped after him, closing her eyes and settling into the dirt to count.
"1....2....3...."
The perfect opportunity for Duke! He gallops through the fields, actually not too sure of where he's going. He stands out pretty well against the green, but this doesn't occur to him. Going further and further, he finally finds a large tree and runs around behind it, tucking down against a root and covering his face with his paws. The classic 'I'm invisible this way!' technique.
Gaea finished her counting within a few more seconds, and hopped back to her feet, glancing about. Where to look?
She wandered off in one direction, snuffling about in the grass for a bit, and then hopped over in another. A flash of white caught her eye, though. Really, it wasn't very easy for Duke to hide in the grass-- his colouring was just too distinctive from it.
"Found ya!" she giggled, pouncing him.
He squeaks loudly when he's caught, grunting as he tries to scramble away, but failing as she successfully catches him. His nostrils wriggle and his tail does too, rolling onto his back to try and shove her off. "Fine, fine, you did," he mutters in dismay and defeat. His ears pin against his head as he sits up now, waving a foreleg at her. "Go on and I'll count."
As soon as she thought Duke wasn't looking anymore, Gaea scampered off to find a good hiding spot-- it'd probably be a little harder for him to find her, considering her green helped her hide amongst the grasses.
Still, she didn't pick a particularly good hiding spot. She crouched, letting off a few giggling whickers before she managed to calm herself, in the middle of the field, buried amongst the grass, but not covered by much else.
Duke counted and he did not look. His head bobbled from side to side as he counted each number, though he was mostly saying words and jumbles because he actually did not know how to count. Then when he decided he had counted long enough, he rose to his feet and began his search of Gaea.
It doesn't occur to this little boy the difficulty he's going to have finding her. All that interests him is finding her so that they can keep on playing.

And why Duke? Duke is nearby, hopping up onto a rock and proudly boasting his chest. "HA! I am King of the Rock!" he shouts out in the highest whinnying he can produce, grinning down at all the little chicks who were nearby. "I am better than all of yooooou!"
Gaea trots/gallops/runs over to the site of excitement. She hasn't heard what's going on, only heard a bunch of noise and is curious about it. The little gryph chick quickly spots her pal and settles herself in front of the rock, peering up at him, "What'cha doin', Duke?"
Duke blinks, dropping his head down to look at the ivy Hippogryph Gaea. "HA! I am King of the Rock! I am showing off! SEE?!" He puffs out his chest again, pushing his shoulders forward and pinning his ears back in an attempt to look like some sort of proud and regal stallion, but to no avail. He just looks silly.
Gaea giggles, "You're a bit small for a king," she teases, then ducks her head a bit bashfully, "Though, you're bigger than I am now."
"What?" he blinks, his body relaxing considerably and he looks down at her. "SO?! I'm bigger th-- yeah! That's right! I AM BIGGER THAN YOU!" He hops down to the ground and gives her a push to send her flopping backwards. "So that makes me the King and you're my servant! And servants do whatever their King says."
Now, Gaea is usually a very laid-back, relaxed chick, but this is a bit much even for her, "Hey!" she flitters her tiny wings uselessly, more in irritation than anything else as she gracefully regains her footing from his shove. "That wasn't nice! I won't be your friend at all anymore if you keep that up."
Sticks his tongue out her, smiling afterwards. "Yeah you will because no one's as cool as I am. Besides," he turns his head to look over his shoulder past one of his larger wings at her. "How many others have you met besides me? We're always hanging out!" He about faces to look at her, dropping his head so that their eyes meet. "You'd be bored if I wasn't around."
She frowns, "Well, only because you were nice to me before. If you're not nice, I'll find someone else to play with. There are lots of other chicks around."
She swats absently at a blade of grass, enjoying the way it bends when her paw touches it, "I don't want to, though. I like you. But I'm not gonna be your servant."
"Pfft, fine," he answers while rolling his eyes and turning around once more. He starts to walk off. "Come on, let's go find something to do. Maybe... maybe.. Well, huh." He wrinkles his nose, obviously at a loss as to what they can do. "You have any suggestions?"
Gaea's ears perk at his agreement. She definitely doesn't want to lose her first friend!
"Er..maybe we can play tag?" she asks, wiggling her tail a little. He's probably a lot faster than her, but that doesn't really matter anyways. It's just a game and an excuse to run around.
"Tag, huh?" he echoes sounding contemplative over the thought of the game. "I dunno...." He keeps on walking, his paws crushing the grass beneath him as he goes, but not leaving any imprints; he's not heavy enough to do that. "Tag's kinda boring if it's just two of us y'know?"
Gaea walks mostly in the patches of not-so-grassy areas where she's not really bending over too many of the blades when she walks. She wouldn't want to hurt them!
"Well, I guess...." she sighs, looking about and spotting something fluttering in the distance, "Oooh!" she frolics after it, assuming Duke will follow her, "pretty!"
"Maybe we can find someone else who will play with us. At least with three people there's someone else we can chase aside from each other."
He stops short as she takes off running after something. His head tilts to the side, blinking, but he decides to follow. Darting forward off a bounding hindpaw, he spreads his wings then folds them back as he goes after her. "What? What do you see!"
Gaea was intent on the little critter before her. She wiggled excitedly, though she settled in place. She wasn't really sure what to think of it. It was green like her, and had what looked like patterns just like hers all over it! In fact, it looked a -lot- like her! ..only tiny...with butterfly wings.
"I don't know what it is, Duke!" she turned to make sure he heard her, but kept one eye on the fluttering creature before her, "But it's really neat!"
He finally catches up to her, breathing a little heavier as he had to bolt to catch up to her. He comes up to her side, tilting his head up to look at the winged creature. Curiously he tilts his head to the side, blinking.
"I dunno what it is either but it is pretty neat!" He smiles and then sits himself down, his head remaining angled up so that he can keep an eye on it as well. "I wonder what it is. Maybe one of our moms will know."
Gaea seemed to be a little bigger when he caught up with her, though she was still a bit smaller than he was. Something about the horsefly must've given them both a new perspective, as she suddenly -felt- a little bigger and older.
She peered up at it, "Well, how will we get it back to them to find out?" she pondered, half asking herself and half asking him, "I wonder if it will follow us if we ask nicely?"
Duke doesn't seem to notice as he keeps his eyes on the Horsefly. He's seen them before but he never really talked to anyone about it; he just played with them.
"I.. I dunno," he answers honestly, finally dropping his head to look at her. "Maybe you should try asking." He doesn't think it'll work but it never hurts to try.
She peered up at the little creature again, trying to think how to phrase her request. Shrugging, she just asked, "Will you come with us? We want to see if our den mothers know what you are."
The horsefly nodded, flittering it's wings.
Gaea jumped in joy, "Did you see that?" she asked her friend, "He said he'll come!"
Duke blinks. He could barely believe it even though he had seen it! His ears twitch and he opens his mouth to say something, closes it... then opens it again.
"How do you know it's a boy?" is all he manages to get out as he stares at it with a narrowed eye. Not angry but very curious. But he does climb to his feet, turning around and slowly starting to head back towards the meadow.
She sorta shrugs, "I do not really know..." she says softly, peering back at the horsefly as it follows her towards the meadows, "But, I guess I just think he is. I can't just call him 'it'."
"If you say so. What're you gonna call him?" His pace is slow and steady, making sure to stay by Gaea's side the whole time as they make their way back to the meadow, which is where all the flocks congregate with their young for the most part.
Gaea charged up to one of the den mothers that had taken her and her siblings to the meadows, "Mother!" she tried to get the other's attention.
The horsefly flittered around a bit, keeping close to Gaea but keeping an eye on Duke as well. He seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself following the two chicks around, at any rate.
The den mother turned, "What is it, child?"
Duke was not in as much a haste as Gaea herself was, stopping a good yard or so away from the group. He stands there for a few lingering seconds then sits himself down on the ground, pulling his forelegs up against his chest to watch.
He glances up at the fluttering Horsefly then looks back to Gaea, silently watching and observing for the time being. He felt very out of place alluvasudden.
The horsefly decided to flutter near Duke for the time being-- he seemed unhappy, and that couldn't be tolerated!
Gaea looked up at her den mother, "We wanted to know what that is!" she nodded towards the critter fluttering happily a little bit away.
The older gryph smiled, "It's just a horsefly, dear."
Duke blinks his large brown eyes, tilting his head up and around as the Horsefly flutters around him with the uncanny butterfly speed and ability. It's not that he wasn't really unhappy, just feeling very out of place. It doesn't matter though because he turns his attention away to watch Gaea, keeping himself still and in place at the edge of the group.
When the older gryphon looks towards him, he shrinks away a little bit; after all, it's different flocks, and while they all do live in harmony, there are still issues between them all as well.
"Ohhhhh!" Gaea whickers, nuzzling against the den mother despite the other's rather disapproving looks upon second glance in the direction she'd nodded. Gaea hasn't really realized the flock differences just yet-- and really is not likely ever to. But, her den mother feels a bit differently.
"You oughtn't be hanging about with that ragamuffin," she says gently, "Though I'm not going to stop you, but it won't help you in the long run."
The horsefly settled himself on Duke's head...or, at least tried to...
Frowns as he hears this, his ears dropping and his head as well. Now that was a damper. He felt a great weight quite suddenly on him, looking downright upset if someone happened to spare a glance his way; no longer the proud and happy Duke he usually is.
"Well, that wasn't very fair," he murmurs as he forces himself up to his feet, whether or not the Horsefly is sitting on his head to tag along. He turns around and starts to walk away, his head hanging, and it's a surprise he can even keep his wings up instead of letting them fall.
Gaea ignores her den mother's warning-- she warns against a lot of things that don't really seem important, and trots off after Duke, "Hey, wait up!" she calls, "Why are you going without me?"
He doesn't wait up, but doesn't speed up either. He just stares at the passing ground, walking without a word until she comes up beside him.
"I think I'm gonna go see if my mom will take me home," he answers, closing his eyes a little. "I don't feel good." It was something like a lie but he didn't feel good after hearing that.
Gaea looks at him, concerned, as she catches up. "You don't feel well? How come? Did you swallow a bug?" she asks, lithely weaving around a large patch of grass so that she didn't smush it all, "You'll come play with me again when you feel better, right?"
He shakes his head, saying nothing more on what exactly made him not feel too well. She might have weaved around the grass but he steps on it; he doesn't share the same concern for the earth that she has.
"Yeah... sure." He lifts his head up and then suddenly bursts into a gallop to get away.

Gaea frolicked about, chasing Silvanus, the horsefly. She'd given him that name upon the advice of one of her den mothers, and rather thought it suited him (if the critter was indeed a him, which she'd decided it was) nicely. The little green filly (for young horses are called fillies, and hippogryphs are not so far separated from horses) nearly caught him a couple of times, but that was probably because he thought it fun to let her.
Grumpy peeks out from a bush. He glances around. Hopefully no one would bother him. He saw no one in sight and that gave him a great sense of relief, enough to slip out from his hiding spot and start to slowly walk out. His paws push down into the soft grass as he heads down towards a nearby stream to look down at his reflection. It's kind of hard to see though since he's just as blue as the water!
Gaea spotted the glum little guy looking in the water, and capered over towards him. Her big eyes peered curiously at him, "Hello there!" she smiled, flicking her ears a bit as Silvanus landed on her head and unintentionally tickled them with his tail.
He tilts his head as he hears a voice and spies an older looking filly. His expression grows sour immediately, his ears drooping; so much for being able to enjoy hiself.
"Hi," he mutters as he glances away to look back to the water.
His sour tone confuses her a little bit, so she settles comfortably in the grass, enjoying the loam, "What is the matter?" she asks gently, snuffling a nearby flower, "you sound sad."
"I'm not sad!" he grunts out irritably, scowling down at the water. He pushes up to his feet, a distinct sight of his little white belly scene in contrast to his dark, gloomier blue tone of fur. "I just wish everyone would stop bugging me." And he turns around, starting to walk off to make his point known.
The filly blinks, watching him walk off, "Oh.." well, if he wants to be left to his own devices, she isn't going to bother him. She likes making new friends, but she isn't about to force someone to talk to her or anything. Instead, she rolls over, rubbing against the dirt as Silvanus barely manages to get in the air again before he gets smooshed, "haha!" she giggles, "Almost got you that time!"
Grumpy was grateful she left him alone; too often they continued to badger and bother him. So he kept going, passing by the brown and white colt, Duke as he does and not even giving him a glance.
"Wow, what's got his feathers in a bunch?" announced Duke loudly as he makes his way over to Gaea, casting a second and final glance at the blue chick. He apparently has forgotten the mishaps with Gaea's flock -- or simply chose not to let what her den mother said get to him -- because he sits down right by her head, tilting his own to look at her.
Gaea looks up at him from on her back, and shakes her head, "Don't know. He seems pretty sad, though. Poor little guy."
She hasn't forgotten about the last time they saw each other, though, "Are you feeling better now? I hope you weren't -tooooo- sick," she asks, rolling over onto her side and then propping herself up a bit so that only her back half is sideways.
Silvanus flutters over to Duke, settling on his head instead, now that he's already been tricked by Gaea recently.
He just nods slighlty, but then stops when she inquires about his illness. It takes him a few moments to realize what she means and he smiles faintly at her, the unhappy memories falling back into his mind and he nods more firmly this time. "I'm feeling a lot better, yeah.. Thanks. I just needed to nap."
That wasn't entirely a lie; he had felt a lot better after he had taken a nap. He rolls his eyes up to look at the little horsefly, smiling.
The little filly shakes out her mane, smiling back at him, "Good! Then you can play with me again!" she hops gracefully to her feet, "What do you want to play?"
Silvanus makes a few soft chittery noises and peers down into Duke's eyes even as he's peering up. The horsefly seems to smile, and take up into the air again, spinning around in a circle cheerfully.
"Yeah." And he puts on the best smile he can for her because he didn't want to upset her. He climbs up to his feet and glances around after having looked away from Silvanus.
"Huh, I dunno. I wonder where everyone else is. It'd be great if we could all play together..."
Gaea could sense something was still wrong-- she had a little bit of an intuitive nature, but decided not to push the issue. Whatever it waas, he didn't seem inclined to talk about it, and she didn't want to make him even more upset!
She shook her head again, "I do not know..." she peered around the field, "I guess maybe they are all napping?"
Should she ever mention this moment again and if he remembered, he would express gratitude to her for not going any further with the matter.
"I guess so," he murmurs sounding disappointed. He didn't mind Gaea's company but it would be nice to play with others once in awhile too. "Come on; let's go see if we can find anyone." And so he starts to walk off.
Snuffing around the field, Torini kicked at a bit of dirt. Shoving her nose into it, she pulled back when something suddenly wriggled around.
Letting out a rather loud, surprised whinny, the pinkish purple gryph bolted back suddenly. Getting a few, sure steps, she saw something peach, almost pink in colour, wriggling around.
"EIW! A worm!" she exclaimed rather loudly, tail swishing about.
"GROSS!"
Gaea heard the other Gryph (Torini) squeal and re-directed herself, thinking the other might be in danger. Huffing a bit, she arrived at the filly's side, "What's the matter?" she asked, peering at this new gryph she hadn't met before, "Are you okay?"
Duke blinks, his ears perking as he hears that shrilling whinny and he takes off in a gallop after Gaea, wings flapping as he moves, barely lifting him up off the ground as he moves, but he wasn't necessarily flying.
Once there, he skids to a halt, spreading the large pair of feathers and then nestling them against him. He smiles brightly.
"Torini!" And is prompt to tackle her!
"Yah... I'm alright... but there's a worm there!" she wrinkled her nose, pointing at the 'slimey' creature now slowly begining to burrow down beneath the soil.
"So gross... it tried to go up my nose!" she turned and gave a disgusted look at Gaea, the idea of a worm getting up there surely was not a wonderful thought.
"By the way, my name is..." the abrupt calling of her name from a rather familar voice caused Torini's ears to flicker as she turned her head.
"Duke! Hey!" she called back, wings fluffing up high in greeting, "You got even bigger!"
Gaea blinked, looking at the worm, "What is wrong with a worm?" she asked, then blinked again as she introduced herself, "Now, what a minute. You cannot be Duke! Duke is Duke!"
Duke tackled Torini, paying no mind to what the two girls were saying. He rolls with her to pin her down then leaps off, bouncing around like the happy kid he is.
He stops though at Gaea's words and lets out a laugh. "No, her name is Torini! I'm Duke. I haven't seen her in awhile." He sits down, reaching out to paw at Tori's face.
"There's three of us now! We can play!"
"Yah! I met Duke when I was teensy... he squashed me then... bet he couldn't do that now though!" Torini pawed back at Duke, and nodded to Gaea.
"What's your name?" she grinned, "And I don't like worms when they try to go up my nose! It's gross!"
Gaea blinked, "Well, I don't think it was -really- trying to go up your nose. It wouldn't have anything to eat there or anything. My den mother told me worms eat dirt."
She nodded satisfactorily at the explanation, "Oh. Okay. Hello Torini. I'm Gaea." She smiled, making a little bow. Her ears flicked as Silvanus tickled them again with his tail while fluttering over her head, "...and this is Silvanus."
"I bet I could so!" he retaliates, flopping to the ground, butt in the air, ready to tackle Torini again as he grins at her, mischeviously.
"I bet I could take you both on and win!" he stands up, proudly boasting out his chest, which one day would become full with the mane that was starting to grow at the top of his head. "Because I'm bigger and older," he states, nodding his head.
"Oh... well.. it was tickling my nose anyways... I didn't want to chance it!" she exclaimed brightly, nodding as though she knew exactly what she was talking about.
"Aww... Silvanus is cute! Horsefly! I've seen a few, but never this close up before!" she grinned before turning and huffing at Duke.
"Nu uh... no way! You so could not." she puffed out her wings, turning a circle as he readied his pounce.
When he stood up she stuck out her tongue and winked, "You'd lose, cause you're a booooooy..." she nickered with amusement.

Helios snuggled in a pile of fluffy fur in the grass. He was awake, of course. He didn't really sleep as much as most of the other chicks about. It didn't matter that he was so little and couldn't do much, he did what he could! The little ball of fuzz stretched his tiny paws out, yawned, rolled over on his back to expose his belly to the warming sun...life was definitely good!
Gaea hovered around the little guy, watching him. She'd spotted him earlier, when she was looking for someone to play with. He was too little, of course, but she sort of like the little-ness of him. She wondered if she'd been that delicate when she was little!
Duke comes wandering around, nearly stepping on the little thing! Had it not been for the bright colors he might have!
"Whoa! Another one! I saw a little one last night too!" he whinnies out in excitement at Gaea, having spotted her. He sets his paw down nearby, looking down at the little sparkling fluff of yellow. "Did you find it? Is it your baby brother?"
Gaea startled a little when Duke showed up, then grinned horsily at him, "He's not my brother, no, but isn't he cute?" she gently nuzzled his fluffy fur, settling down next to him, "I don't think I was ever this tiny! He's so little!"
Helios enjoyed the nuzzling. Even if he didn't know what it was or anything. He just knew that it was nice. He got it a lot, though this felt a little different from usual. The nose was a little smaller, for one thing.
"Oh he isn't?" He looks surprised, but obviously he doesn't realize that siblings look alike. "You were this tiny! I think... I know I wasn't." Duke has got an ego that constantly needs to be stroked.
"But he is really tiny and cute." He giggles in amusement, dropping his head down to nuzzle the little thing too, and he takes notice of the sweet smell he eminates! "Wow! And he smells so... so... NICE!"
Gaea whickered, "I bet you were so," she teases him, snuggling against him. She likes Duke-- he's definitely a lot more fun than most of the other colts she knows! ...well, at least more fun than the fillies. She doesn't know many other colts.
She sniffs the chick, blinking, "He really does! How odd!"
Helios chirped contentedly. Their sniffings are a bit odd for him, their warm breath tickles his fur against his skin, making him shiver just a little bit out of ticklishness. But, he likes it! He likes everything. He's just that kinda guy.
Duke blinks when Gaea snuggles against him and against his white cheeks is a flush of red, his ears pinning back and he smiles very sheepishly, looking almost like a donkey in the way he flashes his teeth at her.
"N-no! No, I wasn't! I was big and, and, and TOUGH!" He's stumbling, a little out of nervousness at the closeness. His little tail twitches and he clears his throat, forcing himself to relax and looking down at the chick.
"I wonder where he's from. What's his name? Do you know?"
Gaea smiled, giggling at his sillyness. That flush in his cheeks was really cute! "He's from the North Flock. I saw him come in. His momma said his name is Helios."
She reached over to fluff Duke's "mane" a little bit, "I bet you were tiny once, though. When you were really little. But you got big fast." she nodded, "I mean, you've always been bigger than me!"
Helios chirped lightl. The nuzzling had stopped, and he liked it! Somebody ought to keep it up! ..or at least keep touching him. He liked the snuggly feeling of being close to another!
He hoped that Gaea didn't see, and thus, he doesn't mention it. "Ohh. Helios. That's a nice name. From the North? Huh."
He grunts when his tuft of hair is fluffed, wrinkling his nostrils a little and glaring playfully at her. "Ha! I was never tiny!" he boasts, still sticking to what he thinks is a fact. "You're just jealous that I'm always gonna be BIGGER."
Gaea peered down at the little guy when he chirped, and then settled next to him, snuggling against him, "He's so cute...my mother said that one day when I'm big, I'll have chicks of my very own to take care of!" She looked up at Duke, "Nah. I don't mind being small. I can run faster than most of the bigger colts!"
Helios snuggled closer to the warm presence next to him, flipping back onto his belly and chirping contentedly. This was definitely good.
"You're going to have chicks?" he makes a face of disgust because, like any boy, he didn't want kids! That was girly stuff! "Yuck! No way. None for me. NUH UH." He nods his head, promptly deciding this. It would never happen to Duke.
Gaea glared at him, "If nobody had any chicks, you wouldn't even be here!" she scorned, sniffing at the little guy next to her. He didn't have to like the idea, but he didn't have to be so down about it!
"There's nothing wrong with wanting to have chicks some day. When I'm big. I want to be just like my mother!"
Duke shrinks away, momentarily confused at her. "Hey! Don't yell at me!" He huffs, pushing up to his feet, scowling at her now.
"Your mom's mean anyway." And with those final words, he turns, starting to walk off, grumbling in irritation at her.
Gaea realized she was a little defensive. It was just-- he had said that right in front of the chick! ..besides, she liked chicks!
"I'm sorry, Duke!" she hopped gracefully to her feet and chased after him, "What d'you mean my mother's mean? Did she say something to you?"
Helios squawked in protest as the warmth was moved, but got over it quickly enough, rolling over on his back again to bathe his belly in sunlight.
Stops, glancing at her, shaking his head, deciding to stay silent because he didn't want to upset her more.
"I wanna go take a bath. It's hot out." And it really was, at least to him. He starts to head off again, his direction being one of the four rivers that flow around them.
Gaea blinked, following him, "Duke...please don't be mad at me! I promise I didn't mean to yell! It's just, with the chick right there..."
She paused, "Can I come with you, at least? I don't want you to leave me still mad and all. And how do you know if my mom's mean or not? You haven't met her!"
This last wasn't indignant, but curious more than anything else. Maybe he had met her and Gaea just didn't know about it...but she didn't think it was likely. She was pretty sure Duke had never been to the East, and her mother stayed there most of the time.
"Yeah you can come," he answers without looking back. He lifts his head up to give himself the appearance, again, of a more regal Hippogryph. He keeps on walking, not stopping to wait on her, refusing to still answer her on the topic of her mother.
Gaea sighs. She doesn't know what to do. Duke seems really mad, and she is tired of trying to get him to answer her. But....she doesn't want him to walk away still mad at her.
"How come you keep getting mad at me?" she asks, trotting along beside him, "Do you not like me anymore?"
He stops, glancing at her. "Of course I like you.. Uh... where's Helios?" He hadn't meant to change it on purpose but he realizes that the chick is left alone, and if it had been left in Gaea's care, then she needs to take care of him!
He turns around looking in the direction of where the chick was.
Gaea blinked. Duke was a very difficult gryphon to figure out, that was for sure.
She trotted back in the direction where she'd left the little yellow chick, "He's over here," she giggled, nuzzling the sweet-smelling little guy gently and flicking her ears in Duke's direction, "Just enjoying the sunlight. He's a happy little guy."
Helios whicker-chirped in delight as he was nuzzled. Yay for attention again! And snugglings and stuff. All good things.

Skipping about the fields, Torini pranced around in a circle, bending down and snuffing at something. Pulling her head back, she wrinkled her nose as a tiny, red paw came hurtling towards her.
Nickering with amusement, Torini whinied at the thing below her. "Hey! Get up get up! It's morning get up!" she called to it.
Mushu, on the other hand, had other plans. They involved sleeping. Not listening to some happy-go-lucky morning gryph! It was early... the sun hadn't even reached the mid sky point! Curling into a tighter ball, Mushu whined and snorted. Women!
Crik Kee, on the other hand, was happily fluttering about. The mornings didn't bother him at all... he was a lucky horsefly afterall!
A mass of white fuzz and feathers bleated anxiously, she'd found herself away from warm people hands. Although she had no clue what a person looked like, she knew they were warm, and they had treats. The small chick bumbled around blind and semi-deaf to the world, bleating for the hands that should have come to pick her up. Moving was a disoriented feeling, and without knowing it she walked right into a tree; awfully near the little beast.
Gaea frolicked in circles around the fluffy yellow mass before her. She enjoyed watching him. The little guy -was- very entertaining, afterall! He'd roll around and snuffle the grass and stuff and he was cute and little and fluffy!
She paused a moment as he started crawling in one direction, following him with her nose snuffling the ground for any sense of danger! Even though it wasn't her job to protect this little chick, she thought it wasn't a bad idea. Even if there wasn't really any danger here anyhow. He could get stung by a bumblebee, afterall!
Helios crawled forwards. He was tired of lying about and rolling around at this point. He needed more entertainment! He had caught a sniff of a different smell from any other he had ever encountered before, and he was moving towards it. Maybe it'd be snuggly and warm. Or maybe interesting at the least. Interesting was good too.
Gaea spotted another chick lying about in the grass. She blinked, then trotted over to sniff at it. He was...strange. Stranger than any of the other chicks she'd seen! "Hmmmm...."
Pinning her wings back, Tori's brow furrowed as the little red moppet refused to do anything... interesting. She didn't remember being this boring when she was small.
Flicking her ears around, she got an idea in her head. She'd simply move him around! That was the ticket for sure! Reaching down, she did what her den mother had often done to her when she was small... picked him right up by the scruff of his neck!
Wow he was heavy!
Crik Kee stopped his fluttering around and eyes drew wider as the young Gryph picked up his friend. Uh oh..
Snorting awake again suddenly, Mushu let out a loud howl of annoyance. What was going on? Why was he in the air? And why did he smell morning breath!?
Ignoring the tiny one's pleas, and the fact that Mushu's butt was nearly dragging around on the ground, Tori turned about and looked around. Narrowing her gaze slightly, she made an attemptive grin, which proved difficult while having a mouthfull of fuzz, and began to trot in the direction of a familar face.
Gaea she believed. A friend of Duke's! And hey! She had some little ones as well with her! As she drew nearer, she blinked as she heard a strange, foreign sound to her. Bleating? It was then she noticed the... well it kinda looked like fur, white and pink... gryph? Anyways it was fumbling towards where Gaea and this other two chicks were...
How peculiar.
"Gwaeah!" She attempted to call out to the green Gryph.
Even though half deaf, Beast could infact hear the anxious bleating, and boy was it NOISY, he decided. So noisy in fact, that the lithe chick lifted his head from his front paws and sniffled the air angrily, hissing in annoyance at the general directiong of... well, the strangely noisy thing. Couldn't it see it was trying to sleep? How inconsiderate of it!
Beast would have none of this.
After directing a blind scowl towards the lamb, he snorted, grumbling as he curled up into a tighter ball. The day had not started well... all these ... things had been bothering him endlessly. But then again, there was little that didn't bother him, it was not poor Susan's fault in the least. As he had decided that perhaps ignoring the lamb would be the bst way to tackle the problem, a large female came forth, sniffling him.
This would just NOT do.
Snorting angrily, the Beast uncurled a paw and batted slightly at Gaea's maw, never hurting her, but rather... just pawing, almost as if trying to voice his obvious annoyance.
Gaea looked up from the chick she was sniffing (Beast), somehow managing not to notice the creature pawing at her, and peered at Torini curiously. Her eyes grew wide when she saw the red ball of fluff in the other's mouth, "Hey! That's a chick, isn't it? Do you really think you ought to be carrying him around and stuff? I don't think you're big enough. What if you hurt 'im?"
Helios made his slow way towards Beast, then stopped upon touching him and attempted to snuggle against him, taking in his scent to get the feel of him...but felt a paw hit him instead. He backed away a little bit. Hmmm....very odd indeed...and there was another strange smell coming towards them as well! He lifted his tiny fuzzy head to sniff at the little lamb-gryph
Susan's bleating stoped instantly as she took note of what she had run into, it was large but did not in the least smell like her favorite things, humans. She squished her nose against it trying to take in it's scent. It smelled like something alright, but not her human. What is that?
The fluffy chick could hear something, although muffled and was not at all sure what to make if it. They were not people voices, they sounded more like her to an extent. She leat out a slow bleat and shook her head from side to side as if to say, hello anyone there?
"Nw...Mm dwnf phnk hw'll bre hrff..." she knelt down and let the squabbling red fluffball down on the ground.
"I mean, no, I don't think he'll be hurt. Looks fine to me... boy he's awful loud though..." she mused slightly, shaking her head.
"Who are those chickies?" she asked, ignoring Mushu who'd curled up in a ball by this point, "I've not seen them before either!"
Stupid women folk. Mushu had a headache, and he wanted to go back to sleep! That Torini girl needed to go away. He knew she wouldn't though. She'd been around since she'd found him the other day. Seemed to have taken a shine to the little horned gryph.
Snorting into the grass, Mushu uncurled suddenly, while Torini was talking to Gaea, and started to slowly crawl away. He could hear others, smaller others. Probably closer to his size. At least, maybe, if he could get to them, he'd be saved another bumpy ride across the field.
"What a funny looking Gryph." Torini commented lightly on the lamb-gryph, changing the subject once again.
"Actually... they're all kinda... funny lookin'. 'Cept the yellow one..."
Gaea blinked, "They look different, but I don't think they look funny. All the little chicks are cute, in their own way." She trotted over to Mushu and nuzzled him very gently, making sure he was okay, "Well, you're right, he doesn't seem hurt, at least."
Helios made his way determinedly to the fluffy little lamb gryph, sniffing at her curiously and then snuggling against her. Maybe she'd be as much fun as the other warm spot he'd snuggled and played with yesterday!
Well, the other gryph didn't feel like people hands, but he sure was warm! She pushed against him lightly trying to absorb his heat. Even with wool-like fuzz she was still very cold in the open air, and she shivered slightly, letting out a slow content bleat. You're soft, I like you. was what she thought and she slightly dozed.
Growling angrily (which of course, taking in his size and his newborn voice, came out more like a frustrated kitten yowl), Beast voiced his displeasure at all this... this snuggling, bumping and rubbing against his body. In fact, he was allready pondering going on an odesy (read: walking another five meters away from these here gryphs, because of course... the chick was SURE he'd be the ONLY one capable of such a feat), never once did it cross his mind that the larger gryphs would not only be able to follow his stumbling frame, but if he could... most likely, the other small chicks could.
So thus, the Beast-like-chick got up and began to try and pad away, failing utterly as he stumbled down, tripping over his own legs, not to mention running right into poor susan, sending them both down in a mangled heap or cloack, fur and feathers.
How.... how EVIL!
How terribly eeeevil! Lifting his head up, the small male finally gave in and opened his eyes to take a look around, whinning noisely as he tried to paw his way out of the mess he'd caused, however, he swiftly closed them, for the light was simply too bright to bear; how terribly unfair...
"Yah, I know. See! No harm done!" Torini lifted her head triumphantly, as though to prove that she new exactly what she was doing in the first place.
Which was absolute bunk, but Gaea didn't need to know that.
"Hey! Look at that! So cute!" Torini trotted over to where Beast was attempting to move around.
"He's trying to walk!" she grinned and nickered at him. At least her shadow was casting over him now, cutting the light off from him slightly.
Mushu found himself getting closer, and closer to other, hopefully more calm, gryphs. Before he got there, however. He was intercepted by Gaea, who was checking to make sure he was okay. Of course he was okay though! He was the Great Mushu!
Gaea nuzzled him again, just to be sure, and then trotted back over to Helios and the new little lamb. She nuzzled both to make sure they were okay, since Beast had thumped into them, and then went back over to Torini, "We should watch these chicks!" she suggested to the other, "..Make sure nothing bad happens to them, 'n all. They're just babies! There are...there are...-bees- and things around here that could hurt 'em."
Helios was amused, more than anything else, by all the jostling going on. He chirped appreciatively when Gaea nuzzled him, and then rolled over to expose his belly to the morning sun-- his favourite pasttime. Mmm...so nice and snuggly warm! So was the little gryph next to him, really, though she seemed to be shivering. But she felt warm enough to him!

Gaea trotted back into the field. She'd left Helios with his den mother for a bit of a nap. A butterfly caught the little filly's attention, and she danced in circles around it while it fluttered on a flower before tiring of that and heading off in search of other entertainment.
Sora rested his little head between his paws. Little bud like ears twitching and bobbling above the mass of mane atop his head. The sound of foot falls in the soft grass making him pick his head up slightly and nose at the air curiously.
Gaea stops abruptly in front of the little chick, nuzzling him curiously. A couple of the chicks didn't seem to like being touched this morning, so she's a little more tentative about greeting the little guys. There are just so many of them! The spring, it seems, is the chick season!
The chick jolted at the sudden bump against his muzzle. Little head jerking back in surprise but then going back to nose at the odd feeling. The chick wuffled softly and tried to lean as far as he could sniffing at the stranger curiously, his little tail making failed atempts at a friendly wag.
Gaea knelt down next to the little guy, letting him wuffle and snuffle at her. He was pretty cute! Strange looking, in some ways, but cute nonetheless! All the little guys scattered throughout the field were, she thought.
Sora rocked slightly as he was knelt beside, pausing in his investigation long enough to make sure he wasn't going to tip over. The chick nosed into the fur of her side, the slightly heavy chain about his neck jingling as he atempted to use her side as a brace to sit up. The weight making it a slight problem.
Whickering softly, she couldn't help but 'aww' at the little chick's antics. Carefully, she did what she could to help him sit up, adjusting the chain a little bit so that maybe it wouldn't be quite so heavy on him. Of course, it probably did absolutely nothing, but hey, the effort's worth it!
Plopping down on his fump, the chick warbled happily at the thanks. The metal crown serving to anchor him to his seat as it sat heavily against his chest. Sora wriggled the toes of his gloved paws and gave Gaea a baby-smile, at least in her general direction when she whickers.
Gaea whickers back softly, nuzzling his fluffy hair gently. How could Duke not like chicks? They're so cute and cuddly and fluffy and fun! Well, maybe he didn't hate them. Maybe he was just being silly as usual. All that talk about always being big. Gaea was pretty sure all the gryphs were tiny chicks at some point! ...even if Duke was probably still bigger than her even when he was a chick.
Sora had no relation of size to speak of. The youngster only aware of himself and the occassional things around him. The blindness of youth keeping his life fairly simple for the time being. There was him and everything else and that's how it was. His little ears laid back as his hair was tousled and made even more wild by the nuzzling. He pawwed up at her.
Gaea laughed, letting the little one paw her-- she was pretty sure he wasn't trying to -hit- her or anything. Maybe he was. Maybe he didn't like her nuzzling him. Well, that was okay. She'd just sit there for a bit and see how he behaved! Chicks were all different, afterall, and behaved differently!
He wasn't trying to hit, per say. He was trying top play back with the friendly stranger. The pawing shifting him off balance slightly as he tumbled end over end backwards. He gave a slightly distressed squawk as the hood of his jacket flopped over his head. For the most part he was fine, stunned but fine.
Gaea giggled, attempting to help the little one by settling his hood back where it belonged and leaning a little against him in case he needed the support to get back to his feet properly.
Pouting, well as best as a hippogryph could pout anyway, Sora scrunched up his muzzle a little as his hood was moved off his head. He took the offered help to stand again, Finding his legs unsteady and just plops back down. He was happy to have the help and company.

Gaea frolicked merrily about the field as per usual. Silvanus fluttered close to her ears, chuckling to himself. He was greatly amused by the little filly's antics.
Splashing through one of the many streams comes along that white little pinto boy Duke! He's getting a little bigger one would notice but nothing too fantastic. He gallops up alongside Gaea's left flank, leaping up to paw at her ear before he hits the ground, resuming a nice walking pace matching hers.
"Hellloooo!"
Having settled himself by the shade of a nearby tree lay the Beast, his ears perking slightly as his instinct suddenly told him that someone was rapidly approaching his lovely shady spot. Now, you must understand that Beast had found the spot all by himself; not only that, but it'd taken him a good long while to reach it too, and tell truth... he did not feel like sharing.
Not in the least.
Specially not when one took into account that the last time strangers had come near him he'd been shoved, pushed, and later bitten by one of them; it had not been a good experience in the least, and needless to say, he did not take to the idea of Duke or Gaea nearing him all too nicely. Being blind, however, he was unable to glare, and settled for a mild growling and bristling which gave away his current spot. Never did it cross his mind that it would've been better to stay silent and ignore them, hoping they'd go away.
THen again... Beast was very young, and had many things still yet to learn; particularly, that some insects stung, and were better left alone and not eaten, but that's a diferent story.
Gaea spun in delight upon spotting her friend, nuzzling his neck gently in greeting...and then jumped about a foot in the air when she heard Beast's growling. It wasn't that she was afraid of him, but the random, sudden sound had startled her. She hadn't even seen him lying about in the grass.
Silvanus fluttered over to the little guy, eyeing him curiously.
Duke turns a little red at the nuzzling, ears flagging down against his head and he gives her a sheepish grin. That grin is lost when he hears the growl, his ears lifting, blinking as he turns his head in the direction of where the noise had come from. He had been momentarily startled but not in the same extent that Shiaree had been.
"Wow. What was that?" His curiosity gets the best of him because he starts to walk over, cautiously, because he didn't know what it was and he didn't want to walk onto a slumbering predator and be attacked.
When he gets closer he discovers it's nothing more than a Hippogryph newborn! Albeit a deformed one. It makes him tilt his head in curiosity, especially when Silvanus comes fluttering by around him. He lifts a paw up to brush away the little Horsefly.
"Aw, come on, leave him alone. He's tired. Can't you see?"
More than tired, however, Beast was just rather grumpy, for after all, a newborn like him lacked the real ability to be evil; all the matter was the fact he'd had a really bad first impression of 'others'.
His opinion on the matter was not about to wabber, specially not when he felt the horsefly start to flutter around him; instincts told him it was lunch, however, something else told him perhaps his instincts were wrong. Nevertheless, the chick raised his head, growled a couple of times more and bucked his head several times, in a clear attempt to use his horns againts the smaller creature. After having failed to hit it, he attempted to snap his maw closed over it, failling severly once more; after all, being blind was a great disadvantage.
Duke's voice came clear through the haze of partial deafness, and at his words, the chick wrinkled his nose, almost as if to try and let the other know that THAT... was not really the real problem here.
Silvanus blinked, dodging the chick's attempts to eat him or hurt him, and flew over onto Gaea's withers, peering out cautiously from behind her. This chick was -scary-!
Gaea was not so intimidated. She'd seen this little guy before, "Aw, he's a bit of a bully, Duke. I'd be careful."
"Is he?" he answers, tilting his head as he looks over the strange little boy in front of him. "I don't blame him. He probably gets picked on a lot." His tail twitches behind him, but he makes no move to touch and poke and prod at Beast; he didn't want to get bit because he looks more than just harmless.
"Have you met him before?" he looks over his shoulder at the female curiously.
Now bully was perhaps too harsh a word; perhaps misunderstood was more along Beast's lines, but of course, the chick was in no position to defend himself, and thus merely wrinkled his nose in annoyance at the older female. What did she know anyhow? that weird lamb had bit him first... was was he to do? Let her and not respond? Sadly... Beast was not about to be pushed and not push back, for he had yet to learn the leason concerning that.
He did, however, appreciate the fact the older male was not shoving, pushing or otherwise poking him in any sort of random way, and thus thrilled softly in appreciation. Specially since he'd determined this one was smarter than the rest he'd had the displeasure of meeting thus far; it was a nice change.
Ignorance was not a bliss...
At least not for the Beast, and so, slowly, he raised his head, his growlings having ceased, in order to sniff about the air, his nostrils flaring as he took in Gaea's allready familiar scent and Duke's strangely new one. Not bad... not bad at all; perhaps he should give this whole 'others' thing a try, as it seemed not all of them were daft.
Gaea nodded, "Yeah, he pushed Helios around a bit 'n was swatting at some of us and growling and stuff. Just like he did with Silvanus."
She trotted back over to Duke and rested her chin on his withers thoughtfully, "He doesn't seem very happy. Mebbe you're right and he does get picked on."
"Maybe he's just tired and grumpy because he hasn't had a nap," he suggests, taking note that Beast had yet to actually attack him. He blinks, tilting his head to look back as she rests her head on his hindquarters, making his tail drop between his legs and another little red on his cheeks, turning quickly so that she can't see.
This is when he notices that the boy is lifting his head up and so he drops his own to sniff gently back at him. "He seems okay to me."
Sniffling slightly at the maw offered, the Beast pushed slightly against it; it was little contact, but willing all the same, and thus, alltogether important for a chick who had aborted all contact but that of his den mother and few select others.
A soft thrill escaped him before he turned to face the female, a frown coming over his features; recoiling slightly away before he curled up again. Perhaps Duke was right, and the grumpy chick merely needed a rest and a bit of time to doze off... or perhaps, just perhaps, he just needed to spend more time beside others and learn to trust them. Whatever the cause, Beast endded up merely yawning, opening his maw wide to display sharp needle like fangs before tucking his head under his wings, obviously trying to give sleep a second chance.
It was amusing though for he was no longer growling, nor was he all that angry with the fact the other two were still there in the least. In fact, he seemed quite content for the time being. Interesting how such a little thing likea sniff had done the trick.
Gaea blinked at the little guy, sulking a little bit. "I guess he doesn't like me much," she pouted, taking her head from Duke's withers and settling in the grass with her head on the ground to watch him.
He sniffs back gently, his ears swiveling then he pulls back when the little boy tucks his head down and seems to go right back to sleep. He had seen those teeth, blinked at them; he had never seen a Hippogryph with teeth like that! Especially at a young age.
He turns his attention to Gaea and smiles at her. "I think he just needs a nap. Let's leave him alone and go somewhere else?" he suggests with a hopeful tone in his voice. Without waiting for an answer, he starts to walk slowly past her but there is an air to his step that is hesitant, waiting on her to follow.
Gaea pulled quickly enough out of her pouting, hopping gracefully to her feet and trotting after Duke, "Well, maybe. I dunno. I guess maybe he just heard me say those things about him..but he -did- seem like he was being a little bit of a bully when I first met him. Pushing around all those other gryph chicks...but...he was nice to you, so he can't be all bad, I guess."
She tilted her head thoughtfully, "Want to play a game?"
"Maybe they were being mean to him?" he suggests but then shrugs his shoulders. "We're all kinda weird when we're babies I think. I wouldn't worry. He reminds me of that little blue guy who comes around."
He glances around, noticing that the sun is starting to slowly set. It's so nice out! He smiles and looks to her. "What kind of game?"
Gaea feels comforted by Duke's words, and so calms down a bit. Maybe he's right, it's just because he's a chick or something. That other blue chick didn't really like her much either...maybe just not all chicks were like Helios.
She stretched, enjoying the little bit of breeze that game with the sunset and ruffled her wings a bit, "Oh, I dunno. I guess we could play tag. I could call Silvanus back over so we'd have three. Or, maybe hide 'n seek."
"I dunno. We play those a lot," he points out, swiveling his ears. "We oughta come up with a new game to play." Though that's something that is easier said than done. He never could think of any new kinds of games himself.
"We gotta find more people to play with! I wonder why no one ever comes out."
Gaea sighed. She was getting a little tired of tag and hide-n-seek too. "I don't know....maybe we could go swimming?"
She nodded at his queries, "It is weird that there aren't really any other foals most of the time! Just the chicks lying about. And they're not that much fun to play with, even if they are awfully cute to look at."
"Maaaybe. Swimming would be a lot more fun. We don't go swimming a lot." And the seasons were getting hotter so it'd be a lot more fun.
"I guess they're cute," he answers, making a face and laughing afterwards. "We need to find more foals though. Maybe there are some out by the water." And he breaks out into a nice gallop towards one of the nearby rivers.
Gaea grinned, "Allright!" she galloped after him, deciding not to comment any more about finding other foals. Really, she was content to play with Duke, as he was plenty of fun. And with Silvanus and Helios, of course. She had all the friends she needed..
She splashed into the river, whinnying excitedly as the droplets fell from her dripping wings and fluttering them to spray everything in sight.
He himself, being a boy, preferred the company of more than just a single girl. He'd have to come looking for more. It was actually pretty disappointing because he didn't know much anyone in his flock, which was a rather small one in itself, oddly enough. Maybe that would change.
He doesn't immediately jump into the water but instead weaves off to a nearby rock that he struggles to climb up on then eventually gets up to. He wriggles his butt then leaps forward, pulling his lower paws up to curl into a fetus position, shouting, "FEATHER BALL"!
Then.
SPLASH!
"Eeep!" Gaea whinnies as she soaked by the splash Duke creates, she laughs, nipping at him playfully, "Heeeeeey!" she teases, "Next time, a little warning!"
Gaea, fortunately, didn't suffer from that. She was more solitary by nature-- probably an indication of her future of delving into knowledgeable things, rather than interacting with many other gryphs. For now, though, she just enjoyed having a really good friend, a fun little horsefly, and a cute little chick to guard.
He lifts his head up out of the water, spitting out some and grinning, his fur and feathers sticking to his body. He grunts when she nips, lifting a paw up to push playfully at her face to get her away. He has noticed she's being rather weird in the way she treats him but it's not enough to bother him or warrant concern.
"No way. You don't give warnings on that!"
Gaea ducks her head under the water, watching the fish go by for as long as she can, then picks it back up, "Well, whatever," she says, shaking out the fur on her head as she does so.
He rolls his eyes, snickering as he starts to push his body through the water, his paws pushing against the ground and bounding through the stream when he can.
"You're just upset that I got you all wet. We came here to swim so what's it matter?"
Gaea pouted, "That's not it!" she protested, "I just don't like to be surprised!" She flicked her ear back and forth, climbing to the banks of the stream and settled on a rock, staring back down at him, "I don't think I want to swim anymore. I'll just watch you."
"Whaaatever," he answers, dipping his head into the water then lifting it up, throwing back his sad excuse for a mane to flick water at her. He blinks, stopping to watch her climb out. "Why don't you wanna swim anymore?" He sounds concerned, looks it as he paddles over towards her and climbs up onto the bank to join her.
Gaea shrugs, looking away from him, "I dunno." She stares off at the sunset. That's kind of pretty, at least. But something feels different. She doesn't really want to play anymore. Maybe she'll just go find her den mother and go home. Maybe she's just tired.
He frowns now notably concerned. He shakes his body -- a good ways away from her for the record -- to rid it of the excess water. Slowly he walks back to her, tilting his head around to look at her face. "Are you okay Gaea? You seem down all of a sudden."
Gaea sighed, "I don't think I feel so good all of a sudden." She got to her feet, moved off a bit to shake off, and peered at him, "I might go home.."
He pins his ears back at this, frowning more. "Um... okay... How about I walk you home? You know. Just in case something happens?" He felt silly for asking but maybe she'd like some of the extra company.
Gaea smiled, nuzzling him a little, "That's okay," she said, "You don't have to." And with that, she took off.

Gaea trotted out into the meadows, gently settling little Helios in a patch of sunlight where she knew he'd enjoy it. She curled up next to him, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the growing things next to her. She was feeling a bit better-- she didn't know what had gotten into her yesterday, but she was still feeling just a little lethargic.
Helios snuggled contentedly against what was quickly becoming one of his favourite gryphs. He could recognize her by scent, at least, and she took good care of him. Not like his mother, of course, but good enough.
That sun is blocked out momentarily as Duke's large body comes into view, hovering over the two curled up gryphs.
"Do you feel better today Gaea?" he inquires, the concern noted in his voice because he was worried she hadn't gotten any better.
Susan had wandered away from her human, yet again. She knew her by scent of course, and slightly by voice. But this time she was not wandering because she was lost, merely because she wanted to find that soft thing she cuddled. She had her head down, sniffing the ground, her head moving from side to side. She smelled something, maybe not her soft thing, but something like it. She inhaled quickly, a plant had tickled her nose and she was trying her best not to sneeze. "Acchoo!" too late, anything in the area would have heard that sneeze.
Gaea looked up at her friend, and smiled softly, "Yeah...m'okay now. Sorry I ran off on you like that." She clambered clumsily to her feet-- a feat usually accomplished with a lot more grace, "D'you wanna go swimming again or something?"
Helios caught the familiar scent of Susan and started crawling off in that direction. Yay for snuggly friends!
"What about him?" he inquires, blinking as he looks down to see the little yellow chick starting to scooch across the earth, and that's also when he had heard the sneeze.
His ears swivel and he turns in the direction of where it came from. Without waiting on a response from Gaea -- he's used to her following him wherever he goes -- he heads in that direction to find the very fluffy little lamb like Gryph.
"Wow! Lookit this one! There's so many little babies around now."
Susan made an anxious bleat at the sound of voices, one sounded slightly familiar the other was new to her. Don't bite me, don't, don't! she pleaded in her mind and flopped down against the ground trying to hide in the grass. The bite the Beast gave her hadn't healed yet, but the dried blood had been wiped away carefully by her human.
Gaea blinked, looking at Helios again, "Hey. Where are you going, Helios?" she asked the little guy, trotting over to him. She nosed him gently, trying to make sure she had his attention.
Helios stopped when Gaea nosed him, making pleased, purring like noises and nuzzling her back, and then headed again towards the little bleating creature he recognized. Gaea was nice, but he wanted a cuddling buddy his own size!
The filly followed Helios, peering at the little lamb chick curiously, "Oh."
He frowns when he hears the anxious little bleating sounds, something he's never heard before.
"Wow, is it okay?" he inquires, tilting his head as he watches the little yellow chick scurry closer to obviously get comfortable with the lamb. All of this is intriguing Duke who's never seen the lamb before and therefore isn't aware that it's possibly him that's scaring her.
She caught the scent of Helios in her nose and scooted closer to him, still staying low to the ground. She poked her nose against the yellow chick and a soft bleat escaped. Duke's voice was muffled, but she could almost make out concern in his tone. Maybe it wont bite?
Gaea watched the goings-on with a mild interest. The filly settled in the grass again. She'd just enjoy the grass and the trees and earthliness for a few minutes. Let them get reacquainted. "I dunno. She seems to make those noises a lot."
Helios curled up next to Susan, snuffling her a bit first and then settling contentedly at her side and making a few reassuring, chirpy noises..not that she could really hear him all that well, but the effort was there anyhow.
Duke shrugs his shoulders and sits down next to Gaea, his tail swaying behind him, it too growing out in length along with the rest of his body. His ears swiveling as he watches. "I wonder where it comes from. I've never seen it before. I've never seen one that looks like it either." He was seeing new things every day now, especially in the terms of Hippogryphs.
She wished she had a way to communicate, even if she wasn't sure what that was. She wanted to ask the others where their humans were. She smelled Helios again, taking in his scent and made a face and noise quiet close to a yawn. She was tired from walking, and she found her destination.
Gaea rested her head on her forepaws, tilting it a bit so she could still watch Duke, "It does seem a little different from the rest of the chicks. Then again, so did that one yesterday."
She stretched her paws forward a little bit, each digit on them digging neatly into the dirt. She picked them up and looked at them carefully, then shook the dirt away.
"My mother said that there's just a lot of chicks 'cause it's spring and that's when the most chicks are born."
Helios rolled over contentedly on his back, soaking in the sunshine on his belly. He liked that. And he liked the fluffy warm chick next to him. Then again, he liked just about everything. Helios wasn't a difficult chick to please.
"Yeah. I wonder what's going on..." he mumbles a little distantly, obviously wondering if maybe there was some kind of plague going around that was hurting everyone! Oh what if he was next!? Well, actually the changes seemed pretty interesting so far. He shrugs.
"Oh. I guess that makes sense. We're different though. We were born earlier. I wonder how many more will be around. I hope not a lot. We need more friends to play with."
Gaea blinked, "Maybe she's just from the South. I haven't met any chicks from the South yet-- maybe they all look like that." That seemed a pretty safe guess.
She shrugged at his comment, "I dunno. Maybe -you- need more friends to play with. I think I have enough, really. Besides, mother says that soon I'm going to be big enough to start learning lots of stuff and I'll be staying in the East more often."
"I haven't either.. Then again I haven't seen much from my own flock either," he answers.
A blink when she goes on to say this next comment, frowning. His ears flag back against his head; that was a little harsh on her part. "Does that mean we won't get to see each other anymore?"
He looks at her, the frown still on his face. He'd hate for that to be true.
She blinks, then reaches over to nuzzle him gently, "Naw. I'd never let -that- happen." She smiled, "You're more fun than any learning, I think."
She didn't really realize how harsh her words had sounded. Really, this problem had been on her mind a bit ever since her mother had told her about it. She wanted to learn all sorts of new stuff to be like her mother, but she didn't want to give up her playtime with Duke and Silvanus.
"What is it you have to learn anyway?" he inquires, very unsure as to what exactly might have to be learned. He himself was learning to fly, something he was picking up well enough but he was never going to be some magnificent racer. He was very clumsy even if it didn't show when he walked.
Gaea peered at him a second, closing one eye in an attempt to look as if she's analyzing him inside and out, "Well....I guess I can tell -you-...I gotta learn about...magic and stuff. Flying and science and all sorts of stuff. There's lots of stuff to learn about. And if I learn enough I can maybe be like my mother. Though, I don't know if I wanna be -all- the way like her. She has to do a lot of things she doesn't like. And I don't think she gets to play much."
"Magic huh? We don't know any magic. I don't think. Maybe we do. There's a lot I don't know about my flock. We're pretty care free. I think." Well Duke himself is.
"I think though we all have to do things we don't like to do. Just because we have to and because it's right," he answers, dropping his head down to scratch behind his head with a hind paw. It drops down and he sits back up again, tail swaying behind him.
"Guess we'll see what happens."
Gaea nods, "Well, we don't have any magic -yet-, but we -will-. That's why I have to learn about it." She nodded thoughtfully, then shook her head at his comment, "I don't know. Why should anybody have to do something they don't want to do? Maybe I'll be like that one gryph who ran off on his own and disappeared! Then I wouldn't have to do anything but what I wanted to do."
"Oh, I see. And we have to do things we don't because it's a part of life. If we always did what we wanted then things wouldn't get done. If someone didn't want to hunt they'd go hungry, right? But I mean, we eat grass so that's good. But.. let's say we run out of grass. We have to go and find some but we don't want to. We go hungry. And what one Gryph?" he echoes in curiosity. "Even if you were by yourself you'd still have to do things you didn't want, I think."
Gaea blinks, "That seems a little silly. Who isn't going to want to go get grass if they're hungry?"
She peers at him curiously, "And...well, there was this one gryph in my flock, and he left. And we never saw him again. Mother said he went to make his own flock, maybe, somewhere else."
"Well, let's say you live where I live. There isn't a lot of grass so we're constantly moving to find new places to graze."
He tilts his head, and nods. "Oh, I see... You can do that? Make your own flocks?" He blinks.
"Yeah, but what I'm saying is, if you're hungry, you're going to want to find grass, so you'll go find grass. Who's gonna not want to eat even when they're hungry?"
She nipped lazily at a flower petal as it floated past on the breeze, and shrugged, "I don't know if you can make your own flock. That's just what my mother said maybe he did. I think maybe he just wanted to go live by himself."
"I dunno. Sometimes I don't wanna eat when I'm hungry," he answers with a mild shrug of his shoulders. "I wonder if you can. I think you can. I mean how else do flocks get formed?"
Gaea regards him curiously, "What, you're going to run off and make your own flock?" She asked softly. She definitely wouldn't like that. Then she'd really never see him again. "But, probably can. I don't know. You'd probably have to have a couple other gryphs to go with you. Otherwise, how could you consider it a flock, right?"
"Maybe," he answers while climbing to his feet, deciding he wanted to go for a walk. "You can always come with me, you know," he adds with a laugh afterwards while his ears wriggle.
"That way we can always be together and your mom won't make you stay back at home!"
She snorted, getting to her feet, "Yeah, but we'd have to find other gryphs to come with us. You'd get bored of just me..."
She let that hang and stretched out a bit, following him. She didn't really feel like lying about anymore either, come to think of it. She was feeling much better now.
"I bet we could find more," he announces despite the fact that they've been running into smaller chicks as of late. "All we gotta do is keep an eye out and maybe we'll luck out. It'd be great. No one to boss us around, we'd be the top Gryphs!" He sounds very excited about this probability now.
Gaea tilts her head thoughtfully, "Well, but, first we'd have to -find- the other gryphs. You were just sayin' that we really haven't found any others our age. How're we going to find enough to make a flock?"
Not that that was a -real- worry. But hey, if they could find some now, they could make a pretend flock! That'd be fun.
He exhales a sigh, flagging his ears back against his head. He makes a face at her, maybe one of mild annoyance, but it's really hard to tell because there's a glint in his eyes that says he's kidding.
"Well, I dunno. I guess we'll just have to wait around. I mean we can always just stay in our own flocks.." but he doesn't sound very keen on this idea if only because he's still thinking about Gaea's words from earlier of how she wouldn't be around much anymore, if at all.
Oz could hear the voices of other gryphs as he munched on his lunch. He was worried only for a moment that they might come over and try to snag this particularly good bunch, but then realized he had pretty much eaten his fill already anyway.
She nips at him playfully, "We could make a pretend flock, though! That'd be fun! ...if we could find some other gryphs. I mean, chicks are easy enough to find, but they can't do anything!"
She trotted off ahead of him, dodging around thick clumps of grass. It was hard to avoid crushing -any- blades, but she could at least minimize the damage. "Or we could just pretend there are other gryphs too."
"Maaybe... Yeah, we can do that!" He sounds happier now, bouncing through the grass. "Pretending is fun. I bet we could pretend we're fighting off dragons or something too!" He puffs out his chest, which has started to get a little tuft of fur down there, obviously meant to be a part of his mane.
That's when he spots another gryph. Excitedly he points in that direction. "Hey, hey, look! Another Gryph! Let's go see if they'll play!" And without waiting he darts over there as fast as his legs can carry him.
Oz sees the large brown and white figure coming toward him, and has an odd flash of memory as if this exact same scenario has played out before. He swishes his tail and crouches to the ground waiting to see if the other gryph is going to try and bowl him over, for the large gryph was coming at him at quite a quick clip.
Gaea turns around abruptly, knowing that Duke is likely to have gone ahead and moved off in the other direction rather than waiting for her. She blinks, noticing the other (albeit smaller) gryph, trotting gracefully over to him as well, though still a rather decent distance behind the older gryph.
But Duke stops just in time to avoid running over the little Gryph!
"Hey! I think I've seen this one before," he announces happily, tail wagging behind him. He drops his head and it looks like he's going to go and eat from Oz's bunch of grass but he doesn't; he just focuses his eyes on the mule colored Gryph.
"What's your name? Do you got a name? I'm Duke! And that, that's Gaea!" He swivels his head in the direction of the female.
Oz nips at Duke when he leans in, in a threatening way. His lack of hunger not getting in the way of his need to protect what he is pretty sure belongs to him.
Names Oz. He replied snatching another clump in his mouth in a possesive way. Swallowing quickly he continued, I think I do know you, but I was just a baby then.
Gaea laughed, "S'that so?" she asked, coming a little closer to him and nodding in greeting, "Yeah, I'm Gaea. Jeez, you're one of the two other gryphs I've seen that -isn't- still a chick."
He grunts when nipped, wriggling his nose and jerking his head away. "Hey, come on now!" he scowls at the boy, taking a few steps back and away from him, lifting a forepaw up to rub at his nose. "Sheesh..."
His ears pin back, glancing at Gaea as she comes up alongside of him. "Yeah, we don't see many others..."
Oz looks at the female and nods a hello with a half smile. It does get quiet around here. He nods, and I don't mind the chicks, they get annoying you just roll em over. He smiled in a mischevious way. He looked up at the two older gryphs and had to ask, do you guys fly?
Gaea shook her head, "It's not that I mind the chicks, but you can't really play with them much 'cause they can't move fast or see or anything..."
She blinked at his comment about rolling them over and looked at Duke, then back at this new guy, "Er...well, not just yet, we can't. Well, I can't. I don't think Duke can either, can you?"
"Ha... It's been pretty loud around here lately," he mumbles with a gentle shrugging of his shoulders. "Fly? Yeah I can fly!" Sort of he thinks but he wouldn't exactly voice that part out loud.
"I can a little," he mumbles at Gaea, flattening his ears back. "I'm just not too great. Do you guys wanna see?"
Oz nodded in the afirmative. He wanted to fly more than watch this other gryph fly. But you can't have everything, or at least that is what his flock had told him. Was it hard to learn? He asked curious.
Gaea peered at him. Well, he -had- been getting bigger lately. She couldn't really be too surprised, "Sure, I'd like to see," she replied, wondering what -else- he might be keeping secret from her.
"I bet you would," he retorts, puffing out his chest, waggling his ears as he starts to strut off and away from the two of them.
A Hippogryph couldn't just flap their wings and lift themselves off the ground; they were a little too heavy for that so they required them to get a nice run and jump to get up into the air. He stops a few yards away, spreading out his wings, stretching them to their full span.
"It's a little hard, but it's fun," he answers, pawing at the ground. He wriggles his butt, flaps his wings slightly before tucking them loosely against his body.
Then he bolts forward, feet crushing the ground beneath him as he runs through the open field, opening his wings up just as he leaps up into the air to catch a draft! Then up he gooooooooes!
Oz wiggled stretching his tiny tiny wings and tried to flutter them, imitating Dukes stretch and flapping as he watched Duke prepare and then take off. It looked so simple! He thought to himself, wondering if it really was as easy as all that. The draft of wind that picked Duke up ruffled through his short soft fur and he clicked in approval of the newly molted Duke. He'd seen plenty of gryphs flying and landing, but it occured to him, he hadn't really watched any of them take off before.
Gaea sat down in the grass, watching Duke with an awed expression. She had seen that he had grown a bit, but, she hadn't realized just how -much- he'd grown until now.
...the idea made her just a little sad. Would he stop playing with her because he was big now? She hoped not..
He had been a little nervous that he'd screw up but that hadn't happened, much to his relief! His large wings powerfully flap as he rises higher and higher before tucking them against his body and diving down towards the earth. It looks like he's actually going to crash but he opens his wings just in time to skim over the ground and hit it with his paws, galloping across until he deems to slow down, at which point he turns around in a full circle back towards the two of them.
If he had any intentions of abandoning her, it must not be now because he's right there with the two of them, dropping his head. "Come on, let's all go play somewhere!"
Oz nodded to the idea of play. He hadn't had many others to play with recently, and even though these two were bigger, he had a feeling they wouldn't bully him like the members of his own flock did. What should we play? He asked almost relaxing and for once and nearly smiling.
Gaea relaxed visibly when Duke came back over to them, and grinned at the both of them, "We should make our own flock! There're three of us now...though really, we should have more, but, this should be okay for now! We can pretend the rest of the flock..."
"I bet if we keep looking we'll find more," he states, still as silly and childish as ever. He glances down at Oz, grinning. "Let's just see if we can find someone to play with first."
And without saying a word he leans down to pluck up Oz by the scruff of his neck in his mouth, much like a mother cat would do for her kitten and turns his head to set him on his back. "This way you don't get left behind since you're smaller than us!"
Oz struggled and squirmed at being picked up but gave up based mostly on the fact that it wasn't doing him any good. I'm not that small. He stuck his tongue out at the back of Duke's head, now sitting quite comfortablyl on his back. Though in reality... he really was that small, he just couldn't admit it.
Why would we make our own flock? Is there something wrong with yours? He asked Gaea as he layed down and made himself a little Duke bed between Duke's shoulders.
Gaea shook her head, "There's nothing wrong with our flocks. But, we thought it'd be fun to have our own." She trotted alongside Duke, peering at Oz curiously as he stuck his tongue out at the older gryph, "Where d'you think we'll find some more gryphs to join?"
He chuckles at Oz, but says nothing in response to that. "Yeah.. Nothing wrong at all," he answers but he sounds doubtful. He didn't really know anything about his flock, which was considerably small in size.
"I dunno. I think all we can do is keep walking and hope we find more people." His steps are slow so that Gaea can keep up and also gentle so that Oz doesn't fall off.
Oz seems to consider these things. I like my flock, and I'm going to rule it some day. He says with a hearty growl and a nod. Though I suppose there aren't very many of us right now. Then he shrugged, if we started our own flock, wouldn't that one be smaller than the ones we're in already?
Gaea shrugs, "That depends on how many other gryphs we find to join us!" she smiles, appreciating Duke's attempts to keep back with her, as she really can't keep up properly otherwise, "Besides, this is just a pretend flock. We're not -really- making our own flock."
He can't help but laugh at Oz's enthusiasm, glancing over his shoulder to grin at him. "There's not alot of us over in mine either.. We're pretty small. I think it's because the two legged things like to catch us."
His tail dangles behind him as they go through the long grass, Duke easily overlooking it now with his height. His ears swiveling in every which way and direction to listen. "Yeah. It's just for pretend. And I rule this pretend flock," he adds with a grin.
Two legged things? Oz was learning all kinds of new things today. I'll be a warrior then and protect the flock. And he stood up on Duke's back puffing out his chest. He really did like being this high up and he imagined he was Duke and not just riding on his back.
Gaea peered up at him, "You said I could rule too," she prodded, nudging him with her nose gently, "There can be two rulers."
"Yeah.. I think they're call 'Hoo-muns.' I think that's what my mom said. I'm not sure though."
His head tilts to look down at Gaea when she nudges, grinning sheepishly at her, looking dorkier than ever. "Uh.. Yeah, I did say that huh? OKay, okay, fine."
Huu-mains? Oz played with the word. Well if I see any I'll chase them off. They won't catch anyone from our flock. He snorted as a way of showing he meant it. But then realized he had no idea what a two legged looked like.
Gaea tilts her head thoughtfully, "I've never seen one of them before. What do they look like, Duke?" she asks, trying even harder to keep up with him now that she was co-ruler of their flock.
He nods at Oz. "Well, I don't know if they go where you are... I know they live pretty close to my flock." He shakes his head at Gaea. "I don't know. I've never seen one..."
Then, he stops suddenly, his ears lifting up. "Hey.. hey... HEY! I have an idea!" he jerks his head down to look at Gaea. "Let's go check them out! I bet we can get pretty close without them catching us and we can see what they look like!"
Oz seconds the idea immediately. Yeah! That's a great idea! He swished his tail excitedly, is it very far though? My nurse might get worried. He looked over his shoulder wondering what had happened to the caretaker. Probably more concerned about the babies, he thought.
Gaea looked back at Duke, then at little Oz. He was still little more than a chick...and..well, she wasn't exactly as fast as Duke was, herself. "I don't know..." she stammered, looking down at the grass, "It'd be fun, but...what if we couldn't all get away? I mean....I'm not as fast as you are, and neither is Oz...and neither of us can fly or anything.."
"Well, you can run fast... You can carry Oz and well, if they get close, I'll chase them away?" he suggests, not sure now himself because she had brought up some very valid points. There goes that idea. It would have been fun too.
I run fast enough. He said with a snort and jumped off of Duke's back and took off at full tilt as if to show he could outrun these two legged hoomans.
(he just gets better looking with each molt.. ^__^
edit: Sorry about the absence, I'm trying to pack and post at the same time. xD)
The filly sighed, looking at Duke again and then at Oz, "Well.....well, okay. I trust you Duke, but...I dunno. We need to definitely keep a distance or we'll get hurt, I think. We can look at them, but let's not tempt fate."
That made sense. She'd try to keep the others safe if she could. Or at least Duke. She could probably convince him to do the right thing if she tried hard enough, at least. Oz she wasn't sure about. He looked like he might do it if Duke said, though...
He tilts his head to watch as Oz leaps to the ground, his ears perking forward as he keeps his eyes firmly planted on him and watches him take off into a run. He snickers then looks to the filly next to him, smiling in that goofy smile of his.
"We'll keep far enough from it, Gaea. But we can always wait until tomorrow. It is kind of getting late." The truth was the air was getting cooler because dusk was approaching and he didn't like the idea of traveling at night anyway.
With a bounce in his step, he leaps forward, turning to look over his shoulder and wing at Gaea. "Come on!" And with that he takes off into a run after the younger colt.
Oz kept running but suddenly came to a halt when his den mother showed her face and looked a bit angrily at both him and the older gryphs. She was being very apparent about her wishes without actually saying anything. Oz snorted at her, but decided against making her mad.
I've got to go. But you'll take me to see them soon right? He was pretty sure he'd be in trouble if he mention the two leggeds in front of her.
Gaea nodded her agreement with Duke, "I think that's a good idea...waiting until tomorrow, I..." She stopped abruptly when the older gryph showed up, "euh...yes...of course we will," she assured the younger gryph.
Duke comes to a skidding halt when he sees that look, grinning at the older female. He nods, looking down at Oz, "Sure will! I'll look out for ya tomorrow. It was nice seeing you again!"
Gaea reached over to nuzzle Duke gently, "I've got to get back to the den mothers now. I'll see you tomorrow, and then we'll go have a look at your hoo-mans, okay?"

Chewing at the fabric of his sleeves, Sora wiggles his little ears at the various sounds around him. He sneezes as the grass tickles his muzzle slightly.
Gaea hears the sneeze from not too far away and comes trotting over, spotting the adorable little gryph she'd seen the other day, "Why, hello again!" she says softly, reaching down to nuzzle him in greeting. It doesn't really matter that he can't hear her very well-- she enjoys at least going through the motions of a proper greeting.
Sora perks at the growingly familiar voice over head and peers up with that same baby smile he usually has. Wagging his little tail lopsidedly as he wobbles to his feet. The chick chirping as he follows the nuzzling to lead himself to stand between her front paws away from the evil shoots of grass.
Gaea whickers softly at the little guy, lying down so that he can use her to prop himself up if he feels it necessary, "You're so cute!" She smiled softly to herself. She'd been awfully busy studying lately, and it felt nice to have a little break.
