Great. This was just ******** great. All the applications for sprogglets that he'd put into service in the past were finally coming through...now that he had twelve kids and was (ugh, how gross) expecting two more to follow.
Patrick tromped his colorful a** towards the house he was told to go to, dressed in casual jeans and a long sleeved, baggy overshirt. It hid his stomach and that was the main concern. Once the place loomed into view, he just...stood there, for a long moment, eyes on it with a little pursed-lip expression of a man about to be exicuted.
At least Mordread had been stunningly good about the whole thing - including his lovers mood swings. The thought of having a civil-war started and mass-murdering child in the house didn't bother the cat-thing after Penelope came along. At least this one would be a baby.
Hesitantly, his hand rose up, his throat cleared itself, and then he knocked uncerimonously against the door.
"Hello?"

"Build up your confidence, so you can be on top for once! WAKE UP WHO CARES ABOUT LITTLE BOYS THAT TALK TOO MUCH!" Archie galloped around the room, straddling his mop and singing 90s classic after 90s classic. He hadn't been on Gaia in the 90s to witness this damn fine music firsthand, but he was making up for it now in spades.
Dixie stood in the hall, hands on her hips, a position she had been taking more and more since Archie had arrived home. When he stopped in front of her, prepared to deliver the kickinest mop guitar solo ever witnessed, she smacked the do-rag off of his head. "You're an idiot!" she screamed over the music. She started over to the stereo, but stopped when she heard a knock. At least her ears were good for something. "Someone's here!" she hissed, turning the volume down to a more managable level.
Oh yeah, there was a kid coming today! Archie dropped his mop and hurried over to the door, swinging it open and addressing the extensively pierced man on the other side with a smile. "Hi there. You must be here to pick up a baby?" Archie certainly hoped so, otherwise this guy might be inclined to call the cops soon.

Patrick jumped slightly, blinking a little bit at the man who answered the door. Luckily, he'd grown rather... immune... to such oddities around Gaia and so just gave a quick smile to the man. A man?
"Yeah. A baby. Another baby." He blinked once more, hopping back just a mild step. "Is it - he? - is he here yet?"

"A baby, yeah! Come in! He's not here yet, but it never takes long." Archie stepped out of the way and motioned inside. "Watch out, the floor's kind of wet. And turn your crazy music off, Dixie! Kids these days, I swear." Archie ignored his daughter's glare and headed for the fridge. "Would you like anything to drink while we wait?"

"Angel is a Centerfold is my current favorite song." The dark man grinned, shoulders rising into a rather weak shrug. He was a little wary of leaving Mordread by himself with all their kids, but Iamel had promised to help the cat-boy take care of all the sprogglets.
"No, thank you. I was wondering though.. I mean.. The things this kid did..." Patrick hesitated, squinting up at teh ceiling slightly with a little frown. "Will he remember?"

"That's a good song," Dixie agreed. Ha! Take that Archie and his stupid attempts to be adult and parental. She smiled at Patrick and tried to look reassuring. It had never been something she had been very good at, being reassuring, and it had become more difficult with this new, older face. Her old reassuring face just looked condescending or hungry now.
"We remember," she replied, nodding toward Archie. "Some don't, it's usually because it was knocked out of them, either accidentally or on purpose. Most of them don't want us to forget." She hoped she didn't need to clarify who they were since she didn't know who they would be for this new kid. She didn't want to be misleading.
"I'm Dixie, by the way, and this is Archie."

"It IS a good song. Always funny to see an old person give you a funny look because someone they don't think would like the song is rocking out to it." He grinned, shoulders rising into a shrug once more.
Then his eyebrow arched. "We remember? You mean you? You two were both from..." He pointed upwards, ring-encrusted hand waving in teh general area, "Up there? What did you do? Did you still do it? Will this kid want to stab out my eyes or start a war on Gaia because we didn't feed him what he wanted?"
Pause, "Is he gonna be a real baby, or a baby wrapper with a murderers mind? I'm Patrick. Nice to meet you."

Dixie grinned. This guy was getting cooler by the minute. "I certainly don't do what I got sent here for anymore," she said. "It's just not the same. Archie lit fires, but I haven't seen him do that since I arrived. We have an electric stove, and a lot of the time he won't even touch that."
"I really hope your baby doesn't want to start a war," Archie added. "I think we're the good ones. I've heard some stories..."
"And I'm sure Patrick doesn't want to hear any of them," Dixie interrupted. "Everything will be fine, at least for a while. I mean, what can a baby do really?"
Outside, a little black pod was just becoming visible in the sky. It was completely silent, but Dixie and Archie had been working on that. A faint beep started to sound from a mess of computer towers and wires near the window.

"So..what? We have an arsonist and...someone who thinks babies can't do much." Patrick grinned, eyes moving to the mass of computer towards. Those dark eyes lit up, taking an unconcious step closer.
"Holy s**t that's impressive. For show or is all of that muscle? That's friggen' fantastic.. What kind of hookup do you have? memory?" He was a computer nerd. He was a mold nerd. It all worked together in the end. "What does the beeping mean - is the brat coming?"

"Is it?" Dixie asked, eyeing the computer stack. "I don't really know anything about them. Our neighbor did all this. It's supposed to alert us when a pod is coming. I've got a MySpace," she added weakly.
Archie scooted over to the window and ducked so he could see the sky. "Yup. It's here."
Well, at least Carrie was good for something. "I guess we should go outside then," Dixie said. The beeping was slowly getting louder. Did that mean it was closer? They'd have to ask Miss Nosy about it. Maybe she could rig up some sort of beeping that started when the parachute deployed? Who knows. Dixie looked up, meeting her father's eyes before he hurried to the door. My, he was certainly obnoxious today.

"You don't... Oh, dear." Patrick felt almost in pain for the poor girl - she didn't know an awesome computer when she saw one?? For shame! Everyone should know how awesome their PC really was.
With a sigh, the dark man scooted right over next to Archie, bouncing around and looking quite pleased. "There's Aliiiiens. There's aliiiiens. My high school teacher is wroooong. There's allliiiieeeeens."
With that? He flounced himself outside.
He wanted to see the alien.

Dixie couldn't help the smile that spread across her face as she followed the two outside, squinting up at the pod. It was much closer now, and eerily silent. It still unnerved her.
"Watch out," Archie said, pointing lazily in the direction of the bullseye. He stared at the sky as well, amazed at the silence. He had never thought they could be quiet.
The pod chugged along, only a couple of minutes from landing now.

"It's not going to hit us, is it?" His voice was idle, breaking the silence wee bit as those red and black eyes remained trained on the oncoming vessel. He was nervous. Bouncing a little, hand rubbing the back of his neck, oh, he was nervous. It was a BABY!

"Nope," Archie said. He shielded his eyes with a hand and looked down from the sky to Patrick, seemingly seeing the other man for the first time. "It looks a little off the path, but nothing like that one time," he said nonchalantly.
"That one time where everything went fine," Dixie added. "Everything'll be okay," she said to Patrick as the little ship's parachute opened. "See?"

"Hey, nifty! A parachute! So these other worlds don't want you guys to die? They even equip the little buggers with parachutes. Kick a**!" Patrick laughed, head shaking and running his hand over the back of his neck, moving a little closer to Archie.
"Eh, as long as the kid isn't like...a ball of fire, I don't mind 'that one time'. Mistakes happen, yea?"
