The purple dragoness lay curled up and content, sleeping through the cold of the raging storm outside, thankful that she had enough sense to build a barrier in front of the cave entrance to keep out the wind and rain. It had been like that for hours now, so they had been unable to go outside for so long that the cave... though large and open... was beginning to feel somewhat oppressive.

She opened one emerald green eye and looked at the river that divided her cave in half, noticing how the water level had risen, though it was not enough to start worrying yet. She looked at the nest between herself and the river, noticing the hatchlings curled up happily, content to snuggle with one another and keep each other warm. Both were so unlike her it was amusing, white as snow like their father, though unlike him one had the slightest blue sheen, the other the slightest green sheen. Saphire and Emerald like their parent's eyes.

She smiled to herself, even though she missed him terribly when he wasn't around, she knew her pure white mate would be back soon enough. With a slight purr she wrapped her Aqua-lined wings tighter around her scales, and closed her eye again... returning to her dream of summer days and playtime with the hatchlings.

Lightning struck, the thunder rumbling low in the distance and far out of sight, only the dimmest flashes of light passing through the cave. Even so, it was enough to stirr Rith from his sleep. Lifting his head over the edge of his nest, he gazed over at the purple form of his beloved mother as his eyes slowly focused. His awareness rousing his twin sister Arisana as it always did, she layed her head beside his and yawned as they both watched their mother.

Looking at one another without a word, they both happily climbed out of the nest and trotted across the cool stone floor of the cavern, laying down against their mother's side and cuddling together again as they were in the nest, far happier trying to keep her warm in the cold storm than sleeping alone over in the nest with eachother.

She smiled happily, feeling them snuggle close to her, and she unconsciously laid her wing down over the both of them. The small veins close to the surface were good at sucking up heat, and at times like this, at emantaing it as well. She sighed contendedly, purring deep in her chest, a soothing sound that expressed her happiness at having her children close, though deep inside she missed her Mate, Zed, and was hoping he'd get back soon. Right now she wanted nothing more than to be snuggled and surrounded them all, content in their presence and their love.

Feeling their mother's wing lay over them and the welcome vibration of her purring, the twins began purring themselves as they slowly closed their eyes together. Arisana inched closer to their mother's side, Rith doing the same soon after and laying his own wing over his sister. Slowly they drifted off into dreams of play and majik, the twins minds always seeming to interweave as they dreampt as one. Lightning struck again, this time much closer, only a mile or so away from their cave, instantly snapping Rith and Arisana awake.

The noise had startled them, but the lightning, they knew, was nothing to be afraid of so long as they were safe inside with their mother. Rith yawned widely, his sister doing the same, and they both stood, walking slowly out from under their mother's wing and curling up by her neck, their tails laid over and curled around as much of her forepaws as they could cover as they looked idly out the cavern entrance.

She opened both eyes at the thunder clap, and raised her head long enough to peer out the cave entrance, then put her head back down again. The lightning was still faint, so there was no danger, especially since they were inside. She felt the twins stir and then move up closer to her neck, and she continued purring peacefully, comforting the hatchlings as best she could.

After this last thunderclap the twins didn't go back to sleep. After a few minutes of staring out the cave entrance with no repeated lightning, they began to get a little restless and, as always, mischeivous. A quick glance at one another was all they needed, and they immediately started to play. Rith jumped up and ran to the entrance of the cave, Arisana chasing him down, and the two started trying to bat dripping rain at one another as it fell, only getting themselves wet in the proccess.

Rith found a small puddle and began splashing the water at his sister who quickly blocked it by tucking he head under her wing. Knowing he'd never be able to catch his sister off guard that easily, he ran and glomped her as she drew her head out, the two of them rolling around the floor, soaked and laughing.

She rolled her eyes at their antics, but a small smile played at the corner of her mouth in amusement. They were young and reckless, and didn't know any better, and were entitled to enjoy their youth while it lasted. Thoughts of her own childhood flittered across her mind, one that wasn't so happy and carefree, especially not on days like this. She strove to make their childhood more enjoyable then her own, and after a moment, laughed deeply at the glomping. She curled up on her own again, content to just watch closely as they played, like always.

Arisana didn't take being tackled by her brother lightly. She pinned him to the ground and leaped away, Rith rolling over quickly and chasing her as she ran back around and hid on the other side of their mother's tail. Rith lost sight of her for a moment while he shook the water off his scales and out of his mussed white mane, but that was enough. He'd lost Arisana, but he had a dew tricks up his sleeve she hated.

After a few seconds he had crept silently up to the side of his mom's tail opposite his sister, and called out to her in a way he knew she wouldn't be able to keep from giving herself away.

Arisana's eyes went wide as she heard Rith's telepathy in her mind, and she struggled not to use her own.

But it was too late. Rith had climbed over their mom's tail and yelled out in his mind as glomped his sister yet again. The two Laid on the ground tired and giggling at their own antics for a while before running around some more, this time Rith hidding behind thier mother's wing as Arisana batted at him from the other side.

As the storm grew to its peak and the lightening flashed and the rain poured down, a young demon girl could be seen. She gasped as the lightening hit the earth again and curled up into a tighter ball. She had taken refuge beneath a tree, even though it was the worst possible place to find shelter, this was all she could manage as there seemed to be nowhere else she could stay.

Looking around herself again, she blinked slowly, feeling the rain roll down her cheeks and stood up carefully. She took a couple of steps before shrinking back towards the tree, wondering how she got into this mess in the first place.

She looked up at the leaves on the tree and felt tears slide down her face, she frowned slightly and wiped the tears away, wondering why she was so afraid of storms. She looked to her left and gasped slightly, noticing something that she had not noticed before. She took a step towards what she had seen, and then a few more until she had reached the mouth of a huge cave.

She continued to purr as the children mucked about, never once taking an eye off them, she was as overprotective as a mother could possibly be. Another flash of lightnign drew her attention, and she perked an ear, waiting for the boom of thunder that followed. She calculated from both that the lighting was getting closer again, and she didn't like the sound of that, not one little bit. Unexpectedly her ear twitched, followed by a short intake of breath through her nostrils, both actions being instinctive.

She raised her head, tilting it at the doorway, and closing her eyes took a deep breath of the air from outside. Snorting it back out confusedly, she repeated the action, her sense of smell warning her that there was something unfamiliar on the wind. She unfurled her wings, letting the children know that something was amiss, and sniffed again trying to place it. The scent was too far away and too unfamiliar for her to place perfectly though, so slowly she lifted her bulk from the floor and sluggishly walked towards the cave entrance, sitting down to one side just out of the rain on her haunches, and staring out into the dark night wondering what was out there.

The two continued playing for a time, ignoring the lightning and turning away from the thunder, oblivious to anything the might be wrong untill their mother lifter her wings, both of them stopping mid roll and watching her. At the moment, Rith had his sister pinned, but was tilted to his side and fell with a short squeek, Arisana scolding him quietly and telling him to be quiet while they watched their mother move slowly towards the entrance of the cave.

Seeing her sit at the mouth of the cave was both good and bad to them, it only implying that she was uncertain herself of what lay beyond tonight, and they hurriedly climbed back into their nest, huddling together and watching from a safe distance, their heads resting over the lip of the nest of grasses.

The demon darted to the side as she saw something huge emerge from the darkness of the cave and gasped to herself just barely managing to muffle it. She stared up at the enormous creature in awe and curled her tail around herself. She had heard of dragons before but would never believe that she'd ever see one personally. She braced herself and slipped out from her hiding place and stood in front of the female dragon, just barely visible.

She tilted her head curiously, studying the darkness intently, watching the little demon child before her though not obvious about it. Slowly she turned her head to the side and made it quite clear that she saw the little one, looking her over closely with her Emerald eye, before speaking softly but noticably. "Grrrowww rawl rrrlaaar lorrrel?"

She figured that she wouldn't understand, the confusion at her draconic (which I just made up on the spot) clearly obvious. She reached out with her mind, her vocal chords unable to speak the common language of humanoids, and spoke directly to her mind through telepathy. Who are you, and why do you enter my domain?

The demon jumped slightly, hearing the voice in her mind and looked up at the dragon speaking to her and replied using her mind.I...I apologise. I am frightened of storms and I thought I could seek refuge in this cave until it passed. Though I did not know it was occupied, I guess I should find another place to stay. She turned away slowly, knowing she was probably disrupting the dragoness with her business.

Confused and fascinated by the demon girl only slightly smaller than they were, Rith and Arisana looked at eachother and back at her. They heard their mother's question clearly, saw the confusion and surprise wash over her face, and then... nothing. They heard no reply from the girl, but saw her turn away. Curious about this small girl who clearly wasn't human, they quietly walked up behind their mom, hidning behind her forelegs and staring at the young girl curiously.
