Many practices and situations are influenced by intent. As such, morality and ethics come into play at some point or another.

In the case of magic and discussing it on an open forum, the issue does arise more often because of the potential energy manipulation has.

How much responsiblity to you feel posters on forums have with discussing the morality and ethics of a matter like magic in addition to the practice itself? Should morality and ethics even be discussed if the origin of the topic does not concern itself with these aspects?

If anyone cares, this came up due to somethign occuring in the GD.

Weither or not magick can truly be explained, I think it can be discussed with out causing a major issue. People who understand the practice of a more grasp on it then people who don't. I think it is completly fine to bring up a topic about magick considering it is just the energy around us. Even if there is not a moral or ethical way to explain or discuss I personally don't think it should matter either way. The only thing I would have to say about it is not to discuss it with those who do not understand the aspect of it. This way there is now big arguement on if its real or people getting called names. My thoughts are, what works for someone may not work for another. So to a person using magick it is completly normal but yet then another person comes in and says they are crazy. I just the subject of it is best discussed with people of like mind. I would most deffenitly post something on magick in this guild because I know there are people here that will not judge. I feel that it is a universal thing and that it may not be for every creature out there, however...one should not try to understand the aspect of magick because magick is energy and that energy cannot be detected by any type of ethics because there is no limit to what the energy can do. I suppose I may not of answered your question...at this point I think that I completly lost my place lol. In my personal opinion there is no right or wrong way to discuss it. It is how you discuss it is what matters.

My post from antoehr guild, as I can't think of anything new at the moment. xp

As my feelings stand at the moment, with subjects that are posted in an open forum where anyone can view it (such as General Discussion) and have a high potential for negative reprecussion, I feel that morals and ethics should be, at the very least, mentioned. Preferably, the reasoning behind the morals and ethics should be discussed (as was mentioned) so people understand why something is wrong.

I feel this way primarily because, as practicioners, we are responsible for the information we put forth and where we put it. The law of return that comes to mind with this one is, "you reap what you sow"- if one puts out information without stating any potential negative consequences, than he/she is in part responsible for any wrongs that occur, and may have ill come back to them.

This is true in its self but negative is just like positive and is needed in life. Most of my practice consists of positive but there are instant occuring things that I have to use negative energy to get through to a person that what they are doing is wrong. I accept all charges against me. I think that it depends on the person of how the magick and punishment works. The ethics may not be the same for all people, they could be different depending on the situation. I use negative energy sometimes to point out that in a situation a person cannot morally do it that way so I send out a negative vibration of anger to that person so they feel kind of unstable and then I explain why I did it and that I meant no harm at all I just wanted to help them see what was really going on. So, in that I think that I would get something positive for helping another person see that. There is alot of twists and turns to the craft as I have been going through the years. The basic law of it is karma its self and thats really all it is. It is true such things should be mentioned when your posting it publicly but it also gives other people a chance to learn if they do it. You might disagree on part of all this but I find that a hands off method works to for learning.

I never stated, nor do I believe, that discussing morals and ethics would ward off all negativity. However, it does show responsiblity, and if an individual chooses not to take any reprecussional warnings seriously, then the original information dispenser is not at fault, and no negative effects from the improper usuage of the information would come back to him/her.

For me, I can see many forms of magic as TNT. Now, dynamite was originally designed to assist in the building of the railways by destroying large amounts of land; the creator was greatly saddened and felt guiltly when individuals began to use it to harm other people. Relating back to magic, when posting in an open forum, where anyone can see the information, I feel it is crucial to bring up something on the right and wrong way to do things to prevent any major disarray on part of the posters. And, again, preferably with why it's right or wrong included in the matter.

When dealing with energy, the major morals and ethics are fairly universal- you do not want to preform spells that jeopardize someone's free will; you do not want to force anything upon an animal or general ertheral being as they are not beneath the practicioner; you should not preform rituals that intend to harm others; etc. Naturally, there are exceptions, and as such, those exceptions can be brought up. And if there are a conflict of perceptions, it can be discussed. However, the concept of ethics and morality should not be brushed aside from the beginning.
