Well, I tried to post this in the Photoshop sticky, but it was locked or something. >w< So I hope you don't mind me posting it here.

Materials Used:
Photoshop CS2 (Could probably be adapted to most programs)
Tablet (MIGHT be able to be adapted without it, I haven't tried)

Okay... Onto the tutorial!

Well, let's start with this- my ugly, sketchy green... sketch. XD If your art is already digital inked, you can skip forward, but I'll be covering this.

Make a new layer, and go to the pen tool. My settings at the top are - Paths, Pen Tool, Auto Add/Delete, Subtract from path area (-). I honestly have no idea what any of this means, but it works for me. XD

To make a line, you click where you want to start the line, click where you want to end it, click a point somewhere in the middle, then hold down control and drag it to make a curve.

It's a little hard to explain and takes some practice. >w< If you want, here's a tutorial that has some more pictures for you.

Now that you have the hang of it, go over most all of the picture, except for a few delicate areas (the face) that I prefer to do my hand which we'll do in a sec.
To make what you have into nice looking lines, go into your brush tool. Set it to size 5 with 100% hardness, and make sure you're set to black. Go back to the pen tool, right click anywhere where there is not a line in the image, and choose 'stroke path.' Set it to 'Brush' and check the 'Simulate Pressure' box. Now, set your brush to size 3 and do the same, only without having simulate pressure checked.

You should now have lines like mine above. ^^

Now, still on the lines layer, you set your brush to size five and go over the parts you skipped. ^^ Yes, I kinda skipped this and just recolored the green lines because they were clean computer lines. But that won't work most of the time. XD''

Okay, onto the coloring~! Make a new layer under your lineart one, and start on the skin or whatever.

Using the flood fill tool, with settings set to "199 tolerance, anti-alias, contiguous and all layers" fill in your sections of the same color. You shouldn't have any problems if your lines didn't have any breaks in them. ^^ Then erase and/or fill sections with the eraser/paintbrush where you didn't, or did, want the color.

Now, choose a darker version of your base color, and get your paint brush with size around 25 (depending on what you're doing) and hardness at 0%.
Lock your layer's transparency, and start shading. XD Sadly, I'm not going to cover where to put the shadows, you'll have to learn that yourself. Just don't be sparse!

Now, get an even darker shade, and set your paint brush's hardness back up to 100%. Shade like last time, only more sparingly.

Now, I generally color everything else like that BUT the hair and eyes, which I do last.

Fill the hair... (Yes, there is a mysterious green bit on mine XD'')

Soft brush, like the skin...

Darker color... try to make some strands.

Now, do a darker shade yet, to add more depth.
Then add lighter colors the same way, with a small, hard brush. n_n

Lastly, I do the eyes. Use the paint brush to fill in the color, lock transparency, add a darker shade on the edge of where the big white shine is, and an almost-white shine on the bottom.

Aaaand taadaa! XD Yeah, I'm not very good at explaining things, sorry. But I hope I helped you somewhat.

This isn't any character in particular, just a quick job done for this tutorial. XD
