Strike was a child who liked to help anyone he could whenever and wherever he could however he could. He had been raised to believe his worth was equivalent to how useful he made himself to others, so he spent the majority of his time doing just that in whatever way he could manage. If someone needed to reach something high, he may not have been very tall, but he would be the one to bring over a chair and risk standing on it to get the something down. If a peer needed to borrow a book for class, Strike would share his or even outright go without his to allow someone else to use it for the period. He was more than happy to assist others even at a detriment to himself, so when he noticed a limping cat wander behind the school at lunch time, he followed it in the hopes of seeing what he could do to help it.

He figured if the cat could get away from him easily, then it would be fine enough to take care of itself and heal on its own. However, this cat was odd in a few different ways. The first was that it seemed to limp away from him only fast enough for him to be able to catch up to it each time. The second strange thing was that once Strike got close enough, he was able to notice a bright, arctic blue star on its forehead and wondered how it had gotten such a star. Maybe it was one of those 3-D stickers some kid had stuck on its face. He could try to take it off once he manage to get close enough to touch it. If he did, of course.

It wasn't until he managed to corner the cat in a very secluded area at the back of the school where there were air conditioning units and only maintenance workers and janitors probably went that the cat finally stopped. It turned around and sat on its hindquarters, staring directly into Strike's eyes.

"It's okay," Strike tried to tell it gently, crouching low and moving more slowly as he closed the distance between himself and the feline. "I won't hurt you. I'm here to help! Well...if you'll let me."
