Charlotte's hooves plodded quickly over the quickly chilling ground. The days had just barely started to become cooler, but the nights had been crisp for a few weeks now. She was certainly thankful from the reprive of the heat, though she had been through much worse in her time living in the desert. Since leaving there many moons ago, she had started to aclimate to the cooler temperatures. Cooler still with the chance of rain that had been foretold. Unlucky for Charlotte since tonight was supposed to be one of the best meteor showers in their lifetime. And Charlotte had told herself she would see it, or die trying.

That's why, when Charlotte turned around to view the direction she had been leaving, her ears fell almost as far as her frown. She must have been so distracted by her anticipation of the coming meteor shower she had blocked out everything around her and the clouds had followed. Silently rolling chaos behind her, a quick flash of lightning off in the distance, as if the clouds cheered in jubilation at her finally noticing them. Charlotte glared at the clouds, but only for a second. She wasn't going to let them ruin her night. She was however going to try and find some shelter before the rain hit. She was only about a 15 to 30 minute walk from her optimal viewing cliff. Rather to duck in some place and miss the first of the meteor shower and enjoy the rest dry than to stand there dripping all night. Her pride would never allow that.

Lightning danced across the sky again when she noticed a soft glow that did not retreat with the rest of the light. A crevice could be seen in what Charlotte had thought solid ground. Slowly she walked to the opening of the cave and entered. She would soon be thankful for any extra warmth once the rain started.

Saito looks out from the cave towards the fastly approaching storm clouds with a rather irritated expression. It's not that he has a great dislike of storms.. He just doesn't like being in the rain of them. With the hiss as the raindrops hit his flames being a constant when in such storms. He has grown accustomed to seeking shelter early to escape from what others would deem as a minor inconvenience. Yet others wouldn't understand how annoying hearing that sound over and over could be. Alas there are always pros and cons to having flames that are literally a part of you. When he was young he felt a little like the odd one out. The others were hesitant about his flames and he couldn't really blame them. He had to learn how to control the flames and that took some time. Yet the day he came across Rix was the day that made him feel less.. Alone. Satisfied to have a friend at least to face whatever came their way. It is with that thought that he decides he should check in on how Rix is settling in.

Turning around he moves deeper into the cave where he has already set up a spot with a sheepskin for Rix to lay on along with his favorite toy which is just a ball of twine. It is nice that Rix is fond of simple toys to play with. Saito wouldn't know what to do if he had to take care of a cat friend that was one of those that get fussed over and shown off. A gentle smile graces his features as he moves to lay down. It doesn't take long for Rix to come bounding over with the enthusiasm of a young foal with the case of the zoomies.

A deep pleasant chuckle escapes him as he smirks."Seems like we might be in here awhile Rix.. How about we put that energy into some play?" He uses a paw to push the ball of twine back and forth waiting for Rix's eyes to catch onto the ball. When the cat is fully engrossed and ready to pounce with a flick of his paw he sends the twine rolling away. Rix chasing after it gleefully. With both of them in the cave the glow of their fires cast quite a nice ambiance.

Charlotte's head leaned forward, her ears almost against her head as she slowly crept deeper into the cave. The cave mouth had been inviting enough, and suddenly a cold chill creeping down her back made her inching increase. Confusingly, a soft scritching could be heard, with a soft resonating voice that she more felt in her chest than heard with her ears. The scritching Charlotte could only guess was some type of small critter. No telling what may be attached to the voice that echoed in her chest.

Charlotte poked her head over a rock that had been blocking her view and stopped dead in her tracks. Blinking even more confusedly than when she couldn't place the mystery voice tickling the inside of her ribcage. Where she had expected to see a fire pit, maybe a few roasted apples, but instead she was graced with the view of a cat on fire. As well as whomever the voice belonged to. Unfortunately all she could see of what she assumed to be a stallion was a head with the fluffiest ears she'd ever seen and more of the flickering from the mouth of the cave.

The shiver from before returned to send quivers of lightning through her nerves. The feline she could handle if things got dicey. The stallion on the other hand..... her days of living under the sultans hoof had been many moons passed, but the images of his evil eyes remained vivid in her mind and all but the tiniest of stallions seemed to trigger the dread she would meet someone to rival her passed oppressors deads. She swallowed the lump of fear that had gathered and clogged her voice, still a shred of hope this stallions stature would not measure up to his voice.

Her small voice echoed in his cave as she cleared her throat. "I apologize for the intrusion, kind sir" she nodded to the flickering stallion then looked to the cat who had stopped to lift his head to look at her, ball of twine gripped in his mouth "and....sir?" She could only hope she caused no offense to offering up a gender she was not positive of.

Charlotte glanced back to the way she had entered from and noticed the rain had started to haze over the mouth of the cave. She turned back to the two sets of eyes now fully at attention on her. "I... I don't plan to stay passed the rain as I was on my way to my meteor shower viewpoint but as someone who has lived in the desert all her life, I'm not fond of the stuff...." Charlotte then caught herself rambling and shut her mouth. Had her training in manners really left her so easily? Maybe he hadn't noticed....

Watching Rix's pure joy at playing brings a warm sense of contentment to him. Oftentimes even when he is feeling a little down. Rix and his joyful, playful personality never fails to brighten his days. To help him see the little things that he should always be grateful for. He could never express just how much his dear cat friend means to him. Nor can he ever not encourage anyone to find a critter friend to help improve their lives.

It is while he is musing over this when the sounds of approaching steps filters to his ears. Twisting and flicking as he lifts his gaze in the direction of the sound he tilts his head slightly. Almost feline like in a way as he takes in the appearance of the mare that is at the mouth of the cave entrance. He is about to place a paw in front of him to stand when something.. like a small voice tells him to stop. He resettles with his legs under him and gives a lazy small smile.

It is looking at the mare closer and paying attention to the body language that he starts to understand what even his subconcious was telling him.. Her language seems one of someone that is uncomfortable or spookish. Better to stay down and pretend to be lazy so not to frighten the polite mare.

"It's alright. Rix and I are also hiding from the rain ourselves. It seems we share a similar dislike for rain.. Though for very different reasons I would imagine." A soft chuckle escapes him and his eyes are alight with amusement. His gaze watching how Rix is reacting. Though it doesn't seem like Rix is at all bothered by the newcomer to the cave. Just moreso curious with the ball of twine in his mouth.

"Rix is indeed a boy.. though..." He tilts his head as confusion is evident on his features.."What is a meteor shower?" He isn't too sure that he ever heard of those.. Is it like the rain outside? Maybe a different form of it? Deserts he is aware of as he has wandered through before in their travels. Eyes flicker to the mouth of the cave and he listens to the patter of the rain falling on the ground. Seems it isn't letting up yet. "Feel free to settle down. Though I will warn you. Rix is rather playful and might try to get you to join in some play." He tries to get Rix to bring the ball of twine over to him. Alas, Rix is just proving him right when he brazingly trots over to the mare and drops the ball of twine at her hooves. Tail waving lazily as the cats flames flicker invitingly.

Charlotte tried to force herself to take a deep breath and slow the jitters in her veins. Luckily, the tenor of the stallion a little ways in front of her was doing much in the way of soothing her. Her face crumbling into a warm smile as the small cat plopped his way over with the ball of twine in his mouth. It did wonders on helping her forget she was in an enclosed space with an unknown male. But his little cat friend did look hale and hearty, so there was a good chance the stallion behind the rock cropping was nice to others.

As he started talking about the rain her legs dropped her gently yo the floor so she could be face to face with the little critter. "Rix? That is a handsome name for a handsome cat. Even without knowing the meaning I can see it suits you well" she was about to ask it's meaning when Saito dropped a bomb into her brain. She couldn't help but splutter at first before remembering everyone had their own experience on this rock. "Yo-you don't know what a meteor shower is?" Staring at him in shock a few seconds before coughing in embarrassment "Sorry, that was rude of me... I must be more put off by the surprise rain than I thought...." Which of course was no excuse. Her eyes drooped to avoid meeting his, but the quick thoughts moving through her head convinced her avoiding his eyes was a level of disrespect she didn't want to layer on. "Well, when things from outer space come close enough to Earth they catch on fire and you can see them from the ground. They are called Meteor's." She paused for a moment to search for any more helpful information in her brain before switching to anecdotes. "Ah! I've also heard people call them Wishing Stars?" A little chuckle escaping her throat "Though, I don't know how successful the 'Wishing' aspect, but they certainly aren't stars."

She shook her head at his question "There are, I suppose luckily, less meteors in the sky when you do see them. And fewer of them that make it to the Earth. Usually they miss Earth and continue their fiery journey among the stars. I have not found any myself. Enjoyment of seeing a streak of light shoot across the sky has often put a spark in my night" her face becoming a little somber with her last words. Memories of a past watching shooting stars with someone no longer around making her eyes mist over before she turned her head to the mouth of the cave. She gave a small cough but when she turned her head back to face Saito, her eyes were clear.

"Since they are so far away the clouds will keep me from being able to see any" A small sigh escaping her this time. "Even without the rain unless the clouds keep traveling. It doesn't sound like it has let up when I just checked...."

She let her voice trail off, unsure if he had noticed her change in moods. But the past could never again join her in her present or future. It was time to switch gears.

Her eyebrows raised as she contemplated his aversion to rain. "I take it being in a state of on fire is something you are used to? I must admit when I saw the flickering from outside I would have never guessed the fire was attached to anyone." A warm smile blooming on her muzzle before she shook her head, remembering he had mentioned something else as well. "Yes, of course" a laugh replaced the shake of her head "I deeply apologize, I have no idea where my mind is tonight. But I would be happy to stave off the chill of the rain by playing with you and your friend."
