Summers on Earth could get terribly, uncomfortably hot, Madriu was finding. He'd suffered others, of course, and he'd lived on his own world while drought scorched it, but that didn't mean he was any more pleased by encountering it again. Even into the evening, the heat stayed, and he felt miserable and sticky wandering the city.

Honestly, he longed to just go back to the little home he shared with Arcalis and relax where it was cooler, but unfortunately, duty compelled him to patrol for at least an hour or two. He'd ditched his jacket long ago, abandoned on a park bench because it would reappear the next time he powered up anyway, and he was seriously considering pausing to rip his tights to get a little more airflow.

The problem with that was, he could feel a twinge of Chaos, and it was perhaps closer than he liked. His ears pinned back unhappily, and he let out a little unhappy growl.

It wasn't Bel, or her Dark Mirror. It was the other group--the Negaverse, the ones who had shot a massive Chaos cannon into the sky when fighting the Calamitous Hollow. A cannon that had made Madriu feel worse than the monster they had been fighting. These were the ones who stole souls--and Madriu was not going to allow something like that.

He prowled forward, trying to move as quietly and cautiously as possible--best to try and get a jump on whoever this was, if they were causing problems.

Vesuvianite, truthfully, was finding themself more and more dissatisfied with the way they lived their life. Progress in the Negaverse had stalled for them, and that was likely a result of them getting their a** kicked so goddamn often. Given that the Negaverse had yet to beat these guys, and new ones of them cropped up all the time...

Perhaps their strength was simply better.

Suvi preferred not to think that way, if they could. But the situation was so... precarious. Especially with genuine aliens bearing down. Now, they understood people didn't choose their past lives, but this whole aliens thing, actual aliens, showing up with their deader-than-dead planets, fighting to destroy Chaos... Something felt... They didn't know. There were too many thoughts swirling around their head about the situation. Earth didn't seem on the verge of being taken over, after all. But how much could actual aliens be trusted?

Their mind was heavily occupied as they wandered the city, seeking folks to drain but really only barely paying any attention. Their tornadoed thoughts took precedence above all else tonight.

Even the slight tickling at the back of their mind that insisted a White Moon senshi was nearby didn't quite bring Vesuvianite back into the present.

Madriu was pretty sure he could identify a member of the Negaverse by sight. Dark colors, shiny looking dangerous weapon, brooding and miserable attitude. Seemed about right for someone serving a parasite that wanted to destroy worlds, and there was no external threat to make Madriu thankful for a Chaos presence tonight.

No, there was only someone who was most likely here to cause problems, and Madriu wasn't having it.

"Drained anyone tonight? Or do you just like to brood while magical? Seems like a risky choice, just based on what I know about your world."

Vesuvianite stopped in their tracks, swinging their sickle up and aiming it at the alien senshi before them.

"Not that you have any reason to believe me," they said, "But no, I've not drained anyone tonight. Too many thoughts. Whether safe or not, I'm a much better thinker as this version of myself than the version of myself that takes classes."

They adjusted slightly to have a more defensive stance. Well. There was an alien before them...

"Why exactly did you come to Earth?" they asked, skeptical but seeking information in their own way, instead of simply trusting the things they had been told by powerful people to induct them to "the right side".

All things considered, and with no drained bodies around, Madriu supposed that perhaps his initial assumption that this particular Negaverse minion was up to no good might have been a little hasty. He stood by the idea that generally they probably were, but that was a different matter from the specific instance before him, really.

"I suppose I have no reason to disbelieve you wither," he said, and he spread his hands in a sort of gesture of peace. No weapons, not that it mattered since he could call his magic in an instant.

If it worked and didn't backfire on him. Ugh.

"So I'll accept your premise that you're just pondering. And given that, I'll answer your question. It's because my world is dying." Simple and true. "Chaos was unleashed on it and it consumed everything it could, so now I have a blasted hellscape with deadly magnetic storms for a home. You can imagine why I prefer this world."

"Deadly magnetic storms?" Vesuvianite repeated, surprised. Part of them had always had a vague interest in meteorology, and that sounded very interesting. Not, like, great, obviously, but they were morbidly curious.

"You say that Chaos did this. Do you have any proof?" They gestured to themself. "In my experience, it empowers."

"Among other ********, yes," Madriu said, ears dropping unhappily. He hated thinking about what Eithian had done to his world--how that piece of s**t had punished him for having the audacity to want to leave him by killing an entire ******** planet with his stupid carelessness.

"I was there when it was unleashed. and if you're willing to take my word for it, I'll say simply: in the same way our auras feel different here on Earth, you can feel the Chaos on my world. It's everywhere. Coming here was actually a relief, where it's just little blips and people instead of this all-encompassing, oppressive force."

Vesuvianite fully dropped their sickle, then, brow furrowed in concentration as they observed the senshi before them. Nothing seemed to indicate lying. Just... distress. As they supposed anyone would be, coming from a planet that was entirely dead.

"Truly, I can't imagine how that feels," they said. "I don't know how to explain it here. It feels... warm. Welcoming, even. Like..."

Humming slightly, they patted their chest, where their blackened starseed rested.

"For me... This blackness within feels like I'm nestled within a soft blanket that will protect me. Keep me safe. The idea of it being destructive..."

It just didn't make sense. But they believed that the senshi was telling the truth; or at least, what they were convinced was the truth.

Madriu relaxed, a little. It seemed like this wasn't actually going to end in a fight, which on the one hand was sort of unfortunate but on the other, it was miserably hot and a fight would just work up more of a sweat, and he could feel good going home after having given a Negaverse minion a lesson on harsh realities.

"Yeah, I imagine it feels nicer if you welcome it into your heart," Madriu said. "To me, it...it's like ashes and rot, a poison that has infected the land." His ears flicked, briefly, uncomfortably.

"The idea of it being safe is completely alien to me." But maybe that was what Eithian had felt. Safety. Or power, power seemed more likely. either way, though, it was promises Chaos couldn't keep. Or hadn't cared to, since Madriu had overpowered him and killed him.

"As alien as our entire planet, I'd imagine," Vesuvianite quipped before they could stop themself.

Ashes and rot. And if every other alien senshi expressed similar feelings, then...

What if everything that Suvi knew was wrong?

"Thanks, for uh, the chat. I'm sorry about your home. I hope you've found something good for yourself here," they said, somewhat awkwardly, but meaning it.

They weren't supposed to mean it. But something about this felt more right than what they'd been told to believe.
