The Reservoir - Here he had heard that there was a creature, not chaos, not order. It had brought him out to see if he could find some trace of it himself, curious, if concerned that it would be something that would ultimately need to be dealt with.
'Dealt with', like some minor inconvenience when once he might have considered it a marvel of the known world. How many strange things had he seen that could now be dismissed as inconvenient to the cause at large?

He shook his head, dismissing the thought; after all, far stranger things had surely happened. He stepped closer to the edge of the water, letting it lap at the toes of his boots and frowning as he sensed... a General.

He couldn't see them anywhere, however; in fact, as he moved to try and triangulate the location, it seemed to be in the water itself.

His breath caught in his throat as the situation played out in his mind; something in the water had, it seemed, snatched an officer. An officer currently underwater and not surfacing for air. Perhaps too panicked to teleport to safety.

He reached for them and summoned, calling them forth to the beach beside him, and hoped that whatever force seemed to have them in its grip underwater, that he wasn't too late, and that it wasn't somehow stronger than his command.

Having spent more than an hour in a sensory-deprived state where the water was neither warm nor cold, and every sound was reduced to a distant, muffled echo, Lavendulan had long since grown accustomed to the reservoir’s stillness.

One moment, she had been suspended in that familiar weightlessness; in the next she felt like she had been swept over the edge of an underwater drop-off.

Water rushed past in a sudden torrent, tugging at her hair and clothes with enough force to convince her that she had finally found what she’d been searching for.

Then it stopped.

In the space that existed between heartbeats. The rapidly increasing pressure from being pulled to depths at an alarming rate was replaced by the crushing weight of her own body as she landed upon solid ground. Sand gave beneath her with a wheezing squeak.

For a long moment, she remained where she’d lay, her limbs feeling unbearably heavy after spending so long suspended beneath the water’s surface. The sudden shift in pressure sent a sharp pain through her ears, leaving her momentarily disoriented. Even the simple act of raising her head felt far more difficult than it should.

Her irritation arrived before her bearings did.

Pushing herself onto one elbow, her eyes landed not on a face, but on a pair of boots planted in the sand behind her.

“... Seriously?” She snarled, pupils pulling into thin slits as she shrugged the mesh bag from her shoulder and tossed it at the General’s feet. “I was so close to finally having answers and you let it get away.” Lavens voice dipped into a growl as her claws dug deep into the sand while glaring daggers at the collection of trinkets strewn about the space between them as if they had offended her as much as the officer had.

The sight of the half-youma was not what he expected; he really felt there should be some... difference, somehow, in how a half-youma felt compared to a...

Well, a normal, general, cruel thought though it was. He was more than a little taken aback, and even found himself shifting slightly back on his feet in a ready-to-fight stance at her fury at being summoned.

"My 'sincere' apologies for not realizing you weren't being drowned by the purported creature. Next time I feel someone submerged in deep water for a prolonged period of time that defies average lung capacity, I'll be absolutely sure to leave them to their fate."

The sarcasm dripped nearly as much as she did as he took her in, pale blue hair, scales, clawed fingers.

Once upon a time she would have been an outrageous rarity; now her, wolframite, lord knew how many other officers were no longer fully human. He thought the monster in the reservoir had been a strange idea; this was stranger still.

“That’s not what I meant, and you know it,” Lavendulan snapped back.

Sand clung to her in the most inconvenient of places; her arms and face, gods it was all over her hair as well as under a few scales. It would be a fruitless endeavor to try to brush it all off, but he’d think her half mad if not insane if she walked back in the water so readily.

“Of course you try to save them,” Her expression twisted with disgust as she turned her head and spat a few grains of coarse sand on the ground that had found their way into her mouth from when she’d thrown her bag in frustration; that discomfort was unfortunately her own fault. “You’d have no right to call yourself a General if you didn’t.”

Her tone was still sharp, but the immediate anger seemed oddly tempered if only slightly.

Eventually Lavendulan did glance upwards; sillouted by the street lamps behind him, the General stood a couple of paces away, looking as if flight had never been an option, and he was ready for the next thing she’d swing his way. Although his face was cast in dark shadow, his expression was unmistakable.

He, like many others before him, looked down at her as if she were the one causing all the problems.

A humorless chuckle escaped her. “Whatever,” she muttered to herself.

Lavendulan rose to her feet and offered a suspiciously insincere curtsey-like bow that caused her to wince from the dull ache in her ribs. “Although I was in no danger of drowning, your concern for my safety did not warrant my ire. For that, I apologize.”

“Although very few were aware of my intent, there is no reason you could have known my purpose for being here perhaps mirrors your own.” She glanced down once more at his boots that had only barely touched water. “I’m just perhaps more than willing to get my feet wet in search of answers or actually fighting what grabbed me.”

"Really... is that what you think of me?" He arched an eyebrow and took a step closer to her. "That I am unwilling to 'get my feet wet '?"

His tone was dry, perhaps ironically given the accusation.

There was no special reason for him to take umbrage at the accusation, no particular reason he'd feel it applied to anything more than the mysterious beast that purportedly lurked beneath the waves. But in that moment it did.

He knew, ultimately, that he should check himself, and did make a measure to.

"I had no way of knowing either, the unique skills one might now guess you possess. Perhaps I am meant to apologize further for thinking you might be in distress because I used the most rapid means at my disposal rather than wading in, apparently afraid to saturate my boots."

Lavendulan’s youma instincts stirred beneath her skin.

His approach. His looming presence. The careless placement of his boot atop the treasures that had fallen free of her mesh bag. To anyone else, it might have seemed inconsequential.

To her, it was a challenge.

“I suggest you take a step back.”

A low growl vibrated in the back of her throat before she could suppress it. Every instinct urged her to bare her teeth and drive the general back and reclaim the space he’d unknowingly invaded.

“I may be a half-youma, but I will not be cowed by someone who shares the same rank as me.” They both answered to the same Queen. “If you wish to intimidate someone, I suggest you find yourself a lieutenant.”

The hand at her side flexed.

“Although unintentional, you've interrupted my hunt. So, unless you intend to satiate my desire to fight something, I politely request you get off my things.”

The same rank?
He arched an eyebrow with amusement and remembered the pendant that Meridiana had given him, there on a chain around his neck, that helped suppress his energy signal even when he wasn't powered down to General.

He started to correct her, then, as she postured, thought better of it.

"I suggest several things, but caution would be the core of it. If you want to fight, I won't turn you down. You're being brash, and while I understand your frustration better, the act was still done as a kindness and should be respected as such."

He slid one foot backwards, widening his stance, and lifted his metal hand, beckoning her forward if she dared.

"I promise I won't see you punished for this."

It was calculated to goad, as well as to assure when she finally realized.

Won't see me punished…?

Lavendulan’s eyes narrowed skeptically.

That sounded less like a warning and more of a threat

It made her wonder whether his confidence stemmed from the backing of one of the Sovereigns. Jet, perhaps… or Lepidolite. She knew little of either beyond their names and had only seen them on the battlefield twice in the last four years.

Her gaze settled on the hand beckoning her forward.

“I’m not entirely sure how I’m supposed to respond to that.” A beat passed before adding, almost as an afterthought, “I suppose I won’t tell Wolframite if you somehow manage to hurt me.”

Even to her own ears, it felt like an odd thing to say.

Nonetheless, she wasn’t about to decline the opportunity to spar with someone new.

The temperature around Lavendulan cooled considerably as frost crept outward in thin veins across the sand, spreading from beneath her boots in a widening ring. She slowly curled her hand into a fist, and as her fingers closed, sharpened throwing stars of ice crystallized between them, their edges glinting in the dim light behind him.

“Remember,” she said evenly, shifting her feet so her stance mirrored his own, “you agreed to this." It was the only warning she gave before swinging her arm and releasing all three magical weapons in his direction with a percise flick of her wrist.

Passive Powered Enhancement: Path of Frost
The air around Lavendulan cools and as she moves a path of frost follows behind her. It lasts for about 10 minutes in cold weather, while in the summer it might linger for about 2 minutes before melting.

[Forgotten Spell Enhancement-Frozen Star
While the actions happen quickly, the air around Lavendulan's hand becomes incredibly cold and when she closes it into a tight fist, the moisture in the air crystallizes into three snowflake-shaped throwing stars, one held between each finger.

All three must be thrown simultaneously; however, their path of travel may vary between as close to a straight line as possible at a single or stationary target or spread to possible hit multiple targets or hinder an escape. These throwing stars are brittle and meant to shatter upon impact, however, it is up to player discretion if they want to take moderate piercing damage instead of (or in addition to) the shatter effect if hit. If a star shatters against an inanimate object or the ground it coats the area in a 1.5' radius of rime. If it hits a player the ice shards coat the clothing and skin in the general area in rime making it difficult to move while joints begin to ache as if frostbite was crawling through their veins where they were hit.

The attack is dodgeable, especially at further distances, as it relies on both accuracy and luck to hit a moving target.

Range: 20'

"I assure you I'm quaking in my boots." He countered, rather wondering what Wolframite would say if he knew any of this was going on. If he'd berate her or be proud of her for being so feisty with someone she perceived as a fellow general despite the rather ornate nature of his clothing.

To his discredit, he told himself. He was not expecting magic, not like what she produced. He threw his arm up instinctively to block the weapons as she flung them at him, the temperature dropping around her to a chill that would have, under normal circumstances, been a relief from the heat of a day. Instead it came with throwing stars that shattered against the sleeve of his coat where it concealed his metal arm. The rime of frost that crept out from it chilled him to the bone, because while the arm was artificial, mauvian technology had ensured that he could feel as though he had never lost the limb.

Fingers stiffening, wrist aching, he cursed at the bitter bite of winter and then grinned behind his mask; it had been some time since he'd properly sparred, and even with a General this would be an interesting fight indeed.

He flicked shards of shattered star back in her direction and quipped.

"Is that the best you have?"

“My best is saved only for those worthy of my effort”

Like a feline ready to pounce upon its prey, Lavendulan's pupils became wide with the thrill of the moment before contracting in an almost feral focus.

The sand beneath her feet protested loudly as she dashed toward the General, frost trailing behind her. Ducking low, she pivoted at the last moment and danced around his side, where she took a swipe with her claws.

He moved as she did, faster perhaps, though that may have been the adrenaline she was feeling. Her claws skimmed along the chest of his coat and tore into the thick layers of fabric, leaving a fine line of red, appropriately catlike, on the skin beneath. Irritated and just thinking of bleeding.

He gave a short laugh despite the startling sting of it, and swung casually towards her. Striking at her midsection to drive her back, almost lackadaisical in its manner.

“Then I suggest you find your best if you want to come close to beating me. I will not be the target you think I am.”

Air rushed out of her lungs from the force of his attack.

If not for the fact that she was raised around water and had spent most of her life running along the sandy beaches, Lavendulan would have surely lost her footing and stumbled backwards, or even fallen on her backside. As it was, she maintained a sure footing but did step back several paces.

If she was surprised by his strength, Laven didn't show it. If anything, her expression looked amused.

“Huh,” a quiet chuckle escaped her as she ran her tongue over sharp teeth. “You're awfully confident of your capabilities. It makes me wonder how you'd fare against someone from the old guard.” Wolframite had sparred with her on numerous occasions and taught her what it was like to fight against someone who had served the Negaverse for over a decade.

The brutality of it was something that stuck with her.

Again, Lavendulan rushed toward him, claws ready to strike, but when mere inches from his person, she teleported behind him, then lowered herself just enough to aim a kick at the back of his knees.

Nearly three-quarters of the area around him had been affected by her path of frost. Now, even she needed to be careful where she placed her feet.

His good knee, thank heavens, had she knocked his other leg, he’d have been limping for hours after. Still, he had to admire the force of her blow.

“You’ve absolutely trained with wolframite, I see.” He said, amused, not yet ready to break out his weapon, but admiring her tenacity all the same.

He let the kick drop him to one knee and pivoted using the frost to swing about and grasp for her tail. If fantasy novels were anything to be believed, or cats, it was a sensitive area and a fantastic source of leverage. He gave it a moderate jerk to see where it would take things.

“He didn’t always have one of these; I suspect the same is true of you as well.”

It took a moment for her to register what he was referring to. But that delay was all he needed to elicit a startled yelp from her.

“Son of a….” She hissed through clenched teeth as sharp pain shot up her lower back.

Rather than back down or move away from him, Lavendulan moved instinctively to the hand that had grasped her tail in such an unkind way. Fingers curled so that sharp claws pushed through thick fabric and into what lay beneath it.

“You'd be wise not to try that again.” Cheap shots like that would earn the General no favors.

“Mind your extremities; a true enemy will not do you a kindness of a simple tug. If I were to have been more serious…”

He twisted his arm in hers, feeling nails rake his skin and clenching his teeth against it, before swinging to strike the joint of her shoulder.

“Then you’d truly know what a liability it is not to be more careful. All of you is a weapon; use it accordingly or don’t start fights with strangers in the dark.”
