Has anyone ever listened to a song and thought "this band is definitely christian" or "this song is definitely invoking Christ", only to find out that its not? >3>;; its kind of awkward, but still very endearing. I cant be the only one to have this happe. ;d
If yall have any examples, I'd love to hear them! Commence the music thread in his name! If you want to post christian music you love as well, go right ahead. 3nodding
(Also if you're embedding youtube videos, try to put them in spoiler tags, just to make the page easier to load. Thank you in advance <3 )
Caligulas Horse - Songs For No One:
Especially with the chorus, I freaking love the lyrics in this song so much!
Dream Theater - Wither
Its weird, because Dream Theater doesnt call themselves a christian band, but they have soooo many songs with Christian themes. Id say theyre pretty Christian honestly, they were one of the bands that got me through a lot of hard tomes and kept faith in the lord for me c;
(Ill add more later >3>;; )

Dream Theater! heart
It's not a Christian song but Dream Theater's "Pull Me Under" is definitely about Hamlet.
Also, if you're unfamiliar, there's a Christian drummer named Seth. He has a Youtube channel called SethDrums. He uses A.I. to generate genre-changed covers to songs that he then drums to. He turned Waymaker, for example, into Epic Battle Music:
And turned the Veggietales Cheeseburger song into an Arena Rock song:

Also thats badass, and also hilarious that he covered a veggie tales song ;v I was in the generation to grow up with the OG veggie tales, my Lutheran church i grew up in would even play it in Sunday school. Even back then I was prejudice towards 3D animation, though I can see how people loved it and had nostalgia for it.
Okay so... this is definitely NOT a Christian song, by a band that is very expresively anti-Christian/nihilistic, but I always attributed this song to Jesus's message in a very vague way. I can listen to anti-theistic black/death metal and not have it influence me or tarnish my love for Christ, but its even more lulzy when I can insert Jesus into their lyrics ;v
Naglfar - Breathe Through Me
Lyrics 𝄞: I worsip thee, I want to feel your power flow through me hear my plead, come and rescue me set my spirit free, allow me to see grant me the key to eternity
Do I matter? I ask myself how come no one remembers my name? I who serves the light who fell in love with the night
Free mefrom my shackles pierce trough my soul's disguise grace me with the knowledge to see through the lies make me one with you now and eternally breathe through me, for the world to see
Like sunshine after rain lift me up, exalt me, release me from pain remove damnation's stain that torments me and marks me as cain
Free me from my shackles pierce through my soul's disguise grace me with the knowledge to see through the lies make me one with you now and eternally breathe through me for the world to see
You can infer that theyre not talking about Jesus, but it can be easily be interpreted that way, and expresses going through very human trials.
Also, I have kins of the opposite thing too, i have metal songs that sound very dark but are by Christian death/black metal bands that are actually very awesome. Metalheads think Christian metal is dumb, but they haven't really explored all the bands. I dont know if I should make a whole new thread entirely for that, and I dont want to spam similar topics >3>;;
(Will show in next post, I have several examples!)

Awww, man, wouldn't it be epic if they were a Christian band? Those lyrics would be so perfect, lol.
Not a huge fan of Naglfar based on that song, but one song from the catalog isn't really enough to make a judgment.
And yes, I love Dream Theater. I have a very eclectic taste in music and it ranges all over the place, lol. Do not be deceived by the Mabisyo song on my profile! That is not the only type of music I listen to! If you're curious, I could give you a long list of artists I like.
I remember that while Lifehouse was not explicitly a Christian band, many of their songs were pretty Christian/spiritually coded.
Creed was the same way. They weren't a Christian band, though the frontman was raised Christian, I believe. They have a song, My Own Prison, which was pretty explicit (like...seriously).

Miseration - The Mirroring Shadow
Lyrics:
Like a blind man being left behind Hitting every corner to make hurt Left with a knowing of being not all right And books and instruments to make that go away In darkness - no reading can be done In darkness - the scalpel cuts all wrong
[Chorus] I have been waiting for so long Thorugh a mirroring shadow
Never surrender, so they say But if every try makes the next one even faultier Should there not be a point of saying ney Puzzling with my brain Needles and alcohol to drain Zip-sap-sow - there tomorrows go
[repeat chorus)]
In that cube of black where i was trapped White would circularly saw and make me free When death came to close, there you were Splendour of shine and grace Transcending one of many a deaths I was becoming all that i wanted
But lights still remains a constand in mind Though eyes cannot receive any glow I keep it to myself as an arousal fantasy And bit by bit I start to to make myself a believer
This is a song about the struggle of a Christian's trial through the sins of mortal life and how its so easy to succumb to it. I think the mirroring shadow is depicting how the lord suffers through all your struggles with you. The mirror is his word and soul, and the shadow is how he's not apart of the material world but is still there, seeing you betray him and suffering alongside you. Such an underrated song!
Miseration - Thrones
Lyrics: In a land of darkness In the dark of the night Only death in their souls No escape, you will die Death warriors spreading fear Ready to abolish mankind They are back, back to kill They are the legions Legions of the dead Slaves of death, manifests in the night Human extinction is at hand Ripping our flesh, tormenting our souls A horde from above Riding cahriots on fire Sealed with shining armours Illuminating darkness Chosen light to be their guide In the dark of the night They are back, back to fight They are the legions, legions of light Holy servants, avengers of justice Demon extinction is at hand Ripping their flesh, tormenting their souls They are the legions, legions of light I am the one that protects your innocence I am the one who condemns the lies I am the one that gives you shelter through the pain I am the one that gives you life I am the one that devours your innocence I am the one tormenting your flesh I am the one feeding you guilt I am the one demolishing your existence They are nemesis, this is the final battle The end has come with violence and bloodshed This last confrontation, a life ending struggle Judgement day has come, prepare for the doom
This is just a song describing the final events in the book of Revelations. Perfect for a metal song imo! Atheists will think that the Bible is boring and have many moral contradictions they'll love to criticize God over. I like how this song portrays God and his army as a truly horrifying force righteous but ruthless in his fury. He kinda has to be considering - ya know - what hes up against.
I find it funny how Atheists will be contrarian about God's morality and wonder why God sends souls that stray away from him to damnation. Theyre king of ignoring the fact that those souls chose to be that way through their own free will, and if you argue that giving humans free will is flawed because God will condemn souls to suffer while claiming omnibenevolence, youre blatantly disregarding those souls actively chosing to reject God's love. Maybe it would be better to them if we didnt have free will and they could have no semblance of being able to rebel against/criticize God, I dunno... Wow, sorry for the rambling >3>;;

Lol, definitely liked "Thrones". Wow! You know what it reminded me of? Templars, by Sabaton. Sabaton is not a Christian band, but this song goes hard! And as a lover of history, I cannot help but smile at some of the lyrics!
No apologizing for rambling! heart
I think that God as revealed in Jesus is the best counterargument to any argument about God's morality, because Jesus is God dying for His enemies (Romans 5:8 ), purchasing us with His own blood (Acts 20:28 ). Now, I don't believe in specifically penal substitutionary atonement, and I don't think it's required to read the text faithfully. And I do believe in free will, and that this is the best possible version of the universe where God gets exactly what God wishes: free creatures who, when presented with grace, freely choose to love Him instead of their own desires.
Not everyone will. And that's their choice. And they must deal with that.
But God will not turn away anyone who wants to love Him. God is holy, and God is love. One cannot exist without the other, or the other ceases to be a quality of God. And all other qualities of God exist as extensions of these two qualities.

Awe heck yeah - Creed. I used to make fun of them growing up, but even then I cant say that theyre not talented and created their own essence of music. I nee to listen to the 1st song later, I wish there was more than 24 hours in a day a lot x3x;;
And yeah, if you dont like that song by naglfar, you prolly won't like any of their other songs, lyrically and otherwise. I love thw sound of some melodic black metal bands, especially over more generic sounding black metal. I can kinda get into the whole "really bad recording studio" vibe and immense reverb like theyre singing in the darkest shower imaginable, but i also like being able to decipher Lyrics without having to look them up. Theyre one of the few melodic black metal bands out there, and one of the OGd, their first album releasing in 2003. They have the whole Nordic pagan thing that black metal/other extreme metal genres tend to have, their name referring to Loki's ship of the dead - made of toenails/fingernails. I find Nordic/Greek mythology extremely interesting, though I view it sheerly as a mythology that doesnt really have much of a place in a post B.C. world. Yeah it's cool and relatable that their gods have human flaws like us, but its not too great to have the fear of god instilled in a way that makes them seem like malevolent forces that give no care to trying to better humanity. O;
GOSH im rambling again im so sorry ;v
I mainly know of one Orthodox Christian melodic black metal band - Crimson Moonlight, theyre also very old, dating back to the late 90s. Some christians think the idea of Christian black metal is inherently oxymoronic, but in my opinion I think Orthodox Christianity fits pretty well into a black/death metal archetype. Kinda like how Orthodox Christians will say "death to the world', its sounds misanthropic until you recognize theyre talking about not hanging on to the fleeting aspects of the material world.

Oooh I've never heard that song from Caligulas Horse but I really dig the sound. heart I would have probably listened to this on repeat in HS...and even now I want to listen to more haha
It definitely sounds like they are seeking, even if they haven't had an experience with Jesus yet.
Dream Theater takes me back too!
Seth is awesome! I love watching his vids when I come across them on IG. xd Does he have full albums out yet? It won't let me see the cheeseburger song crying I'll wait for youuuuu-oooouu.
