The bright spring sunshine was almost too hot but, the bees and flowers were as lively as ever. Snorting softly Pualani got back to work..her small form dusted with dirt.

A growing pile of weeds laid alongside her..ears soon pinning in frustration. One weed in particular was giving the mare trouble; how deeply did the roots run? How had they missed it?! Grumbling she prepared herself for a big fight but, the sound of someone or something approaching distracted her. “Hello?”

At this point no one was in the meadow besides Pua..heart skipping a beat she ducked behind a particularly flourishing bush of flowers. Bright eyes narrowing her mind tried desperately to draw out any old advice from any of her parents.

For months the large puppy like stallion had been dutifully bringing all manner of gifts to his most treasured mate. Things to make her smile, baubles to decorate her hair and even odd creatures. Still Ravager’s favorite items to get her were freshly picked flowers! A bouquet of wildflowers at first but, then the stallion had stumbled onto someone’s garden. The plethora of gorgeous sweet smelling blooms had stolen his breath away. Foolishly he’d plucked a whole bunch of the blooms; then found himself being ripped a new one by the tiniest mare he’d met!

Shaking off the memories he hurried through the forest..the scent of flowers easily leading him straight back to the mare Lokelani’s garden. If it was gorgeous before then it was magnificent now. Eyes bright he peeked around for signs of the garden’s keeper.

No way would Ravager dare even touch a single petal without permission. Nope. Seeing no one he ever so carefully entered the space, laughing softly when a few curious butterflies landed on his dark form. “Hello there little butterflies! Is Lokelani here? She promised to help me pick a perfect bouquet..”

The flapping tiny creatures didn’t answer so he continued to walk and talk. “Ah I see. Perhaps she’ll return soon? Which blooms look the loveliest today?” Pausing as if awaiting a response Ravager gave the flowers delicate sniffs of appreciation. “These red ones..you think she’d like them? My mate you see..she’s very ravishing little butterflies.”

Peering from behind the bush Pualani found a huge stallion with sharp claws wandering around the garden. He didn’t try to destroy anything..or take anything. Then her ears caught him saying mama’s name. Huh.

Sneaking as best she could to a tree her ears again pricked forward to listen. So he’d come for a bouquet..that was her mother’s speciality. Pondering for a good long minute Pualani moved out from the hiding spot. “H-hello there! My mother is away with my brother to the b-beach. I..I am Pualani. Nice to meet you..”

Head giving a polite bow she was unprepared for the stallion’s rambling on about flowers for his mate. “Oh! So you want some flowers that mean love, devotion..hmm.” Mind whirling through all of her mother’s teachings she gently moved through the many flowers.

Humming a lovely tune she moved on auto pilot; using memories to guide her as she plucked flowers to make a beautiful bouquet, words following each one. “Red roses for love. They smell utterly divine and will surely make her smile! Hmm..we’ll pair them with..”

Tapping a hoof in thought her bright eyes swept around, body turning in a loose circle before finding the proper addition. “Red Tulips! Ah. These represent perfect devotion. My mother grew these especially for one of my mama’s~ So I can only let you have two!”

Smiling her gaze at last sought out the nicest fragrant addition. “This is called Lavender..did you know that some dry it and use it for tea or they rub it into their pelts so they smell nice?” Humming she tucked the pretty lavender next to the roses..using her nose to fluff a few rose’s petals.

At Ravager’s pleading Pualani spoke further “Lavender will bring inner peace..you need a bit of peace. I hope you won’t find it rude; you simply have a lot of energy..it’s good you enjoy life so fully! Still peace is needed too.”

Surprise flowed through Ravager when a little mare appeared from behind one of the trees. Amazed to see one of Lokelani’s children he matched her bow, grinning widely. ”Hello! I am Ravager! Someone told me once my name was scary but, I’m a good stallion. Promise.”

At her question he lit up as bright as the sun “Yes please. Your mother is my new friend and said she’d help me. My mate is indeed the love of my heart..” Dutifully following along after Pualani he listened to her every word..eyes wide as a foals. Curiosity burned through him but, he was on his best behavior.

Tail starting to sway he bent and gave each bloom a sniff..oh yes..this was perfection! ”Love..Devotion..Peace?” Head tilting to one side in curiosity Ravager made certain to remember the words.“No no tell me more! Maybe my love will enjoy using these for good smells? Hm..”

Watching her tie the bouquet with a long bit of..something..he turned to the small pouch tied on his leg. The contents were spilled onto the grass ”I brought pretty rocks! Please pick some, you worked hard.”

Once two smooth sparkly stones had been chosen Ravager packed away the rest, gave a more flourishing bow and prepared to take the flowers..speaking before his mouth was full.”I thank you new friend Pualani. You are most kind~ I’ll visit again! Bye bye!!” Snatching the bouquet the bouncy stallion raced off..leaving a bemused mare behind him.
