Setting: Backdated to June 29th (Strawberry Full Moon)

Quote:
Poultrygeist (10) : As Destiny City is a bustling metropolis, it’s not unexpected that there should be some strange animals running the streets. Sometimes it’s a tiger, sometimes a monkey, sometimes a chicken. Sometimes it’s something worse. Strange egg clusters have appeared in Destiny City’s parks and officials aren’t really sure what they are; these eggs have nothing inside of them. Though it’s an anomaly, they are chalking it up to teenaged pranks. However, they have advised to just leave the eggs as they are. Nobody wants to say why, but if you’re out late at night, you’ll find out. In the darkness, whispered between the sounds of the city: a guttural, rasping cluck. The creature stands on stilt-like legs, rooted to the ground with razor-sharp talons. It wears a cloak of long, oily feathers that drag on the ground with a sinister scraping. If you stare into the darkness, piercing red eyes stare back at you. That’s all it takes for a confrontation: a mangled bird, maybe a chicken in another life, comes barreling out at you. It stands easily as tall as a person, but the proportions are all wrong. The smell of sulfur follows it as it lunges, pecking and screaming and scratching as it attempts to chase you away. Maybe, from the nests full of empty eggs. The battles are fierce, but fleeting; it will viciously try to chase you away but the effects are always the same: at some point, the eggs are crushed. As always, there’s nothing inside of them, but with one final wail, the bird will vanish into a plume of foul smoke.

Note: If you choose to encounter one of these bird-like creatures, your character will recognize they are not youma. It is impossible to tell if it is a single entity or if there are many. The bird does not seem to understand or care to listen to human words. It will always disappear in a malodorous plume of smoke and leave nothing but a foul odor and a clutch of empty, broken eggs behind. This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character. This does not count as the one youma battle per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

Full moon light illuminated the city, the heat of the day rapidly cooling as those who worked the day traded places with those who strolled the streets at night. Everyone goes about their lives, drifting from place to place in an endless cycle of life…. If only there weren’t things that lurked in the shadows. Preying upon the normal people. The unsuspecting populace. Evil lived in everyone, even she recognized that, but there was a special kind of darkness that haunted this particular city. An illness that it couldn’t quite shake. A plague of chaos and magic. Wrapping its tentacles tighter and tighter into the shadows.

Antares fiddled with the little amber star charm she had as she surveyed the city below her. Night had truly fallen and while there were less people out, the streets were still flowing with movement. Tail lights traced patterns on the road while headlights arched spotlights across the buildings. But nothing jumped out at her that required her assistance. No chaos or magical s**t. There weren't even any more mundane muggings happening. It might have still been too hot out for humans being assholes but Antares didn’t fully buy that. Her eyes narrowed as she scanned the shadows looking for anything that required intervention with. She was itching for a fight but wasn’t in the mood to find anyone to train with. She wanted to feel the rush of real danger. The touch of worry and brush of death that training never gave you. The uncertainty that everything could, and would, go wrong. She wanted the flood of feelings because they would over write the lurking uncertainty she couldn’t shake. Ever since having her homeworld inadequacies shoved in her face Antares couldn’t stop her mind drifting to those half remembered flashes. The emotions that painted her past life, and present dreams.

She wanted a fight to help remind her of the here and now, not of the long distant past that still had her chained in one moment in time. Or at least that was as much as she had been able to figure out after some trial and error after that younger senshi’s visit. Every time she got too close to the gate at her homeworld that led out to the city, flashes backs of what had happened drove her to her knees. Swamping her with the terror and horror from her past life. At least she didn’t pass out again, although the first few times it was a close thing. Antares was reminded again and again just how inadequate she was every time she tried, and failed, to leave her palace complex on her homeworld, so she was angry. She wanted a fight. Something that let her prove she wasn’t some hopeless child. She wasn’t useless.

But for once the city refused to oblige her. It was quiet. Almost too quiet since the city was in the swing of the Star Fest, and that typically meant some magical BS would be afoot. However, in Antares’ little corner of the city, the swath of streets and buildings she patrolled, everything was calm.

Or it was until a strange sound broke the ‘stillness’ that was an average night in the city.

Apologies on the delay on getting this started. Also, TLDR: Antares is itching for a fight and a loud noise draws her attention... what kind of strange noise is up to you ^_^

Aberdonia had decided to go out, get some exercise, take (another) break from his summer homework. Because, at this point, what with taking challenging courses to ensure being able to get into whatever program he wanted to pursue, the relative hazard of going out on a patrol, particularly during a holiday, was a comparatively good change of pace. Yes, potentially very unsafe. But, at the same time, not even guaranteed to be that hazardous. Often enough, a patrol would simply turn up someone he hadn't met before. It was fine. Probably. At any rate, his mother had taken his sister on a shopping errand as soon as dinner was over, leaving the high schooler at loose ends, and too fidgety to sit down and focus on summer homework. As for Neit...Neit had been busy on her beading project any time his mother was out of the house, and he couldn't blame the Mauvian. It was still unclear how long the kids and Mauvian in the family would have to continue dodging telling their respective parents that they had three magical children and an alien who happened to be cat-shaped.

Honestly, it still seemed fine to not say anything for the time being.

Regrettably, Aberdonia didn't feel that much closer than last winter to figuring out who he wanted to be as a senshi to his asteroid, or, rather, what was left of it. Which seemed to be more every time he went up there, but still failed to yield anything other than plants and invertebrates. A bit weird, but maybe reviving anything with a spinal cord took more effort than things without spinal cords.

As he mused, a small spark drifted behind him in the shadows, seeming to not want to disrupt his train of thought.

Oh, and there were the eggs. The really big ones he'd seen around on the last few jogs he'd taken around Destiny City to stay in shape for the swim team. They were weird, but seemed harmless enough. Which, given that they'd popped up during Star Fest, and caution during the holidays wasn't just a virtue, it was a survival trait...yeah, he'd been cautious. Hence why the super senshi did not assume tonight would necessarily be a safe, quick little patrol.

As he jogged through a park, he thought he sensed an energy, possibly a familiar one? Or maybe he was overthinking that, though it would be a good thing to have a friend or other acquaintance around if whatever had laid the eggs wanted to cause trouble. It was certainly strong enough to belong to an eternal senshi. Maybe Aruna? Maybe someone else? At least the energy signature didn't feel like battery acid, so it was probably reasonably friendly.

At which point he heard a guttural, rasping sound on the path ahead. Not human. Youma? No, no youma aura. Alien? They'd probably have an energy signature of some kind, right?

A fluttering sound of something with rather more feathers than any alien he'd ever met in the bushes around the bend, and what he thought might be red eyes flashing in the gloom.

And, ahead of him, as he rounded the bend, cautiously, a familiar figure in white.

"Antares! Behind you! Papyrus Proliferation!" he shouted, casting his second stage spell before whatever was in the bushes could attack.

Quote:
Papyrus Proliferation
Aberdonia calls out the name of his attack and conjures a shield made from papyrus; it is twelve feet wide and six feet tall. He can cast the shield on himself or on someone else. Once cast, no one can enter or exit the shield and it will move according to the location of the target. For thirty five seconds, it will block all first and second stage attacks (including magic and weapons). It can reduce damage from third stage attacks and may deflect magic or physical attacks. It cannot defend against fourth stage attacks. This magic can be used twice per day.

She had followed her ears to a park, scoffing at the sheer commonality of it all, and well aware that there was a reason that much of the magical crap in the city happened hidden in parks, Antares stepped in between a civilian and one strange, and ******** large, a** chicken. The thing was large, black, and mean. The civilian took off as soon as she distracted the foul fowl, which was useful since the creature took extreme offence to her presence. A scuffle ensued but other than her trying her first stage magic once, it didn’t do anything but piss the monster off, neither was terribly hurt. Antares’ pride was injured but that was about it really, mostly because every time she went after the chicken it darted away into the darkness and she couldn’t land a real hit on it. It retaliated from the darkness, slashing or pecking at her, but she was able to avoid it for the most part. Avoiding a human sized chicken wasn’t exactly an easy feat.

The senshi was contemplating upping her magic when the spark, the internal ping, of magic distracted her. It meant someone was coming. Someone likely friendly, since the aura felt ‘Order’ to her. But still…. She didn’t particularly want an audience to witness her playing ‘chicken’ with a chicken. That moment of distraction had the oily little pisser slip into the bushes once more, causing her to mutter a curse under her breath. The blonde glanced away just as the weaker aura rounded a corner, a brow raising in surprise as she took in the familiar figure, only to drop into a scowl at the younger senshi when a leafy green and obviously magical shield sprang up around her at his cry of ‘behind you’.

With an angry ‘bakawk’ the chicken launched itself out of its hiding place, clawing at the shield around her with its long legs. Pecking for all its worth. When that didn’t work it turned its beady little eyes on the younger, and weaker, senshi. Its oily feathers drag on the ground with a sinister scraping as it took a few strutting steps towards Aberdonia before letting out this unholy screech and lunging at the younger senshi.
