2026 Star Festival Prompt
The Lilypads (16) : You can find them in lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and waterways throughout Destiny City. Giant lilypads--some large enough to support the weight of a person--appear overnight. You can try, if you want. It's become a local trend, and pictures are all over social media--of people looking for the largest lilypads, or the smallest ones they can stand on. You'd think the unnatural bubbling around the lilypads would be enough of a sign not to mess with them, but sometimes people need to learn the hard way. Beneath the lilypads lurk strange frog-like creatures that regard nearly everything as prey. The largest of them are roughly the size and shape of a bean bag chair, but they can be as small as a fist. Their broad heads are crowned with lilypads that serve as natural camouflage, allowing them to hide among the floating vegetation until they strike. They move with startling speed and can launch themselves impressive distances with powerful kicks. Long, whip-like tongues lash out to snatch prey, while thick mucus-like saliva can cling to skin, clothing, and even immobilize unfortunate victims. Their skin carries a toxic coating that can cause irritation on contact. The creatures announce themselves with a deep croak that sounds uncannily like a large bell being rung just by your ears. Unfortunately, for anyone that was respecting nature, these strange creatures are aggressive and will also attack without provocation, often attempting to drive even innocent bystanders away from the water's edge. However, if sufficiently threatened, they may retreat into the water. Once submerged, they become impossible to track.
Note: If you choose to encounter one of these frog-like creatures, your character will recognize they are not youma. It is impossible to tell if it is a single entity or if there are many. The creature does not seem to understand or care to listen to human words. All toxic and mucus can be washed away, but effects may persist for a few hours after this encounter. The creature cannot be killed and will always evade lethal blows. While it is rare to find multiple large creatures in the same vicinity, smaller creatures often cluster together, or may be found with a larger one. This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character. This does not count as the one youma battle per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

It was a pleasantly comfortable night out. Limosa was walking her route, taking time to pass through the park, hoping to see someone she knew. People she knew! Maybe Tetra, or Clara! She liked them, they were good people and friend-shaped in her mind as she walked gracefully along, eyes focused on the area. Of late it felt like there were lilypads everywhere, and the senshi was hoping it was nothing of concern.
She kind of doubted it, though. After all, summer could be tricky, and while she evaded trouble a while, good luck couldn't last forever. The senshi was peering closer to an especially pretty lilypad when she sensed and aura and turned, head tilting. Missing that subtle, slight rustle of movement.
"Hello!" Limosa called, cheerily.
"Limosa! Hi!" Clara greeted in reply as he happily recognized the sight and voice of the other senshi. He was sick and tired of patrolling alone and it was nice to see a familiar face, especially after the tiring week he'd had. It also seemed serendipitous that the person he happened to run into was Limosa, of all people.
Having met so many new and friendly powered beings recently - particularly senshi of his faction - Clara had started to hear about courts and tried to research what he could of them. Unfortunately, he wasn't really sure where to start because the only sources of senshi or even powered being information that Clara knew of were guardian cats and he wasn't familiar with any. The one that had awoken him had barely bothered to explain his powers to him before leaving him to figure out the rest on his own.
A cat that came to mind, however, was the one that he had met on Limosa's homeworld - one that he thought Limosa had said she knew. He wondered if he could ask Limosa if they could ask that cat about forming a court. He could probably ask Limosa herself, too. She seemed quite knowledgeable in the ways of powered beings and he wouldn't have been surprised if she already knew all about forming courts. In fact, he had actually kind of wanted to ask if she would be willing to form a court with him. He just had to work up the courage to do so.
"I'm actually really glad I ran into you," Clara told her as he came up to her, glancing briefly at the lilypads she had been gazing at while he did. They sure were large. "I wanted to ask you...what do you know about senshi courts?"
One of the lilypads appeared to have a fuchsia star charm on it. Clara reached down to pick it up instinctively, knowing it was better off with him than laying about where some wild animal might have tried to eat it and ended up choking on it instead.
Limosa almost squealed in delight, hugging Clara tightly in excitement.
Limosa was happy to see him again. He was someone she enjoyed the company of, and it was nice to have non-family order friends, made her want to meet more people. She was beaming instantly, brown eyes dancing with the joy of reunion as she listened to his question with genuine sincerity.
"Courts? Not that much no. I assume it's a senshi gathering. We can check our phones. Or mine if yours needs upgrading." She could probably help get Soleiyu to help with Clara's phone is needed too. For now, Limosa followed. The star charm looked interesting -- and she hummed, wondering how it got there. She watched the lilypads, admiring one with a bright pink flower before it moved and she paused, brow raising. She didn't... SENSE youma...
The silver-haired senshi laughed, recalling how affectionate Limosa was when she hugged him and he hugged her back. He couldn't help the fact that she reminded him so much of his sisters whom he missed dearly. He was very grateful to know her.
He had hardly registered the fact that she said she didn't know much about courts before she suggested they check their phones. He hadn't realized their senshi phones could provide them with information like that. Or that they could be upgraded. "Upgraded?" he repeated, intensely curious. "How do you get your phone upgraded? Is it something you have to do yourself?"
Clara had barely finished asking the question before he was following Limosa's gaze and noticed something move in the direction of the lilypads. "What in the world...? Are there fish or something in there?" Still...they would have had to have been pretty big fish in order to move lilypads that large.
Limosa beamed, just happy to see Clara -- but then, La Brea pretty much had adopted him. So he WAS almost family.
At his question, she hummed. "The cats, actually. Mine's like a smartphone. I don't mind sharing." She beamed, pulling her senshi phone close so they could easily share.
And then a tongue shot out and almost snatched Limosa's phone, the senshi dodging, pulling Clara with her as she stared, eyes wide.
"Was that... Was that a frog tongue?! Limosa gasped, horrified.
"Oh. A shame I don't really know any guardian cats," he said with a weak smile, looking sheepish. "I appreciate you offering to share, though; that means a lot." He stepped a bit closer to get a better look at her phone as she moved to show it to him when a long, pink thing seemed to extend from out of nowhere to grab it. Fortunately, Limosa's reflexes were quick enough to jerk the device out of reach of the thief in time and pulled Clara with her, for which he was extremely grateful.
"It sure looked like it," the senshi of embarrassment remarked, taking on a fighting stance. "But it looked far too big to belong to any frog I've seen before." He took a step in front of Limosa, ready to attack in her and his own defense. "You're an Embarrassment!" he called, aiming his palm in the direction the tongue had come from so he could blast through the water with his senshi magic's offensive beam of light.

"I really should try introducing you to Soleiyu. He was at my Homeworld -- ears. Tail." Limosa offered kindly. Happily. "I bet he'd be happy to see you again. Maybe I should have a boat party on my homeworld or something..."
It might be fun!... But the frog demanded attention as it was blasted back, an unearthly deep croak. It was...it was...massive. The size of a bean bag chair, and another frog tongue shot out nearby, Limosa yelping before she could praise Clara's honestly, to her, impressive magic.
"Oh - oh geeze, there's more!" She hissed, mentally calculating. She frowned, eying the lilypads as she did.
"I wonder...."
Would her magic...work like a real octopus in water? She hoped?
Clara nodded. "Oh, I remember him, I think. The one with the white cat ears and tail, right?" He smiled. "Yes, he was very kind, just like you and your father. I would love to meet him again if you would be alright with that. And a party on your homeworld sounds fun!"
Unfortunately, their discussion was abruptly interrupted by the frog tongue attack.
Emerald-eyed senshi stared at the huge frog-thing but was distracted as another shot out a second tongue at them.
"Uh oh," Clara murmured before looking to Limosa. "Do you want to try to take care of that one, or would you like me to?"
Limosa smiled.
"He helped me since I was basic. He's.. He's a very dear friend. I think you'd love him. He has a very good heart." Limosa beamed. "A party would be so fun. Beach, sun, food, music... I would need to set up. Probably spend time cooking. But I don't mind cooking." Limosa admitted. "I can try using an onigiri press I got to make rice balls with pork or plum in them..." She was thinking. Trying Japanese dishes wasn't new for her. Or Chinese, or anything. And she hummed. "Possibly not takoyaki. Seems a bit in poor taste."
Limosa then hissed at the frogs. Well..time to find out what happened in water.
"I can cast my magic. It should blind them." Limosa warned and motioned.
"Limosa Octopus Barrage!"

Super Sailor Scout Attack: Limosa Octopus Ink Maelstrom
Limosa summons approximately five average-sized octopuses, whom shoot a cloud of ink at up to three targets. The targets will be unable to see Limosa, her aura will be unidentifiable as order or chaos, and their skin and eyes will tingle and burn uncomfortably for a total of 30 seconds. She may use this attack 3 times a battle.

"I'm sure I would, too," Clara answered with a slight flush when Limosa said she thought he would love Soleiyu. "I'm just...somewhat allergic to cats. But I'm sure if I take allergy medication, it'll be fine."
His eyes widened. "You can cook?! That's amazing! And I love onigiri! I can try to help if you don't mind!" The comment about Takoyaki made him laugh.
When Clara watched Limosa use her super sailor attack, he seemed impressed by how much damage it did, especially to the frog creatures who seemed to try to use the water for cover. The octopi that Limosa summoned were perfect to counter that. He wondered how they worked when there wasn't any water around.
Soon enough, both the frogs that had targeted them seemed to have enough of their senshi magic and took to the water to swim off in what seemed an attempt to retreat. Clara sighed in relief. "Is your phone alright? It didn't get wet, did it? Are you alright?"
"I can also talk to him. Though I don't know if Mauvians are close to cats in terms of allergies." Limosa admitted. "Even still, luckily, allergies can be accommodated." But then she lit up.
"I'd love that! I cook all sorts. American, Chinese, Japanese, Korean... I used to do two but I watched someone critique enough fried rice on Youtube I've begin trying to branch out more. I love cooking, I'd be happy to cook for you sometime!"
Limosa watched the frogs retreat, actually snorting a moment.
"Good." She muttered. "Want to come to my place? I can tell my kid brothers you're a friend if they wake up. Safe enough to power down. And I can make dinner, if you haven't eaten. We can see what I have on hand. I fed the boys fettuccini with chicken... They were fussing about wanting chicken and one was wanting pasta so..." Compromise!
"I guess maybe they could be different," Clara laughed, wondering if alien cats counted or maybe they were different enough that they didn't cause allergies like regular cats did. "And yeah, even if they're not, at least there are other measures that can be taken against allergies."
His brows shot up. "Wow, really? You know how to cook all those different types of foods? Are you a professional chef or something?" he marveled. "I would love to learn from you if you'd let me!"
At Limosa's invitation, Clara looked ecstatic. "I would love to! I haven't eaten yet, no, but I insist on helping with dinner. If...you can tell me what to do because I'm afraid I don't have much experience with cooking," he admitted sheepishly. "But that's why I'd like to learn!"
"I can ask him about things, see if he knows. We can probably meet at my place. Even if I have my little brothers part time to help Dad out-- I can send two to my boyfriend's place to play with their friends and... Eos stays in his room ignoring the world a lot. So they won't notice a thing." Limosa nodded, then giggled.
"Engineer! I work at Starworx. They're trying to develop a new Supersonic Passenger jet. I'm on the team developing an engine, actually. I've been studying old fighter engines to look for help, as well as the older planes and we're working to reduce the sonic booms that might disturb people." Limosa admitted. "I just like to cook and learn to cook. I was almost a chef but after meeting Dad...science clicked. Turns out I'm good at making things or fixing them up."
Then she lit up.
"I'd be happy to teach you if you like. And I'm not letting you go hungry. What do you want to learn? Pasta's good to begin, but we can try something a little more. I'm sure you'll pick up on it. You're smart."
And she meant it.
"I'd appreciate you asking him about that, Limosa," Clara said fondly. "I appreciate everything you do for me and others. Really. Thank you for being so kind, caring, and thoughtful."
He looked surprised when she talked of sending two of her brothers to her boyfriends' place. "Oh, you don't have to do that! I don't mind them being around. I can even help watch them while the food is cooking if you like. Er, unless you'd rather them not meet me," he added with an awkward smile.
"What?! You're not even a chef but you still know how to cook all those cuisines?" Clara asked, shocked. "Well I guess if you're an engineer, most other things must come easy to you. That's impressive." He chuckled after she mentioned what had happened to her to cause science to 'click'. "Really? Because you met your dad? That's interesting."
"I'm happy to learn anything," the silver-haired young man told her with a smile. "And thank you; that means a lot coming from an engineer. But it's getting kind of late, so how about we get going? I'll follow your lead."
"Eric is shy but he and Cyrus love new people. Cyrus might ask some...weird questions. Eos is a little shyer. He's a bit more like our dad. They both like space. I'd take him to my homeworld if I felt it was safe and he'd keep it secret. He might ask if you want to play Animal Crossing or Tomodachi Life with him or something though. If he does, he likes you. He adores my boyfriend, so I know he's social, just..." Indoor child. She wasn't sure the words to say "Indoor Child" well. "And Dad might relax knowing they have another role model around."
THAT was praise. La Brea would protect his sons regardless - her too, Limosa knew what he was capable of, he mentioned acting again. No therapy for this. He was processing with her alone this one and... Less shaken. As if confident he died right. and praising Lex for almost doing it. Limosa had a strong beer THAT night.
"C'mon. We can power down and pick 'em up. Lex is creepy looking but he's not a bad guy. He's raising his little brothers, so if they're doing anything it's movies, and he'll either stay for dinner or go home, but... He's nice. Just...civilian. Who's punched a captain and won." Limosa sighed, rubbing her face.
"...Thank you for being a voice of reason."
Clara nodded in acknowledgement, smiling as he listened to Limosa speak of her younger brothers. "Don't worry. After looking after two younger sisters, I'd like to think I know a thing or two about looking after younger siblings. I'm sure yours are wonderful."
A little nervous about powering down and meeting Limosa's family but also excited to do so, the silver-haired senshi attentively continued to listen to Limosa talk - this time about her boyfriend - and laughed when she'd said he was a civilian who'd punched a Negaverse captain and won. "Impressive," he remarked, grinning. "I look forward to meeting him along with the rest of your family."
When Limosa thanked him for being a voice of reason, Clara blushed bashfully, but nodded and replied, "I'm happy to be one if it helps."
Limosa smiled, hugging him again tightly, and motioned.
"C'mon."She beamed. "Let's go cook at my place." And she slipped along, leading him for home.
